I might be the the king of weird NSV's
I have another weird one. I was running and I noticed veins in the back of my fingers. It sounds gross, but I promise it wasn't. I could see Just enough to realize what was going on and only when my heart rate was up. I recently switched from my regular wedding band to one of those silicone ones because it was too lose, but I get that a lot. Like in cold weather. But this is the first time I have been able to see veins in the back of my fingers since I was a skin and bones teenager.12 -
Today I pushed back the office chair and boosted the computer on a few boxes so I can stand at work (from home) more often.17

I did up my belt on the last (tightest) hole. That's the last of the holes I had made in the belt last time I was losing weight, which did not get used until I was a bit below my current goal weight. It seems that I am that size now even though I am still 5-6 kg above that weight!11

I can’t even begin to state enough how weird of a puzzle this has been for me (and therefore how excited I am about the whole thing). I don’t know if it’s age or hormone fluctuations after 3 kids but what worked for me after child number 2 has been a total crapshoot for the last 2yrs, since having child number 3. So I guess the second NSV is that I’m not viewing these last 2yrs as a “waste” but instead I’m acknowledging the (small) progress that does exist and choosing to celebrate having finally figured out what this version of me needs.
I relate to this so hard! Over the years, I have tried eating 1000, 1200, 1500, 2200 and 2500 calories and failed each time. I finally found a daily cal intake that allows me to drop weight at a decent pace while keeping my hunger pangs in check.
Yay!! Mentally, it was harder for me to eat more and lose so slowly than it is for me now to eat less and lose at a manageable rate. Experiencing tangible success is a huge motivator!3 -
I was able to climb up to (and around) Ambrose Island in my canoe. It was about three miles up, and then back of course.
I started about 1.75 miles upstream from where I usually start, so I avoided a couple climbs and the "crowded" part of the river. It was work.32 -
I'm actually really proud of my macros today. Less than 100 grams carbs and just over 120 grams protein. Super happy about that.18

September was my 2nd highest step month this year at an avg of 12 031 steps per day.
My annual average is now hovering around 9500 - with a conscious mindset I definitely think the 10 000 steps per day average is within reach for 2020!20 -
Few for the last week:
- Logged every day
- Out minus In was +ve every day
- Average calorie deficit of 510kcal per day last week. (I'm happy if I get above 400, I'm ecstatic if I get above 500)13 -
Logging for a whole year. The good, the bad, and the ugly. No breaks, just honesty.30

I stayed within calories for 10 days straight! Being consistent has always been hard for me, and doing that for those 10 days gave me a big confidence boost and made me feel better physically. Those 10 days included my son's birthday party and having leftover cake and cupcakes sitting on the counter for a week. I had a small piece of cake at the party and another small piece a couple days later and was perfectly satisfied with that. I had some difficulty yesterday (back to school and work anxiety got the better of me) and went over budget but am trying to get back on track asap. I felt awful this morning after eating more than I needed last night so I dont think ill be doing that again any time soon!
Thanks to everyone for posting your successes! I love this thread and am always so inspired by everyone's hard work! 💕17 -
NSV - two month update: (cross posted on my feed)
Well...Partial Scale victory I guess.
This year has been crazy for pretty much everyone. While at the beginning of it in March was all comfort food and day drinking; I recently decided to use this time I was given as a means to change. Not just eating and exercise. I quit tobacco cold turkey (well, a bit. Had some of that nicotine gum on hand for when I thought I'd falter). That was always on my to-do list but the stress of life always seemed more overwhelming than my need to quit. Not this time. Today is 2 months free. I did stumble a month or so ago but it left me feeling like garbage. I'm actually glad I did it since it pretty much solidified my resolve for walking this path. In July I essentially put a "pause" on weight loss. I knew quitting tobacco would cause my weight to jump and I was okay with that. The oral fixation and withdrawal could be swayed with some comfort food. To my surprise my weight stayed stagnant. Best case scenario for me in this situation.
Drinking had to be severely cut down as well. I was never an alcoholic, but the "social" part of drinking went away with social distancing and eventually drifted to "pass the time drinking" and "why the f*** not?" drinking; wasn't like I had anywhere to be. I do have some bourbon now and then. I don't plan to have 0, just with much more moderation. The advent of summer and outdoor get-togethers only increased the amount of alcohol consumption. I avoided beer and figured I'd drink "healthy" by pounding Hard Seltzer. Doesn't work that way when you need to drink 1500 calories worth of hard seltzer to get a buzz. I was already on my weight loss journey by then but was not seeing the results I wanted. When I logged it and found I needed to drink damn near the entire 12 pack to get a buzz...I realized a hard reset was exactly what my body needed.
Sleep. Get good sleep people. I used my vices as late night distractions and would sleep very poorly. Getting a full nights rest is one of your best weight loss tools. I thought I could handle my vices, poor sleep AND weight loss. False.
Today officially marks 27 lbs total weight lost since starting in Nov 2019. I'm still heavier than I've been most of my life.
But I've also never felt healthier.
Be safe, be strong and be blessed41 -
I finally started doing some resistance training (I know, I know, I should have started a long time ago, but... better late than never).
Everything hurts! (In a good way, though).25 -
I have moved up to using 3kg dumbbells from 2kg, for most moves/circuits. To put that in perspective, when I started back in May It was using 0.5 kg dumbbells. I am really noticing the difference in my shoulders which have been a problem area for me for ages.20

Retired from service sixteen years ago which began my climb to an unhealthy weight. While body comp has certainly changed, my losses this year have been significant enough to allow me to once again fit (albeit snugly) into my old uniform. Made of wool with little give, it is the smallest item in my closet, and while I still have a way to go to meet my target weight, I'm feeling pretty good about the journey so far.36

Today for the first time someone not related to me (co-worker) commented that I look good in reference to my weight-loss and it felt good to hear it.28

I am wearing a medium shirt that I haven’t worn in over 10 years. My husband saw it on me and all he said was Wow. 💃🏿37

Apparently losing 45 pounds helped with the urge incontinence. For which I am very very grateful.24

Well, don't know what an NSV is....but it sounds like you're happy. Congrats!1

I have been a soda addict for years - decades really. I used to drink numerous cans of Coke a day, within the last couple of years I switched to Coke Zero which was a step in a better direction. Sadly, I didn't really back off on the quantity that I was drinking and I was still consuming A LOT of soda in a day. Since I started taking control over my choices and my health, I've been drinking more water and I've noticed...I haven't had a soda (nor craved one) in 4 weeks!! It wasn't an intentional choice, it just kind of happened - it's funny how some things fall into place when you focus on the big picture.30

An NSV is a non-scale victory. This thread is inspirational!

It's only sort of a NSV because it's directly related to my weight, but I knocked out a set of five chin ups this morning. Haven't done that in years, and it's all due to getting progressively leaner (17% BF down from 25% BF).20

That's quite impressive work! One-rep maxes are tough as we get older because it's easier to injure ourselves and it takes longer to recover. I'd focus more on a three rep max or a five rep max and use a 1RM calculator. Good job!4 -
My most recent NSV: going on a road trip with a friend...in my "BEFORE" days that would have meant stocking up on M&Ms and Twizzlers when we stopped for gas, but THIS time I planned ahead and brought organic snap peas and Turkey Chomps to snack on! Woo Hoo! Felt so good!20

Yay for planning ahead to avoid pitfalls! I'll bet you felt better too, eating that stuff. (Aren't Turkey Chomps great? I love the things.)
My NSV for today was being kinda "hormonal" and still logging everything and keeping under my calorie max.9 -
Went out for pizza and wings- ate 4 wings and 2 pieces of flat bread pizza + a Mic Ultra. I was only +115 over my calories for the day because I was careful all day. I could have, and definitely in the past would have eaten more but tonight it was just enough. I have a friend doing another program and she will not consider eating out because of it. I personally cannot live that way. Proud that I could eat without over indulging.27

My jog today - fastest 2 miles I have ever run and probably the fastest mile since middle school.26 -
Got in my jeans today. Been my goal for 3 months. Love it.32
-
Have ridden over 2200 miles on my mountain bike so far this Summer.25
-
@nighthawk584 That is VERY impressive! One thing to get that many miles on a road bike, but a whole other category to rack up that many miles on mountain.6
-
A couple of them today - I can reliably get into size large shirts now, when I used to have to wear 2x. Also I have been doing a lot of work around the house and I can happily stand for a long time now, and walk around doing stuff for a long time, without having to sit down to rest my back every few minutes. This may sound funny but often I end up cleaning up around the place just for the pleasure of not being in pain!31
