I went to the parkway by the lake to run before going to mace class this morning. I can't usually do this mace class during the day but couldn't go last night and this is the last week of the series so I didn't want to miss out. Because the closer gym is closed it's almost a half hour drive to get to this gym, but it's only 8 minutes from the lake trail so I wanted to combine efforts and get the run in first. It was snowing but didn't seem too bad when I left my house. But the wind off the lake made it colder and on the return trip of my out and back, the sleet/snow was sideways and pelting me in the face, which was very unpleasant. The path is wide like a road and in the summer they have trolleys and now they have a "Lights on the Lake" drive through display in the evenings, so it's always maintained and the footing was very good.
I had to hustle up the run a little to make it to the gym in time to change and be ready for mace class. It was a tough one with a 30 minute AMRAP of 5 exercises that were 10 reps on each side (20 total each). I finished 8 rounds plus a little more in the 30 minute. Then we did a finisher of 5 minutes of swinging the mace in 360s around the body/head. Now that was a tiring workout. My quads are fried now.6 -

Morning all.
First, I feel like crying. Calf is niggly again today. I think it might be due to increased distance - I had no issues when doing 3k, yesterday was 5k. Actually when I think about it, I would get these niggles when I started running again and they would ease. Basically if I've been resting, the first couple of steps I take is a bit tight, achey, but quickly settles as I move around. It's not usually an issue the following day. I've also noticed that when I spend a lot of time on my feet, it aches a bit too. I spent a lot of time on my feet the last 2 days at work, and I've increased my distance from 3.25k to 5k. So it's probably just the scar tissue being pulled and stretched. If it's still sore tomorrow I'll skip my run, and run 5k on Saturday. Just watch and wait. Take it carefully.
This next bit is where I really miss @PastorVincent, but I know @Tramboman will like it, cake porn!!
The first one is a traditional full sugar fat, chocolate goodness. It's 4 layers of chocolate cake with Swiss meringue butter cream covered in chocolate ganache.
This one is a vegan GF chocolate cake that I've covered in chocolate coconut cream ganache. And is pure decadence
The occasion is my students last day tomorrow (I won't be there so am taking for morning tea today). After that they are full fledged radiographers. I did the two cakes cause there are several staff who are GF or Vegan or dairy intolerant, so this covers them all. Ita such an easy recipe and tastes so good.
I'll post cut pics later on.
Then tonight a group of us are going out for dinner to a local Japanese restaurant. Can't wait!

@Avidkeo wow, those look amazing. Hoping your calf will feel better. I know how excited you are to be back to training. Your plan to really ease into it sounds good. Slowly but surely!2 -

@mbaker566 Congratulations!
Great cakes, @Avidkeo ! Thank you for sharing
@noblsheep I'm with you on the mix of terrified and excited. Maybe you'll get some cool icicles on your eyelashes.
It's not that cold here yet, just right below freezing today with a dusting of snow on the ground from the weekend. I did my weekly long run, 26 km. It was pretty out, the sun even made an appearance towards the end, and I was dressed properly so I didn't get too cold. Light gloves, on and off as needed.
I've also been diagnosed with exercise induced asthma, but it's a really mild case. Oddly, the colder temperatures today were totally fine, BUT as soon as I stepped into the warm house, I felt like I was gasping for air. I actually stepped back outside and then stood in the doorway for a little bit, trying to make it a more gradual transition. And then after a few minutes I was fine again.
Also you might remember me mentioning the [closer] woods where my son kept going with his friend on their bikes, but every time they'd get just inside the woods, the friend would hear something, yell "boar", and they'd leave... well I do now see signs that a herd of wild boars has at least gone through the forest recently, rooting around in the leaves as they went along. I'm still convinced the kid got spooked by a bird or squirrel, though.4 -
All of you running in these below freezing temperatures are my heroes. I'm such a wimp.
Congratulations @skippygirlsmom ! Can't wait to hear about it!
Congratulations @mbaker566 ! I have faith that you can figure it all out.

I'm new to running and I'm learning a lot from those of you that are seasoned runners and those that are newbies like me. I downloaded the C25K app and I plan on starting this Saturday. Right now, I'm just trying to work on my stamina. I walked 35 minutes this morning and I will do the same again tomorrow and Friday.3

1 Dec Steps = 10,663 - Dad to VA and my CT scan
2 Dec Ran 2.5 miles Walked 1.0 mile
Like I said, I am a wimp when it comes to cold temperatures. So, I did my run on the treadmill today. The plan called for a 25 minute Foundation Run - basically running at warm up/cool down and easy paces. I did a little extra cool down, at a slightly slower pace, to get to a good stopping point and past 30 minutes. For some reason, a run less than 30 minutes doesn't feel like I've done enough. But, that was enough for today. I just wasn't feeling it and had to force myself to do what I did....and I did run/walk intervals. Just one of those days.
I got a call from the surgeon's nurse that the doctor wants me to come in to discuss my CT results. I have an appointment at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon. She had called an left a message on my cell phone while I was exercising, so didn't get to talk to her. I don't know if that means that it has grown or if he just wants to make sure we are on the same page as to what needs to be done when. Guess I'll have those answers tomorrow afternoon.7 -
@quilteryoyo praying for good news & answers tomorrow!2
