I’m doing this also I suppose. Sine I haven’t had any alcohol in years (don’t like the taste) maybe I don’t count.2

No, it's supposed to be a *challenge*, and since it's no challenge for you (or me) our abstinence does not count2 -

Yum!!! That calls for a nice bold red. Oh wait. This dry January has more pitfalls than I thought.😊
Lemon water?2 -
i find myself wanting to snack more since I'm not drinking, so not sure that's going to help with weight loss...3

That's interesting, I usually find the opposite!
I am not 100% because I only started on the 2nd, not the 1st, but so far sticking with it. How is everyone else doing?0 -

Yesterday was the toughest day, for me, so far because I had so much going on during the day.I would have, normally, had a few glasses of wine since I stayed up late watching the news. I think it'll probably get easier after the first week.
After watching the news today I'm really going to struggle ... 😳

Yes, I think I've reached my limit over these past two days, haha...
Was hoping 2021 would bake better. Yesterday 2021told 2020 to 'hold my beer and watch this:5 -
I'm on the headache part of withdrawls right now...ughhh. I started on Sunday so 4 days dry, today is day 5...so by tomorrow i'll actually feel the healthy part of this? Right????3

Last night was a test but I'm hanging in there. Between the news and some bad news for a very good friend last night I really wanted a glass of wine but put some Sunwink in a pretty wine glass and had one dark chocolate truffle.5

Well...I made it 5 days. Broke down yesterday. We had protests yesterday in our state capitol with lots of gun toaters...Capitol building was closed as well as the Supreme Court...I work for the courts, and though I don't work in Santa Fe, we did have protestors outside of our court house. Supreme Court told all courts to close throughout the state...very unpleasant walking to your car from your office with a bunch of gun toating nut cases screaming at you...I'm like hey...I'm a friggin' accountant over here numnuts.7 -

Wow! You live and work there? I would have not fallen by jumped off the wagon there yesterday!
Be safe You can do dry whatever, whenever!
Who knew being an accountant would be such a dangerous job....1 -

I live in New Mexico, not DC...but there were protests all across state capitols and other government buildings yesterday as well as DC. I work for one of the biggest district courts in the state...not in Santa Fe which is our state capitol, but there were protesters outside of our courthouse, some of whom were armed, which is an uneasy feeling...there weren't a ton of them, but even a few armed people are intimidating.
About two years ago, someone took a pop shot at one of the windows in our courthouse...I'm sure they were hoping it was a judge's office or something, but it happened to be my office window on the third floor. Fortunately, the distance the shot had to be taken from and the angle made it so the projectile did not go all the way through our triple panes...but gave me a pretty good scare just sitting there working on some spreadsheets for our budget and minding my own business.
I'll be back on the wagon on Monday...I think I'll have a bit easier go of it since we're moving to a hybrid office schedule and I'll be in the office more with routine. I've mostly been working at home and only go in when I need to do some big print job or something (like yesterday)...living at home and working from home and staying home and nothing being open has taken it's toll with nothing really to do...so I'm looking forward to some more structured routine and hoping it helps to make things a little easier. Too easy right now to poor a cocktail at 3:30 or something.5 -
Well today is day 7. I'm sleeping better, I have more energy, I am exercising every day, and my mood feels good.
NONE of my friends and not even my wife thought I would make it for more than a day. In their defense, I am a total booze-hound, tried this last year, and dropped it immediately to have beers while watching Bowl games on New Years Day.
This has been a stressful year and a couple drinks after work (and too many on the weekends) have helped pack on the pounds. Heck, that's always how I unwound.
In the last week I have had more than one stressful life event (such as a buyout at work) and of course... yesterday's disaster at the Capitol. It really helped me learn how I responded to stress. I wanted a pizza and a beer for sure.
I was watching the news last night getting angrier by the minute and I just stopped myself. I jumped on my echelon bike for 45 minutes. I turned off the phone and the TV and sunk myself completely into that. It completely changed my whole mood. Afterwards I went upstairs to help with dinner and then found some trashy sitcoms to watch on TV instead of gluing myself to the news. It felt like a big win for me.
I'm not sure what will happen in February. Right now I feel like I never want to go back, but I think I will focus on today instead6 -
I am on board... but I have been dry for almost 7 years now The same thing with soda.. I just stopped one day to see how many days I could go without a diet soda (I HAD to have one everyday) and well, I just kept going, lol! I think it's been about 5 years for soda now. Now it's usually just water and coffee.2

Did MFP really change your curse word to "kitten"?0

Yesterday was a challenge for me, too.3 -

Ha! It does seem that MFP doesn't allow cursing. That's probably good as I tend to 'spice up' my sentences.
Congrats on 7 years! Impressive. May I ask what made you stop?1 -

I can tell a big difference in my being able to relax in the evening, and have too much energy. And craving sweets at night..🍰🍩🍬
yes...sweets!!! All I want at night is chocolate!!!! But maybe it's PMS, I should check that too2 -
Good luck this weekend everyone! I know weekends are really hard for me. Always look forward to that glass of wine on Friday. I have to be strong and get through it. I keep telling myself I can do anything for one month! Best to all of you. Stay strong.1

As someone who has had his struggles with alcohol for years, I can tell you that cravings for sugar are pretty normal when you quit or substantially decrease consumption...one of the reasons they always have cookies and whatnot at AA meetings.2 -
I'm cutting back, at least. And I didn't start jan1...but you have to start somewhere right? I'm having other health issues that may be exacerbated by alcohol and caffeine, so I'm trying to cut back on alcohol AND coffee. I'm limited to 1 lg coffee(3tbs of 1/3 decaff) and then a chai tea bag. In the evening, a spice herbal tea instead of wine. Unfortunately, I'm also cutting back on chocolate and carbonation as well. Wish me luck!4

Me too! I'm hoping to not crave too much tonight!1 -

Good luck! I'm also going for drier January, rather than dry. I started late, but I figured cutting back and consuming less is still an improvement, even if I don't strictly do it for a full month.3 -

I gave up alcohol at the end of June. I had headaches on and off for the first two weeks. Hopefully yours do not last as long. I have to say, though, that a life without alcohol (or at least with limited) is really worth it. I feel so much better these days.
My favorite sub is fruity herbal teas. Some day I drink them in an insulated wine glass, other just in my mugs. They also help with sweet cravings. Stash is my favorite brand.3 -
My workweek was so stressful, I threw a bottle of wine in the fridge thinking "screw it" before I went to the gym. Got home from the gym, made dinner, ate, then started on a puzzle. Realized I still had the wine chilling, but didn't drink it. Now I just have to get through today and tomorrow. I'm so used to netflix and wine on Saturday nights...2

I have to because the doctors suspect I have a stomach ulcer. It's not as hard as I thought it would be. Going off the pepsi max was way harder 😂.1

One week in!
I started this forum on a whim and thought January would be relatively beast month. WRONG. Between more covid restrictions (more at home schooling here, I'm a stay at home dad) and the crap in DC..it's a wonder I'm not hung over today. But, I'm NOT.
I didn't really think reading everyone's posts would mean much..Also WRONG.
It's cool knowing more in the same boat.
Feel free to send me a friend request if anyone wants!
