@katharmonic the podcast is 'My dad wrote a porno'. Not for playing to young or sensitive ears though!
We're runners, of course we're not tired of pee talk. In fact I really want to know what you think about the device, I've been thinking about getting something along those lines.3 -
@polskagirl01 That sounds really tough. You did great and good for you not worrying about being in last place! Hope you get to join the group and make some new running buddies.

Last run of the month was a bonus run. It was such a beautiful Saturday morning I couldn't resist going out for a short run. There were quite a few people out and about this morning. The most interesting person I encountered on the trail in a local park was a woman who must've been well into her 70's, who had clearly spent the majority of those years in the sun, wearing what could only be described as a white frilly bra and denim underwear and I swear she doused herself in half a bottle of perfume. Her scent was on the trail a long way after we passed each other
That's me done for January, see you all in Feb!5 -
January is done for me. Clocked 300.7km. My first 300km month ever. Stoked!8

Re shewee or other female urinal devices
They are an excellent idea - in theory. In practice the act of trying to pee while standing is incredibly difficult. I do urodynamics at work every month or so which we do ask women to pee while standing while taking xray images of them, and very few women can do it. We just aren't used to it. Realistically you need to squat a little to let the pelvic floor relax enough. Not to say it can't be done, it just requires practice and a bit of meditation.3 -

Wow well done!1 -
Nice run @kirstymn ! I hate it when people wear so much perfume that it just lingers. I'm allergic to most, so will either start sneezing or my nose instantly stops up. You did great smashing your goal!
@ContraryMaryMary Congrats on your PB for distance in a month! That's awesome!
I walked to mom's and back today. She walked the first half mile on the way back (an out and back to her house) again today. I was proud of her...she went a bit faster than normal. I didn't do any extra when I got home because it was cold out and starting to rain, which quickly turned into snow flurries. Burr. Anyway, I got in 2.0 miles again today. First mile was 3.7 mph, second was 3.3.

Thanks for starting the February thread @Avidkeo!
I joined a couple of friends at 7:00 am this morning when the temp was 22F. No wind and no snow. My fingers were cold the first couple of mile but they warmed up. The sun was nice once it popped out.
@eleanorhawkins – I love listening to a good podcast. Laughter really is a great medicine.
@Scott6255 – Big hugs to you for your life struggles. My work has been chaos but thankfully I have running water!
Kudos to your @polskagirl01 for posting your run and putting yourself out there. Sounds to me like you did great just getting out there on those trails. Awesome half marathon streak!
@quilteryoyo – as someone else said, it’s much easier to run in the cold than to walk. You’re doing a great pace on your walks and I love that your mom is getting out.
@kirstymn - Interesting trail attire. And perfume? Ugh!
Wahoo @ContraryMaryMary – great mileage!
@kgirlhart – glad you are still able to get your morning runs in with the new job. Are you liking it? I know you wanted a bit more of a challenge.

Made my goal on the last run! I skipped a run earlier this week because a work meeting got in the way and I didn't want to miss climbing in order to run after work.
Today's run was kind of hard. I started out ok, but the humidity got the best of me in the back half and my pace slowed way down. It was about 60 F, which is warmer than I really prefer but not too bad. But it was super humid. You could feel the air like a super fine damp mist. When it's like that I can almost feel the moisture in my lungs, like it's blocking my oxygen.
My daughter does competitive rock climbing and the gym that is hosting the youth competition right now is also doing a community competition. With COVID, it's virtual. In this case that just means we don't all have to show up at one place at one time and wait for hours while the kids compete. The routes are set and you go climb over a 2 week period. So, I decided to do the community comp. There's not a ton of women climbing at my grade so I might even win something! I guess we'll see. We are headed back tomorrow to let her (and me) get a few more routes in.
See everyone over in February.6 -
Some great runs the last few days everyone!
@Avidkeo Seems like you are well on track for your HM.
@Scott6255 Sorry to hear your plumbing issues are still dragging on. It sounds very stressful! I hate dealing with house problems.
@quilteryoyo Your recovery seems to be going well and your mom is getting in on it too!1 -

I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

@ContraryMaryMary - Congratulations, awesome mileage!
@Avidkeo - I have never thought about peeing standing up. I think it would be difficult to do!
@kirstymn - I hope I am never that lady! Yikes I can't even imagine!

@Teresa502 So far I have been able to get my runs in before work. I have to get up earlier, but I am getting used to it. I do like the new job. It is a lot busier than my old job, but I am getting used to that too.4
-
8 miles on Friday, a little faster than usual for a long run, otherwise nothing notable. Saturday was a lifting day so I should get one more run in for the month.
The photos from the in-person winter series 3k are up and I am so glad we didn’t do it. Just too many people in the same place at the same time. Only one woman wearing a mask, runners spaced out about 10-20 ft, crowded check-in tables. Just gotta be patient a little bit longer until we get the vaccine!3 -
I didn’t meet my goal for the month, but that is ok. I’ve been on call for 10/31 days of the month and had a major audit, so that slowed me down a bit. My hubby and I are on target for our Run the Year though (even though we are counting both running and walking)!6

When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)5 -
@Teresa502 That's cold for a run. Glad you got some sun. It was cloudy all day here yesterday and we even got a surprise snow shower around 4 pm. Crazy weather. I'm glad mom is walking with me too. I used to tell her she needed to get some "intentional" walks in. She would laugh and say all of her walks are intentional - like she just didn't accidently walk into the kitchen or out to the barn to help feed the cows. I think she can tell a difference already. I know I see that she is getting faster, not that that is the intent, and going further before she has to rest.
@martaindale Congrats on making your goal! Heat and humidity will slow you down. You did great! Good luck with the rock climbing. I have zero upper body strength, so that is not something I would attempt. Sort of wish I could.
@HonuNui Great snorkeling pictures and love that you got to swim with the dolphins. Did any of them approach you? Was it scary? I think I might have been a tad bit terrified and awe struck at the same time.
@marisap2010 You did great, considering all that life threw at you this month.

Not to say it can't be done, it just requires practice and a bit of meditation.
or fart right? cuz that's the way guys do it. Just popping in to stalk @shanaber a bit and see if she mentioned that book she's listening to, because I am procrastinating on everything else today. @Avidkeo Honestly, I pee in the shower just fine, no squatting required. Yes I know- I'm told that is a disgusting thing to do but honestly it's the rear germs that I think are worrisome, on soap, on the shampoo bottle, under my feet... I gotta go and am not getting back out to pp a tiny bit. Ya'll feel free to convince me otherwise, I'm open to being corrected.4 -

Lol yeah true, I pee in the shower too. No shame haha. But that's with running water, and something I've always done. Pelvic floor muscles are notoriously shy (per the urology dr) and put them in a situation they aren't familiar with, and the clamp tight.2 -

Has this urology doctor ever accidentally peed herself/himself while out running? No squatting necessary. I'm wondering whether someone who needs the device really has shy muscles. 😆3 -

Accidentally... well I must admit I've had to start using a just in case pad recently for long runs. For some reason I can hold it in while running but as soon as I finish and slow to a walk I'm in trouble.
I have never ever been able to pee outside. The thought that someone might see me makes it impossible, no matter how desperate I am. So I thought maybe one of those devices would mean I could stand against a tree with my back to the world or something. Probably still wouldn't be able to. I'll probably end up having to run in nappies lol

Needing the loo mid-run is my biggest fear. I always do a loop near to where I live for the first 3/4 mile as it seems to... force the issue!1
-
Walked to my mom's for lunch today, plus some. There was an unexpected mist falling. When I started home, it sprinkling rain, so mom didn't walk any with me. I just came on home to beat the rain. Once I got here, it was still just barely sprinkling, so did some short driveway laps to complete another mile. The rain picked up before I got done, but not enough to get me wet. Today's total was 2.0 miles. AVG pace: 3.7 mph
Monthly total was 38.62 walking miles.
January Goals: 1 - Get the surgery to repair my aortic root aneurysm - DONE
2 - Be able to walk to my mailbox by the end of the month. That would be half a mile, with the second quarter mile being uphill. - DONE - First day being home (4 days after surgery) I walked 1.17 miles. The next day, I walkedfrom mom's home to take a shower, so made it up the hill. Longest walk so far, post surgery, is 3 miles, avg 3.2 mph pace.

And that’s a wrap for January. I set my goal on the low side since it was January, but my Desert Storm Challenge motivated me to run on days that I may have otherwise ditched due to the cold.
Oh wow @HonuNui! How neat those dolphins are – the fish too!
@quilteryoyo – Our snow hit about 7:30 last night. We only got about an inch or so and it was a very wet snow. The rain today has washed most of it away.
Congratulations to everyone for meeting goals, healing and tackling life head on!

Only got 10 miles in today. 22mph wind was brutal. It was all I could do to get in my minimum double-digit miles. So much for my weekend streak of 13+ miles. Ends at a measly 6. Oh well, 120 miles in January is a huge PR for me. Usually I am nursing an injury or recovering from one in January. On to February.

@quilteryoyo : they were within 6 feet of me, circling me, going under, then they'd swim off....and return several times. Neither I nor my snorkeling buddy heard any chatter/clicking, but we think it's just because we were too excited to notice! And it was not scary at all-I was clearly just a pylon in their "road," something to swerve around.
Met my goal of running the "A's," by also finishing the "B's." On to the "C's." (and D's....)
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

@Scott6255 Congrats on your Jan mileage PR! That's fantastic! You did great getting in 10 miles in those conditions!
@AlphaHowls You're running distances never cease to amaze me. Here's hoping that Feb will be less eventful.
That is so cool @HonuNui !
