Less Alcohol - NOVEMBER 2020 - One Day at a Time

November 28.20 will mark my 2 year anniversary of joining this thread. I don't think that I have missed a day. It has really helped me. Checking in keeps me on track.
Tracking my food has helped me lose weight and feel healthier.
Tracking my Drinking less has also helped me lose weight and feel healthier.
I started on this thread drinking every day, 1 or 2 drinks a day after work. The first week on this thread led to my first AF day in years the following week. I got myself to 2AF days per week and stuck on that for a month. Gradually I added AF days in my weeks until I arrived at where I have stood at for about a year, 16-20AF days per month as my personal goal. I am happy with that goal.
I don't intend to give up alcohol.
I love just about any type of cocktail and seasonal alcohol (and non-alcohol) beverages.
Much like my friends who have a sweet tooth and limit it to a few times a week, I limit my alcohol intake now.
Some days it is easier than others.
Having this thread to check into has, and continues to, help me along my journey of drinking less.9 -
@dawnbgethealthy WOW two years in two weeks. I should have remembered your first day here because that is my hubs birthday.
Your contributions here are priceless. You have had an incredible life, heck your a rock star. How fortunate for you and us that the information and stories shared help in so many ways.
And your profile pic says it all, without words.

I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
I check in diary style. It works for me.
Tuesday Nov 10 - Drinks. Seemingly back to making Tuesday my drinks day.
Wednesday Nov 11 - AF - Remembrance Day.
Thursday Nov 12 - AF
Friday Nov 13 - Drinks. Friday the 13th!! We had that one teaser snowfall 2 weeks ago and then it all melted away. Today we got a really exciting big dump of the stuff. I got out to a circular trail that normally takes me about 15 minutes, but 10 inches of snow made it take blissfully longer. The sound of deep snow with my new hearing aid was so wonderfully overwhelming for me. Photos to come...if y'all don't mind : - )
Rolling total. 9AF day out of 13 days8 -

Whoa, wow! That is my late father's birthday also!!!
Cool : - )4 -
@dawnbgethealthy 😲 10" dump of snow!? I would be having a melt down this early in the Fall to get hit with that amount....my leaves aren't even all cleaned up yet.
Not that I do not care for snow. I love ❄love ❄ love snowshoeing. It was my go to daily exercise back in my early 30's & 40's. Then my first dog died and I had no companion to keep me company on my hour shoe trail.I know, bad excuse for not keeping up with it. Maybe this is the year to dig them out, dust them off and re-live some great memories of her.7 -
We brought wine with us and so did my aunt and sister ... to this small Arkansas town. Met at the hotel after long drive. While my mom napped we had a glass of wine. Then went to the evening visitation for her husband 6-8pm. Grabbed fried shrimp & catfish for dinner for the hotel room afterward. More wine as we all sat around with mom while she told us all of her husband's family that attended. He had 5 kids, 9 grandkids, 13 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids. I had more wine than planned.
3 glasses for me.

@dawnbgethealthy Thank you for sharing your past and progress! Love the story and hope to aspire to more AF days in the future.
I love snow ... but I love playing in it, relaxing around it, skiing, etc. When I had to work around it and drive to work it was a totally different thing. But this southern girl does know how to drive on ice and snow from my short time living north.
Enjoy your snow.6 -
@Lilylady3k given the circumstances, you are doing truly amazing!
Over here since I am not drinking my head is sweet-obsessed. I need to make a few pies for Thanksgiving. They need to be gluten-free and one can be all out decadent but the other on the light side. I'd welcome any recommendations
Taking it easy this weekend and just going for one long hike on Sunday. I will try to take pictures if I see any wild horses. It will be sunny and 82 degrees

What the wind down looks like this evening after cleaning out the garage most of the day:

@Lilylady3k I agree with @globalhiker for what you have endured you are better than most would be. Take time for yoursef.
@globalhiker I make a winter sqash mousse parfait pie. It is very very good for Thanksgiving. It is layed mousse then ginger snaps, then mousse. Topped with home made whipped cream then crumbled lightly with ginger snap for garnish.5 -
Funeral, social lunch afterwards pot luck with tons of food & desserts, long 6 hr drive home, picked up our dog at my daughter's ... she and her husband made dinner for us. DH & my sister brought in a bottle of wine from the car. My daughter pulled out another. DH pulled out a wine glass for me but did not pour one for me. I was exhausted and got a glass of water instead.
AF this evening.

Reviewing my goal for this month and accountability toward it. Much better than October! Even though I've had a few slips of more than 2 glasses in an evening the numbers are at least balanced and not out of control.
This next week will again be challenging. DH's birthday (Tues). Our 37th wedding anniversary (Thurs). Two book club meetings with the book/wine groups LOL (Mon & Wed). And they are all weekdays! The one highlight is that my bloodwork and physical are mid week and this is making me try my darnedest to stay strong and then enjoy and celebrate our anniversary.

Cold crisp morning. A light frozen frost on the ground. It is Sunday, not a hunting day up this way, so I bundled up and hit the walking trail at 6:15AM. Crunching leaves and snapping twigs beneath my feet and the cold air flowing through my nose. IT WAS WONDERFUL
No one around, not even a car passed me. Saw the fog rising up off the salt water and drifting over the tree tops.
Great start to the third week of NOvember to Remember.
Accountability week 2 ~ alcohol free 7 days straight last week.7 -
@Lilylady3k you do have more hurdles coming up next week. The medical appointments will probably keep you from going off the rails. Your November tallies look good.5

Happy Sunday! Work is kicking my *kitten* and likely will through Jan. Somewhat thankful for the distraction, but often don't have the will some days to be online beyond the 10-11 hours outside of work. But I'm making time again, at least on weekends, for important connections and reflections.
I'm so proud of everyone here who is trying to better their lives, showing such strength, and supporting each other in doing so during a most turbulent time.
I feel I've been struggling with my inner kid who keeps saying, "This isn't fair." But "tant" has fallen off my tantrum, lol. So realized what I really need to do is continually readjust my thinking. The grown-up Lisa knows life isn't fair and wants to enjoy the most out of it every single day. Which can't happen with daily wining or whining.
So I did face the fact and allowed myself a little meltdown. I won't see my kids for Tgiving, and one son will be alone on TGiving. Won't see them for Christmas. Or prob Easter. But we can video chat and watch virtual movies together. And we will get through this.
I'm recommitting to more AF days than not, and not enough on drinking days to affect my ability to enjoy the next day to the fullest.
Thank you, @MissMay for your continued leadership here.7 -
Continuing to be aware of things that make me happy.
I love your post about walking in the crisp air @MissMay
What a wondrous thing it is when the snow puffs down from the trees!
This is a beach very near to where I live.
Yes, snow makes me happy : - )

@dawnbgethealthy Thanks for the snow pictures! Share them anytime. I grew up in the’70s in Upstate NY with lake effect snow. I love ❄️☃️❄️ snow!! Trying to imagine a retirement area with snow, but someone else doing the shoveling 😁8
-
I'm loving the snow pictures.4
-
@dawnbgethealthy Please keep them coming!4
-
@mainelylisa hello again. Good to be busy, but make time for you as well. What are we going to do with that inner child of yours? Tisk tisk. I think what is "fair" to some is not fair for others. It is the devil verses the angel on different shoulders.4

Those black and white photos are stunning @dawnbgethealthy. So beautiful.3

And in my yard there is one flowering pear tree that won't release it's leaves so I can rake them away.

@MissMay - Love the autumn colors!
@dawnbgethealthy - They are right ... professional looking black & white snow photos. Those would look so cool ... if you wanted to try a winter spring summer fall mix of photos on a wall!3 -
Hi everyone! My goal is to only have a couple drinks on the weekend or on a holiday/special occasion.... I have gotten into the habit of having 2 drinks a night after work & I've put on 10lbs since summer. Soooo I need to get a grip!!! I think cutting back on my alcohol consumption will help. Today will be my first AF day 👍Looking forward to supporting you all with your goals! 😊 We got this!!
Goal: 5 AF days a week.10 -
@brittgreenlikethecolor88 how awesome to hear you back in here posting again. It is so easy to have a habit become something that has a mind of it's own. A little bit a re-thnking and accountability with alcohol will help the pounds disappear.6

Room for another? I have been off and on MFP for a few years. Stumbled in here once or twice, fell out of shape, out of will power and started drinking more than I should.
Thinking getting close to 40 and I don't need to be in shape any longer or care anymore.
Holidays coming up and that makes me want to drink more.6 -
@MissMay I’ve got one of those pear trees, and a bunch of pin oaks which will finally fall in...January!?
@CMB44512 Welcome! We all follow our own path. I’m a 6-month newbie here and I’ve found support to simply make my own choices intentionally, drink by drink, day by day.
My success this weekend-I’m watching football 🏈 games without a beer in hand tonight. Monday morning should be a little easier 🤔😄5
