GOOD MORNING over 50 ladies! I am trying to get forum names connected to real names and a general idea where everyone is located. It seems a majority are in the Pacific Northwest USA. So far I have Sharon, Rebecca, Evelyn, Katla, Lanette, and Sue as PNW ladies. Next, I will get our Texas ladies organized in mind. I was born in Colorado and basically grew up there, but my parents were highly degreed government scientists and took on special assignments that divided my time growing up in Colorado with Texas and New Mexico. Have I missed any PNW ladies? it seems odd that 50-year-olds are considered seniors. My daughter would be 50 this year had she lived.

GRANDCHILDREN ~ Love all the photos that you post...makes me smile. Keep them coming.
LISA ~ So glad you got your gas back on even though it took a while. Years ago, my brother went to light the pilot light on his water heater and it exploded. He had to be air flighted to a burn center but luckily recovered with no severe scarring.
HEATHER & SHARON ~ Your transformations with your weight problems are so inspiring.
Went to the ENT and audiologist. Have moderate hearing loss in both ear and more especially in the one that is bothering me. Prescribed prednisone for two weeks in case it is a virus causing the problem. Will probably balloon up after taking that. Ugh!

Lanette – I’m comfortable around 130-135. And, like you say, that’s where my “honesty pants/shorts” feel best. I know that I can go lower on the weight, but then I’d look and feel like c***. If I go overboard I will definitely see an increase. Thanks for those links, they were quite interesting
Soup kitchen today!!! But first need to stop at the church. They have a lot of donations for the soup kitchen so I'll pick them up and take them with me. Then have to stop at the post office. Got masks for Denise and Pete. They probably have some, but I thought these were cute.

When I found this thread at age 62, it was called "Women Ages 50+ and I figured that 62 fit the category so I jumped. Since then, I have aged and so have others. We now have participants from 50 to almost 80 and the friendliness continues to grow. I don't know if 50 is considered senior. I do know that the Washington State Ferry system considers a Senior to be someone age 65+.

There are several from the UK, a few from other parts of Europe, a few from Canada and me in Australia too. 😊 Once in a while others drop in from Australia and New Zealand.
I'm actually Canadian - Australian. Dual citizen. 😊
And I'm one of the youngsters here at 53. I definitely don't consider myself a senior!

Hello All ... Hope you don't mind if I join you. I am been on the MFP site for several years with varying levels of success. Recently I am 52 days in with a loss of 14lbs and many, many, many more to go. My first goal is to get to "one"derland... 34lbs to go.
Look forward to checking in and seeing what everyone is up to.

Been busy . Trying to keep up with exercise y diet. Uncle has pancreatic cancer, grandma birthday, lots going on. JRs been fussy mess but gotta love him.

Heather - I am so impressed with your story of reason for wanting to lose weight. I believe that even if it was for vanity it ended up being for health too. Karen - that's pretty impressive that you remembered Heather's story. It shows what a connection is made in this group.
My daughter bought my grandchildren tablets in April when this all started, I think it was as much for her sanity as anything. When the weather finally started getting nice at the end of May she bought them "new to them" bicycles. I think parents have to do something for kids right now, this has to have been as hard on them as it has been on the parents.
I hope that your Grandchildren continue enjoying your company as they age as well. I was very close to my grandparents on both sides and spent a lot of time with them. I think the connection that was made when I was younger solidified that relationship. My own girls missed a lot because we moved them away from their grandparents when Lauryn was 8 and Kaitlyn was 6. It is probably the worst part about moving across the country.
Lisa - I was fearing for you that you would have a bill in the 1000's, so happy to read that you won't. I would love to meet you someday, my Mom and Dad could talk to people like that and I miss learning about people from them. Levi is adorable!
Carol - I hope the meds help you and you don't balloon up too much.
Barbie - I am 51, I started participating in this group about 3 months before I turned 50. I remember asking at the time if I had to wait until I turned 50. Here some stores offer a seniors discount at 50 and some at 55, but most are 65.
This morning as I was leaving for work my husband was going for his walk and my Grandson was joining him on his bike. My husband walks 5K in less than an hour so Jonah's legs wouldn't be able to keep up the pace. I'll post the picture I took from my phone.
Tonight we switch Grandchildren out, Jonah will go home and Michaela will come for two nights. In the middle of August the Grands are coming for a 3 night sleepover so that their parents can get a way for a camping trip alone. Last night Kaitlyn and I decided that one of those 3 nights would be a sleepover at her house. This will make my life easier as Kaitlyn will help me keep them entertained. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can take them to the lake that is only 420 steps from their house.
I should start doing some work now.

I love to watch spiders. There were two under a light about a month ago, think they were a couple but not sure. The light was low enough to watch them. One was on the web, the other kinda hiding. The web one would bounce the web and the other would come down and “beat” the other then run back to hiding. DH and I watched them for about 30 minutes then gave up. Funny behavior!

My weight has been climbing. Blaming moods and hormone med doc put me on but my diet contributes too. Blaming doesn’t cut it. My hand to mouth actions are what do it. I must log all my food to see what I’m doing to myself.
Made these silly socks as a challenge for a friend who loves socks. Working on Christmas presents early. Also made this banner yesterday. Both in spoiler.
Allergies bad today, sinus headache, eyes blurry, humidity is high for here at 46%. That always triggers my headaches.

I don't know of anywhere that someone between 50-60 can get a "senior" discount. If so, I'd take it. The shops that have "senior hours" right now are 65+. Long ago, when my dad was 55 and able to use a senior discount to get 15% off at a local restaurant in our hometown and he refused. He said that's too young to be senior. For anyone who knows my dad, that's huge because he'll save a penny wherever he can.

Happy Friday from Caregiver Cave. I got far behind with this thread and only just caught up on over 300+ posts.
Belated birthday and anniversary wishes to all who celebrate this month. 🎈🥳💃🏽 Guessing none of us is partying like rock stars, but I do wish you all deep happiness and serenity in your present situation.
Pip: New home, new life, new phone.....Congratulations to you and Kirby. Your story of Bootz transition put a lump in my throat.
Machka: Our last celebration was a two night stay at a local resort this past January for my birthday and our anniversary. Literally played tourist in our town. I thought DH would be able to handle a short getaway, but his dementia has progressed to the point that it's not fun to travel together. He needs a regular routine in the safe, familiar surroundings of our home, especially in the afternoons when his 'sundowning' begins. I don't plan anything beyond doctor appointments anymore. Everyday is a challenge to make it to his bedtime when I finally can exhale and enjoy a little peace and quiet.
Lisa: Glad the fence fiasco is done and dusted. You handled it superbly.
Heather: I feel the same about my little brother. I hope yours makes a swift and full recovery.
My DB is suffering and it is a constant heartbreak for me to see him trying to be brave. His liver is practically shot, and he doesn't yet have final approval from Medicaid (state sponsored health insurance) to go see a specialist. Anxiety, anemia and depression don't help. He is just off a course of antibiotics for a kidney infection. The collection of fluid in his abdomen (think of swallowing a watermelon) is not just unsightly, it's pretty damn uncomfortable. We might be making another trip to the ER (5th in 2 month) because he needs to get drained just so he can comfortably lay down and get a good night's sleep. In the age of Covid-19, every trip to the hospital is gut-wrenching for everyone involved. I can only walk him to the door, then say a teary good-bye.
And then there is my 24/7 monitoring of DH. After researching various agencies, I've given my choice to the Veteran's Administration. It is now in their hands to contract for Home Health Care and Respite Care for us. It will save us alot of money, and hopefully give me a chance to get out of the house now and then. My social worker is trying to expedite the approvals. She is fantastic. I recently started attending a Zoom meeting she set up for other spouses of dementia Vets that she counsels. I looked at the members' faces and immediately thought to myself "These are my people". We all look exceedingly tired.
Good news: DH got his hearing aids, finally! It has been a week, and when I do manage to get them on him, he keeps them on for about 2 hours. But hey, at least we haven't lost them.
More good news: I'm back to my post Covid weight.
Time for DH and me to get some fresh air, music and nature time on the patio. Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Home from walking dogs---40 minutes before breakfast and 90 after. My back has finally recovered from my overdoing last Saturday. I'll be more moderate today in my yard work but I am eager to get back to my project.
My visit to the new gynecologist yesterday was a great success especially in light of all the anxiety I had before going. The practice is solely women's health and her specialty is all around menopause and post menopause conditions. She is young and looks so much like someone I know and adore. There were no surprises except that she suggested cutting back on an expensive medication that I take.
We were quite adventurous after leaving the clinic. Jake drove me and we went to the library curbside pickup, the bank drive through, and a quick run into the grocery store for three items (we actually purchased 21 items).
Rita, Your knitting projects are awesome. I learned to knit socks but don't like how they feel on my feet. Today I'm going to start a new blanket for Project Linus.
My attitude about my weight is not what I weigh compared to others but what I weigh now compared to what I weighed when I felt terrible about myself. Today I weigh 50 pounds less than I did when I decided that I'd had enough.

I am living in Brighton and Hove, a city on the coast of the south east of England. I moved here 20 months ago to be near my three grandchildren. Most of my life I lived in London. I spent my teenage years in Horsham, not far from here, my 3 uni years in Bristol, in the west, and 8 years recently in the countryside in Hampshire, to the west of here. I had a year in the Midlands when I was first married at 20.
You asked for it! My DDIL just sent me this pic. They are off camping for the weekend. Tent camping. It is supposed to be raining tomorrow! They look very happy and I know they have enjoyed it in the past.

Rori- bless your heart..round the clock caregiving for your DH and DB must have you totally wiped out.. if i was closer would come help you out...
I came home from Faiths and lay down and was out for about an hour and a 1/2 ,went and picked up my son and dropped him off and got gas for the car... will pick up chinese food for Faith tonight and pack some clothes and food gor the next couple days.. and then im there until 4 on Sunday.. with Wednesday, Thursday,Saturday and Sunday should mske slmost 900 dollars..comes in handy for the bills.4 -

Heather: Your younger brother has a beard similar to my DH’s. Hairlines are similar, too.
Sharon: Re Blackberries, I put several inches of water in the sink and dump them in. dirt and bugs come to the top. When I’ve cleared that out, I put the berries on cookie trays to dry. After that comes eating berries, making kuchen, an old family favorite, and freezing berries. We haven’t done that in a couple of years. :ohwell:
(((Lisa))): We’ve never owned a home that didn’t turn into a money pit. You’ll get through this.
Machka: We celebrate little things rather than huge challenges. DH‘s health is our biggest challenge. He has diabetes and MS. Those are enough challenges for the foreseeable future. Our choice is to create daily fun. That includes walking in the neighborhood in nice weather & going to outdoor music events nearby. I ride my friend’s horse.
Faye: We see Mt St Helens and Mt Hood from one street above us. Trees block our view of the mountains from home during the summer. We see more when the trees shed their leaves.
Vicki: Spraying the ants with Raid didn’t seem to help at all. I was advised to try mint. I chose to try German Thyme instead and it worked. I haven’t seen the tiny monsters in a couple of days. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they won’t be back.
Peach: I am a tall girl, and it took lots of hard work after finding this group to get rid of enough extra pounds to feel slim. :ohwell: During teaching days the parent group brought in treats for us—VooDoo doughnuts, Starbucks coffee with sweeties in it, ice cream, and so on. I have several tall women friends who are not slim. :ohwell:
Pip: Congrats on the new phone! You’re good to go!

Machka: Prior to Covid we would eat at a restaurant. Now we are celebrating at home with favorite home cooked meals.
Sue in WA: Congrats on the good news from your biopsy!!!! Cancer free is very, VERY GOOD NEWS.
Heather: Don’t beat yourself up. Vanity is a huge motivator, and look how well you’ve used it!
Terri: Our extended family had annual Fourth of July picnics during my growing up years. When the elders began passing away the family reunions passed with them. The last one was held at Paradise Park in Salem. I believe it has since been made into a manufactured home park. :ohwell:
Michele: I agree that Pip has the ability to use her boot whenever someone needs it. We’ll all have to be “big girls’” AKA responsible women, while she’s on the road to her new home.

Rori: It is so good to see your post!!! I’m sorry to hear about your DB’s health worries but delighted that the VA is stepping up with home health care and respite care for your husband. This sounds like a wonderful blessing. Treading water in the now is brightened by the prospect of help for your DH’s care from the VA, the sooner the better. So sorry that your brother is suffering. I hope things improve for him, too.

We have no plans for the day, so far. It may be a kick back and read day. I won’t mind that at all.

Comparative weights - I stopped comparing myself to other women in the sense of weight... and quit torturing my husband with it as well. You know the question... "Is my butt as big as hers?" There is no good answer for that. If he says "No," you think he's fibbing, and if he says "Yes," you get your feelings hurt. Not fair to the DH at all.
Elliptical - ✅ - 46 minutes
Rower - ✅ - 20 minutes
Shopping - ✅ - Completed for the week
Today may require a nap.
