🍀Happy March, ladies!🍀
☘️We are now firmly into 2021! What are your goals for the spring? Or for March specifically? Is there anything new you'd like to incorporate into your routine? Or a habit you'd like to kick to the curb?
☘️If there was one piece of advice you could share with women who are just starting out on their weight loss journey, what would it be?
🟢If you've never been here before, please know you are welcome to join at any point in the month. All you have to do is post something, and then BAM! you're one of us.
🟢In this group, we post our weekly and monthly goals and provide support and motivation to each other as we share our triumphs and our struggles. This group is all about accountability.
🟢All women are welcome and, if you think you belong here, you do! No matter how much you currently weigh or how you measure (or don't measure) your weight, we'd love to hear from you.
🟢Victories, both scale and non-scale, are great to hear about, but, conversely, we know that weight loss isn't all sunshine and roses. If you're going through a rough patch, please feel free to be honest and vent your heart out. The struggle is real and we're all here to support each other!

Hello everyone!
February went well and looking forward to the beginning of Spring later this month! I’m not working out as much as I was pre COVID, so I dropped my daily calorie intake from 1700 to 1500. I also signed up for an online workout service (not sure if we can name particular brands) and want to explore more variety – Pilates, boxing, yoga.

• count calories and stay under 1500
• read the wonderfully inspiring posts in this message board when I am feeling “off”
Stay healthy!14 -
Thank you for keeping this group going, @RavenStCloud!
I'm going to paste my weigh-in template here so I don't have to go digging for the February thread come Friday. Nice thing about March, the first 28 days fall on the same days of the week as February, so the weigh-in dates are the same! LOL.

I think I underestimated how much of a difference waking up an hour earlier would make - this is Week 2 of waking up at 6 AM instead of 7 AM, and I think that's a big part of why the last week of February was so off-the-rails for me, as I was adjusting to a new schedule and routine. I was also pretty burned out on the workout plan I had selected for last month - it was both boring AND difficult, which is a deadly combo for a habit that you're trying to build or maintain. So, this month, I'm making exercise fun again and using Ring Fit Adventure 5/7 mornings per week. I have all this extra time, might as well make good use of it. I'm also looking forward to going for a walk at the park near my house on Thursday morning. I haven't been out that way in a minute and it's always beautiful there, and it's always cool to see some local wildlife; there's a peacock that hangs out near the parking lot, and I've encountered families of deer and osprey as well. It's wild to see a bird as tall as I am just, you know, vibin.12 -

This month was a big one for me since I set a goal to lose 50 pounds by the end of February - and I hit 51.4 pounds lost! This feels like my first big milestone.
I still have been really bad about exercising, so I'm going to again try to put that as a March goal and see what happens. I don't have a real weight lose total goal for the month, so just trying to keep consistent with what I've been losing so far since I've been happy with it.22 -

Weight Loss Goal for March: 6 pounds
For this month I'm keeping my calorie goal at 1425 a day. Totally doable for me as I have a lot to lose.
I'm going to stay away from added sugars, bread and pasta this month. It seems better for mental clarity, energy levels and inflammation for me.
I have one cheat day planned to celebrate my sister in law's birthday ( so cake yeah and a glass of champagne) other than that no alcohol for March either. I can do that. It's just one month.
I'm going to try and get out for more walks when the weather is lovely and I will not turn on the TV until 7;30. (pm not am I'm watching too much. I know it's a pandemic and we are still on lockdown but I'm feeling like I'm wasting my life in front of a screen right now.
I'm also going to get rid of one thing that I don't need or love everyday this month. It's either trash, donate or sell. Spring clean up begins. Out with the clutter and extras. And one last thing (and this will be hard) but I will make no unnecessary purchases this month. No clothes, no treats, nothing I don't absolutely need. This is a financial decision as well as trying to break a habit of a material consumption high. I would like to try to find happiness not with more (unnecessary) purchases and instead focus on what I have.
April 1st I'll let you know how it all went! Good luck this month everybody! I look forward to reading your posts!

Happy March!
Age: 47
Height: 5'8.5" (does the .5 even count?? )
Weight: unknown as I haven't weighed in a couple weeks, will check in the morning.
I am going to try to be more active this month. My husband and I bought an exercise bike and it finally arrived last Wednesday night. Got it put together and did my first ride on Thursday and my 2nd (painful) ride on Friday. It's funny how as a kid you don't realize how sore your behind can get from riding a bike haha. I took Saturday off so as to recover a bit and it helped. Sunday's ride didn't hurt as much as Friday HA. I was really excited for the bike to arrive and so far have been looking forward to using it. I am hopeful this trend will continue for me and I have finally found an exercise I truly enjoy.
I am continuing on with WW, and at the same time, being mindful that what I put in my mouth is nutritious and something I enjoy more than the point value at this time. Trying to embrace that better eating habits last longer if you enjoy the food you are eating.
I will try to set a goal weight for the month once I see where I stand after February. Good luck everyone.10 -

Thank you @RavenStCloud for creating this space. I love your thoughtful questions:
☘️We are now firmly into 2021! What are your goals for the spring? Or for March specifically? Is there anything new you'd like to incorporate into your routine? Or a habit you'd like to kick to the curb?
- My goal for the Spring is to work on running faster. I realized that the best way to run faster is to run faster! Yeah, I know that's so obvious, but I'd been working so long on building endurance, I'd been neglecting the VO2 Max side of things. So, I'll be doing more speed training mid week so those long slow Saturday runs aren't quite as slow. I'd really love to be able to obtain a sub 10 minute half marathon pace by July.
- A habit I'd like to kick to the curb: treating weekends as cheat days. Need to log every day, even on the weekends.
☘️If there was one piece of advice you could share with women who are just starting out on their weight loss journey, what would it be?
- Focus on doing just one or two small changes at a time that you can commit to doing every day but daily, consistent and accurate logging needs to be your #1 goal. Don't worry about exercise right away. Get the food thing down first, then think about increasing movement and gaining strength in a few months.

That's a really, really important goal and I'm glad you picked that one. You are doing amazingly well. You have already lost more than 5% of your starting weight and your body is already feeling the difference. I hope you can too.
One way to work on that goal is to catch yourself when you have a negative thought and challenge the validity of that thought. Turn the negative thought on its head and replace it with a positive statement about yourself, even if you don't believe it in the moment. Say it anyway, out loud if you can. Keep repeating words of self-love until you believe them. It's such an important step in our recovery.

I weigh on Mondays.
I've finally accepted that my previous gym routine (from the start of last year) is well and truly dead, so signed up with Les Mills on demand. Current plan is Pump Mon, Wed, Fri and Bodybalance Tues/Thurs.
Habit I'd love to quit - working hard, losing a chunk of weight, then for whatever excuse, dropping it all and piling the weight back on.
Advice - Each day, do the best you can under whatever the circumstances are. Don't focus on the distance, focus on the path right in front of you.

I'm thinking about getting some resistance bands, maybe I'll order them from Zulily since I don't need them urgently. There's always some kind of fitness equipment on offer. What kind of bands do you have, @BeastlyMaple? Are they the wide flat ones, or the ones that are like little tubes with handles?3
-
@goal06082021 I'm overwhelmed by how many I have now, lol. As someone who's never officially worked out or stepped into a gym, it's scary, lol. However, the bands make me feel like this is achievable. I bought myself the "mini bands". The flat thin rubber ones. I really liked those, they are perfect for simple upper bodywork. However, they were too tight for leg work. The boyfriend gifted me the tubular ones with optional handles, which I'll be using when I can buy wall mounts for the outside. ( small house, so going to try the brick outside). He also bought me the super thick rubber ones that are really long. Those ones are really versatile and can basically do everything that you would find in the gym with machines. I've only used my mini bands so far, but I do see good potential for the others. Each set has 5 different weight ranges, so there's so many options. I'll be using mine for mostly physio until I can build up strength. I did find I do a much better job using bands than dumbells, because you're always under tension. So it helps me maintain form a lot easier without getting sloppy.
Tubular and the big flat rubber ones ( pull up) are " The Fit Life" on Amazon. Which for me, being Canadian was the most affordable for quality ( plus 10$ off), we're limited to our options. There is SO many really helpful youtube playlists for all of these too, I feel excited because it looks like something I will enjoy and be able to maintain. I hope any of this helps!4 -

* Stop putting myself down( that is going to be a hard one)
I had a health coach tell me to tell myself every day when I brush my teeth to say in the mirror "I love you, you are very lovable". EVERY DAY. It has really changed how I view myself and help stop the negative voices in my head. I spent some time last month really focusing on how much I appreciate everything my body does for me in a given day, instead of berating her for what she doesn't do. Maybe some of this will help you. It's an ongoing battle, I know. hugs9 -
@BeastlyMaple Good info, thank you! Are the mini-bands the ones that are circular, like gigantic rubber bands? I've seen some ladies do squats with those around the thighs, I don't get what that's supposed to accomplish - and with my Mighty and Powerful Thighs I'd be worried about the band snapping and getting thwacked right in the kitten, as it were.6

Happy March! Spring (or Autumn) will soon be here...at least on the calendar!
Highest weight: 435 (11/1/18)--lost 50 lbs. by the end of 2018 but got off track and gained back almost 31 lbs.
SW: 415.8 (4/17/19)
2/24: 161.0 (my weigh in day is Wednesday)
2/28: 158.6
3/3:
3/10:
3/17:
3/24:
3/31:
March GW: 154.6
GW: 160 (then reevaluate)--well, I hit this at the end of February. I don't really know what my final goal will be but I know 160 is not it. I'm guessing it will be somewhere between 130 and 150 so for now my GW will be: TBD (130-150).
Weekly exercise goals:
- bike ride or exercise bike 5 times per week (hopefully more bike rides than exercise bike as the weather warms up & the snow melts!)
- strength training 2 times per week
- chair yoga 4 times per week
- step ups on aerobic step platform twice a day at least 3 times per week
Thanks again for setting up the new month, @RavenStCloud . Hope everyone has a wonderful and healthy March!8 -
@goal06082021 hahaha, I just adore you! This made me openly laugh and just feel so understood and accepted. Yes, the mini bands ( wide but very small circular bands) are the ones I always see women use around their thighs, and I mean no judgment here but it is always tiny petite women. A quick youtube search of " mini bands" will show these. I tried it, and I felt like my legs were being squeezed to death- really really uncomfortable even with the super stretchy extra light band. They are only 11" unstretched, so I knew it wasn't going to work but I figured hey, I'm gonna try this! Yeah, right, it was like trying to take a barbie doll belt off in a huge hurry, lol. I just did tricep workout though with the exact same band, and my arms are burning and sore. I could only manage 5 x5 but they are solid bands. I have put the mini bands through the works to see if they'd break and nothing yet. They were around $20 or so for 5, and I do really like them... just not for wrapping around the thighs. Everything else though, I say they are a handy cheap tool.
If you youtube "resistance bands" ( mostly beefy men in gym settings), you'll see a youtubeer like "Bruce Willow Fitness & Stunts" he uses huge 3 foot long rubber bands, that I would picture to go on the world's largest old school vacuum cleaner. Those bands are the ones that are really versitile, his videos are actually really entertaining and very educational for that style of band. I have cried laughing at his video's and have learned a lot.
With having three different styles of bands, I know during the month of march I'll be able to figure out which ones work best for each movement. Right now my arms are too tired to hold a coffee cup from the cheap mini band. LOL.
I will however say that doing squats with a extra light band around the knees, actually helps stabilize my back and makes it a lot gentler of a movement. That is one thing I will say about the mini's they are really beginner friendly and are a huge condidence booster. Okay, I am done rambling! sorry group
6 -
@BeastlyMaple LOL thanks, you're too kind! This is all very good info - I dunno about anybody else but I sure appreciate it! I'm surprised about the band around the knees making a squat easier, although I guess that makes sense if your knees want to fly out to the sides as you lower. I know my hips are happier with a wider stance for squats, a band might help with training a narrower stance.2
-
Hello. Current weight is 100.5 kilos, I think that is about 222 pounds. Goal weight is 75 kilos, which I think is about180. Goals for this month are to keep logging, to drink more water, to increase my activity levels, and to try and keep my sleep cycle regular. I’ve been logging again for about a month. Lost 6.6 pounds in Feb. I would like to lose the same again, on the basis that I am in the groove now, and finding it easier to stick to my calorie limit.7
-
@goal06082021 haha I actually learned very recently, that I wasn't doing a wide enough stance for my squats, which was why it was so painful on the knees. I watched a video that explained how foot placement can be so different on people, depending on how far inward/ outward they can turn their leg, as it makes a difference with their hips. Ankle rotation and strength makes squats very different with everyone for foot placement. When I had my heels inner hip-width, I couldn't squat without pain and shaking, moving them outward maybe 2 inches? and turning the toes out just slightly? Helped so much, could really tell that the pelvis and hips appreciated it. I have lower disc bulges, so squats made the lower back buckle a bit once the knees feel shaky. So just putting a band around the knees helped give them some support, which completely took the pressure off my back. Squats are the one thing I've had to relearn, my physiotherapist a few years back didn't teach me to lean forward, so I've always done them completely upright and just bent the knees as low as possible. ( wow, things are so much less painful when done even remotely close to "form") haha.5

Hi there! My name is Katie and this is my first time ever posting in a group, so I hope I am doing it right! Lol.
A little about me: I have been trying to lose weight for years, was in a constant state of gaining and losing, and even struggled with eating disorders of different forms. Then a couple years ago, I finally felt I was in the right headspace to lose weight out of love for myself 💛 I felt confident.
Then, last year, my mom passed away very suddenly.
I felt gutted. I resorted to old habits out of comfort, and am now the heaviest I have ever been.
After focusing on my mental and spiritual health, it is time to focus on my physical health as well. So here I am!

GW for 2021: 199lb or lower
As with last month I find myself slightly up on my weigh in for the last day of Feb, ha! But I saw 236.6 last weekend so my average is tracking ok and hopeful I can hit my rather ambitious target for March. I’ve got the exercise bug at the moment so if I can sustain that I’m hopeful!
☘️What are your goals for the spring? Or for March specifically? Is there anything new you'd like to incorporate into your routine? Or a habit you'd like to kick to the curb?
I’ve set myself a goal to start running again. I fell in love with running on my last MFP journey and that time I started at 235lbs, and with the weather warming up nicely, there are no excuses not to give it a go again. Only difference is that last time I was living in outer London and had a super quiet and lovely running route. Now living in central Dublin there are nice routes, but lots more people wherever I go which I really don’t enjoy. I guess I’m just gonna have to get my backside out there nice and early! And I am not a morning lark...
Also to get more sleep, I keep reading about how it can supercharge weight loss and support general fitness, and I love me some sleep so why am I staying up so late every evening?!
☘️If there was one piece of advice you could share with women who are just starting out on their weight loss journey, what would it be?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Not original, but always true!
@BeastlyMaple @goal06082021 - loving your insights on resistance bands! I used to have a set of three of the giant elastic band loop types but I lost them, maybe in the move. I bought a new one recently and it’s open ended (I think that’s a Pilates style of preference?) which I’m not a fan of, but have been seeking out stretching videos to use them and I’m enjoying it, will look to progress on to actually using it for a proper strength workout this week. Tempted to get the rope with handles for that... keep me posted about your favourite uses!5 -
Hello March! Glad to be a part of this group yet again. You ladies are so inspirational and motivating to me.

Weigh in days is Friday for me so I’ll be continuing that trend.
I’ve decided to set mini goals each month of a loss of 2.5kg (5.5lbs). I’ve learnt from my previous attempt at weight loss that restricting myself too much just takes me back to square one.
I haven’t really thought of any other goals this month just yet but I’m sure something will come up that I’ll need to focus on.
We’ve got this ladies!
Thank you @RavenStCloud for setting up the thread for March.

Hi all! I'm checking in today, but not weighing in. I'm sticking to my plan of having one official weight per month, so I'll have my three day average on Wednesday.
☘️If there was one piece of advice you could share with women who are just starting out on their weight loss journey, what would it be?
My advice would be don't fear failure. I struggle to keep momentum when I have an off day (or an off week, as I did recently while traveling with family!), but it doesn't have to translate to a permanent derailment. There is always opportunity to improve ourselves.5 -
I know this month is going to challenge me. I'm turning 50 on March 17 ☘️ and menopause hit me like a ton of bricks in February. I feel like I don't know my body and I'm struggling with the aging process. And I'm rolling into this month with a lot of sadness and anxiety. I'd like to shed some of that along with the lbs.
As we approach the one-year mark of the pandemic, one thing that I recognized recently is how much anger and fear I've been carrying around. Anger at our government, anger at people not taking this seriously, fear of getting the virus or passing it to someone vulnerable, fear that my business will go under, the fear that this will last forever and I won't get to see my friends and family.
So I guess my goal for this month is to recognize that pain, to grieve the lost plans for my 50th bday celebration, and to look at it all as more practice in the art of letting go. I've made some progress with daily yoga and meditation and I'd like to keep that going for this full month.
