Well well well ... DH came home with a lovely spanish Albarino white wine. He commented "I know you are not planning to drink this evening so I didn't pour you a glass". "Thank you". I tried one sip of his and then continued drinking my water. I did splurge after dinner with a coffee that I picked up at the grocery store Starbucks Peppermint Mocha in a red coffee cup.

I have great news. Last night DH and myself were AF. This makes his 2nd time this week. WOO-HOO so proud of him. This is like the first time he's done this in all the years I have known him.
Really happy he is taking steps to improve his health. He's got a calorie savings of 8 IPAs this week so far so at this rate he's on track to drop quite a few lbs. this month.
8 IPAs=1600 calories=about half lb fat.
It is an easy weight loss for men without having to cut out the food.
I kept my mouth shut. I know that making a big deal out of it draws attention to the fact there was a problem in the first place and that is not a good feeling for him. He prefers to keep it easy and simple and not make a big deal about it.
Deep inside, I hope he continues and he feels motivated to hit 3 AF days next week because that will just be better for his body and he will lose weight faster.7 -
And I am thinking that @Lilylady3k and @globalhiker husbands are banding together unknowingly to support thier wives less alcohol goals and improve on their own.
Huge round of applause for the DH's even if they cant hear us.👏👍🤞7 -
@chocolate_owl I do like your idea Drinking Less For Health as a group label. For me, this is Drinking Less for Health and Happiness.
Makes me feel like drinking less isn't taking my fun away. Instead, it makes my world happier and better.

Another busy day Thursday working outside with the last of our nice weather slipping away. My 5 hour day raced without me even knowing what time it was.
This can sometimes be a trigger for me, my excitement from a super accomplished task. Last night as I sat and searched some recipes for something new to make as an entree for Thanksgiving. I began to get that nagging itch for something alcoholic.
I put my tablet down and thought about it, something I would not have done in the past. "Hmmmmmm really I thought do I want my sleep interrupted later on?"
Went to the frig and poured a mug of soy milk, heated it slighly and added a smidge of honey. Sipped until I decided what my holiday entree was going to be.
Thanksgiving menu complete.

I am Dawn and live in South East British Columbia. I am 60.
My goal remains the same as it has been for quite some time, 16-20 AF days per month.
I check in diary style. It works for me.
Tuesday Nov 10 - Drinks. Seemingly back to making Tuesday my drinks day.
Wednesday Nov 11 - AF - Remembrance Day.
Thursday Nov 12 - AF
Rolling total. 9AF day out of 12 days4 -
@MTW70 your not too far behind in November, you knew we would be here no matter what 😉. I see you picked back up and got back to your AF streak just fine. NICE JOB.
Always super to hear how you are doing.
Thanks @MissMay
I'm happily not drinking at the moment and DH is as well. Looking to get a long AF streak going for the rest of the month and regularly checking in with this group helps!

November 28.20 will mark my 2 year anniversary of joining this thread. I don't think that I have missed a day. It has really helped me. Checking in keeps me on track.
Tracking my food has helped me lose weight and feel healthier.
Tracking my Drinking less has also helped me lose weight and feel healthier.
I started on this thread drinking every day, 1 or 2 drinks a day after work. The first week on this thread led to my first AF day in years the following week. I got myself to 2AF days per week and stuck on that for a month. Gradually I added AF days in my weeks until I arrived at where I have stood at for about a year, 16-20AF days per month as my personal goal. I am happy with that goal.
I don't intend to give up alcohol.
I love just about any type of cocktail and seasonal alcohol (and non-alcohol) beverages.
Much like my friends who have a sweet tooth and limit it to a few times a week, I limit my alcohol intake now.
Some days it is easier than others.
Having this thread to check into has, and continues to, help me along my journey of drinking less.9 -

Friday Nov 13 - Drinks. Friday the 13th!! We had that one teaser snowfall 2 weeks ago and then it all melted away. Today we got a really exciting big dump of the stuff. I got out to a circular trail that normally takes me about 15 minutes, but 10 inches of snow made it take blissfully longer. The sound of deep snow with my new hearing aid was so wonderfully overwhelming for me. Photos to come...if y'all don't mind : - )

Whoa, wow! That is my late father's birthday also!!!

@dawnbgethealthy 😲 10" dump of snow!? I would be having a melt down this early in the Fall to get hit with that amount....my leaves aren't even all cleaned up yet.
Not that I do not care for snow. I love ❄love ❄ love snowshoeing. It was my go to daily exercise back in my early 30's & 40's. Then my first dog died and I had no companion to keep me company on my hour shoe trail.I know, bad excuse for not keeping up with it. Maybe this is the year to dig them out, dust them off and re-live some great memories of her.7 -
We brought wine with us and so did my aunt and sister ... to this small Arkansas town. Met at the hotel after long drive. While my mom napped we had a glass of wine. Then went to the evening visitation for her husband 6-8pm. Grabbed fried shrimp & catfish for dinner for the hotel room afterward. More wine as we all sat around with mom while she told us all of her husband's family that attended. He had 5 kids, 9 grandkids, 13 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids. I had more wine than planned.
3 glasses for me.

@dawnbgethealthy Thank you for sharing your past and progress! Love the story and hope to aspire to more AF days in the future.
I love snow ... but I love playing in it, relaxing around it, skiing, etc. When I had to work around it and drive to work it was a totally different thing. But this southern girl does know how to drive on ice and snow from my short time living north.
Enjoy your snow.6 -
@Lilylady3k given the circumstances, you are doing truly amazing!
Over here since I am not drinking my head is sweet-obsessed. I need to make a few pies for Thanksgiving. They need to be gluten-free and one can be all out decadent but the other on the light side. I'd welcome any recommendations
Taking it easy this weekend and just going for one long hike on Sunday. I will try to take pictures if I see any wild horses. It will be sunny and 82 degrees
