As @avidkeo said, holiday weekend here. I have a rest day (yay) so only yoga.
We took the girls to Woodhill Forest to the tree adventures park - tightropes and flying foxes (zip lines). So much fun. And fortunately, due to age and height restrictions, not too scary (I'm the fraidy cat - it's not the height, it's the wobbly ones. I hate the idea of falling).6 -
February Goal: Hike/Run the "B's" *
2/1 off
2/2 3.50 Cote D'Ivoire and Cape Verde Islands
2/3 off
2/4 3.35 Cambodia
2/5 Life
2/6 3.55 Cameroon
2/7 4.30 Canada
Total 14.70
@shanaber Yes I am learning something new with each run, tho some videos are better than others. Really enjoyed today's trip across Canada, and @noblsheep and @avidkeo I am taking suggestions for China and New Zealand!
Tangerine Mimosas. Tangerine juice. Tangerine sauce on cheesecake.
@quilteryoyo so glad that Tippy is home
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not the world?

It was cold this morning, but went out and did 3+ miles with a friend. Forgot to start the watch so actually a little bit more.
I had to hustle home so I could quick shower and change and leave again. Stella was upset by that behavior, and when I finally returned home again I had to make that up to her with a 3+ mile walk.
Then when I got home, a package had arrived at more door and it was my new snowshoes! After my last hiking trip and realizing my snowshoes weren't going to cut it for mountain hiking, I ordered these for better traction and with a heel lift for ascents. It turns out snowshoes are another of the things in short supply right now because of everyone being outside more. It was hard to find any in stock anywhere online (and nothing in stores). I found one pair and ordered it, and the next day they cancelled the order because they didn't actually have them. I quickly ordered a different model which I had actually sent to a friend to suggest they order quickly before there were none. He didn't act on it and I nabbed the last pair I think. I expected that order to be cancelled as well (and they had given me 15% off for cancelling the first one) but lo and behold they came! And I love them. I immediately took them out for a test. I didn't have any mountains but tried a few hilly trail sections and they were much improved.
So now I'm ready to head back to the mountains. Except now none of my friends can find snowshoes. Hopefully it will all work out.11 -
Short easy 5k today, my legs feel cooked after running hard then lifting heavy yesterday and also I am a wimp about cold. “Feels like” 28 F and my thighs felt numb when I got in! I read about the temps some of y’all run in and can’t even imagine it! It’s supposed to snow later this week so I guess I will have to get used to the idea.5

I ran 8 and walked 2 miles yesterday. It was in the 30s while I ran, but it was a pretty, sunny day and didn’t feel too bad. I had planned to get in a mile before work, but my second toe on my left foot hurts a bit, so I will hold off until tonight to make sure it feels better.5

Good running everyone. A little shy on the miles myself over the last week however the Run the World team as=re splash effortlessly through the North Atlantic as we near Sao Miguel. Hopefully we get some company in this stretch...11

@kgirlhart Great run and glad your hip is doing well. I don't blame you for taking advantage of the warmer temps.
@shanaber Wow. That's a lot of tangerines! I know your friends all love you this time of year.
Sounds like a fun family day @ContraryMaryMary !
@katharmonic Glad you were able to score some snow shoes. We need pictures! LOL Hope your friends are able to find some so you can continue your hikes in the snow.
Nice run @marisap2010 ! I hope your toe feels better this afternoon.

Donated blood yesterday afternoon. They said no vigorous activity for 24 hours, so thought I would take it easy today. Ended up being just a pretty normal 5 mile treadmill run.

Cloudy, low teens F, and just a light breeze from the southeast. Wore a heavier long sleeved tech top under y fleece hoodie and was fine as far as temperatures go. Heard cardinals, robins, and a song sparrow.
Today's the first day (in theory) I can schedule my COVID vaccine. My provider has 112,564 people registered; has contacted 19,642 of those registered for appointments; and has given 8,634 shots. Don't think I'll be going in this afternoon.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)10 -
@Tramboman I love hearing about your birdies. I’m trying to learn to identify more of my locals by song. Some are easier than others though - yesterday I had four nuthatches at my feeder at one time and it sounded like a clown convention! Squeaky honk honk!6

Afternno all. Good running @rheddmobile !
Happy to see you recovering so well @quilteryoyo @Faebert sorry about the ankle! I know too well!
Re:cold Last year I didn't think twice about going out to run in the cold (although anything less than 25F I hesitated). This year, I can't make myself. It's too easy right now to just get on the treadmill - run the Peloton app and do a couple of classes. However, I have told myself that on Wed I will go out - if it's 32 or above I will go lol. I've become quite the wimp.
Today was 7 miles on the tread (was 27F out so yeah).
Cheers to all!4 -
We're getting a snowstorm, but I had to go out in it and decided to combine my errand with a trip to the forest. The roads were bad, and the trails were covered with a nice thick layer of sand-like snow, but I had fun. I used screw shoes AND nordic poles and they did help, although it still felt like fighting for every step. I followed the route for the virtual run, but my time was even slower than last time when I did it on ice. I suspect if I'd done the whole route with my son on Saturday, we might've got a better time at his pace, haha.
I am wondering though, what causes a person to walk like this?
It went on for a long stretch with no variations as long as I was on the same trail, so I don't think it was someone trying to be funny - this seems to be their gait. I tried following the steps, and it was really uncomfortable.
It was nice and quiet though, nice snowy forest, and I saw some deer, a few people out walking or with dogs, and in many places I was making the trails as no one else had been there yet since the snowfall.5 -
@polskagirl01 many people are born with duck feet (toe out) or toe in. I actually was born with my feet tending that way as well. The funny part is that when I broke my femor in 97 (bad spiral fracture and no I can't find the xrays) the ortho inserted a rod. He did a MOST excellent job getting my legs the same length but years later I noticed the leg which was broken no longer toes out... true story.4

i do also! I am a purple martin landlord with 12 gourds and they are due back in central Tx any day now. I hope they wait because we are about to have a cold snap for a week with temps in the 20s and even one day in the teens! I am not sure I will not take a few "rest" days as I don't have a treadmill to revert to.2 -

@polskagirl01 I have also read that toe out walking can be the result of flat feet.1
-
Also don't people who ride horses a lot have a walk like that? Think John Wayne1
