I am eating more mindfully, really focusing on portion control now that I've been inspired by my mom's weight loss. I had lunch out with my daughter yesterday and ate about half my food. Portions at restaurants are far too big anyway. I hope the scale moves in the right direction this week. Friday is my weigh day.9

@JenT304 I was inspired by your Mom's weight loss at such an age by simply watching portions. I have realized that it's not that hard to stay within your calorie allotment if we just stick to per portion information on foods!! If only some of those high calorie foods like sweets and chips didn't taste so darn good!!! And let's face it food manufacturers pull out all the stops to make those "🎆 🧨 fireworks" go off in our mouth/brain when we do have processed treats...I never binge on broccoli or carrots!!!
Anyway, glad you are feeling so positive👍😊7 -

I took my 84 year old mother out for her birthday lunch yesterday. She was noticeably slimmer and I asked her about it. She said, " I eat what I want but I just started controlling my portion size." She has lost 20 lbs in a few months. She does walk but really, not a lot. So I am here to tell you that no matter what your age, you CAN lose weight if you just eat mindfully! I am very inspired by her and really going to focus on HOW much I eat and not so much on WHAT.
I love that...thanks for sharing!!! I really needed to hear that today!!6 -

@Rashmi411 Welcome to our group!! Sounds like you have a great plan.4

I’d love to join as well if I may. My name is Joanne and I’m a Canadian. Wife to my husband and mom to my 3 kids (16, 14.5 and 9 year old on Thursday). I put on menopausal and Covid weight last year of about 20lbs. It blind sighted me when I tried to put on my favorite jeans and they no longer fit after working at home for awhile.

Hi Joanne4 -
Welcome to the new faces! We are a fun and supportive group. I'm Jen, I'm 57 and have been on every kind of diet in the world ever since I turned 50 and menopause killed my ability to effortlessly drop weight. As I said in earlier posts, I am now almost fully focused on portion size. It worked for my 84 year old mother and seems to be working for me though honestly, It has just been since this past Saturday that I am REALLY eating mindfully so it may take some time. Rome wasn't built in a day! Also I've been dutifully wearing my pedometer. I mean from the moment my feet hit the floor in the morning until I go to bed. I think I was under logging my steps when I would put it on after breakfast, after getting dressed etc. Yesterday I had 14,300 steps. That is not too shabby...my goal is 10,000. Of course I spent the afternoon running after my 2 granddaughters so that will burn some calories! I am hoping to lose a minimum of 10 more lbs before my nephews June 19 wedding. That is 8 weeks so I think that is a achievable goal.9
-
@JenT304 - wow, 14,300 steps. I could only dream to reach that in a day! I can barely get in my 5,000 goal as I work full time at a desk job. I'm only able to get my steps in in the morning when I walk my almost 9 year old to school and I sometimes get a walk after work if I don't have to rush home and make dinner (but that's not very often). I think 10lbs before June 19th is achievable as well, I'm rooting for you.
Portion control has never been an issue for me because I've never been a big eater but I guess it was the kinds of food I was eating. I'm also only 5"0' so it doesn't take much to get to my calorie limit per day. I am so much more conscious now of what I'm putting in my body and whether I want to waste the calories. I love a good wine, but now only limit my intake to 1 glass on Saturday night and maybe a Bud Light on Friday night, as it's take out night for us (supporting our local restaurants that are still only able to serve take out for now).
I feel so good this time around with my weight loss, I'm so committed and wish I would have done it sooner. It's amazing how much more energy I have already and I've only lost 12lbs so far since March 4th.
Have a great day everyone!

This weight loss thing can be a tricky thing when you’re in another’s home and eating the foods they eat. I am always appreciative of the money, time, and effort any host puts into making meals when I visit, and so I eat what they eat (mostly) but I do try very hard to watch portion sizes. And, of course, log all food as best as I can.
Well, last night I returned home from a 10 day visit with my daughter and her family (hubby and two kids, 4yo boy and 6mo girl). As I was driving home I was preparing myself for the possibility of gaining a bit, but it turns out I lost half a pound. Yay! Those little ones kept me moving and burning everything I ate!
Now to get back into my routine.
Be well everyone.9 -
@kwgrandma I know what you mean, I logged nearly 5 miles on my pedometer just running after my 2 granddaughters yesterday. I also ate more than I usually do and we made home made ice cream which of course I had to eat. No weight loss today but no gain.8

Excitement doesn’t even begin to define how I feel. I’ve been working SO hard on eliminating unnecessary eating during the day. I can’t believe how many times I have found myself reaching for something to snack on when I’m not even hungry. It really is just a bad habit!
Good luck everyone!10 -
It was another week of fluctuations but I ended up losing about 3 lbs and passing my 50 lbs lost milestone! That is about one third of the weight I am targeting to lose overall. Woot!
I see some great numbers from others on here as well and see that I am not the only one who battles the fluctuations on a daily basis. We got this!

@str82nichelle - congrats on a 20lbs loss - WTG! Must feel so good.
@jailyn3 - WTG for resisting the snacking. I find evenings the worst to resist the snacking. So far so good though.
Today is my youngest daughters 9th birthday. I'll be making schnitzel, spaetzle and asparagus. She requested chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (I will need to have a little piece of course).7 -

I forgot to weigh myself a few times. Anyway the downward trend is nice albeit slow. Running around with the grands plus mindful portion control, seems to be helping. We went out for pizza last night. Normal me would have had 2 slices. Mindful me had 1 (plus 1 bite) and brought the rest home. Little, little changes will add up!

yes, I feel the same when we go to see my dad. He loves meat and I try to cut down. He got colon cancer - from his eating habits mostly it seems but he is fine again, just turned 81, and last year my mum died. I cannot tell him off. He is grown up and he wants to enjoy the time he has and not change his habits anymore. As soon as I enter the house though my new and worthy eating habits are all gone and I grab the salami and the cheese ...6
