I just had a phone call with my stupid aunty, I’m sorry for being rude to her but listen. I can’t believe what she suggested me to lose weight fast. So I’ve been in this losing weight journey for 1 year ish now right? That day I visited her after 6months and she said she sees no changes. I lost only 20kg in 1 year ish . Ok fine I haven’t lost weight much according to her but she deadass asked me to do few things. Tell me if you find this remotely sensible.
1. Liposuction
2. Injection for weight loss which costs 400 USD
3. Amway product ( her cousin lost weight because of some magical drink)
4. Steal Metformin from my mom and take 1 tablet everyday. Metformin is a diabetic meds . My mom has diabetes yep
5. Cut out rice completely forever.
6. Stop doing gym because it’s making my upper body look bigger ( losing my femininity)
I scolded her like crazy for saying all these and she said if I keep being defensive I’m going to waste so many years on losing weight.
Some of the things she said are my insecurities like I hate that I have broad shoulders I even considered to stop weight training because of it. I’ve tried cutting out rice too but it only made me binge. It’s just frustrating when you’re on a somewhat right track and people keep discouraging you esp your own family.

Uma. Much love. You know by now how much we care about you.
No one has to live in our body. No one.9 -

I really do I swear you guys are only my support system during this rough time. My family and friends just gave up on me at this point. So thank you for dealing with my nonsense 😭💜 love you guys smmmm14 -
Right back at you. We're birds of a feather flying together.1

I'm just glad you realise everything she said is not the best way to go. You are on the right track. Be proud. No need to cut rice out at all as long as it fits into your calories. You could have it everyday even if you want to. If you totally give up things you enjoy then you can end up bingeing.12

I'm most concerned that your aunt seems to dislike her sister and is plotting her demise. The rest is laughable.
Print this thread after a few days and accidentally drop it in her presence so that she picks it up and reads it later.11 -
You’re right. Crazy. You are definitely on the right track, and 20kg in a year is great sustainable progress. Well done.7
-
You are doing excellent. Ignore and really don't as a type 2 who can't take metformin, my life would be easier if I could, the side affects suck.4
-
44 lbs?
Why doesn't she pick up 44lbs and carry it around all day.
As to the rest of it, I'm sure Amway has published their diet drug results in a peer review journal and their stock is soaring given the evident success and impeccable safety record of the $400 treatment
oh, wait, this hasn't happened yet!
It must be one of these give me $400 so I can tell you a secret I won't tell anyone else for $400.

Well, If toxic catty aunty wants to donate some money....
.... I mean only you can judge auntie and whether this is ignorance or deliberate
I forgot: and she's also a prescriber of medication now too, right?
Hey: how about next time she talks to you she has to be out on a walk with you, because you create a policy to only talk to relatives while walking outside! Bang: instant reduction in hours spent cooped up in limited space and munching with relatives AND an increase in activity!11 -
You are definitely doing something right. Keep doing it!
Be glad you have an aunty who cares enough about you to call!
Be glad you’ve educated yourself enough you realize her suggestions are silly.
Keep doing what you’re doing!
Love your aunty.
LOVE YOURSELF MORE !9 -
Not remotely sensible advice, not even the tiniest little bit.
20kg in a year-ish is good, and it sounds like you're figuring out how to do it in a way that'll help you maintain the loss long term. Good stuff.
Ignore Auntie.
I agree with the "Yikes: What!?!" kinda reaction to stealing the drugs your mom needs. 😬
Keep doing the good stuff you're doing, ignore the ignorance. :flowerforyou:9 -

I mean my mom has a lot of diabetic medicines she wants me to try Metformin cause she said it helps with weight loss. Which I’ll never dooo7 -

I can see that she’s concerned about my well being , I love her so much actually but today she was being a little mean about my journey. So I’m very much mad6 -

At times I’m like screw this it’s too slow but then I cant go back to my starting weight either so I’m like a grumpy grinch going “ugh whatever u have no choice 😒”7 -
I’m going to hazard a guess that your aunt, however much you love her, is a bit overweight herself and maybe unhappy with some things in her own life.
It may have been a moment of jealousy, she’d had a bad day with whatever the source of her unhappiness is, or she may even feel -since you are so close- that the bird has escaped the nest a little.
I would firmly tell her that you love her, but diet and weight talk are off limits, and be firm or claim other commitments if she tries to steer the conversation back.
I guess be grateful you have an aunt who cares to interject. My family is so flipping crazy that aunts and cousins haven’t bothered to contact us in years. They have their own brand of crazy and it’s probably a good thing we don’t intermingle and pile on together. I swear, one of these days I’m going to write a NON-fiction GWTW sized volume about a crazy family. Whatever your crazy is, believe me, I win.
There’s a lot to be said for loving families. Loving families that drive you crazy is way different than crazy crazy.10 -

Omg are you a psychic 😂 you're right She’s a little overweight herself sometimes she asks me on how to lose weight when I advice her calorie deficit and workout she says nah it doesn’t work6 -
Also.. just putting this out there..
Its absolutely 100% okay to cut TOXIC people from your life, regardless on if they are family or not. Your relationship to a toxic person should not be permission to do those things.3 -

Thank you its a mix of some newer less well known meds and its working so far.0 -
20 kg in a year is a good pace - that is around 44 lb or slightly under a lb per week. Whatever you are doing is working.
It aint broke - no need to fix it.
I lost at a slower pace - 10 kg in 10 months.
of the suggestions
Metformin is sometimes used in weight management, not just for diabetics. So taking it could make sense for some people
However obviously that doenst mean just take somebody elses prescription medication.
None of the other suggestions make any sense at all.4 -
When I was 387lb my sister told me I should stop eating and just drink water for 6 months to lose the weight (and my life obviously if I did that)
Sometimes we need to ignore the fact they are family and refuse to listen to them8 -

Just wanted to say that broad shoulders on a girl are f$&@ing awesome and that your aunt is full of sh!$.
Sorry for the spicy language!
I’d love to lose 20k in one year doing it the healthy way!9 -
I work with young people, and once scrapped a whole afternoons plan because someone was going on about how fat the Williams sisters were.
We covered a lot of ground that afternoon, sometimes you just can't let something lie.12 -

Really? Do you have any idea on how Metformin helps? Is it because of the sugar control0 -

Be proud of what you look like now. I had the most amazing body when young. I'm 54 now and find it hard at times to accept I can't wear as short a skirt (or won't), that my boobs aren't as perky ( I breast fed 2 babies and lost and gained weight.. then there is age) and my legs aren't as perfect as they were back then. LOVE what you have NOW. Please listen. You won't be young forever and you are perfect no matter your weight.5 -
im glad you didn't listen to her. and yes, the things she suggested were NOT good ideas at all. regardless of how slowly you lose weight, you're doing it the right way which will most likely lead to keeping it off. there is no quick fix and you obviously already know that. so good for you!!3

This is so helpful and scary at the same time. I actually can’t seem to love myself and I don’t wanna regret later on3 -
