3/1 - 2.75 miles - 3.6 mph - Treadmill walk
March total: 2.75/62 miles
I spent most of the day trying to not get into something I couldn't stop at a moments notice because I was waiting to find out if my cousin was going to be dismissed today AND if I would need to go pick him up if he was. Turns out because his blood pressure had dropped really low yesterday and was still a little low today, they decided to keep him another night. Also, the VA did approve EMS to transport him back to the assisted living, when he's ready, so I won't have to drive the hour to do that. That's good news, but didn't come until after 3, so I had a very unproductive day.
It's a rainy, gloomy, cool day - one where the temperatures have been dropping all day. No outdoor walk for me - plus waiting on the phone calls wouldn't allow it. I did go down and get in a treadmill walk. I did a ladder from 3.5 up to 3.8 and then back down to 3.3 mph - walking for 5 minutes on each level.8 -

For March I want to build on my February goal of completing Couch to 5k.
March goals:
Run 100kms (62 miles)
Build to 5mi long run by the end of the month.

Can't wait to hear all about it as you go along in your training and on the big hike itself!I'm starting to train for a Grand Canyon rim-to-rim hike which is the first part of June so I expect to do more hiking this month. I will set my running goal at 100 miles.

Started March off with a treadmill run before strength class. March is being true to it's in like a lion ways - snow squalls and high winds today. It dropped at least 20 degrees from a high around 40 early this morning and feels like 0 degrees now. Not nice. But I see 50 degrees in the long term forecast into next week, which is crazy. Anyhow, the run was fine, nothing much to report there except finally I allowed myself enough time before class to actually finish 3 miles.9 -

Monday is usually a rest day for me, but I am signed up for the Run the Year streaker challenges so I am going to do a run streak for the month of March. So I ran 1.32 miles this morning before yoga. It was cold and almost rainy, but I got it done. I think it will be colder in the morning but not wet so hopefully it will be a nice run.

LOL. Sheep can be quite dignified when they're not... chewing. Or otherwise looking ridiculous. This what you had in mind?
@Avidkeo - there was a character in the cartoon Battle of the Planets called Keyop and I always get the image of that character bouncing around in excitement when I read that.

Also +1 @quilteryoyo - My grandmother used to make these fabric circle thingies she called "yo-yos", then would make wall hangings and pillows with them. I think there's a huge garbage bag of them somewhere waiting for me to turn them into a quilt. Turns out there are a few of us quilters in the group!
My username is tricky too, because I live in Poland and speak the language (hence the "polska" - Polish for Poland) but am an American (hence "girl" being in English). I don't think I've ever danced a polka, but it looks fun!
@ContraryMaryMary I wonder if you do a lot of gardening.

Did a preview run of the 10k off road course at Shelby Farms - ran about half, walked about half. It was, as predicted, very flooded, since we had more than 3” of rain in a single hour last night on already saturated ground, and pretty churned up from the race on Sunday, which someone on Facebook described as “a mudfest.” So it was already a mudfest on Saturday, and then we got torrential rain overnight.
This course is always muddy but I haven’t seen it quite this wet before - parts which are usually dry were ankle deep water, and the muddy parts were just a swamp. Several cross trails had turned into temporary creeks, and there’s one bit where a bridge across a creek has turned into what looks more like a boat landing!
My hip felt fine starting out this morning, but I didn’t want to push it too much, so we basically ran the easy bits and walked the hard bits. We used a route based on the race director’s Strava run from the race. It was mostly the same as the posted course from previous years except they wussed out and ran on the road in two places instead of through the woods next to the road. We figured this out AFTER doing the technical bit through the woods. We were running the course as run in previous years, when I said, “Shouldn’t we be seeing muddy footprints from the race?” And lo and behold, our Strava run was offset from the race one by about thirty feet, since those lazy people were running up on the nice dry gravel berm!
My hip started complaining about mile 5 so we walked the rest. The hip isn’t bothering me now, though, and I am much less concerned about a stress fracture due to the sort of thing that makes it hurt - impact doesn’t bother it, but it gets achy from going up stairs. It also isn’t really hurting so much as letting me know it’s still a thing. Pretty sure I strained it when I was trying to get out from under my barbell the other day. As long as it continues to improve I am going to be mellow about it.
We were out late - the sun started to go down before we finished - and we saw so many deer! Also, the sunset was truly spectacular.
Planning on racing it for real on Wednesday or maybe Thursday, depending on how recovered my legs feel and how much rain we get Tuesday night.
We call this stretch the Slough of Despond. I wish there was some way of conveying through a photo that this is knee deep sucking mud and no part is solid ground for a hundred meters either direction. Stepping off the trail doesn’t help, since what appears to be solid ground is actually the tops of rough cut stubble in a foot of standing water. I have seen athletic looking grown men give up and decide to quit the race here, and more than one person haplessly searching for their shoes!
This bridge does go all the way across when it’s not flooded!7 -

Yup. Love my garden. One of my main reasons for moving to the country is so I can have a massive garden.

Ran 2 miles last night after working late. It was almost dark, so I pushed hard to get it done quickly.
I love the commentary on everyone’s names, and the ideas I’ve had for everyone pretty much match up to what has been in my head. I wish now I’d come up with a more unique name.

Nice run @katharmonic ! The temperature dropped here all day too, but not that far! You never know what March is going to bring.
@rheddmobile I'm glad your hip is doing better. I don't think I would enjoy all of that mud. Hope you do well on your race day.

Sorry to disappoint, but I do not play the harmonica, nor am I particularly musical (although that doesn't stop me from singing at the top of my lungs in my car). It's job-related nerdiness - harmonics are multiples of the fundamental frequency of a sound. My area is more hearing and acoustics of speech than music.
I've puzzled about @rheddmobile for sure.
@ContraryMaryMary so your garden grows well, but are you quite contrary? You seem nice. Also, I've just read a rather dark interpretation of that nursery rhyme on wikipedia related to Bloody Mary. Hmmm.
