What nobody tells you about losing weight

Slightly off-topic here but how icky you feel after eating unhealthy take-out, especially in the amounts that you used to. For example, I can only eat half of my old "KFC order" and it makes my stomach feel absolutely horrible! I feel so bloated and get so gassy, I can't help but think, "How did I eat all that and still feel okay??"27

That when you get to your goal weight, you realise you're not done and set a new goal. And then get there, and realise you're still not done.
And for me at least - Repeat a few times before realising the goals need to be around lifting heavier, not weighing less26 -

I feel that way about food in general. Did I really used to sit down and eat three massive pancakes with syrup AND two eggs AND sausage AND two pieces of toast and a massive amount of fried potatoes? I remember doing it, but these days that amount of food would make me sick.13 -
- How much ENERGY you now have
- How you sleep MUCH better and sounder
- How easily it is to now admit to your wife, "Hey, it's kind of chilly!".
- How expensive it is to keep adjusting your wardrobe (I went from 315 lbs to 173 pounds)
- How expensive it is when you discover how well your clothes now fit and how good you look in them . . . and buy more. LOL!
- How difficult it is to accept gushing compliments from family and people that have known you in "bigger" days24 -
I have no clue how I would have handled these knee issues if I didn't have the weight off. I'm going through physical therapy right now for patellar instability (my kneecap likes to move out of place) and even the extra ten pounds I've gained has made the exercises a lot harder. I can't imagine what this would have been like had I had the other 60 on too!15

I have the opposite issue, lol. I can still eat tons of food if I don't consciously manage myself.19 -
Okay, this might be too much information. One of the things I love the most is how much easier it is to wipe your butt. Also, I worry less about smelling bad. The heavier I got, I felt like I smelled worse. Others told me I didn't stink, but I still worried about it.30

That might be TMI but I also found that true. Its like you have better "access"11

That your winter boots may start slouching and you have to pull them up multiple times a day!!11

You know, I really thought I was prepared for this one. I thought I would enjoy it longer, as I was constantly hot when I was overweight. But the cold is really as uncomfortable!12 -

I agree, I never realized just how BRUTAL the cold could be until I started losing weight. Fortunately, for me it's much more closely connected to how many calories I'm eating rather than my actual weight. When I overeat, I warm right up.9 -

I found that my goal weight shifted downwards, as I wasn't happy with my result... sadly, I didn't look quite the same at that weight as I had done ten years previously I should've started strength training earlier in the process, and in earnest
Well you won't. You're 10 years older now. I won't look like I did 10 years ago either. Losing weight doesn't make aging go away. But, saying that, better to be in shape NOW. The next best thing to doing it in the past is DOING IT TODAY.
I know... I meant that even at the same weight my body now carries fat differently (I.e. In my middle) so I needed to adjust my goal downwards.
Now if someone can just invent a way to make ageing go away... where's that divine miraculous secret when we need it? Or One Weird Tip?
I might recommend drinking lots of water. A hydrated body is a healthier body! While it won't stop the days, it's great for your skin. Good luck!7 -
Family members being mean about your weight loss 😞27

Ash, my daughter begged me for years to lose weight.
When I finally started a couple of years ago, she had just moved to the west coast, and I didn’t see her for several months. I was too embarrassed to tell her I was trying to lose weight. TBH, in case I failed.
By the time I saw her again, I was down about forty pounds. I thought she’d be as excited as I was to see her and show off my weight loss.
To my utter astonishment, she was very upset and came off as “mean”. It hurt my feelings sooooo bad.
It wasn’t til later I learned she thought I was ill and hiding it from her, and also, because I talked so much about eating carefully and was weighing everything, she was worried it would trigger an ED to return- one I never even knew she had. She hid it well.
Sometimes, there’s more going on than “mean”, and even though these are the ones closest to us, we simply don’t have a clue.

When you switch to maintenance you suddenly realize you have more calories to play with than you know what to do with...
Probably Christmas food will fix that16 -
Losing weight is so slow for me that I wonder if anyone notices. These days the only people who see me are coworkers. They all have weight challenges and we don’t talk about healthy eating. I notice my weight loss. My face is a little smaller and my clothes are looser. Losing weight even slowly is so worth it!
No one seemed to notice, or at least no one mentioned my weight loss until I reached 30 lbs lost, which is only 10lbs from my goal weight. Slow and steady is more likely to equate to life-long. So just keep on keepin' on17 -

Oh I wish that were true in my case. I only added about 110 calories when I switched to maintenance about 2.5 years ago. I was losing at a slow pace especially towards the end. That's just a little more than ONE of my little tiny pieces of my buttermilk cornbread or one whole wheat buttermilk biscuit.
Of course it's a POUND of raw broccoli, so there's that.
I still come up short on calories some days, but oh boy howdy do they balance against the days I go over; sometimes WAY over. Like 600 calories over yesterday. I enjoyed it.....

This will be me too. Slowing right down at the end means that maintenance won't look much different. However, we eat well and drink good wine so I really can't complain.8
