I started last year around June at over 270lbs and now weigh 169lbs. I'm 5'10" and work in IT and sit for long periods of time. I lost weight by walking, getting a Garmin watch to count my steps and challenge others, and logging my food into myfitnesspal. People often asked me how I have lost so much and I simply tell this, Eating right, exercising, and being persistent.
Ive included a pic of me at 240lbs from 2017 next to me now at 170lbs. I dont have any pics of me at 270 because I was camera shy.

Thank you all for your kind words and positive encouragement!
What helped me was I didn't look at it like losing x amount of weight, I was just focusing on one small task, like walking around the block. This is what I did, I walked around the block and was pretty winded, my feet, knees, back all hurt, but I rested and healed, and did it again, and again, and again... eventually it got easier and I started doing other things like getting a fitness watch, then logging my food just to see how I was doing. I was horrified to see the amount of calories I was eating that I thought I was OK with and started doing slightly better, and better. I don't really have any hard no's on what I cant eat as long as I can fit it within my calorie\sodium\sugar\carb count for the day. Make the smallest change and just focus on that only, the rest will come later, trust me! Persistence pays off in the end and once you notice your clothes fitting better and or people noticing a change, it will reinvigorate you to do better and work out more, get that fitness watch, start logging food, etc..28 -

Very impressive! I appreciate you sharing your approach- it sounds doable.2

Wonderful loss - well done. I think many guys in similar sedentary jobs will be inspired by you - I am!
I think being persistent is the key. I tend to lose 40ish pounds, get distracted by a holiday or other event and pile it back on.
I would be interested to know more detail about how you lost, whether there were plateaus and, if so, how you dealt with them.

Way to go! Your body must be feeling so much better now that you are moving it more and carrying 100 lbs less.
I’m curious about what you are doing now. Are you incorporating more movement throughout your day or just doing one long walk/exercise session? i.e. Are you getting up from your desk every hour and walking a lap or doing it in chunks?1 -
It is so good to see the men of MFP working toward their goal of a healthier lifestyle. I have several men in my family that I desperately hope and pray will start to take better care of their health before it is too late for them. I know you can't drag anyone to start living a healthier lifestyle (It took me 68 years myself), but I keep hoping that they will see me as an silent example of how good life can be. Wishing you all the best wishes on your weight loss journey. You look marvelous, keep up the good/hard work!2

I was hunting down where to add my new weight and saw your discussion post on the sideline. I am not too familiar with how to navigate the site/app so 30 minutes later, here I am. Yay! but no, all jokes aside your progress motivates me so much!!! I am a second-time bariatric candidate, repeating all the steps. When I restarted I weighed less than I weigh currently, but by holding myself accountable and committing to caring about myself I am down 2 pounds and couldn't be prouder. Thanks for the motivation.5
