He’s a beauty. We had 4 dogs, 3 collies and a Samyoey huskey. The old collie died over a month ago. They’re like family😅5 -

Hi all. I've been MIA this month. I wanted to check in and say that I got my Pastor Vincent medal in the mail last night. I was explaining to the hubby about it all and got teary eyed.
November has been a different kind of race for me. I signed up to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I'm at 48, 535 right now with story left to go, so I'm going to make it! Have I been running, walking, or moving faster than a meander this month? Sadly, no. I won't go into medication complications here, but I'm hoping they're fixed now. Insomnia and uncontrollable appetites don't jive too well with my former running schedule. I have hopes for December!
For any of you who pray, please drop one for me on Wednesday. I have my first ever colonoscopy. Not looking forward to it.
Ok. Well, I hope to see y'all on the other side of this crazy month.12 -
Hey MFP'ers - I would love to join you next month...
Does anyone know of great resources (ie websites or videos) that have tips for dressing and shoes/accessories for running outdoors in the icy Canadian winter months?4 -
@WandaVaughn You will be in my prayers. I have had 3 colonoscopies. The procedure itself is easy peasy. The prep, not so much. Pray they don't find anything to worry about. I'm glad you are getting one. I know a lot of people who put them off until it is too late. I kept bugging my dad until he got one. We were lucky because they found several pre-cancerous polyps, one of which had some "fingers" starting to get into the colon. Had he waited much longer the outlook would have been much different.2

Hi gang, hopelessly, hideously behind after about a week. Work has been crazy - ‘it’ has arrived and with staff unwell or isolating it’s been a battle to keep the school open and the teaching staff still in are run ragged. But I’m lucky to be healthy and am just hoping I can stay that way - 3 more weeks until the Christmas break...
Managed a frosty 5 miles outside this morning as finally had both time and childcare - woohoo! If I run tomorrow I will make my month’s target.
It is very likely that I’ve missed discussion of this but is anyone doing this One Run Global event for Human Rights Day on December 10th? If not, any interest? Link here - https://onerun.global/?p=hg&fbclid=IwAR3NaTEo7RWestEnhaEIqbvE-IKay8FKLg0UdXrlIYlJqfNFPG3HtQOHC7U
Hope you’re all well and hoping I can find a window to catch up properly soon! X

Sunny, frosty, low 30s F and a light breeze from the south today. Saw and heard lots of robins and there was some skim ice on one of the local ponds.
@polskagirl01 Nothing like a good run with a little snow.
@WandaVaughn Don't stress. Like @quilteryoyo said, the procedure is easy; the prep is no fun, but a lot more fun than it used to be.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Re: colonoscopies. The American Cancer Society has recently updated their guidelines for colon cancer screenings to start screening at 45 for normal risk people due to an increase in colon cancer rates in younger people. I'll leave a link with a bit more info here.
https://www.cancer.org/cancer/colon-rectal-cancer/detection-diagnosis-staging/acs-recommendations.html
Like @quilteryoyo said, early detection is key. Caught early colon cancer is incredibly treatable. And, you may be able to screen using less invasive methods than a colonoscopy if you fall into a lower risk category.4 -
@Steph_135 - I am going to tag @juliet3455 hoping he will see this. He lives in Alberta and I am sure could help with your questions on cold weather running gear. Being in Southern California I am no help at all. There are many others here though who run in cold weather that can probably help too.2

Hey guys, kinda missed the last few days.been busy!
I had a very odd weekend. It was a great weekend but odd.
I was in call the whole weekend, and usually get at least 1, if not 2, calls per night. I woke Saturday morning surprised at no calls but kinda happy, because it was a busy day due to birthday activities. Then I woke Sunday morning, no calls, and thought wow what are the odds. Then this morning I woke at 4am, lay there wondering what the heck was going on! Kinda dozed for an hr or so, then at 525am the phone finally rang! And because that call was before 6am, I get most of the day off! I go in about 1515.
So because I was wide awake, I went for my first HM training run! It was only 3k, but feels great to be starting a plan. Fingers crossed I get across that finish line in Fabruary!7 -

Saturdays are usually speedwork for me and my husband, but since we raced on Thanksgiving we had planned in advance to go out to the trails on the far side of the Wolf River which are usually deserted. Well... we got there and couldn’t find a parking spot, because this:
Still, a couple dozen of people on horses seemed safer to be around than hundreds of people on foot at the park on the other side of the river! We parked catercorner in a wide part of the drive. Had to jump over a bunch of poops while running, does that count as “technical”? We encountered two large groups of riders, one which seemed to be a bunch of non-horsey folks on hired horses with a guide, and the other a very skilled bunch of riders with Western tack and beautiful horses, mostly fancy colored Western horses - one was the prettiest deep butterscotch shade of buckskin, two palominos, a couple paints and three different shades of roan, strawberry, bay roan, and blue! I grew up riding hunter/jumpers which are mostly plain colors, so it was fun to see them all. We stepped off the side of the trail for the skilled group, who were trotting, and the unskilled group, who were sort of walking mostly in a direction, pulled into a field while we ran past.
Despite the day being really beautiful my legs felt heavy and that “first mile is a lie” feeling never went away. Probably because the cat had something on his mind and kept waking me up all night. So we decided to take it easy, walk a lot, and just enjoy the fall colors. We also spotted a pair of woodpeckers, and what looked like a dodgeball with wings flew across the trail right in front of us. It was a wild turkey! I have seen them standing around but never seen one fly before.
Did 8 miles total, about 4 running miles.

Well, November is done here, well, my running for the month is. It was a quieter month mileage-wise thanks to having two half-marathons in there and the associated taper and recovery, but those races made it a pretty important month in terms of my running, especially with my much awaited PB. Tomorrow brings a new month, the official start of summer and my official start of the silly season - time to start decorating, baking, and singing Christmas songs. Can't wait.
Oh yeah, and I managed to run the year yesterday, and some. In kilometres though, because I'm not quite that crazy! Actually, edit that - I must have run the year sometime last month. There's an extra 200km in there I totally overlooked - it's only 2020, not 2220!

Congratulations on making your goal @Mari33a and @Kimbeers !
@Avidkeo That is odd, but good, that you didn't get call outs. I would have wondered if my phone was working or not. Yeah for your first HM training run! You've got this.
@rheddmobile Sounds like you had a nice day, even if the running part was harder than expected. Turkeys make a lot of noise when they fly, don't they? I love to watch experienced riders on horses. That was never something I did. Went on a ride for the first time a couple of years ago and, while it was fun, I wasn't confident and the horse knew it.
@ContraryMaryMary Congratulations on running the year! Awesome.

I ran 7 miles today🙂8

Did 3.2 mi yesterday.
Took it easy in an attempt to keep my heart rate down (successful)
Speed Demon was very excited to hit up one of our old spots.
Coach was happy that I was aware enough to notice his concern at my hr for the first run and adjust my effort accordingly.
The trail was stupid busy. Only 1 out of 8 groups of bikers announced themselves. Such a pet peeve.6 -
@mbaker566 Speed Demon is so happy. That looks like a great place to run. Glad you were successful in keeping your heart rate down.1
