I did my monthly weigh in and I'm kinda disappointed in myself. I lost a a total of 2lbs.
I went back and checked my food dairy and had five days were I went over my calories.
Then I checked my exercise diary...ouch. Several days witn no walking due to horribly hot weather and the pool was closed due to filter issues.
Starting today, walking regardless of the weather and a minimum of 45 laps in the pool.
Tomorrow will be a better day.

Vince’s bowling ball came in the mail today. For father’s day I got him a bowling ball and had a picture of Kyle Bush’s race car put on it. So he had to go get it drilled and, of course, had to bowl a few games. Then we went to WalMart. They had cherries for 98 cents/pound. You KNOW I bought some
Thinking of Rori
Diane TN – welcome. Great goals
Took my evening walk and then a shower. Got ready for tomorrow (exercise stuff ready, etc). Now to watch a bit of TV

Didn't make it to the gym today but I did at least go walk my dogs. I made them take turns, it's not the easiest walking two at the same time, so I walked one before cooking and the other while the Alfredo sauce was simmering on low heat. I really think they like their individual time alone with me, lol.
Welcome to the other new ladies! This is a great group and you don't have to worry about the immature chit chat that i've seen on some of these threads.
It seems like it's been unusually hot all over the US, we went to Wisconsin to visit family 3 weeks ago and they said it usually doesn't get that hot until almost August!

Happy July! Thank you Barbie for another positive launch.
Machka: My head was nodding 'yes' as you described your DH's need for you. Brought back memories and a little tear. But I think you are doing an amazing job taking care of him and you. Stay well. (((hugs)))
Rita: My mother was an alcoholic. If not for Al Anon, I would probably not be here today. I went on to become a sponsor for a local AlaTeen group when I was in my 30's as a way of giving back to a program that had saved my life.
Allie: Belated happy birthday. It's YOUR time to get STRONG, mentally and physically. Hope you will feel the call of your condo gym. Exercise is powerful therapy. Just start with baby steps. Then keep going.
I've just returned from 4 days in Santa Barbara, California. Before I left, I saw the orthopedic doc for a check on my fractured left foot (from a fall over a year ago) and my painful left knee. The fracture is better, but there are still some gaps between the broken pieces. I feel 'em. My knees, and I quote the doc "look great for a 65 year old". Well, that was nice to hear. But with all the poking and prodding, it has been hurting more than when I went in. I was prescribed exercises and Voltaren which truly helps the arthritis and worn cartilage pain I experience.
In Santa Barbara I had a tiny room in a boutique hotel in The Funk Zone of town. That is how they have rebranded what used to be the wrong side of the tracks back when I lived in the area. It has been regentrified with wine tasting rooms, artisanal bakeries, high end home decorating stores, and trendy outdoor cafes and restaurants. It's about 3 blocks from the beach, and there are rental bikes easily available. The weather was beautiful and I did a lot of walking. My high school friend came down twice to walk, talk and go out for dinner. I didn't bother to rent a car, and she was more than willing to come get me in her convertible and ride around to see the neighborhood where Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres and Prince Harry and Meghan live. This is where I met my DH back in the early 80's. I was nostalgic, yet detached. Everything has changed, especially since the fires a couple years ago. I also got to visit a fun maritime museum, the weekly farmers market, an art show and a dessert place called "Rori's Artisanal Creamery". Had to try the ice cream and it did not disappoint.
Yesterday, during the foggy early morning, I did scatter a small tin of DH's cremains from Stearns Wharf. Someday I'll be there, too. Today is one month since he passed. The last 60 days have absolutely blown by.
Came home to find that the t-shirt quilt I commissioned arrived. It's beautiful and much larger than I had anticipated. I'd welcome any advice on how best to hang it on the wall.
My dear brother is still dealing with his health issues, but did well on his own while I was away. Now I have to get back to building up my health and fitness. Borrowing Matcha's suggested formula:
STOP: daily glass of wine.
START: kayaking with my niece. We have a date tomorrow.
CONTINUE: Swimming 4x/week.
My word for 2021is FLOW. So doing my best to keep with it.

The new microwave + oven hasn’t arrived yet & we haven’t heard from the dealer about shipping. I am eager to have it done. I don’t know when it will arrive and waiting is no fun.1

Fortunately I watered and it is a white clover yard now so I didn't have to worry about a fire. A number of yards are tinder now because of our drought and high temp. High temps will be back the next few days. 90's plus not as bad as Seatle area.
I plan to call parking police until the quit blocking me out of my garage in the back. These are the ones who had the dog who threatened me so I am choosing not to talk to them directly. She was upset with me because I was not respectful. Respect is earned by actions. I tend to make excuses for others and wait too long to take action.
I admit I have avoided this conflict because other things were in front on the list. The large bottle rocket is what put it to the top.
If I have any converstion with them I will say how would you react if my dog threatened your safety, if I shot a bottle rocket at your yard when I know you have small children and a dog in your yard. (they now have a small dog that does not cause problems.), and I made it impossible for you to park on your property. This is why I chose to have the parking police involved.
Follow the parking rules, refrain from shooting fireworks into my yard, and then I have no problem with you.
I think I would be inclined to sell that house.1 -

Tomorrow Teddy goes to the vet. I hope I can postpone the canine dental to next year. It's not cheap.
I finally made dental and gynecology appointments. That leaves the eye doctor, and dermatologist, and I'm sure I need a mammogram. Maybe a colonoscopy too. I'm turning high maintenance! The awful part is that each appointment spawns three more until my head spins.
Meanwhile, I need to write a story. Something about a building collapsing. Hmmm.

Rori – Flow seems like a very good word.
Margaret - I hope you are able to make progress on courtesy from a neighbor. I think calling the parking police might be helpful. Get advice and learn what you can do to protect your property. Good luck.
We are waiting for new kitchen appliances and can I hardly wait until the new microwave upper & electric oven combination arrives. So far, we haven’t seen it. :ohwell: We are getting things ready so that the appliances can be installed as soon as they arrive. A local company will do the installation and haul the old stuff away. We are eager to have it done and waiting is not easy. :noway:

30-Make a list of the joys in your life (and keep adding to it) -Joe’s positivity and thoughtfulness, good morning puppies, this beautiful place, time with friends.
Whew! Company is such an upheaval! Cleaning frenzy really made the house look better. Routine disrupted. Missed BP a couple of days, even missed a day weighing in on wii. Logging sporadic, filling in with vaguely remembered guesstimates. But visit with K so very worth it. She came all the way from Idaho to visit and wasn’t even scared off by having to sleep in the van since the guest room is now a man cave. Lots of laughter, lots of steps lots of indulgent food and drink, lots of fun!
Wish she could have stayed longer. Relieved to return to my restful rut.
So far behind, will take awhile to catch up with the posts.

Barbara - Hello! Sooooo glad you had a great time with your friend. I would love to come and sleep in your van.
Positive people are such a joy in our lives.
Machka - Good post about emotional abuse. So many people don't recognise what is happening to them, or realise that this is NOT how life should be. We don't have to put up with all this rubbish. You are right, reach out, get help, make that phone call, read a good book about emotional abuse and coercive control. Support from relevant organisations can, as Rori said so well, save your life.
Love to anyone who recognises any of those things.

Jump back July:
1-take a small step to help overcome a problem or worry:
Tracey amazing numbers of spiders (and caterpillars) this year. What helps keep them outside of our home is puffing diatomaceous earth in all the cracks around the foundation. For outside, all I’ve been able to do is sweep, sweep, sweep…
Penny your snoring polar bear sounds like the first time I went camping with Joe. Thought sure it was a cougar…
Only through pg 68 in June, but time to snooze.

Day off + flu shot yesterday = rest day!
But I have done a few things ... laundry, scrubbing the front door, bills, etc. That's next to nothing compared with a usual day.
M in Oz4 -
Good morning! It is Friday! I thought yesterday was-oops. 3 hours of online training last night. Yuck! No time at work to train, therefore, I hold all of our certifications as I am the only one willing to do after work. Old mechanic thinks he knows it all (he knows lots but refreshers never hurt!) Other is my son in law who has 2 teenagers and no time for after work training. 3 advanced courses due by end of month. They weren't available until springtime. Really, like who has time to train then. SMH
Was hoping to catch up on work this weekend, but DH may have other plans.....
Same old same old here.
Have a Blessed day!

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Barbara - Good to see you! Was worried about you--it's seldom we don't see you for nearly a week at a time.
Rori - Glad to see you! So love your hair like that. It sounds like Santa Barbara was a healing journey for you, and I'm so glad. Regarding the hanging of a t-shirt quilt (or any quilt), you want to distribute the weight...A simple cloth tube fastened by machine or hand-sewn across the back of the top of the quilt, with a few inches room on each side, then a dowel of sufficient size to hold the quilt threaded through the sleeve that's been created. You can make it completely invisible. In the spoiler, you'll see a tapestry I created for a local coffee shop/ music venue to display all the band t-shirts from their first two years. I created a sleeve on the very top, as it was always meant to hang from a wall. They threaded through a large metal pipe (to suit the decor) and suspended it with chains from the ceiling. Unfortunately, the pandemic shut them down.
Glad it's Friday--no farmer's market tomorrow, as it's the holiday weekend here. Not looking forward to the noise on the 4th--one of the few true drawbacks of living right in the middle of a very small town is that city hall and the city park, which is where they set them off, are only a few hundred yards away. Ah well - only happens at New Year and July 4th. Could be worse.
Talking to my doctor this afternoon - do love the fact that I can get a phone appointment so much easier than an in-person one. Want to go over all the meds--I'm taking a lot of them right now, and I want to make sure there are no interactions. For instance, the last antibiotic they put me on interacts with the anti-diarrhea medication they had me on, and had a high incidence of shingles in women who take both. The docs never said a word, I had to look it up myself, take myself off the Imodium for the two weeks I was on the antibiotics.
Need to go across the river this morning to Fort Smith and pick up a few bottles of wine. We're a dry county on this side of the river, no alcohol sales except in restaurants.
Also want to be at the hair salon at noon to get a cut--the hairdresser who does it best will be there at noon, want to be her first one in the chair. Then home for a shower, then the doctor appointment.
Busiest day I've had in a while!
Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa4 -

Good morning all! Happy Friday! Doing the Friday dance, here! I had a new toddler join my crew this week. He is actually the nephew of one of my former childcare kids. He is settling in okay. Just turned two and never been in a childcare setting. SO...he has had a busy week of learning lots of new things (social skills being the most important, right now). He is a first child/only child and has obviously "ran the roost" at home (as many first/only kids tend to do). But within the first couple of days he learned to drink from a regular cup, learned to sit at the table for meals, learned to lie still during diaper changes, and learned to come when I call his name. All in all...that is a good two days of learning! His mom informed me that their pediatrician referred them to a speech/behavior analyst and they labeled him as "on the spectrum". *groan* I by no means want to disregard the speech/behavior profession or the children that are on the spectrum; but it really grinds my gears when they put that label on a 24 month old. Yes, he is always moving; but he is two. Yes, is loud and emits squeals at times; he is two. Yes, he loves to roll and spin things; he is two. No, he isn't talking yet; but he is two (and babbles constantly). In the week that I have been with him, I have seen him do all of those things listed above. But I have also seen him sit and focus on a toy/book for a while. I have seen him quiet, I have watched him learn, I have watched him play and do other things that don't involve spinning/rolling. I have watched ALL of my kiddos spin and roll toys/themselves because they are toddlers. I wish people could just let their kids do things in their own time. I really think social media is quite damaging for those families with kiddos that are not early talkers/doers. Sorry, rant over. lol It has been an interesting week back to work, after my vacay. I actually got the call on Monday, asking if I had an opening for this child. Mom came and picked up paperwork that night and child was with me beginning Tuesday morning! That fast!
Another interesting thing happened in my extended family. My older brother's family (parents of Ben and Ethan, high school track stars) has a realtor friend who asked if he could show a couple their home. Apparently this couple is looking for a home and was hesitant to buy a "fixer upper", so realtor friend wanted to show my brother's home so that this couple could see what could be accomplished by ordinary people. ANYWAY...the couple went through the house and then asked my brother and his wife if they would be willing to sell! The couple offered them $280k for the house! This is a house built in the 20s or 30s on a small lot in the city. My brother and his wife bought it two years ago for $96k and put $10k worth of work/improvements. SO... they accepted the offer! They live in the next town over from me. Another little lakeside summer resort/type town. Hmmm...makes me think I should have our home appraised again...
Happy belated birthday, Allie!
Rori, Rita, Barbara, Penny- Always great to hear your voices! Sending lots of love to you all!
Pip- How was the double birthday bash? I saw the pics; did I miss the details?
Welcome to all of the new ladies!

Yo peeps. Someone asked me why am I running at a slow pace for a short distance. I am pretty confident that I can do 5 or 10 miles in my usual pace but if I did after not consistently running, I would kill myself. My calves would be screaming. Doing it this way, I’m easing into it and I won’t feel any pain. My fastest mile in the last few days since I started was a 9.30 min mi just to see how I would feel. With all the walking and riding the spin bike one would think there shouldn’t be a big problem, but the muscles are used with different intensity so it does make a difference, at least for me it does.
I usually have been only weighing myself after my workouts. I’ve decided to weigh in the morning and after workouts. Just like I thought, I loose 2-3 lbs after the workout for the day. crazy..
We r going to b spending more $$$. Along with redoing the front patio, we were going to do cement stamping but I decided to do pavers instead. There are pipes underneath in the ground and if we or the condo association needed to get to them they would have to break up the cement that we paid for and would have to do it again. We are also going to color and paint the back cement patio with epoxy. Kirby does like how dull the kitchen floor is so we are going to epoxy the kitchen floor, gotta think about the colors that I want for all these areas. And finally, gonna epoxy the garage floor, also paint and redo the ceiling. All this will cost about 6-7k. It will be done when we go to Washington for the MS ride so when we live the car and Bette will b out of the garage and when we come back it will b nice and fresh. We won’t have to move anything either, bonus.
Speaking of the MS ride, I’ve stayed stagnant with my donation raiding, still at $245. Since I am not working, I don’t have access to my work contacts anymore, oh well2 -

It went well. Kirby and I went dancing and as usual yogi followed along , he was with us the whole song, moving around like he was dancing, it was so cute, I didn’t have my phone to record it tho. He didn’t feel like it was his bday celebration cuz it wasn’t his bday even tho I got my sis to get him his favorite cake, oh well the thought was there.
I ordered this gift and had it sent to her work but it didn’t get delivered in time. I asked him if he wanted his gift now or wait til his actual bday, he wants to wait, so I have it. I think he’ll like it.9 -
Well we made it to Tromsø. My worst moment was when we'd just come to the departure hall and I met a good friend from choir who was flying south for a family wedding. She's easily moved so we set each other off. Many tears were shed, but fortunately they were the silent kind.
The flight was uneventful. Thick clouds starting well below the mountaintops so there was no waving goodbye to familiar shorelines or peaks. I drowned my sorrows in a game on my cell phone the entire 1½ hour flight.
We went through passport control and waited for our luggage. Nothing happened for a lo-o-o-ong time. Then a man appeared in the hole in the wall where the luggage carousel comes through. He opened the sliding hatch manually. Bad sign.
A few minutes later, another man in a neon yellow vest appeared with a cell phone in one hand and a key in the other. He inserted the key into the locks of three different emergency buttons along the carousel, then left, still holding his cell phone close to his ear, no doubt to protect himself from having to talk to anyone.
More time went by. About half an hour after we landed, the hatch for special luggage opened and a guy climbed through. He announced that it wasn't going to be easy for any of us, but they would feed all the luggage through that single hole so people could pick their bags up.
Imagine the chaos! About 150 passengers with an average of a suitcase each, many of them worried about missing connections, searching desperately for their luggage amids a scrimmage of baggage handlers, other passengers, crying children, dogs, and what have you. Since we had eight pieces of luggage to find, we were among the last people out. On the other hand, we didn't have to make any connections.
It took another half hour before we were through the taxi queue and had secured the two taxis needed to get us and all our stuff to our apartment.
But now we're here. We've been in touch with the shippers and expect them to deliver the three pallets of stuff we send by boat last week. Then we plan to leave everything heaped in the guest room and head out to the island for some much needed R&R.
AND NOW IT'S ALL HERE! There were three guys from the shippers: one wiry, one burly, and one very young and enthusiastic. They gladly helped us old folks carry half a ton of stuff up three flights of stairs.
So we'll be on our way out to the island shortly. Gotta run!

Rainy Friday Morning in Georgia and the grass loves it!
Trucker ~ Welcome back and hope you will keep visiting.
Welcome also to all ladies who are visiting! We are a supportive bunch of mostly over 50's.
Two Events Today:
My son is bringing over his two gigantic dogs for us to keep for a week while they go on vacation. One is as big as a Great Dane and the other is part Lab/Rottweiler. They both love attention and love staying inside. But, we do have a fenced in back yard so they can go out to do their business. I would not dream of trying to walk either one.
The other is I have an appointment at noon to have one eye nodule removed. I am not looking forward to it and just hope it goes well. The other eye will be done in August. Then hopefully I can have cataract surgery in Sept/Oct.

The ship, The Spirit of Discovery, that we are cruising on next year,, is currently in Falmouth. They have never had a ship of that size in port. Must have been a ticklish operation getting it tugged through the shallow, narrow channels! It's the ship's first excursion since covid. It was meant to go to Scotland and cruise the Norwegian fjords, but that is banned, so they've ended up in western England!
One of the double windows in the front will be our cabin next June to Iceland. The March trip, we are at the back.
Great to see it back in action! I bet the send off, from Tilbury, was tearful.
One can get quite emotional about a ship! Tracey, I do get very good value from our cruises as I look forward to them all year.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx
