8/4: 3 miles
On the board for August, finally. This week I am working early, so I have to run in the evening. It is just so hot. The humidity is better (usually in the 60-70% range) at that time but temps are still pushing low 90's even if I wait until 7 or so. I am really trying to slow down even more. Last night went ok. I drank a lot more water than I usually do for a 3 mile run and really tried to run at a lower effort. I see a lot fewer people out now than I do the rest of the year.
We are picking my daughter up from camp on Saturday morning. She's been there for 2 weeks and while I'll be happy to have her home, it has been a nice break just me and my husband at home.
Re: the hill. I ran that hill and then decided it will be a good hill repeat workout but definitely will avoid it for most of my runs. It's just too much. There are plenty of other hills around that are at least not that steep.
@quilteryoyo Happy Birthday!!

Almost 10k run for me today - 5.5 to the sea, then 4+ on the harder sand where the waves were coming in, to the beach I put into husband's GPS to drive to. It was beautiful, the whole way (maybe somewhat alarming 1.5k from our meeting point when I realized I was going through a nude beach and was concerned that I had sent my family to the wrong place 😆 - fortunately it was a "normal" beach again by the end). I however, was struggling [again] and wondering if I should drop from that 25k mountain race in 9 days, because running has just felt so hard lately. But when I type out my reasons, it doesn't seem like enough to actually drop. If I can power-hike the whole thing, I should still be within the cutoff. And I love the mountains. I'm probably just tired. It's been a stressful/busy time for me lately.
But back to beautiful...
Not sure why it switched the order of the pictures.12 -
@polskagirl01 Such a beautiful place to run. I totally feel you on the tired/stressful front. If you can hike and still make the cutoff, I say go for it! You may surprise yourself on race day (you're probably better prepared than you feel right now) and you can always enjoy a nice cut-back week after the race to let your body and mind recover from life afterwards.5
-
@polskagirl01 you should give your race a go. It’s a fun opportunity to try and see what your capable of on race day 👍🏻👍🏻3
-
@polskagirl01 when you mentioned the nude beach, then had pics in the spoiler I was like 😳6

Okay I’m starting on getting my act together. I’ve decided to ditch the app I was using for training called 10K runner. So I purchased a training program on the app Final Surge of Jeff Galloway’s 10K training. It will have me trained in time for my 10K race in Phoenix on 10/31. Yesterday was either a rest day or cross training. I chose cross trading with walking. Today was an easy run which included 6 minutes of cadence drills and 4 minutes of acceleration/gliders. It was the total minutes of 30.
August totals:
Running Walking
8/1 6.23. 0
8/2 Rest
8/3 Rest
8/4 0 6.24
8/5 2.31. 0
Total Running 8.54 miles Total walking 6.24 miles
8.54/50 miles I have 41.46 miles left to go for August.
So I’m happy I’m using Jeff Galloway’s program. I like his run/walk/run method. So the weather here in Yuma has been hot. Normally it’s been 90 to 93 degrees at 3:00 am in the morning to run. That’s when it’s at its coolest. Tomorrow is a cross training day so I will walk another 6.2 miles. Thanks to all who are supporting me and even have friended with me. You guys are a total inspiration to me.

Nice run @Scott6255 ! Glad you had cooler weather for another day.
@Zoomie402 Hope the allergy shots work for your daughter and glad you both got out for some exercise.
Nice running @MikeRunsDaily2021 !
@martaindale It is often hard to run in the evenings, especially after a hard day's work. Motivation to just get started seems harder. I'm impressed you run that hill!
@polskagirl01 Beautiful place to run. Laughed about the nude beach. Did they stare at you running in clothes? I hope you can get rested up and enjoy your race.

8/5 – 3.01

Got out late today (like 10:30 am) it was hot, so I did 3 miles and came home. Took Skip last night to drive the bike route for her Tri, we stopped to grab dinner and when we came out my car decided it had no need to power steering ugh. A friend who is a mechanic said it might be a fuse, but hey it was dark and I gotta say I had zero intention of walking to any parts store in that part of town. Called AAA and they towed my sweet SUV away. Talked to my mechanic this morning, and he said he’s so busy it’ll be 3 days before he can look at it. Whatever, did some googling, seems to be a problem with my car and the fix is to replace the steering ring and pinion, so sad. My pupper Champ is also sick, my poor baby he has tracheal bronchitis, he got a shot and lots of meds and hates me.
Happiest of Birthday @quilteryoyo
@polskagirl01 I have scenery envy - @Scott6255 so disappointed.

Happy birthday @quilteryoyo !
Supposed to be a long run, no time, got in 5k on trails though. Nice day. Saw a deer very close to the trail, we didn’t bother her at all.7 -
@skippygirlsmom Sorry about your car. I'm glad Skip was with you. It's scary when those things happen and you are alone. I hope he can get it fixed before 3 days are up. Also sorry about Champ. I hope he gets to feeling better soon.
Way to get out there and do 5K @rheddmobile ! That deer looks like she could care less that you are there.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!2 -
August Goal: 75 Miles

8/3: 5.16 miles
8/4: 4.67 miles
8/5: 5.35 miles
21.68/75 miles completed for August
Today the plan was hill repeats. I think I did alright. The plan was run about 2 miles then run fast up a hill about 400 m then down slowly and repeat 2 times. So 3 in all and then run 1 to 2 miles slowly to cool down. Hal was pleased and I am enjoying doing some speed work.

I got my hair cut this morning and then took mom to the audiologist. One of her hearing aids isn't working, so it is going to be sent in for repairs...again. We stopped an bought take out pizza for lunch. I ate two big pieces.
When I got home, there was not way I could run right away, so I did some computer stuff and tried to take a nap. Tippy woke me up to go outside about the time I got to sleep. Oh well. I did just relax for an hour or so and didn't get up and about until 5:00.
I knew if I was going to run, I needed to get out and get it done. So, I did. It was 82°F, but the humidity was only 45%. Still, once I got going, it felt really hot to me.
Today's plan called for 5 min Zone 1, 5 Min Zone 2, 4x(3 min Zone 4/2 min Zone 1), 5 min Zone 1. I aimed to keep it in zone 1 or 2 for the first 10 minutes and then run hard (by feel) for 3 min/walk 2 min, then run easy. Since I was running on the driveway and running the hills when needed, my hard did not necessarily equate to fast. I estimate my fast paces from the graph to be between 11:30 and 12:00 min/mile - wavering a bit faster or a bit slower in places. My average pace was 14:06 per mile. I guess that's not horrible considering I walked the entire recovery minutes.5 -

Sorry just a quick stop in, read through and liked and hugged but will catch up tomorrow. I had strength training this morning and it was a tough workout. I planned to run after work with a friend so I didn't run before or after the workout while I was at the gym like I usually try to do. My friend wasn't feeling up to running yet (she was bitten by a dog over a week ago on her hip and it's a huge and bad bite), but she wanted to walk while her son was playing a little league game right by the canal trail. So I got there early and did my run first and then walked another 45 minutes with her. Then got home and changed and walked another hour with Stella.
The run did not feel good today. Still a little sore and very awkward feeling. I was debating hiking again this weekend but among other reasons, I really think I could use some more recovery time. It will be good to have a weekend at home too.

My new module came in the mail yesterday so today was the first run with it! Didn't drop at all, no weird figuring required. We're going to have a heat wave but as long as I continue to go out around 5am or so it shouldn't be awful. I'm very impressed with those of you who manage runs in hotter temperatures!5 -
@katharmonic So sorry that your friends had such a bad dog bite. I hope it heals quickly. Good for you for listening to your body and giving it the rest that it needs.
@penguinmama87 Glad your watch is back in working order. I'm impressed by those of you who can get up and out for a run at 5am.2 -

Sunny, mid 60s F with a light wind from the south today. Hip wasn't great, but it was OK to run on.
Summer is supposed to return for next week. I enjoyed the cooler weather.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

Good morning everyone. Did my cross training this morning a nice brisk walk for 6.4 miles or 10K to get the feel how far the 10K is. Did the walk in 1:57 time or 18:00 minute mile. That’s a little slower then on Wednesday but still not bad. Tomorrow I am to do a 30 minute run at long run pace which includes 5 minutes cadence drill and 5 minutes acceleration and gliders. I pretty much can run the 30 minutes with an occasional walk here and there.
8/01 6.23 miles run
8/02 rest
8/03 rest
8/04 6.24 miles walk
8/05 2.31 miles run

Total run 8.54 miles run with 41.46 miles to go.
Total walk 12.67 miles walk ( I didn’t record the distance wanted for August) I’ll have a goal in September when I get my head together.9 -
There was no breeze this morning. It was oppressive out there. With yesterday as a rest day it was a bit of a struggle today. No rhythm. No groove. Lots of walking. Had to stop at home around the half way point (TMI: Between glutening and vacation my poop schedule is all off and twice this week I've had to stop at home during a run LOL) But I got my 6 miles done.

Met a couple of friends for this morning’s 5 am run. Pretty uneventful. Tomorrow night I’m running the Pigeon Forge Midnight 8K Road Race. Assuming I can stay awake that long!
Now that is a hill @martaindale!
Happy (belated) Birthday @quilteryoyo!!!
I think we got your cool front @Scott6255. This morning it was 60F when I ran instead of the 63F it has been all week.
@polskagirl01 – You’ve been doing a lot lately between running, racing and being a tourist - no wonder you are tired. Can you cut back and have more rest next week before your 25K? (Loving all the pictures.)
@skippygirlsmom – Sorry about the car being down and Champ being sick. I hope he is doing better today and the mechanic moves faster!
Did you get those new shoes @tramboman? Do you think they will help your hip issues?
@julieannegannon – Your walking reminded me - Did you catch the speed walker competition in the Olympics last night? They were “walking” a 7:48 minute pace! Unbelievable! And it was a 50k!
