I feel like I've been giving up on myself with the unhealthy choices I've made and saying that tells me i need to change my perspective and choices. I too have realized i cannot bring snacks such as chips, ice cream, chocolate or pop into the house and think i can control my portions. I can't. Garbage in, garbage stays in..... as fat, self doubt, pity, guilt and poor health. Time to change my ways.
Just let it be known that you are not by yourself on this journey. Keep in touch with the MFP community. The support has helped me a lot.2 -
Go you! Your list resonates with me also - thanks for posting1

Good for you!!!! Kuddos to you, God bless you!!!1

Great points. I feel like I have had to stop comparing myself to others. Weight loss is a very individual thing, based on a multitude of factors. I have one friend who loses weight incredibly easily. That's not me, and it's frustrating. So I decided I needed to focus on doing the things that are right for me, and know that this is a lifestyle change and I'm in it for the long haul. Though I'm not losing weight as quickly as I would like (an often times unrealistic expectation on my part) I feel and look healthier and I'm grateful for the weight I have already lost.18

100%! I heard a podcaster recommend that when you get hard on yourself, think back to yourself pre-life changes. What would the before-times you think of the progress you've made?
"Before times me" would be freaking blown away by the progress I've made. The "now me" feels like its not fast enough. Sometimes its all about perspective.

I love this! Excellent advice that we all need and from a real person who really did it. Bravo.2

yes I had to stop thinking about what people said, someone told me why lose the weight, you will just gain it back. This really made me mad so I think it motivated me to prove him wrong.5

You go, girl. Use whatever you can for motivation.2 -
I am adopting the mindset of "getting healthy" instead of "losing weight". It may be a play on words, but for me one is a negative thought and the other is positive.11

For me it was ignoring the guys that were CICO but would eat ramen noodles and ice cream and tell me IIFYM bro! I had skinny fat problems, I had all visceral fat, and it was a sign that my doctor told me was early onset Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Blood tests confirmed that if I kept up eating sugars and carbs I was headed for a diabetic coma. For me there was no room for carbs and sugars and cheat meals, and a lot of people didn't understand that because it didn't affect them, they didn't have diabetes. I didn't switch to keto because it was the in thing, I literally couldn't eat more than 10 grams of carbs in a meal without passing out on my couch afterward for two to three hours. People tried to downplay the seriousness of the condition, and every time I would lose some weight they would tell me that I could have lost twice as much as I did if I just ate 30-40% carbs in my macros. Eventually I had to block a lot of "fitness gurus" that just had an axe to grind about keto or low carb diets, and I only recommend them to people like me, who are knocking on death's door and need help. So for me it was 100% cutting the carbs, and that made a lot of people mad and scared because I was dropping weight without killing myself in the gym or counting my calories everyday, and that went against everything they'd ever been taught. If you don't have serious medical problems, if you aren't a candidate for diabetes or heart disease then relax, eat your ice cream and ramen noodles, you'll be fine, but as for me... I had to change.15

This was so inspirational and what I needed to hear right now. Thank you!2

Congratulations on your weight loss. I have to admit, that is my list. I would add - get rid of the negative people in your life. I have had "friends" that would try to sabotage my weight loss journey. I have to remind myself that I am not weak and that I can do anything. I remind myself that the weight didn't come on overnight and it won't come off overnight and that this is a journey that is part of my life. I restarted my weight loss journey on January 1st (like always) and so far have lost 15 lbs. I still have another 90 lbs to go, but I know that I can do it.8

Wow -- so encouraging and insightful. Thanks for sharing!!! That really spoke to me when you talk about the "end date". I do that! You have challenged me to rethink somethings.2

Oh my goodness! This is so spot on for me... exactly! I have been thinking about this for the last couple of days and it has really helped me relax about losing. It is amazing that I have released so much weight and I know I can continue dropping more.
Thank you!2 -
Like many others, I needed to read this and make application to myself. I'm on my "lost count" attempt to remedy my weight gain in the past 18 months. Baby steps!3

Thank you for posting your list. It's not only inspiring, but it also reflects how I've struggled and made excuses for far too long.2

Congratulations...on your great progress, an inspiring post and a wonderful attitude!! You will succeed and be happy along the way...change doesn’t have to equal misery. Am sending a friend request 😊2

You absolutely CAN do it!0 -
I can't find the original post that started this thread. Where is it?

I’ve given up thinking I can somehow wing it. ‘Exercise more, watch what I eat, just be sensible’ hasn’t worked so far. Now I’m using cold, hard data and not kidding myself. Calorie counting, weighing, journaling, and adjusting the plan as necessary. I’m basically project-managing my weight loss. But fully accepting it’ll be a life-long project.11

Great post. Great work1

So glad to read this. Thanks so much, the list is so true. Congrats on your weight lost. I started again this month, hoping to lose 100 pds. It will not happen over night so I'll be patient with myself. Thanks again. Good luck with your continued success!3

Congratulations on the progress in your journey! And thank you so much for your first person insight. It’s so down to earth and layman simple, and that’s what makes it so easy to understand and relatable. You are the exact kind of reassurance I needed today!1
