Less Alcohol ~ JULY 2021 ~ One Day At A Time

From today's Beck Diet Solution post:
"Thursday Think Tip: Have you checked in lately with ways in which all-or-nothing thinking might be impacting you? It's always good to look for and check this type of thinking so you don't buy into the notion that either it's a 60-minute walk or no walk, or that it's either a "perfect" eating day or a failure, or that it's either zero desserts a day or way too many. There is (almost always) a HUGE middle ground. "
I think many of us can relate with our journey for Less Alcohol One Day At A Time as well.
Drink as many as I want on the weekend vs AF. The middle ground could be to limit our drinks to 1 or 2 per day on the weekend. Drink every day of the week or only on weekends or not at all. So many options to determine what is right for each individual. No one answer fits all. There is (almost always) a HUGE middle ground.

AF today. One day closer to more AF days than drinks days this month.
Goal to end month with more AF days than drinking days. No plans to drink the rest of this week.

Started the month with 8 of 9 days drinking so making progress!
@vvlucky I'm not really sure what my strategy is, but my issue with drinking is that it has just been part of my daily routine after a long day of work. I am starting to cut back on my work (hired someone to replace me) so I think part of it is just not being so wiped out and stressed at the end of the day. I don't have an issue of excessive drinking (other than on the very rare occasion), but I would have a drink or 2 daily. I just don't want that to be who I am anymore. My husband doesn't drink so there is really no reason for me to drink alone. I have been happily drinking San Pellegrino and Diet Cranberry in the evening. Good luck with your goals!7 -
AF last night, but I was starving and ate too much too late at night. Gak. Weight is up, too. 😠
Had my sparkling pink lemonade and Pelligrino in a wine glass because someone put away my cute martini glass way up high and I didn’t want to deal with hauling over a chair to get it. Well, the glass matters! In a martini glass, I can sip that drink and enjoy it, like a non alcoholic Cosmo. In a wine glass? It felt like drinking sweet wine, which I don’t care for. Amazing how the glass impacted my enjoyment of the same drink!!!7 -
67 AF days left to go. Agree with the comments about all-or-none thinking. And the cool glassware ideas....
Today I am working on better addressing my work stress. I don't like who I have become.
My management techniques have been bad. If it's not alcohol, it's chocolate, if not chocolate, it's tortilla chips. Looking back, these are really my top 3 stress management tools AND it's never one itty bitty piece. It's all of it, the whole bag, the whole large candy bar (think Cadbury Fruit and Nut size), or a whole bottle of prosecco, incorrectly justified because gee, the alcohol % is "not so high".
I didn't drink this past week so been hitting the junk...
I'll try today to stop the desk snacking and hold myself accountable. Glass of water every 2 hours...and I'll pick up blueberries and strawberries to have on hand.6 -
My usual goal, 16-20 AF for the month. This is sustainable long term for me.
Monday July 12 - AF - Time to rack up some AF days.
Tuesday July 13 - AF - Back to day shifts tomorrow after 2 evening shifts in a row. Body is a bit out of whack as is my eating schedule.
Wednesday July 14 - AF - Into another heatwave here, but not as intense as the last one. I was working day shift at the restaurant, so it was nice and cool in there.
Thursday July 15 - Drinks. Started with a mini champagne out of a 3-pack, then had 2 more drinks.
Rolling total - 7 AF days out of 15 days4 -
Steak night with red wine tonight.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!5 -
Just a quick check-in... I managed to get 6 AF days in a row! I cannot remember the last time I did that.
Bowling night, going to allow myself 1 shot & 1 spiked seltzer.
Have a great night/day y'all!7 -
Hello everyone.
Great to see you back with us getting accountability @looneycatblue.
@lilylady3k that stemmed glass is the bomb. LOVE IT.
Wonderful picture @lmlmrn of you and your Sis. Any clue where you will end up?
Those days are getting checked off fast and furious @globalhiker.
I was away for a day and a half. Wednesday night we took off and since I didn't have to drive home I indulged in alcohol. Yup more than my 2 drink goal , but not a stupid amount and no hangover. Husband called it "blowing out the cobwebs"......whatever that means.
AF Thursday and tonight, glad to be back home and back on track.5 -
@lilylady3k that stemmed glass is the bomb. LOVE IT.

Alright it is about time we ALL show our favorite drinking glass. @Womona that means you have to drag that chair over to that cabinet to get it out(LOL).
Did I miss a new post(er)? Feeling like a Walmart greeter that turned my back for a second and let a person walk past me without me saying HELLO.
12-Af
4-A
Three times as many non alcohol days compared to drink days. A new way for me to look at numbers.
Now to go take a photo of my favorite stemmed glass. 🍸🍹🥂🍷

@Lilylady3k Is it recommend to walk softly when carrying an alligator?6 -
Has anyone tried Naltrexone? The NYTimes had an article about RIA Health, which is an online support group that prescribes this. I'm just not hacking it with will power and even if I have an AF day, it lasts only one day. I succumb to evening cravings. I have read some quit lit etc... and am in therapy for family problems which preciptated my over drinking. And yet, here I am, not quitting. Not moderating. And I know I should and I want to.
https://riahealth.com/how-it-works/
I'm really thinking of doing it. Apparently they take insurance.
I have! In fact, after seeing the Youtube video by actress Claudia Christian, I seeked (suck???) out a psychiatrist who was familiar. Not sure I gave it a proper Go, but it didn't work. (I'm not sure I 100% WANTED it to work.) Then I read that it's more effective for some blood types than others. It saved her life, so it def works for some people, so I say explore it (including researching side effects, etc.)!!! That's wonderful you're in therapy. Are you comfortable being transparent with your therapist about drinking? My therapist has been monumental in my fight against alcohol as we dig into my past trauma, etc.6 -

HAHA. Guess my writing is not clear. Every time I saw an alligator on the path I picked up my DIL's niece ... the very very small 5 yo little girl. We saw 3 alligators near us like that picture which made me start questioning myself for bringing my DIL and her niece to the park for a hike.5 -
Got a headache this morning. Use to drink wine with no real side affects but not that I've been reducing my alcohol I'm not feeling the effects of it more when I do drink. Tipsy quicker and mornings are a little rougher.
@dawnbgethealthy - Posted that note above on the wrong thread after the wine! LOL

66 AF days to go...planning a trip again. Maybe Moab and southwestern Colorado in early October. The cost of everything looks double from last year. Renting a small RV is sounding fun....5

Great to somewhat catch up after another busy work week! @lmlmrn I'm also living vicariously--have always wanted a Thelma to do this with! Doing well here...so many little unexpected changes come with a booze break.
Went for a wog and kept going. Biggest cemetery I've ever been to. Took off my shoes to "ground." Will explain later. Sure glad I didn't live 100 years ago--almost all the women's tombstones listed their name followed by "Wife of..." I hope they're not anyone's anything and raising Hell in the Afterlife. That's an odd saying. If you raise Hell high enough, does it run into Heaven? And no, @MissMay I haven't had my gummy yet today.
Neighbors across the street planted lots of wildflowers all along the road which are starting to bloom, so I'll have an endlessly full vase all summer when not at the cabin.

Only one glass of wine last night! Going to celebrate my 24th anniversary with hubby with dinner tonight, but I only want one drink.
Very thwarted for going on my boat with the wind speeds too high and the freaking thunderstorms. I have to find a more inland marina so I can actually go sailing on her! So frustrated. We are trying for tomorrow afternoon.6 -

So this is one of my favourite glasses. I bought it in Bucerias and paid like 40 bucks for it. Hand made, so beautiful and heavy.
This is blended iced coffee in it in the morning:
I will post another photo of it empty later, which makes it look quite different.

@Lilylady3k
We are so close in age. I became intolerant of wine just over a year ago. Our bodies do change, and yes, part of it is likely from starting to cut down and then we feel the effects more.5 -

Saturday July 17 - Drinks, 2 1/2 (1/2 a can of Ginsmash from the fridge). I hadn't intended to have drinks today. I went for an early morning trail, and then worked my butt off in the yard/garden all day. I didn't even think about it, just grabbed the ginsmash and an iced glass from the freezer and sat on the shaded front porch sweat still dripping down. I might not be trying hard enough for the AF days this month yet.

4 glasses of wine last night. This weekend has been mentally tough. DH is really pushing to move away as he retires. I want to stay within 5 hr drive of the kids while he wants to move out of state or even Europe ... far far away. This has been an ongoing discussion all of 2021 but it is starting to get more real as he could decide to retire in August or December this year instead of waiting 2 more years when he is 62. So I've been cleaning out the house anticipating that there is no way I can take all this with us that we've collected or everything that is stored in a huge walk-in attic. The idea of moving elsewhere away from the kids and all the community I’ve built up over the past 30 years in Houston is starting to stress me out. He is also pushing for me to sell the camp next to my mom and distance ourselves more from family. Even more so as we anticipate a grandchild in December ... he feels like he is getting pigeon holed here.
His parents passed away back in the early 80s & 90s and his brothers & sisters never call or invite us over ... I keep in touch with our nieces that live in Houston and his older brother that lives here (never married and we are his go to for medical as well). But it is always us trying to reach out to his family so he is done with that. My family mom, sister and brother call almost daily and we have to deal with my mom and my sister's medical issues and my brother's financial issues (I've bailed him out of foreclosure 4x) and my mom's financial issues since social security is not enough for her to live on. They don't have anyone else to look after them and it all falls back on me.
Drinking more, not paying attention to the meal planning, not sleeping well (dreams of what if) and in general riddled with anxiety have kicked into high gear this weekend.
7/16 - 3 wine
7/17 - 4 wine

@dawnbgethealthy - Love your glass! My purple & yellow glass will go with me wherever I end up moving LOL5

Been wanting to cut back so glad I found this thread. Right now just aiming for 5 AF days per week. I have NEVER women up and regretted not drinking the night before, so I'm keeping that in mind.10
