@skippygirlsmom Here’s to not falling (all the way) off a cliff! Hoping your injury turns out as well as possible and heals quickly. At least you got a good story and pictures out of it.
My husband and I got in 5 running and 3 hiking miles on the far side of the Wolf today. Turns out the well-groomed gravel trails become quite a bit more technical when you add a bunch of rain and a holiday weekend with horseback riders churning the trails into mud. Had to cross several creeks which are usually dry. And then apparently park service decided to fix some of the low places by dumping sand - like, half a mile of gravel is now deep sand. So we are trotting along as usual, and then, hey! What is this? This wasn’t a beach three days ago! It was an unexpected leg workout!
Other than that, a beautiful day. We saw a bunch of quail.
Yes mud. Also unexplained large rocks! I guess the park service are worried the trails will get washed out. This wasn’t like this last week either!9 -
@skippygirlsmom I am so glad that you were able to grab the branches to keep the fall from being worse. I wish you the best as you recover. I’m glad the trail was busy and there were a lot of people to stop to help.
Work was long and busy today. I was so sleepy when I got home, so I grabbed the dogs and went for a walk to try to perk up. 2.4 miles.
I’m still sleepy.6 -
January Goal: Hike/Run the "A's" *
1/1: 3.39 Afghanistan, Albania
1/2: 2.41 Algeria, Andorra
1/3: 2.05 Angola...some videos are more interesting than others....
Total: 7.85
@quilteryoyo: No, my treadmill is old and decrepit (like me). I can do 3.3mph. Or 4. Or 5.5, but not 4.3 or 5.6. And tho I push the incline button...nothing seems to happen. If I don't "see" you before surgery, I hope it is unexciting! (it is NOT good to be interesting to a doctor...)
*So, my New Years resolution is to hike all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

@skippygirlsmom Wow. You have my eternal awe and respect for how you handled that situation. Just glad it wasn't much worse, and wishing you a speedy recovery!
(And now you've got one heck of a story to tell the grandkids.)2 -
Back from my 3k run. Short and sweet. Listening to my favourite podcasts - @runs_on_espresso has one that's a great listen for beginners (shameless plug lol)
I much prefer listening to podcasts than music now. Music would affect my pace too much, but podcasts dont. What are some of your favourite podcasts? I listen to a variety, Radio vs the Martians (pop culture), the running world podcast, brain food, case file (true crime) lol
Look up Dirt Church Radio.1 -

Oh cool! Will give them a listen, thanks!0 -
OMG @skippygirlsmom, that’s a very dramatic way to start the year/end a hike! Sorry to hear your ankle’s toast, happy to hear you’re still alive. Sending healing vibes.2

So far so good for RED January
1/1 - 3.6
2/1 - 2.3
3/1 - 2.2
Still no idea on my goals for 2021, other than to beat the 1207.1 miles I ran this year.
I'm in the ballot for London, and said I would do Yorkshire Marathon again (October), and have a HM (May) and 10k (July) from last year already signed up for - if they happen... who know!
I'd like to work on my HM a month streak as well, which I got to 6 months last year. thanks @polska_girl for that one

@rheddmobile Sounds like an interesting run/walk. Nice picture.
@HonuNui Hahaha on the video comment. I plan to "see" you until Thursday evening. Friday is the big day. I too hope it is uninteresting. I like my treadmill, but it is getting old too. It has programs that will automatically change the incline and some the speed also. I normally use the incline changes, but control my own speed. And, sometimes will decrease the incline if it feels too much. I like the control it gives. But, it is starting to act up - showing my HR when I'm not touching the handles, so that I can't see what else it is doing. It goes back to the regular screen when I change the incline. Weird.

since we had snow, i had to shovel instead of run. but i did get one in yesterday. it wasn't quite what coach had planned but i did the gist of it. it was supposed to be 2 sustained 20 min runs with a 5 min walk between, but due to ice and uncleared sidewalks, it was more of a fartlek run. it was a beautiful day for a run.
in nonrunning news, my little tripod foster was adopted by a great family and i now have 6 year old doodle. she likes to snuggle. not a huge fan of wisconsin weather. dog friendly.11 -
I typed a post this morning saying yikes @skippygirlsmom and a few other things which I can't remember now.
Ran 10k this morning. Should have been 5, but there's a big storm due to hit here Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and my legs felt ok so I decided to do Thursday's miles today along with today's, and I will try to do Wednesday's 8k tomorrow. There's rain forecast for Saturday's long run but not as heavy.7 -
1-1 5k treadmill + resistance bands
1-2 5k treadmill + yoga
1-3 6k easy
1-4 7k slow + resistance bands
January Total: 23k
January Goal: 140k
Cloudy, mid 30s F, and no wind. Still a little short on energy, but managed to struggle through.
@mbaker566 That's some pretty snow.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)6 -
What's a podcast?????
I can't tell if you're joking or not...
Think of a radio talk show or an old-timey radio drama. Pretty much any topic you can think of.
@avidkeo One other one. Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. It's a classic interview format but they are usually pretty funny and the length varies quite a bit depending on the guest so it's easy to find one the right length for your run.5 -
Well it sounds like we need a running tally of our injured/reserve already. YIKES!
I am totally amazed that I did not hurt myself running the first few days of the year. LOL. 11 was a HUGE stretch for me which never in my wildest dreams did I think I could do without bad things happening. But extremely blessed to report that 3 days post long run I was really able to gizelle my 10K this morning. It's rough getting up earlier and running in the dark again but perhaps I go faster thinking of bears? I have pepper spray but lately I have been thinking of keeping my taser handy. It's just too heavy so maybe there are more lightweight versions around. It's mostly because homeowners are REALLY bad about their dogs and some appear pretty aggressive to me. The worst ones are the ones who let them out in their front yard to pee with no supervision (ok rant over)
Goal for Jan 165. Stretch goal 172 which would put my on RTY pace in runs. Complete 30.47 so far.

@skippysmom Oh my god. What an experience. So so glad you made it through that. Much hugs to you!
loving all the pics.
Ran 7.33 miles today on the treadmill. FYI for those interested - Peloton is offering 2 months free on their app until 1/31. Even if you don't use it for the treadmill, they have TONS of content for other activities - yoga, stretch, strength, meditation, cycling, bootcamps, its endless. They also have outdoor runs...which I have used and I think are great. Doesn't hurt to try for a couple months!

Well, with my fly rod I can make a roll cast, a false cast, and a sidearm cast.
Kidding about the podcast. It's something that young people listen to.3 -
January Goal – 100 miles
1/1 – 3.1 (New Year’s Wake Up and Run 5k)
1/2 – 10.07
1/3 – rest + yoga
1/4 – 5.12
Uneventful 5 am run today. Partly cloudy and around 30F. I’ve rotated back to working in the office for the next two weeks and since I don’t have time to drive back home to get ready for work and then back to the city and our on-site gyms at work are closed, I have to go to Planet Fitness to shower. Between my gym bag and clothes, computer bag and work papers, lunch and breakfast, one might think I’m running away from home.

January Goal - 60 miles
1/3 - 1.55 miles
1/4 - 2.08 miles
I've learned that I run better when I don't have to drag my dog along. I'm hoping to push for 2.5 miles from now on.8 -
Be back later but on the subject of podcasts, I like to listen to ones that make me laugh while I run:
Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend
Literally! with Rob Lowe
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
Ask Me Another3 -
... I kind of varied my usual route and when I got to the turn for home I realized I would be at 8.75 miles (I was planning 8) so naturally I had to go an extra block to get to an even 9. Although my hip felt a little tight after the run so I hope I didn't over do it. But tomorrow will be a rest day and the hip feels ok now. It doesn't really hurt and not exactly in the same spot as before so I think it is probably a combination of paranoia and my shoes have over 400 miles on them.
2021 Races: I need to sign up for some races! 😁
OMG I can't get but 200 miles out of my shoes before they lose padding and I start getting a shin splint. 400 is awesome. Hope your hip is better today and I totally am the same way about having to go the extra to make it even.... ROTFLOL2 -
@mbaker566 That's a lot of snow. I had forgotten you live in WI. I have cousins there. Glad your tripod foster was adopted and hope the new one gets a good home soon.
Great running @eleanorhawkins ! Love the way you are getting it all in even with bad weather.
You are doing great @SummerSkier !
@hamsterwheel6 You're doing great too. The free Peloton sounds great, if I were going to be able to exercise for 2 months. Maybe they'll do the same thing next year and I'll be healthy enough to try it.
@Teresa502 I'm in awe that you run at 5. It's so hard for me to get up and out early.
@MiriS75 Sounds like you are doing great. Most people are slower with their dogs in tow.

Had a busy day. Got all of my pre-op stuff done again today. The test results that are already up on-line look good, so, if nothing else comes up, the surgery should be a go on Friday. Soon after I got home, the repairmen came to work on my built in microwave. They spent 1.5 hours running tests and trying to figure out what was wrong. It's a capacitor and magnetron. Parts won't be here for about 3 weeks. In the meantime, I purchased a cheap, small one that I can use after my surgery so I don't have to cook a lot if I don't feel like it.10

@teresa502 good job on your 5 am run. I hate dragging all that stuff to work too. I haven't gotten back to showering at the gym since it opened back up so I have to go home in between every time. It takes a lot more time but I don't have to pack along so much. It won't work in my schedule long term but for now I'm dealing with it.
@kirstymn I just hate when Garmin tells me I'm "unproductive". I ran! How is that not productive? They should use a different word.
@quilteryoyo glad your test results look good and everything is looking positive for Friday. Sorry about your microwave but I'm glad you have a replacement to tide you over, especially for ease while you are recovering.
@mbaker566 your new foster doodle is so cute!
@SummerSkier nice job on your 10k, glad it felt so good a few days after your long run. Sounds like you are going to nail your goals.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
01/01/21 :::: 0.0 :::: 0.0
01/02/21 :::: 0.0 :::: 0.0
01/03/21 :::: 3.3 :::: 3.3
01/04/21 :::: 3.4 :::: 6.7
I ran 2.22 miles on slushy trails with Stella, and I can confirm @MiriS75 that I am significantly slower with the dog. All the stopping and starting is a challenge and she does not really enjoy running with me (she certainly CAN run, she just prefers to be more of a wanderer). Then I went to the gym and did another 1.2 miles on the treadmill as a warmup before strength training.7 -

I used to listen to him, loved his episodes with Kristen Bell - so sweet as a married couple. But I listened to one with Sarah silverman and he kept going on and on and on about how hot she was. It turned me off him. Even Sarah seemed to get a bit uncomfortable with it. I could just picture Kristen in the background, face palmed, shaking her head.0 -
@quilteryoyo Thank you! They usually offer 2 weeks free trial all the time. You could get it as late as Jan 31 and get 2 months from that day. Maybe the yoga and meditation could help you after surgery.
Thinking of you and prayers and hugs for Friday.3
