Congratulations @ContraryMaryMary
Hugs @quilteryoyo
Long run today, I was feeling various (perhaps imaginary) niggles and decided to keep it to HM distance. Then I baked Christmas cookies and put together a gingerbread house for the kids to decorate. Now I'm exhausted. Early bedtime

Ran trails yesterday on the far side of the Wolf River. My heel is almost normal. Trails are gravel but it’s shallow gravel over dirt and where it was dirt it could be really unexpectedly slick, we both ended up skating at times. I just really don’t like running in temperatures below 40, I wore my cold gear hoodie and was perfectly comfortable but grumpy the whole way. Didn’t feel like getting too muddy so we only ran about 3 miles, did 7ish total. We saw a whole bunch of deer and passed one actual human, the only one we saw all day. We have encountered him twice now, he’s an older man who walks. We greet each other and comment on the weather, he seems as surprised to see someone else out there as we are!6

I ran 4 miles this morning. It was really cold, but I was dressed well for it. My hip felt pretty good. I kept it slow and it turned out to be a good run. I'm ready for it to warm up a bit though. My hip feels a little cranky this afternoon. I'm noticing that it seems annoyed when I have been sitting for a long time, but feels better when I am moving around. But so far it isn't hurting while I am running or right afterwards. So I am going to keep playing it by ear. If it hurts while running I will definitely stop. And I am planning to keep my mileage low and just run slow and easy for a while.
Great race report and photos @ContraryMaryMary.
Hugs and prayers @quilteryoyo. I am sorry your dad is not doing well, but so glad you were able to spend some good time with him.

I received my @PastorVincent medal today. It was pleasant to receive as I'm home sick. Came over with a body aches, a runny nose and a headache. It developed about an hr into being at work, so I took myself home. I went and had a covid test but its not likely at all. Still fun experience....
I think its mostly cause I'm tired. So so tired. Managed 5.5k before I started feeling under it.11 -
I’m really far behind but I wanted to send hugest of hugs your way @quilteryoyo. I’m thinking of you and @eleanorhawkins. Wish I had some words to make you feel better but please know that you are in my thoughts and I’m sending love and strength your way.
Work has continued to be challenging due to various new Covid issues that I won’t bore anyone with. I’m ticking off miles when I can in the mornings on the treadmill but I’m not sleeping well and keep having dizzy spells so having to be quite cautious. It will be a push to reach even my revised target but I’m determined to hit that 800 miles for the year.
My school held a special event yesterday to celebrate all the kids reaching the (cumulative) marathon mark in our run a mile sessions. All the kids dressed in fancy dress (and me as a lion!) and we ran the last mile and got medals at the end. Super cute!
But best of all this week was getting my Pastor Vincent medal. Thank you thank you thank you. It came on a very bad day for me. And it made me cry happy tears. You guys are the absolute best.

Thanks for all the thoughts, folks.
What a year, I am really looking forward to seeing the end of it, even if next year isn't looking likely to get off to a much better start.
They may be lifting the restrictions a little here this weekend, so we're trying to see if we can find a campsite open somewhere nearby to try and spend Saturday night in the caravan we bought 2 months ago and have been revamping but not yet been able to sleep in. SO as this morning's run was feeling strangely ok, I went ahead and did today's and tomorrow's runs in one go this morning. I will rest tomorrow and (hopefully!) do my long run on Friday, then not run again until Monday. It will be the first time I haven't run 2 days in a row since I was sick in February, as far as I can remember. Just hope my legs don't hate me too much for doing 13k today and 19k on Friday. Better give them some TLC tonight just in case.
After deciding (tracker's been messing) that I have finished my run (and walk) the year thing now, I started looking at my stats on Garmin. If the runs I have left this year go as planned, I will finish the year with a running total of 1602km. Google tells me that is 995.4 miles. THAT is annoying. Wonder whether my legs would let me squeeze another 5 miles in...

Yes but 1000 miles is 1609 km.. that will probably drive you crazy too.3 -
@quilteryoyo I am so sorry.
@skippygirlsmom I had something similar happen to me in the grocery store this weekend. I all of a sudden got really hot and dizzy. I quickly checked out and sat in the car for 20 minutes with a Coke and crackers.
Nothing new here - I continue to be really busy with work. Staff leaving and an audit next month, so spending all of my time sorting that out. I don’t think I have run at all this month. I just don’t have the energy or motivation when I get home. Maybe this weekend.5 -

True. MY OCD and I are doooooomed0 -
5 indoor miles for me this morning. Almost getting used to running on the treadmill (almost)
4 -
last night, i did a progressive 5k. and i managed each mile to be faster than the last. which was easy for the first mile. i was trying to use Trail Toes on all the areas with chafing. lots of stops. lots of dropping of pants and applying. i think i have some chafing but i think some of it is behcets and the sores that occur.
speed demon didn't want to run so i did it inside .02mi at a time.
Charm got to join for a half mile before she took a nap but she is only 7lbs and a new tripod so i think that's excellent.
i also got to wear shorts and my socks had my RD's face on it. People ask who Brian is so they made socks with his face.
didn't sleep much so we'll see how fast of a mile we can do tonight after teaching to aerial yoga classes.when i asked her if she wanted to run, she avoided eye contact
charm was very sleepy after running with me for the first half mile.

Yesterday’s 12 Day of Christmas challenge was to run a progressive 5 mile run (@mbaker566 apparently got a 5K but I got 5 miles). I had a hair appointment in “town” so I ran in one of my favorite residential areas. There is an elementary school and lots of sidewalks available and a couple of the houses remind me of the Brady Bunch show. My mile splits were 13:04, 12:22, 12:06, 11:14 and 10:23. I had to keep an eye on my watch too much for my liking in order to make the times faster each mile.
Today’s challenge was to run 1200 feet of elevation gain or to run a personal best record for one mile. With all the streak running I’ve been doing lately and given the terrain in my neighborhood, I knew I didn’t have it in me to get a 1 mile PR. So, I set out to do hill repeats. I didn’t know how to see my elevation on my Garmin watch until I finished and saved the run. Sadly, I only got in 573 feet of elevation gain. At this time though I was back home and it was raining outside so I just couldn’t make myself go out for another hour plus of repeats. Fail for me today but on the plus side I ran that hill 4 times more than I normally would run it. It was cold (32F) and really windy but for a nice change I was running into the wind on the downhills and it was at my back on the uphills.
@Faebert – Sorry for your challenges at work. Way to go for hanging in there and hitting that treadmill hard every morning. So cool that the kids finished their marathon and got medals. Glad you had some happy tears when you received your medal!
Hope you get some rest and feel better soon @Avidkeo
Who knew kale got that bit @polskagirl01! What a sight!
Hope you can get away for a much needed weekend @eleanorhawkins.
Glad Skippy was with you @skippygirlsmom and the episode was resolved with some food.

Today was my 365th day in a row of running! I started the streak, unintentionally, on Dec 18 last year (leap year so there are actually 366 days but whatever, I'm celebrating a traditional year). I didn't plan on doing a whole year and didn't commit to it out loud for quite a while - maybe into February or so. But then I was just doing it and couldn't stop. Now just 15 more days to continue the streak for all of 2020. I will not be continuing after that as I'm really looking forward to going back to a day off. And NOT running during any more 15 hour hikes.
Today's run was a lot of fun. A few friends met up at the "Lights on the Lake" display before it opens for cars to drive through so we could run under the lights. We started at 4 and were told by a park employee that we'd probably be told by the rangers we had to get out at 4:30 when they start letting cars through (we thought they started at 5, so we were a bit disappointed). But there is a walking path to the side of the driving route so we were able to stay out a little longer and not get yelled at. It was so beautiful to see all the lights. I've seen it many times in the day but rarely all lit up at night - I've never paid to drive through.
It was pretty cold and windy, about 22 F I think, so we were pretty chilled when we finished. But we had some hot chocolate at the cars and a little homemade salted caramel vodka. Which, I did not know you could MAKE that and now my life is changed. So good. A very fun evening. A few pics under spoilers
I had a whole post typed out with responses and lost it - sorry everyone. Lots of likes and hugs above. I don't know if anyone has heard an update from @quilteryoyo but she and her family continue to be in my heart.11 -
Congratulations for 365 days on the run @katharmonic! When looking back on 2020, you have something positive to remember! Love the Christmas lights and everyone's holiday dress but it looks so cold with that snow on the ground!4

17.97 / 30 miles for December
Yesterday's run was a total flop, ended up giving up after 20 mins. Went too fast as I thought I'd change my route and running time. Had something to prove to myself today so I went back to my usual and achieved a further 5 mins plus 0.5km extra. My 30 mile target doesn't seem so unachievable anymore.

The 30 mile distance target (as well as a faster pace target) should probably be at a lower priority than building up your distance in a healthy way... and you seem to be doing great at that. Keep up the good work!4 -
