congrats on losing the weight! maintenance is harder, but worth it. If rules 3 and 4 work for you, that's great! Though, the evidence does not support them.

Just keep in mind that you don't want to go through that again. That's what is keeping me going. I can't go back to 450 and 500 and 570 just to have to lose it all over again. I'm 390 as of this morning. My mind couldn't take it!9

Congratulations, you've made it! I have a similar story, lost 2lb a week throughout 2019 (103 total) and have now been in maintenance for 9.5 months. So far I'm finding that the only way to make sure I don't slip back into old habits is to keep logging everything (set my target to "maintain" and if I go a bit over one day make sure I compensate the next) and weigh myself every week. It's a bit of a pain to need to record everything I eat but it's soooo much better than putting it all back on again. Your "after" picture is incredible; I'm mid-40s, so know that my skin has lost elasticity, but I have acquired loads of saggy skin even though I kept to a steady 2lb/week loss. Nothing I can do about it so I'm trying to look on it as a reminder never to do that to myself again. I don't necessarily agree with all the tips that you gave but it's fantastic that they worked for you (personally I found that a glass of water before every meal helped me to feel fuller!). I think the main thing for me though was feeling in control. There was nothing that I couldn't eat but it was all my choice – "I can eat this but then I can't have that 'cos it'll take me over the daily allowance" – and that helped me to make smarter decisions. I feel amazing and at least 10 years younger. I've had to buy a whole new wardrobe and that adds to the excitement. It's great to go in a shop knowing that they will have your size and I won't have to do a 'special order' online. I'm also happy to look in a mirror now, and my confidence is off the scale.

Had a 5am run this morning, first time for years. Checking my Fitbit I was surprised that the difference in calories used compaied to mountain biking (which i prefer) was small. I'll stick with the bike from now on.5

Congratulations! well done. I am on a similar journey. I've been Morbidly Obese most of my life, I've had Baratric Surgery 2 times with little success each time. Then my marriage breaking up turned a switch 10 months ago. Result. 151 lbs so far, and still going. I still have a ways to go yet. But every single thing you mentioned is relevant, and I do.. I am working on self care, and focusing in on my own goals. Happiness is now #1 on my list... Keep up the great work!10

Cutting out fizzy drinks and not drinking whilst eating I think had the biggest impact. It takes some time to get use to but the weight will fall off and you can still eat the things you like.
This is what a year can do.

Fantastic! You both look incredible and most important of all, healthy! Do you exercise together? How has life changed for you as a couple since your lifestyle change? What was it about your wife's transformation that inspired you? Did you realise if you stick at small changes they all add up?

Congrats you look amazing. A true inspiration. I had my surgery on 7/1/20. I had RNY and Im down 100lbs. Now the goal is to keep going and loose 54 more and keep it off. My husband bought me a fitbit to help keep me motivated.2

I lost 130 pounds and some of your tips are good, some are good for many people, and some were good for YOU (and its always the trick to find what works for you).
Cut down on your portion sizes. - I use a side plate.
agree especially for people who like their plate to look full. But I got fat eating my dinners off side plates so.... yanno. whatever LOL
Use a small fork or teaspoon and slow down. Lay your cutlery down between mouthfuls. It should take 20min to eat you dinner.
eating slower helps you to recognize when you are actually full and not just shoveling food in your mouth because its in front of you. I don't think size makes a difference, but if it worked for you, that's great. If I put my utensil down I run the risk of a dog grabbing it and running off with it, so I shall hold onto it LOL
Stop drinking anything fizzy. - fizzy drinks expand you stomach and then you eat more to fill the extra space.
nope. well, maybe for some. I try not to speak in absolutes. but I drink diet coke from when I put my coffee down in the morning to when I go to bed. Still lost 130 pounds.
Don’t drink whilst eating. If you feel like you need a drink, its because your belly is full and needs to be flushed by fluid to fit more in - don’t do it. When you finish eating wait 5min before having a drink.
I have NEVER heard this and might call BS on it. Id never get through a meal without a drink.
Keep to food thats less than 3% fat and 5% sugar.
nope. its all about CICO. i eat desert every night. usually oreos. someones 2. sometimes 8. I'm having apple pie tonight.
Exercise. I try to do a 30min mountain bike ride up and down some steep hills where I live 3 times a week.
You do not need to exercise to lose weight BUT it can help give you some extra calories to eat and if has NUMEROUS health benefits.
