Holidays hit and I lost count with drinks because my pals and family wanted holiday cheer every day.
Have to start again..back in
Welcome back @CMB44512 glad to see your back in. Is your cupboard beer stash still up there? Curious to see if inw of your friends found it. Day one...one day at a time.4 -

12/26 AF
12/27 AF

12/29 AF
Oh I wish I were in Arizona this time of year. You calculations are on point. 2 is much better than 10. You dont need to be a mathematician to see that. NICE WORK. Enjoy that warmer weather.4 -
Lilylady3k wrote: »Stressful day dealing with mom's financials as well as things that she ordered online ... think electronic watch that well is a knockoff of an apple watch and I'm not sure if there are reoccurring charges. She wanted me to figure out how to set it up so she could use it (no instructions, made in China, she doesn't remember where she bought it on line or how). Financials ... she has a credit card that she wasn't sure how it was paid ... turns out it was on auto payment from one of the many checking accts I'm trying to close (no the credit card was not from that bank). Finances are still messy but I was able to reduce her car insurance removing her husband that passed as well as the car she recently sold. And I found credit card points that added up to cash back of $280. So not all bad. Then we sorted 7 tubs of gift wrap paper to keep/give away/trash and started taking down Christmas. Oh all this after fishing when we returned and the electricity was off for 5 hours.
DH & DSIL went into town for gas for the boat and came back with alcohol. Stress and lack of willpower .. gave in and accepted the bourbon & diet coke offered and then had 2 glasses of wine with dinner. Mom had a beer like I said stressful.
I messed up on my counts somewhere so went back this morning ... 10/29 AF days. Don't think I'm going to hit the 12 even though there are 2 more days this month.
Not an easy task having to do the financials and try to put the puzzle pieces where they belong. Your a wonderful Daughter for doing all that with your Mom.
Btw what kind of fish are you catching out at camp?
Get back on your goal tracking when you feel up to it. Power outages always stress me out to

2020 I have something to say to you:
You had me crawl under a rock and start to slide backwards in March and April. I was not impressed with my actions and how my less drinking goals got sabotaged.
You thought you had me, but I proved you WRONG in May-December. I want to re-live these upcoming 2021 months of March and April like they should have been this past year.
Buckle up!

New home for the thread, but the same goals for me, 16-20 AF days per month.
Monday December 28 - AF - Taking it easy today, watching "Rebel without a Cause"
Tuesday December 29 - Drinks. Not planned. I got some sad news. Alcohol for sure isn't a cure. I gave a "cheers" to a friend just across the border that I could not be with at the end.
Rolling total: 18AF days out of 29 days6 -

Dawn many heartfelt hugs to you on the loss of your friend. ❤5 -
@dawnbgethealthy I'm so sorry, too, for losing your friend and not being able to be there. Hugs...
I'm hanging in. Literally wore 5 layers yesterday to walk the dog and was freezing. Do not want to go out unless there is snow to play in. Would love to console myself with food and wine. BIG alcohol cravings recently. Have been good except for 2 Lindt balls last night in bed (damn edible cravings!) I think I'm going to go for a dry January. Until I step away from alcohol, I'll never know if I can come back and moderate. This time I'm doing it in conjunction with therapy so we shall see.
Gonna be kind to myself and not beat me up if Jan/Feb are low exercise months and you shouldn't either. Not going to a germ infested gym and not going to below 20 degrees outside. I will not do it, even if I can. I will not do it Sam I Am.
@MissMay Did you / should we consider making this thread year-long so you don't have to keep creating new threads? If not, no worries. Not sure which way might be more visible to newbies.4 -
@MissMay - We caught a number of 20-24" redfish and 20" speckled trout on Monday & Tuesday. Today we caught zip.4
-
@Lilylady3k that is some good fishing. Never caught a red fish. I used to be a big time fisher-woman with my late husband. Nothing better than having tandem bluefish on our lines when they were running up this way. Have fun.
@mainelylisa I wish you much success with your new therapist. No worries if you can not moderate. What ever is best for YOUR inner peace is how I feel.
I applaude you for coming in here even though you mentioned a few times that us talking about what we had to drink would almost trigger you to want to have something.
Also I am keeping it a monthly thread. For several reasons.
When the folks wanting complete personal abstinence from alcohol broke away from here they started their own thread and it is an on going non stop thread. I do not want to copy that.
Another reason is I moved this thread into the motivation and support category recently because I feel we are NOT a challenge , we are a life style change.
Plus what would I do all Winter if it were a boring continuing thread? I wouldn't be needed any longer 🤣8 -
mainelylisa wrote: »Have been good except for 2 Lindt balls last night in bed
Well, better than 2 Lint Balls.7 -
Thank you all for your condolences about my friend in Idaho. Luckily they let the immediate family into the hospital to be with him as he passed. Some hospitals do not allow visitors even at end of life. He did not have Covid.6

Wednesday December 30 - AF - Woke up with a messed up knee this morning, so I didn't skate or X-Country Ski after work today. Planning on champagne tomorrow night.

Backed off to the 5 beers out of my six pk. Added one to the shelf.
I need a new goal plan for the newyear. Not sure what it will be yet.
I like the monthly thread idea @MissMay over the continued on going threads with thousands of hits. It shows that the monthly threads are current & fresh. Man's point of view.7 -
1 bourbon & diet coke.
Dec accountability: 10/30 days AF5 -
Got in a good day's work, went for a desert hike, made a new dish for dinner, sipping my 3rd Cranberry Diet 5 and San Pellegrino. Another AF day.

I almost spit out my coffee! Thank you, Dawn. I needed that.
@MissMay You will ALWAYS be needed. Totally makes sense to keep monthly.
I'm not sure what my drinking or not drinking will be in 2021. Therapist is encouraging at least a several month break while I work on stuff and get receptors settled down, but I told her I'd like to eventually learn to moderate.
I had a talk with my attitude last night and I'm just going to have to put on more pants and get my *kitten* out the door. So 2 long underwear tops, sweatshirt, jacket, one pair pants, hat, mittens, scarf is going to need another pair of pants to be complete. And keep me from being top heavy. If only we were all closer so we could walk, hike, ski, skate together!

Despicable. Two of the most addictive substances on the planet. Any doubt Alcohol and Sugar Lobbies are in bed with the awesome U.S. government?

@MissMay - I prefer the monthly thread over an annual.
Fresh thread and a new opportunity to strive to post positive results. The longer annual ones seem to either die off from lack of visibility for newbies or they get so long and cumbersome.
But the single thread would probably help those that stop posting refind the post under their favorites when they are ready to return.
I'm planning to stick with ya'll one way or another!

Guys, it was a hell of a TOUGH year and we made it. Not only that, I know I drank way less in 2020 compared to 2019, that is for sure. Many of you did too. Perseverance pays off.
We will make 2021 even better. Time to kick butt....
@dawnbgethealthy I feel sad for your loss and give you a long distance HUG....
@mainelylisa I am considering getting a good quality exercise bike (nothing crazy expensive or complicated) to have in front of the TV for those days when it's just too cold to run outside. No subscriptions, nothing trendy, just watch youtube exercise videos or travel videos while riding. This way I get my cardio in and I give my running legs a break. There was a serious windchill here yesterday and I need a backup plan.
Oh and I like the monthly set up we have, seems to re-motivate and jump-start me at the start of every month.6 -
OMG.... I am a bottle and label FREAK. There could be nasty swamp water in a pretty bottle and I would want it. Check out this company that makes these non alcoholic spirits gang.

Yes, Miss May! I am an Ohioan and German too!! So this dish is right up my German alley. Best wishes for a wonderful new year. You make the world so much better with this thread and your dedication. xo4 -
December is ending with less alcohol goals achieved. Thanks to that in between the holiday alcohol break that was started by @globalhiker. 👍👍
Tonight I will pop open "1" little single serve prosecco. Pour it into my most festive long stemmed glass and sip (not slurp) it.
No preloading
No sneaking in nips
No stealing sips out of my DH's glass
No wondering if those flashing lights are for me to pull over
No wondering where my one high heeled shoe got lost
No hang over
No messy next day clean ups.
😉7 -
Love it, @MissMay It's weird because I see you as so responsible and those bullets are things MOI would do. Though I'd be wondering if why those flashing lights are coming from the vehicle I'm in the backseat of.
Maybe split a Prosecco with DH tonight, along with some chocolate. If only I could remember which drawer of which house I hid the Peanut M&M's in. Our last hurrah for a while to sweets for him and wine for me.5 -
@MissMay I am only one-quarter German but would appreciate your recipe! I love caraway flavor.
Happy New Year everyone! I plan to indulge but put myself to bed early before too much damage is done5 -

Lisa those bullets could have gone on for another long list to write. It took years to have my devil horns wear off and grow some wings. And thank you, I appreciate being seen as responilble....now. 'bout f'n time, huh? 🤣
BTW happy 2 year anniversary my friend. 2 years ago NYE 2018 ~ WOOT WOOT 🎉5 -
@globalhiker super simple:
Crockpot on low for 8 hours-
5# fresh pork butt (sear the outside first)
1 pound sauerkraut/ drained
1 bottle Guinness beer
Potatoes cut into quarters(I leave the skins on)
1 package Hillshire Kielbasa (leave whole it will break apart naturally)
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
I start out layering kraut, caraway seeds and beer.
Place fresh pork in center
Add quartered potatoes against sides.
Place kielbasa on top of pork
Cover
Half way through check potatoes, if they get done early pull them out and place aside. You can at the same time flip the pork butt. Return cover and continue cooking.
Enjoy!6
