@marisap2010 fantastic job! I bet you feel so great. I felt like it took a long time but once I saw my arms toning up it was such a boost.
@polskagirl01 yay for getting your spot in the race! Quite the HM streak you have going and you are killing it!
@Teresa502 how are you feeling about your MCM virtual coming up?

I'm getting a little excited even though we won't have the hoopla that we would experience in DC. Thankfully, there are 7 of us who will be running it on October 25th. Hopefully, the weather will be nice that day. It's the same day the in-person race was to be held. One of the girls has started have knee issues and another one is coming back from a broken foot. She is up to 5 miles but plans to run, walk or crawl to the end! A retired Marine is going to be at the finish line to put medals on our necks. We're running it on a rails-to-trails path so he's also dropping us off at one end and then waiting 26.2 miles down the trail until each of us finishes. Very kind of him to offer to use his entire day for us. A couple of other friends are setting up aid stations.
Good job on keeping your run streak alive and well! A bare minimum day is on my schedule too. I did a stretching and an abs video before work. I may do an easy bike ride at lunch but that's it. I've got 20 miles on my plan for tomorrow.6 -

4.5 miles this morning. I couldn't get out yesterday morning so Hal has downgraded me to a C+.
Tomorrow was supposed to be a rest day but I'll take the dog out for a few easy miles. I need at least 2.25 to get my 20 miles for the week/Javelina Jallucinations. Figure I'll do 5k and call it a day. Sunday is a 10k virtual race (running for the bulls - benefits a local dog/pitbull rescue). I had a choice of in person or virtual. I want to limit my exposure to people and get in trail time so I picked virtual.
I'm only doing in person for the races I was already signed up for before covid. Yes, I had 3 fall races waaaaay back before covid. It's a trail series, 3 in spring & 3 in fall. The 3 spring have been moved to 2021 spring.
I'm rambling now. Lol10 -

Are you still doing the MCM virtual @T1DCarnivoreRunner ?
@Teresa502 Yes, absolutely!
Here's my plan:
10/3 - Witch Dance 25K (Houston, MS)
10/17 - Walking Tall 25K (Pocahontas, TN)
10/18 - Wade Mountain 1/2 Marathon (Huntsville, AL)
Week of 10/19 or maybe 10/31? (not sure) - MCM Virtual (will find a good spot)3 -
1002-5.6k, total-5.6k goal-100k
An easy run to kick off the month. 15 degrees C. I think the days of short sleeve shirts are coming to an end, and there are gloves not far in the future. Was starting to feel exceedingly hungry toward the end, and somehow ended up in a convenience store. Only escaped four pieces of fried chicken later. Argh.
@polskagirl01 Glad you got a spot! Go easy for a few days, sounds like you really need some rest.
@Teresa502 That sounds awesome. 26.2 is a great achievement no matter what.9 -
@quilteryoyo I live just south of Huntsville, AL in a small town called Somerville. We live on the outskirts of that town, on a mountain, just past the kudzu fields. LOL! Hubby and I were in Gatlinburg the week of the 14th and enjoyed every minute!
Today I ran 6.42 miles
October miles: 11.83
Space Race Miles: 200.66 Just 47.84 to go!6 -
10/1 – 6 miles
10/2 – 9 miles
15 (15.24) of 115 miles
@kristinajeang ha ha it’s great when they close to age and have each other. Glad @polskagirl01 said about only having one hour to edit. When they are little not being splashed all over everywhere is good. I figure at Skip’s age, she’s 20, she’s done enough damage herself ha ha
I heard the singles vaccine was painful too, though I agree the shingles itself is supposed to be awful
@eleanorhawkins I’ve had a lot of black nails, I have 2 that just have been that way forever, but I’ve never had anything leaky, that might be something I’d have looked at.
@quilteryoyo @WandaVaughn and I are neighbors, we live in basically the same town, at least close enough to call it that. She’s just South of Huntsville and I’m just West.
@RunsOnEspresso that dang Hal.

I had to laugh out loud at this and then thank my lucky stars that I usually run on country roads with no convenience stores! The struggle is real!

Nice easy 2 mile today! It felt good to get out and stretch the legs after the 5k yesterday. Not sure when/if I'll run this weekend. TBD, but I'd only run one of the days, not both, just to make sure I get at least one rest day in before the c25k run on Monday!

The doctor who operated on it? Is that person still around and in your rolodex? Good luck with this but it sounds like a medical professional might help. I am so sorry you have to put up with this so close to a race. Ugh.0 -
Hey guys!
Late to the party due to holiday and a week off of life.
I actually have an October goal. It's not a distance goal - though 50km would be good...
My goal is to run injury free in October! I should be able to do my first run on Tuesday. 3 days!!!11 -

I never have the nerve with my own toes but my husband has done it with his toe and it was much improved afterwards. Just be sure to keep it clean.
Y'all have a lot more stomach than I do. I almost faint at the thought of painful things happening to my boney areas.

October Goal: 100 Miles
I started off October with a 10K. It was another perfect running weather morning. I could really get used to this. I have a HM coming up on November 7th. I was following a Hal Higdon plan that I tweaked, and the last few weeks I have been running, but not doing any speed work. So today I attempted a Tempo Run. I'm not entirely sure if I did it right.
You are where I want to be in about in 3-4 months. Right now I'm finishing a 10K training plan, will do a virtual 10K, take a week off, then start on training for a HM that would be in mid Feb, if it were being held. How did you choose that particular training plan for your HM?

Took a ride on the bike today down to the seafront and back, managed to dodge the rain!2

So, I had a post typed up yesterday, and clearly got distracted before pressing send. And my browser refresh disappeared it.
I ended September with something like 16 miles. I am hoping October will be a bit more consistent, and will increase my mileage per run by at least a little. I signed up for a virtual brewery run mileage challenge for an additional carrot. They let you pick your mileage goal, and you earn prizes based on the percentage of your goal that you hit. I set that mileage goal at 30 miles.
However, I think they only count miles that you log AFTER you sign up. And I didn’t remember to sign up until yesterday after my run. So, my official October goal I guess will be a very random seeming 32 miles.
Today was self care in the form of physical therapy appointment and a massage on my Friday off. Ankle was more swollen than even I would have expected after my run last night, but it led to good conversation with the PT. He also did more dry needling on it... only this time he added little mini jumper cables to electrify the dang needles.... definitely not sure what to think about that. Kind of felt like a tens unit type feeling.... when everything was done he put some k tape on the thing. He also is beginning to think we should get a new set of x rays, because even though there is no new injury, and it’s the same old stuff since the last set of x rays. What I think I understood from his explanation is that he is wondering if the duration of the wonkiness could be leading to an arthritis type response, which could alter some of his suggestions.
But, whatever all he did today, oh my goodness am I sore/gimpy at this point. So, I am fully predicting no run today.
Anyways, 1.8 yesterday = 1.8/ 327 -

I have no idea, I was about 14 and it was done at the military hospital in Gibraltar. I don't really remember why, but I think it had something to do with us not having been in Spain long enough to be entitled to state healthcare and I guess language too... no idea, I did as I was told back then. For another 2 years at least ;-)
It's a lot better today, doesn't seem to be leaking any more unless I press down hard on the nail, I think I just burst the blister with the clippers and it was the liquid inside that that was slowly escaping. At least it hasn't hurt today. More antibiotic slathering before bed. Maybe I will just do the distance for the virtual race tomorrow but not 'race' it. Who am I fooling?7 -
Afternoon, everybody!
Skimmed, but @avidkeo JUST THREE DAYS! You have done so well caring for your body! I hope you are proud of that! You should be.
@noblsheep fried chicken may well be one of the things I miss most.
@tramboman I love light ran runs.
@TheMrWobbly a bike ride also sounds nice. The weather here is beautiful.
@AlphaHowls glad to see ya! Looks like the crickets are still treating you well!
Had three rest days. I lifted last night. Also had a zoom meeting to plan my 100 miler with Nick and Sophie and my big brother as crew. I cannot tell you how amazed I am at the support and all the people that have said yes. They're people that I only know via the Run the Year and Uncanceled groups. It was soooooooo nice to "see" my big brother. He is ex-army and it shows, lol. He is so incredibly strategic and focused and professional. I would not attempt something this crazy without him. Or.... yes I would. But I feel better knowing he'll be there. I think he may have only said yes because he wants to make sure I stay alive, rotfl. He's the absolute best. I think Nick and Sophie said yes just because I said, "hey if I run 100 miles, will you be my crew?" Same with them. Wouldn't trust anyone else with it. In fact, I already don't. These are my nearest and dearest.
So anyway, the Indiana Fort Wayne Trails guy is absolutely amazing and he reminds me of the male version of me, which is kind of crazy. I'm so glad that I got to see him on zoom so I feel like I know who I am dealing with.
Today, he sent the map with the route. It is a spoke system, utilizing all of Fort Wayne's trail system. On the last 2.5 miles, I will need to do an out and back to get the full 100. This is gonna be nuts. Last night they were talking about safety concerns, and I was like wait, what? I've been running solo this whole time! Fear not! But then they mentioned running in soft snow and I was like ew gross.
It's all a little bit overwhelming - I have never created my own 100 mile race before. The trail guy in Indy said they only said yes to helping me because it's insane and they want to watch, BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I guess that's fair.
Here's my dilemma - I have five siblings. FIVE. I have only told 1. Because. Hear me out. My family is so dramatic and the others (my twin included) will be quite upset that I did not choose their states. I will tell them, eventually. Once the route is approved and reviewed and signed off on, etc. Then, I will tell them all, hey, here's where I'll be. Come if you want to. Don't, if you don't.
They won't.
Or at least. I can think of 1 that might.
It doesn't matter a ton. It's just that I know the emotional bruising I'm headed for.
Also, I'm thinking about going to Austin for the Austin Rattler because it's a qualifier for the Leadville 100. The reason I think it might be okay is because very few people will go because of covid. Which increases my chances of getting into Leadville.
Or. it increases my chances of getting covid and bringing it home.....
Or. It is too much to try to do in one year.
Or. All of the above.
Tomorrow, I'm supposed to run with Nick. It'll be the first time ever in my life that I have purposefully run with someone. It's my least favorite of all ideas ever but for some reason, I'm looking forward to having some company. It gets lonely, all these miles out there.
Anyway, I love you all and I hope you have a fantastic evening or morning or afternoon, depending on where you are reading from.
12 -
@eleanorhawkins I hope your toe heals up ok. That sounds bad!
I think my toenails must be made of steel. I hear all these stories from runners about bruising and losing toenails. I've never had any issue and I was a ballet dancer for years and now running and rock climbing for the past couple of years. All of those sports seem to be hard on toes. The worst I've done is crack 2 nails from wearing climbing shoes for about 3 hrs. But they didn't bruise or fall off, just grew out.5 -
@Camaramandy648 I'll have to remember the Austin Rattler for a future race. Austin is pretty close and I like trail races. But I'll probably stick to the 10k. I'm generally abide by a HM or shorter policy.

3.1/70 miles
10/2: 3.1 miles
On the board for October! This cool weather has me wanting to go a little harder and see if the heat training will pay off. I ended up pushing it today and got a new PR for my 5k and 1 mile! And I ran negative splits!
My plan starts picking up a little this month on my way to the HM in January. I'm definitely interested to see how my pace compares to HM training last year.4 -
New to the group and getting back to running. That said I am in for 30 running and 20 walking in October.7
-
You are where I want to be in about in 3-4 months. Right now I'm finishing a 10K training plan, will do a virtual 10K, take a week off, then start on training for a HM that would be in mid Feb, if it were being held. How did you choose that particular training plan for your HM?
I'm not @kgirlhart but I've used Hal's plans for HM training and really liked them. Not sure how she modified it, but I usually tweak them a little because I run 4 days a week and the plans often have 5 days of running. I used the novice plan for my 1st HM and then the last 6 weeks or so of the intermediate 2 plan in the time between my 1st and 2nd HM. Both were exactly what I needed at those times. The volume of running wasn't too crazy once I tweaked it for my schedule but it was enough to get me ready. I even dropped a little less than 30 minutes off my time between my 2 races.4 -
Hi guys got my first run for October. A run walk for about 6 miles, it was nice weather and was nice to just enjoy it.
@eleanorhawkins ooh that toe sounds painful. Glad it’s feeling better.
@noblsheep yum fried chicken
@Camaramandy648 lol, I wanna watch the crazy too 😆2 -
@marisap2010 Great job on the weight loss and toning! You're doing great!
@polskagirl01 Yeah for getting a spot in the HM!
@Teresa502 That is so nice that the retired Marine is going to help you out and be at the finish line to give you your medals! That will make it even more special!
@WandaVaughn Laughed at the kudzu fields remark. We have a lot of it around here too. Cool that you and @skippygirlsmom live so close.
Doing great @kristinajeang !
@T1DCarnivoreRunner I wouldn't pass up that medal either!
Welcome @70Allie6570 !
