Less Alcohol - DECEMBER 2020 - One Day At A Time

@mainelylisa my eyes zoomed directly to the hunk of cheese you have there in there in picture background. Yum.
@dawnbgethealthy we use our standard charcoal grill instead of a smoker then just follow the recipes. The techniques can be found in Weber books or even online.
I was good at Christmas! Had wine with dinner but moderate amount and poured a lot of it into a shrimp dish where it better belonged. For "dessert", got the Baileys but had only 1 oz and also the Hennessy mini and had 1 oz of that, the rest given to DH. Just wanted the "taste".
APPLAUSE to @MissMay and anyone else completing the Turkey to Christmas AF streak!!!

Hi! I am going to join in again. I have had an 8 lb weight creep since the pandemic started. By eliminating my 1-2 vodka/soda each day I can eliminate about a pound per month. I don't know that I plan to completely abstain, but would like drinking to become the exception rather than norm.
12/25 AF
12/26 going out for dinner...Plan AF6 -
2 glasses of wine + water with pizza this evening.
Dec accountability: Still 9/26 days AF4 -
Went out to dinner and drank lots of water.
12/25 AF
12/26 AF5 -
New home for the thread, but the same goals for me, 16-20 AF days per month.
Wednesday December 16 - AF
Thursday December 17 - AF - Felt like drinks, but wanted to get my 2AF in a row.
Friday December 18 - AF - Planned drinks tomorrow.
Saturday December 19 - Drinks
Sunday December 20 - AF - Planning AF tomorrow too.
Monday December 21 - AF - Shortest daylight of the year. We got a dump of snow, but it was warm this afternoon so it turned into sleet making piles of wet slush. The skating lakes will be a mess, but hopefully as it cools down again there will be enough of a base for X-Country skiing this week.
Tuesday December 22 - AF - Very long work day, I didn't get home until 9:30pm so was too tired to even have drinks. Anyway, saving up my calories and probably alcohol drinks until Christmas Eve
Wednesday December 23 - Drinks. I didn't make it until Christmas Eve. I did the 6 minute thing twice, but kind of half-halfheartedly. I am sure that I will get some more AF days in before the end of the month. Not putting pressure on myself over the next few days.
Thursday December 24 - AF - Cross Country skiied today for the first time in 2 years (I had a broken ski last year and got new to me skis once the season was over last year). I decided not to have drinks because I want to feel 100% tomorrow for Christmas Day skating and then Christmas dinner and drinks
Friday December 25 - 2 drinks before dinner and then water during and after. Fabulous Christmas Day, went up to Kimberley for a skate at the arena, then had a little visit with my guitar player who lives up there, and then back to Cranbrook to my friend's place for Christmas dinner that she cooked.
Saturday December 26 - Drinks. Spent a great afternoon shoveling off a local outdoor rink. Beautiful blue skies and sunny.
Rolling total: 17AF days out of 26 days4 -
@Lilylady3k
We can get Andouille here. I love it. I use it to make my Beet Borscht when I harvest my garden in the late fall. Scrumptious.2 -

Great to see you again @fitand50inSD those sneaky drink calories that creep up on us like the Grinch. Lol. You have a good plan set into motion. Let's do this!
I was AF last night too, even after sitting at a bar(the only bar open in town) for an hour waiting for friends to show up. Cranberry in a stem glass with a twist 🍹
Habits can be curbed or broken.
ME- sitting in a bar for an hour plus without an alcoholic drink in front of me. Why? Because I told myself "we" don't need alcohol again tonight.

@dawnbgethealthy - You hit your 16 AF days this month! Congrats!!!
What a great way to spend time and move those muscles. I imagine you burned a bunch of calories.
Great that you have Andouille! Never thought about that with beets.

Today I go for a nice trail run with DH and the bunnies in the forest. I plan to eat clean and limit drinks to 2. I also plan on closing the kitchen early and moving into the living room where our new house rule is that no eating or drinking is allowed in that room. Need to get back into good habits....
Time to go make it a great day.....4 -
Headed to our fishing camp ... taking my mom back home.
WIN: DH decided not to take our 7 bottles of wine with us which will naturally decrease the alcohol intake this week. Closest store is 20 miles one way. Also did not bring extra bourbon ... what we have is what we have.
DD and her husband are joining us a for a few days ... they may bring something.5 -
You women are doing so well with your less drinking goals, exercise routines and "closing the kitchen" .
I popped up and worked out too by myself. As I said my weighted workout program came to an end. They recommend having a week of some other type of exercise (other than weights) if you want to do another round. It is called muscle confusion.
I did an 8 minute ab workout and then did a 7 minute buns workout. My butt is on fire from doing that one. Good 'cause I can always use a lift in that area. Remember back in the old days, there was a workout for the thighs. It was called Thin Thighs in 30 Days. By now with technology I wish there were a new one called Thin Thighs in 3 SECONDS.
Getting excited and gearing up for our January Less Alcohol thread which I will create and give the link to follow later this week.
*A NEW YEAR
*A NEW PERSONAL OUTLOOK

Saturday December 26 - Drinks. Spent a great afternoon shoveling off a local outdoor rink. Beautiful blue skies and sunny.
Sunday December 27 - Drinks. I resisted for a few 6 minute intervals, then I had an Espresso "Bailey's" with Grand Marnier. I had also forgotten about my Benedictine (yes, I have lots of of booze in my house). I have a very small bottle of Benedictine that I have had for many years, I only drink it around this time of year. I had one, it was lovely, I heated the snifter first. Planning on AF tomorrow, and I have a Piccolo of Champagne in the fridge for NYE (although I rarely make it past 10pm lol)
Rolling total: 17AF days out of 27 days5 -
2 bourbon & diet cokes for me this evening.
@dawnbgethealthy - Absolutely love Benedictine and the warm snifter is perfect for the experience. I don't make it past 10pm either on NYE! Gave up many years ago ... pop the poppers at 10 if I last that long.5 -
Feeling a bit under the weather today. The South Dakota grayness isn't helping. Leaving for Arizona for the rest of the winter tomorrow. I can't wait to get back to the sunshine (been back in SD for 3 gray weeks!)
12/25 AF
12/26 AF
12/27 AF
Thanks for giving me a space to hold myself accountable.

Good bye holiday gift cookie platters, high calorie leftovers, eggnog and short daylight hours.
HELLO fresh spinach salads, more water intake, creative art ideas and new workout routines.
Sending POSITIVE energy on this last Monday of 2020.

I AGREE more sunshine less grayness.3 -
Yes the weather is lovely in AZ now and will be through May. But no snow in the high country yet, that's what I am waiting for!
Ok so today is the day I set up my new wifi scale. I figured why wait until Jan 1 to start improving?

Monday December 28 - AF - Taking it easy today, watching "Rebel without a Cause"
Rolling total: 18AF days out of 28 days4 -
Mom's Monday Night Poker Ladies offered mango daiquiris but I passed. Played spades with DH, DD & her husband ... they were drinking bourbon & cokes and margaritas. I passed on those too. Stuck with my water for the evening.
AF ... WHEW! Almost 12 AF days for the month. I might slide in under the wire.
Dec accountability: 11/28 days AF
Goal: AF days 3 per week / 12 per month; limit 1-2 glasses per day6 -
Flight to Arizona is delayed 2 hours. We won't be leaving SD until 11:00 pm tonight and getting to AZ at 1:20 am (2:20 am SD time). Fortunately we fly into the Mesa airport and are generally in our house within 30 minutes of stepping off the plane. I will have been up for about 22 hours by the time I get to bed. Pretty sure there will be 1 or 2 drinks on the plane!
12/25 AF
12/26 AF
12/27 AF
12/28 likely 1-2 drinks

Only 3 days left to this crazy year!!! So I splurged yesterday on sake. Like 3 glasses. I originally bought it with the intent to have it on hand for cooking but I poured it into my evening cranberry juice and boy was it delicious. So I had another. Then another. Bad move.
WARNING: don't be tempted to try this at home. Each glass with cranberry will cost you 200 calories! UGH.5 -
@globalhiker I have never had sake. What is it like(not that I am running out to buy any) just curious.
Yup, let the count down begin.4 -
Holidays hit and I lost count with drinks because my pals and family wanted holiday cheer every day.
Have to start again..back in6 -
Made it to AZ at 2 in the morning. Had 2 airplane size bottles of Titos. Planning to wrack up some more AF days in a row now. 2 drinks in 5 days is much better than 10 drinks in 5 days! Thanks for supporting me!
12/25 AF
12/26 AF
12/27 AF
12/28 2 airplane bottles of Titos
12/29 AF5 -
Stressful day dealing with mom's financials as well as things that she ordered online ... think electronic watch that well is a knockoff of an apple watch and I'm not sure if there are reoccurring charges. She wanted me to figure out how to set it up so she could use it (no instructions, made in China, she doesn't remember where she bought it on line or how). Financials ... she has a credit card that she wasn't sure how it was paid ... turns out it was on auto payment from one of the many checking accts I'm trying to close (no the credit card was not from that bank). Finances are still messy but I was able to reduce her car insurance removing her husband that passed as well as the car she recently sold. And I found credit card points that added up to cash back of $280. So not all bad. Then we sorted 7 tubs of gift wrap paper to keep/give away/trash and started taking down Christmas. Oh all this after fishing when we returned and the electricity was off for 5 hours.
DH & DSIL went into town for gas for the boat and came back with alcohol. Stress and lack of willpower .. gave in and accepted the bourbon & diet coke offered and then had 2 glasses of wine with dinner. Mom had a beer like I said stressful.
I messed up on my counts somewhere so went back this morning ... 10/29 AF days. Don't think I'm going to hit the 12 even though there are 2 more days this month.6 -
@MissMay, sake is a strong rice wine and it feels "thicker" in consistency compared to regular wine yet it's crystal clear in color. So I guess it is it's texture that I am drawn to and perhaps it's look and feel of purity.
It really to me is almost flavorless but I used to drink Hakutsuru sake cold with a squirt of lime juice when I used to go out for sushi. Now sake is on my once-a-year list, no more.
2 days left. Since Christmas I have been drinking 2-3 drinks daily and already see pudge rolls collecting in my midsection. It does not take long!
That said, today is a good day to be AF and be kind to myself.

Ugh........ I had a friend stop by to pickup a few books for her husband I was getting rid of. She hands me a giant plate covered in foil. My mind goes to the thought it could be her delicious eggplant casserole, and that it what I am hoping it is.
I take the foil off and she screams I have to get this cheesecake out of my house I cant stop eating it.
SO YOU WANT ME TO EAT ALL YOUR CALORIES? I screamed back. We both started laughing hysterically, (we are close and can joke like that)
So I showed her a trick. You take the giant plate of nicely cut cheesecake and slip it into the freezer, my deep freezer is up in my garage which is even better. Now it is OUT of your sight. You wont keep picking at the dish. When you want a planned treat after dinner take a few out to defrost while cooking dinner.
Great idea she says. Looking at my freezer. "Nope, you cant be an Indian giver I'm keeping these" Another burst of laughter from us both..
Just like booze, food also has to be controled and accounted for. Just like booze, I want to cut back on some foods, yet have the opportunity to enjoy them in small amounts.
Everything in moderation.5
