Less Alcohol ~ JULY 2021 ~ One Day At A Time

My usual goal, 16-20 AF for the month. This is sustainable long term for me.
Wednesday July 07 - Drinks. I had intended to be AF. After work and a little shopping we got a heavy rain storm which was so lovely and needed. I was sitting on my front covered porch enjoying it, and then decided that I would like to have drinks while I was sitting there. Of course up an entire pound in the morning, that is how it goes.
Thursday July 08 - AF - Of course I felt like having drinks. I put a Piccolo (4oz) champagne (well, Freixenet) into the fridge. I am getting my second Covid Immunization after work tomorrow, and I have Saturday and Sunday off.
Friday July 09 - Drinks. I did not have my mini champagne (comes in a 3 pack of 100ml bottles) rather started with a frozen Mike's blue. Maybe I will have some champagne 2 weeks after to celebrate being 100% protected. I am off of work now until 5pm on Monday. Not sure if I will have more drinks or not. Willpower has been better.
Saturday July 10 - Drinks, 1/2 can Gin Smash and 2 other drinks. So weird to have days off after months of 5 jobs. I will gain my equilibrium shortly.
Rolling total - 4 AF days out of 10 days4 -
This is exactly what I was hoping to find when I renewed my commitment to getting fit, losing weight, and, of course, cutting down on my wine consumption.6

I'm still here lurking. Ended June and started July with drinks most days. Started over with AF day 1 yesterday. Running total for month of July:
AF 2 days
Drinks 9 days
@globalhiker What part of the valley are you in? We have a home in NE Mesa (not far from Usery Regional Park.) Our home lost power for a few hours.5 -
AF this evening … Fever Tree Sparkling Grapefruit (non-alcoholic) while DH has wine.

@MissMay I love your beautiful plantings! What a treat.
Very proud of myself- I, for once, stuck to my drinking plan this past week! AF M-Thurs, and only one drink each day on the weekend. I did it!!!!! And you know what? I wanted to keep to my plan more than I wanted that second drink.7 -
Won our couples golf match and stayed AF at the dinner afterwards. Win-Win.
July
AF - 3

Sunday July 11 - Drinks. I had a fabulous day today. The first time back on a trail in months because I finally had time. I went nice and early to avoid the heat. I had barely missed a single day on one trail or another in years. I took photos of the wildflowers that we get around these parts, I will post some later. After that I got a tonne accomplished in my garden/yard. Maybe tomorrow I will feel like cutting back on eating and cutting back on drinking. I simply wasn't interested in that at all today. Back to work for 5 starting at 5pm tomorrow. Planning on a good hike in the morning.

WELCOME @loreleishannon. Good choice! Even cutting back one glass of wine a few times a week is a huge win. Great to have ypu joining us.
@Womona FANTASTIC job sticking to your plan. So happy and proud of you to.
@dawnbgethealthy wonderful you were able to get out for a hike. I am sure you will still meet your goals for this month, you have a lot of drive.
@GiveHerGrace great news on your AF dinner and the couples golf win!
@Lilylady3k THOSE MUSHROOMS! I checked out the recipe link and YOURS look better than any of their pictures. I am now going to have to make them. Thank you - thank you for that. And beautiful glass of non alcohol drink in your picture.
Thanks for the nice comments on my photos everyone. Oh sure yesterday a ton of lilies decided to open after I had put their netting back on them. Guess they were shy.
AF on Sunday.
2 Heinekin00, Not sure if it is the heat with drinking those or what. But they seem to make me feel kinda bloated. I HATE bloated, so they may have to disappear and I go back to my iced tea mocktails.
START THIS FRESH MONDAY OFF ON A GOOD NOTE!

@MissMay Beautiful flower arrangement! Brightened my morning.3

71 AF days to go. I'm finding it easy not drinking for a stretch but only if I "don't" diet at the same time. It seems as soon as I start dieting, deprivation and cravings hit. Trying for balance this time and just focusing on eating healthy foods and less quantity. Maybe I can psych myself out this time.
@GiveherGrace, how nice we are neighbors then....I'm in Las Sendas. Two years ago in July of course, we lost power for about 24 hours of course a day of 115 with humidity. The house temp inside jumped to 99 quick. Our first solution was hanging out in the pool but we could only last in there for so long. We adapted and just drove to the nearest place with power which back then was Texas Roadhouse somewhere in south Gilbert and we hung out there until they kicked us out.
Hi @loreleishannon this is a great group. And lots of talent might I add, artists, master gardeners, photographers, cooks, you name it. Best of luck with your goals.3 -
@Lilylady3k, the Fevertree ginger flavor is nice. I found a Kroger club soda that has a bit of sodium in it and more fizz than the typical seltzers, so now I just add cranberry "for color" and drink that. Who knew there was a difference amongst seltzer water brands. Pellegrino doubled in price so it's off my radar.
@Womona nice work hitting your goals! Nice to start a new week "on a roll" already...
@dawnbgethealthy was it really 5 jobs? Wow. Is Italy still on your radar, maybe for next year? Me, I am powering out with work. I need a solid vacation, having gone straight from Covid seclusion to work with no "real" vacation....but I will hang in a bit longer and convince myself each day that it's "travel money" . Canada doesn't look like it will open for us by September but if it suddenly does, I'll be the first one on that Westjet plane.
Hope everyone has an enjoyable Monday....6 -
Hello to all this morning (for me)
I hope on the big-ole plane this morning for step one in the road trip. Tomorrow we will rise early, drive to visit niece, then south to visit my daughter and family after that into KY. From there who knows! I have not been diligent about being AF this past week, just gave myself permission. Maybe because I know I will be AF the entire trip??? Any way I would only have 1.5 sometimes 2 small ones that I made last for hours. Before they would be gone in less than an hour.
Thank you to everyone who posted all those lovely pictures of flowers and food....what a combination eh?
I will check in when I am able, I am not good using my tablet8 -
@globalhiker - Thanks for the thought about different seltzers. We have an HEB brand of diet tonic that is not too bad and is low price. I have ruby Ocean Spray red grapefruit juice and cranberry juice in my fridge ... both are nice to add to a fizzy water or tonic. I have Kroger's here and not tried their brand yet.

@globalhiker We are in Mountain Bridge (just south of McKellips). We have played Las Sendas (tough course!) and eaten at your restaurant before. What a beautiful neighborhood you live in. We hike most days of the week over at Usery when we are in AZ. The large Ocotillo in our front yard went down with the Saturday night storm. I am hoping the landscaper can save it.
@MissMay gorgeous flowers! FYI - I had 2 Heineken 0.0s one night and although I enjoyed the taste I also was very bloated. Glad it wasn't just me!5 -
A wink to @mainelylisa
So technically, this was on the side of the road:
The only way around this lake is to end up on a paved road
Appealing to your sense of humour. : - )
Many of those would look great in a vase!6 -
1 glass of wine this evening

AF again today - hoping to end the month with more AF than drinking days.
AF - 4 (3 consecutive days starting 7/10)
Drinks -88 -
My usual goal, 16-20 AF for the month. This is sustainable long term for me.
Monday July 12 - AF - Time to rack up some AF days.
Rolling total - 5 AF days out of 12 days6 -
@globalhiker
Oh, I hope that the border opens up before that!
I was thinking of you today when I was out meandering some trails.
My guitar player Fred promised to take you on some more challenging ones than I normally do when you come up. He and his buddies are rock climbers, but he lives in Kimberley and knows all of the trails, probably because he is 71 so has had time to try them all : - )
So Westjet flies out of AZ? That is cool, I knew that Air Canada did.
Yes yes, keep racking up that travel money.
As for Italy, I will need to be in a position to be able to take a month off, so maybe in a few years.
I was thinking about Roatan in September, and if travel like that still isn't happening for my birthday I will pick a nice spot not too far away from here like I did last year hiking in Blairmore.
I was indeed working 5 jobs. I was exhausted, but needed the coin. I am going to coast for a few weeks with the restaurant and Foster Grant then might have to pick up an additional something else.
Really nice to be getting into my garden : - )7 -
And on to Tuesday we go...............
@GiveHerGrace good outlook for that goal of more AF days, than A days in July. Even if you reach 16/15 it is a start.
When I was starting out I tried different combinations of setting goals because just saying I wasn't drinking anymore was not on the agenda.
This one was cool to do. Because playing a numbers game was the key to this win.
I stated out the month on the 1st day with A.
Then on the 2nd I was AF.
To follow the rules I needed to add 1 AF day each time I was not having alcohol. So it would look like this for my accountability-
Day 1 - A
Day 2 - AF
Day 3 - A
Days 4,5 - AF
Day 6 - A
Days 7,8,9 - AF
Day 10 - A
Days 11,12,13,14 - AF
and so on
By the time I got to 7 days straight of AF I felt so accomplished. The great thing was knowing I had those consecutive days to be AF no matter what came up in my life showed me CONTROL. I had it in myself to not go to alcohol because I was happy, sad, bored, angry, getting together with friends, all the reasons we claim we need alcohol.
That is it for my daily ramble.
AF yesterday
9 out of 128 -
@dawnbgethealthy I need a laugh button for your photos because that is a good one on Lisa. LOL
Have fun @lmlmrn. Hope your flight was smooth.
One and done for @Lilylady3k yesterday. Woo hoo
High fives to everyone else!4 -
@MissMay - Thanks for the suggestion of your game ... I copied it down for inspiration maybe later down the road.
Yes I was proud last night to pour myself 1 glass of wine and set it aside before dinner. Toyed with the idea of AF but liked the red wine he opened. Told DH that I was only having the one and would wait until we were eating. He drank the rest of the bottle then scored bourbon & 7up (6-8 drinks is my guess counting cans of soda. I made the decision to not drink more and I'm glad for that decision today. Heading out to Brazos Bend State Park for a hike this morning with my daughter-in-law and her 5 yo niece that is staying with my son & DIL for 3 weeks this summer while her single mom works.
I'm planning an AF evening since DH will be at a meeting tonight.6 -
Added these two GORGEOUS pink lilies to my bouquet from Sunday night.

70 AF days left....trying to stay positive, busy, distracted and away from the chip bag. I broke down yesterday and bought a bag and away I went power snacking. Ugh.
@GiveHerGrace it is a small, small world!
@dawnbgethealthy looking forward to visiting and meeting your friends....and wow Roatan looks pretty

7 days AF now
Enjoy your Tuesday guys and gals.9 -
Its national french fry day...so if course we had to have fries8
-
That is a fantastic streak @Stockholm_Andy.5
-
@lmlmrn - I had sweet potato fries for lunch! But I can't blame it on the national French fry day.
I'm exhausted after hiking with a 5 year old in Brazos Bend State Park. Ran across an alligator that required me to walk softly and carry her since my daughter-in-law is pregnant and not suppose to pick up her niece (visiting for a couple of weeks). Also took them to a neighborhood water park after the little girl's nap. So I'm exhausted! BUT I'm AF ... sipping flavored coffee this evening.

2 Michelob Ultra after golf with the ladies. Plan no more drinks this week.
Goal to end the month with more AF than drinking days.
