Thoughts: It's my birthday week so all is well. I'm so thankful for another year of life and can't wait to see what the good Lord has in store for me. I ate within my calorie range everyday except yesterday. I ate one vegan cupcake to celebrate and a veggie platter from my favorite Ethiopian restuarant. I feel extremely bloated today though, which could explain the scale. I am, however, happy with the loss no matter how small. I'll be eating much lighter today, and my plan is to stay the course for this week.7 -

Finally almost through that lovely TOM and saw a bit of a whoosh this morning on the scale. I was actually 2 lbs heavier yesterday morning so a pretty good whoosh actually. This month has been a lot tougher than I ever imagined it would be. A roller coaster ride. The mass shooting in Boulder (I'm in Denver) earlier this week has me heartbroken and anxious. I don't know. The world we live in is just hard to take lately.
Anyway, I'm trying to focus on the positive things in life and keep on chugging along. I saw crocus blooming and daffodils getting close here as well and that brings me some cheer and hope.
@mumof6sv I just read your post and am so sorry for your losses.

Big Whoosh today. I was happy with my first number and then had a second potty visit to see more. To start seeing 225 is fantastic. MFP got the second and all my other apps had gotten the first. It's coming down.6

Hey everyone! Welcome to all the newbies!
@goal06082021
Congrats on reaching your goal weight for March! That must feel good!
@girlinkaz
3.2 pounds!! thats a huge loss, I be you're happy
I weighed in today and I am up 0.4 pounds. It definitely wasn't the best week. I think I'm going to start weighing in daily to try and motivate me to stay strong throughout the day. I just keep going over at night. I've really started to get into the groove of cooking. I used to live in this 600 sq ft apartment which wasn't the most motivating to get creative in the kitchen. I've moved into a bigger house now and renovated it from top to bottom so now we have this beautiful new kitchen with a huge island, so I have definitely been experimenting more in the kitchen. I'm lucky that my boyfriend will eat anything and everything so it makes experimenting less stressful. It was actually my new years resolution to learn how to cook.
Now I have this new goal to cook more fish! We always have the same salt and pepper salmon and it's good but I think it's time to find some new recipes. I made fish tacos the other day with melt in your mouth halibut and it was delicious. My boyfriend even said he would like that once a week!
Anyways, I'm babbling. I hope everyone has a good Friday!5 -
My first check-in in this group was a Saturday. Thanks for all of the welcomes I received after that That was also the day I started back up logging and eating well again. My weigh-in day will be Friday going forward though.
Age: 37
Height: 5'7"
SW: 280 (Jan 1, 2020)
Weigh-in Progress:
Mar 20: 237.6
Mar 26: 230.8
GW for March: 230 lb
UGW: 199 (and maybe 190 after that)
My March goal is to get back to 230. I had a big drop in the last 6 days but I was expecting it. I had a couple bingey weeks prior and knew I was holding on to lots of water weight and that my body would react well to a drastic switch in my eating. I weighed in at 218 on Dec 21, 2020 (my lowest EVER in my 11-year weight loss "career") and have done a lot of damage since then. Now I'm on damage control and hope to get back to losing more new weight soon5 -
Hello everyone! This is my first post and new to the MFP app. My son-in-law recommended it, so I am trying it out. Here is my stats
Age: 58
Height: 5'2"
SW: 210 lbs (3/22/21)
GW: 140 lbs
I haven't weighed since starting.
Glad to find this post, lot of good information and encouragement.9 -
Happy birthday to all you March birthday ladies! Seems to be quite a few in this group. @girlinkaz That German chocolate cake sounds delicious. When I was young, my mom would make that for my birthday every year. Yummy!
@speyerj and @changeforeverlj Thanks so much for the kind thoughts. My mom wasn't feeling well yesterday so I didn't go to my parents' house to do their taxes as planned. I'll go tomorrow if Mom's feeling better.
Hope you all have a great weekend!5 -
@ladychr0nic I weigh everyday and I find that I not only find it motivating but sometimes my weight will be multiple pounds lower but when it comes time to officially weigh in, I might have jumped up due to various reasons. If I was only relying on 1 data point, I'd be so unmotivated and wanting to give up. If you think you won't take 7 days worth of numbers personally, I suggest trying it.
I am actually eating a salad with fish on it right now. I get those bags of frozen white fish (individually wrapped is ideal) and will pull it out so it can thaw. Once thawed, I'll just cover in avocado oil and lemon pepper seasoning and pan cook it. Then I'll throw it on top of my spinach salads. I really like the contrast of a cold salad and warm fish but it could eaten on the side if needed.4 -
Love the slew of good updates!
I love the individually-packaged tilapia fillets. One of my go-to low-effort-but-reasonably-healthful dinners is baked fish fillets and steamed vegetables over rice. I like salt, pepper, garlic, and paprika on my tilapia, and I'll usually drizzle some soy sauce and sriracha over the rice and veggies as well.3 -
@kali31337
thanks! I'll have to try that. I find it fluctuates a lot so I think I will definitely take your advice and weigh in daily. That fish salad sounds delicious! I just made fish tacos with halibut and oh mannnn it was good.
I had falafel today. It was freakin good. They didn't have nutritional information so I just searched on MFP and found something that sounded like that and added that. So worth it. On to night shifts for the next couple days, so I find it hard to stay within calories because it's like I eat 4 meals in a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack). Hopefully I'll stay within my calories.
I hope everyone is having a good friday!5 -

My state just expanded vaccine eligibility - hubs is eligible now as a healthcare intern with direct patient contact, and I will be eligible after Easter as an adult under 40. No idea when we'll actually be able to get our shots, but at least we're in line now, so to speak. I think I'll feel more comfortable going back to the gym after I'm vaccinated, so I'm looking forward to that; hopefully that'll be a thing by summer. All I want for my birthday (early June) is a COVID vaccine, lmao, we'll see how that goes.
It's wild to think back to where we were a year ago.5 -

It's been a great week. Best thing that happened this week - due to a computer glitch I was invited to schedule my vaccine a month earlier than I was supposed to. At first I wondered if it was a scam, but the url was legit. Then I thought, well, they must have more vaccine than they expected, so jumped at the chance to make my appointment. A couple of hours after I had scheduled it, I got an email that it was a mistake, but they would honor any appointments already scheduled. I felt like I had picked up the "Bank Error in your Favor" Community Chest card in Monolopy! Made me giddy all day. It's scheduled for April 1st. Could not be more relieved and happy.9 -

So, it's been a full year since I began MFP and I made it without quitting!! And, I lost 16 lbs this past year during the Pandemic and with all the other challenges the year threw at me. YEA ME!!!
I withdrew from all threads and groups last year ... except one. I stayed with my F2F group ... but only posted there on my weekly weighin day. I think I'm ready to start posting daily again without being overwhelmed by everything going on. So, will begin with my F2F group and this thread ... F2F to hold myself accountable and this thread to help me organize my day.
Fingers Crossed!! 🤞9 -
Hi Cesse, welcome back! I saw you posted in last year's July thread, was hoping you would find the current one. I think you might have left before I joined this group last year, but the more the merrier I suppose! I like your goals for April, I might borrow a few of those for myself, LOL.1
-
@goal06082021
That's awesome you're in line to get the vaccine! I just got my second dose not long ago. Definitely feels good!
So I actually didn't go over my calories when I was working a night shift!! I'm super proud of myself Also I noticed that my fat scrub pants are a little too big.
One more night shift tonight then freedom for 4 days, can't wait.
Happy Saturday!8 -
Soooo one of my favorite sandwiches in the whole wide world USED to be a Reuben Sandwich complete with delicious grilled white bread, corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand islands dressing... I say USED to be because today I had my daughter bring me home one from Winchell's and I DID NOT LIKE IT ONE BIT! The sad thing is I ate THE WHOLE THING! So now I am sitting here questioning myself as to why I didn't just throw the whole darn thing away! I wish I could say that it was because I didn't want to waste the food or money spent but I think I would be lying, actually I KNOW I would be lying. I think the real reason is quite simply because I am a food addict. Actually, there is nothing simple at all about being a food addict but I definitely think I am one of those. Cases in point... I have to finish every single bite of food on my plate regardless of whether I am full or not. I can never have food lying about in my presence without having to eat it - I will devour a display jar of candy or a container of nuts - and I just CANNOT WILL MYSELF to stop at a piece or two. And how about when choosing a portion of something... I will always silently choose the biggest piece. And lastly, I become emotionally saddened when I have eaten something disappointing and will then feel the need to immediately find a food that will comfort and satisfy me. So today, after that horrible sandwich I followed it by consuming a sugary, powdered donut. Delicious as it was, I think all of these things point to me being a food addict. I wonder, was I born this way?
In my quest to become healthier, I find it's not easy to become a reformed food addict but I have learned to identify these certain behaviors and triggers and to minimize them as best I can. Just as an alcoholic or any other addict needs to take it one day at a time so do I as a food addict. Today, I did poorly with my food addiction by not only finishing the entire disappointing sandwich but also by choosing a very high calorie, high fat, high carb sandwich in the first place and then following it with a sugary, powdered donut!
So for now I am just going to pick myself up, dust myself off and focus on the remainder of my day moving forward!9 -
@BethCW2963 Sorry about your disappointing sandwich. I like your attitude, though - it's good that you recognize this problem and have resolved to work on it. I identify with a lot of what you said - I don't know if I would describe myself as a "food addict" but it may not be too far off the mark tbh, although you can't very well quit food like you could any other addictive substance.
I have definitely eaten things I didn't like, or want, for the sake of not "wasting" food, and then decided that because what I ate was yucky or unsatisfying I could eat something else, in some cases an entire second breakfast/lunch/dinner because my first one wasn't good enough somehow. But by the same token, if the options are that I eat the thing or it goes in the trash, if I don't want it or can't fit it into my budget, it's actually better if it goes in the trash. My body is not a trash can, I am better than that. The money's already spent, I can't return half a muffin or a tupperware full of daal or whatever, and I can't very well mail it to the "starving children in Africa" that I heard so much about growing up.5 -
@goal06082021 - Love what you said regarding throwing away food... "My body is not a trash can, I am better than that." I am going to tuck that one away into my foodie addict repertoire!2

I finally received my scales from Amazon. What a process I went through to get them! I was going to wait and post my weigh-in on Monday, but I decided I would rather do Friday weigh-ins. (I actually received the scales on Saturday, but I am just for this one time going to backdate it to Friday, the day before.)
Age: 58
Height: 5'7"
SW 2/10/2021 - 325.0
CW 3/25/2021 - 277.6 (-47.4 lbs)
GW 2/10/2022 - 199.0
I was so happy when I hopped on the scales and realized I have lost 47.4 lbs. I have been really focused on getting fit and eating healthy so that I can regain control of my health and life. I knew I would initially lose a big chunk of weight relatively quickly since I am so heavy. Now my focus is on an 8-10 lb loss per month.5 -
So my weighing day is Thursdays because I was doing it everyday and decided to change to once a week but might go back to daily after next Thursday!
Had a day off plan yesterday, was very nice. Me and the hubby did homemade sausage rolls which turned out so good. Hope everyone's had a good week!4 -

I'm stuck! I've lost almost 7lbs and then gained back 3lbs in two days. I lost those 3 and gained back 2 over night. I haven't changed anything, I'm not over eating or under eating. I'm at a loss!5
-
@Kaken21 Honey, it's water. It's okay. You're not trying to lose water, you're trying to lose fat. Any fluctuation like that from one day to the next is 100% absolutely just water. Pay attention to the general trend over longer time scales, like weeks or months, especially if you have a menstrual cycle - those ****ing hormones play hell with water retention sometimes.
On another note, don't you hate it when you find out the hard way what your limits are? Hubs had a long morning engagement today, so rather than mill around the house (and kitchen) for four hours, I decided to drive down to one of the bigger parks in the county, with nicer walking trails. I put in a good 4 miles or so...which was way more than I should have done. I made it back to my car fine, but by the time I got home, my left foot was in just incredible pain. I managed to hobble into my house (I live on the second floor, it was a production), looked up some quick home remedies for plantar fasciitis, and implemented as many as I could - RICE, rolled it on the nearest firm cylindrical object I could crawl over to (literally), took an ibuprofen once I was able to hobble to the bathroom, and just chilled for about half an hour. It worked, I'm fine, but damn. I might see where I can scare up a tennis ball or golf ball or something to keep in my car if this happens again. On top of all of that, my hip adductors (inner-thigh muscles, they pull your legs together) are sore AF because I just unlocked the scissor kick on Ring Fit, and it's the most powerful attack I have so of course I used it a bunch of times while I was playing yesterday. Abductors are fine though (the ones that pull your legs apart), I don't know what that says about me, LMAO.6 -
@goal06082021 Goodness! It certainly sounds like you had a time of it! Back in the day I also suffered from plantar fasciitis so I know firsthand how painful it can be. Luckily, it "heeled" and I haven't had an issue with it for years - I wish you success with it and that it heals in the near future.
I've always been fascinated with the Ring Fit... it seems like a fun way to get a good workout in, though I'm not sure my worn out old body could do it at this point what with my bad hips, knees and lower back but I was thinking it would be great for my 10-year old grandson who has gained some weight during this horrible pandemic!1 -
@AlexandraFindsHerself Hope you are feeling better after the vaccine.
@misplacedmama Nice NSV
@tsokalas2 usually MFP sets calories pretty low 1200 is low for regular height but for those who are shorter it may not be too low.
@alymc2 Nice pictures of your grandchildren. So far there has been a new thread each month thanks to RavenStCloud
@ladychr0nic that is why we log to learn from our mistakes.
@roz0810 welcome back
@BethCW2963 glad you are getting the tools you need. I am not a picky eater but when you limit what you eat you do get pickier. I am really picky about sweets since that is really limited so there are a lot of sweets I don’t eat anymore. It has to be worth the calories.
@holdthefries you are making progress.
@goal06082021 I am usually not one for the banana-oat things but I like the idea of your pancake somehow. I think I will try it. I guess I need to get some bananas. You made your March goal!
@MuttiNM Sorry to hear you Dad isn’t getting much better. I am glad to hear you Mom is improving some. Sorry you have to do their taxes! I hope you get some good news from the Drs. It seems like you are doing well staying steady during this challenging time. Take care. I can get off the ground but I don’t like anyone to see me do it. My son has just read a book on sleep, Why We Sleep. Not only about why it is so important but how we have misconceptions about it in our society. He says the science is really sound. He has issues with sleep. I found this trainer on Youtube who was an athlete who injured herself. She said that many do not develop needed core strength before they start exercise and end up with injuries. I really miss aquafit. It really strengthens the core. I am sure your Yoga helps with that too. I am glad you are getting the vaccine now especially with helping your parents. There are some great benefits to maintaining your weight especially after a significant period of eating at a deficit. You know how to lose when the right time comes. This is all about health.
I got through a lot but not all of the weeks posts. Usually I get on here on Saturday but had to work on bills and taxes instead. It was satisfying since recent changes have meant tax savings. We also went for a small walk in the woods as well. It was a cloudy day but with no rain. I did my meal planning this week going through the weekend and through next week and we got all the groceries we needed except for the bananas I now want for the oatmeal pancake recipe. Looking at the last week calories my weight seems to go down after higher calorie days. So I haven't found that sweet spot yet to lose.
I got exercise in the middle of the week but had some medical tests etc. and took it easy on Thursday and Friday. Today it is raining. However sun is coming out next week so I will plan on some walks Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I will do some strength training later in the week. I really like to get out when we have nice days here.5 -
It's Monday Weigh-in for me; the final one in March! That also means comparing my other measurements to my very beginning stats (as a motivator to keep going).

Chest: 45" ---> 44.25" (-0.75")

Body Fat%: 52% ---> 48.79% (-3.21%)
BMI: 41.6 ---> 38.9
I had totally made peace with not meeting my goal this month, but I guess my body had other ideas?? I've never, ever, EVER had a big loss like that in one week. I know a good chunk of it was water weight. Friday and Saturday, it was as if the flood gates opened. I was in the bathroom. All. The. Time. But still. I'll take it!
Last week, I focused on logging everything and actually measuring all the things, rather than eyeballing my portions. I wanted to see if my target of 2000 calories a day and a macronutrient ratio of 40/30/30 was correct for my activity level, and it apparently is! I'm going to keep at it. (However, if I drop more than 2 lbs next week, I might increase calories. I'm not in a race to lose weight, and I want to keep as much lean body mass as possible.)
I hope everyone has a great Monday (whenever that comes for you)! I may not post a lot, but I read everything. And you ladies have been a huge inspiration for me!!10
