I hope there were no damages.
At least 2 places have lost their roofs - one lost shingles, the other lost the entire roof.
Sheds in backyards are down.
Trees are down.
Roads are closed.
Power is out all over the place - one school is closed because there is no power.

"The weather bureau says Kunanyi/Mount Wellington had wind gusts of 148 kph per hour about 4:00am and Hobart city was buffeted by a maximum gust of 109 kph."
However, at our place, I noticed that one potted plant was on its side, so that's not bad. And I made it to work all right.

Machka, hope you ride your storm out safely!
My soup was a bit unhealthy, but oh so good. Chicken, pasta, homemade broth, check. Then I added some diced tomatoes, and a handful of white beans, and then 2 slices of pepper jack cheese melted in the broth. I then added a hefty spoonful of sour cream. To top it off, I put some slices of brie in the bottom of my ramen bowl!🙃😁💖
That was my only meal today. I also had a piece of my homemade Christmas Crack with coffee. Its like if saltine crackers, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and chocolate chips had an Almond Rocha baby! There's no almonds in there though!

Barbie – I contacted a woman with the Linus Project in Washington state who is across the Columbia River from me. I think there is also a group in the Beaverton OR area. Both are a significant distance from me. I’ll do a bit of research to determine which way to go. Traffic and getting to the right place is worrisome. Your advice is welcome. :flowerforyou:

Katla, The woman who manages the Project Linus Chapter here has made all sorts of arrangements for people to drop off blankets and for her to pick them up in many locations on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas. She may be unusual and especially committed. Have you asked either of the chapters if there are other locations where you can drop off finished blankets?0 -
This is one of the better lists I've seen, especially because it includes taking practical steps.
One of the first things I need to do in order to reduce stress is to determine why I'm stressed ... and then to determine if there is anything I can do about that reason.
So if I am stressed about an assignment or deadline of some sort coming due, the best way to reduce that stress is to do the assignment/finish what's required before the deadline.
If I'm stressed about long-term situations I can't do much about, that's where a lot of the other tips come in.

Regarding Venting
Thank you for saying we can vent here, but unfortunately this is too public and too searchable for me to vent. Everything we type here can be searched for, and found, in Google.
I have 3.5 years worth of things I'd like to say about people and organisations, about my feelings and frustrations, etc. etc. etc.

Kirby asked me when did I start recording my MS virtual miles, I didn’t remember which got me curios. I looked my first ride that I recorded was on April 26 of this year, had I been aware of it earlier I would have started earlier, oh well., I’m not going to reach 1st place and I’m ok with that.2

Barbie - Contacting the two Project Linus leaders is on my todo list. I’m sometimes a slow poke but I am motivated to figure it out.2

I LOVE Christmas crack- I had the recipe for over 20 yrs before I tried it. We were making other candies and had all the ingredients so tried it. Oh my goodness- So simple to make but so good. Hard to stay out of it when I make it- that is why it is just at Christmas and I try and give most of it away to friends1 -

Anyone have any experience with flax seeds? Gonna grind up a tablespoon tomorrow and sprinkle on my cottage cheese and fruit instead of my usual salted nuts. Fingers Xd.
Beth what a great friend and great idea. Will definitely pass it on.
Machka “Sometimes I think I should write it down in a journal (or type it because that's faster) . . . “ made me smile. Typing is my go-to too. Please consider giving it a try, getting those feelings out onto paper can be a relief in a strange way. ((hugs))

RE: Project Linus
When I lived in Akron Ohio I contacted the PL coordinator. Their policy was to deliver the blankets to her home where she would see on the labels and deliver to the local hospitals.
When I arrived here in College Station TX I emailed the local coordinator and she invited me to attend their monthly meeting held at a local sewing store that had a space for them to use. I love the meetings as they turned into a blanket show where we shared all our donations before bundling them up for distribution. They also have several deposit sites..Joann's and Michael's...out in the community. We receive generous amounts of fabric and yarn we is distributed amongst ourselves to create blankets. The small group has continued to meet throughout the pandemic. I have stopped in group meetings and someone in the group will stop by my house each month and pick up my contribution!
Interesting how each chapter is different!

Barbara, flax seeds, chia seeds, and hemp heart seeds are all good for adding nutritional value to your foods. I just made some amazing muffins with grated zucchini and carrot, almond flour, coconut flour, ground flax seed, maple syrup, and a bunch of eggs. I add hemp hearts to oatmeal to up the protein and either flax or chia seeds to smoothies for added fat and fiber.
I had the best smoothie for breakfast. Diced apple, banana cinnamon protein powder, almond milk, nut butter, cinnamon, and lots of ice to make it cold and thick.
I spent yesterday studying my metabolic reboot program. It’s going to be hard. To begin, everybody starts with the same eating plan, which is high on veggies and protein and low on carbs and sugar. We are allowed one starchy carb serving per day, preferably with dinner. It’s ok to have carbs and sugar from fruits and veggies, but no processed foods other than protein powder. As the program progresses, the plan becomes more individualized. I’ve only been logging faithfully for a few days and I know already that I cannot meet my protein goals without adding protein shakes. I just cannot eat that much meat! I will be the first to admit that the added protein stops the cravings. I was also glad to know that ashwaghanda is a recommended supplement. It is really helping me to improve my sleep.2 -

Yeah, the venting has to be vague ... but sometimes it's better than nothing

I plan to contact Joann’s about distribution of blankets. I live about 39 miles each way from the Hillsboro store & 26 miles each way from the Longview store.1

Barbara ... I used to use flaxseed a lot when baking for my older son. He was allergic to eggs and benefited from the fiber content.
Drkatiebug ... good luck with your protein plan! But please be careful and make certain you check your kidney function through blood work with your doctor at some point.
A beautiful day here and I'm hoping someone will help me get outside to sit in the sun for a bit.

Morning ladies
Slept pretty well and fed the poocher, had a spirt of energy so I moved furniture around and vacuumed which is good.. i bought a huge outdoor round dining set with chairs that takes up a huge amount of space that i have put in the den and I think I will take a picture of it and will try and sell it.. its only a couple yrs old and in fantastic shape..
It is beautiful out today and will get some laundry done and get garbage together.3 -
And this morning, the garage freezer is working again. So I carried some food back up from the basement fridge. Some of it thawed and needs to be cooked or tossed. My poor Dad is trying to be helpful but he mostly can't hear, and he only stops to listen to my mother, and she can't remember what's going on enough to give any guidance. Such a mess. But at least nobody is hurt. As long as the thawed stuff doesn't get back into the freezer, and we avoid food poisoning!

Heather-Sorry about your son's accident. How awful. There is a new roundabout in my neighborhood that also has a curb that's difficult to see and I fear I will hit it with my bike one day.
As to your son who is “allergic” to small children, I can relate. I love my nieces and nephews and spend as much time as I can with them when I am visiting, but it does get overwhelming for me and I have to take a step back sometimes and either be alone for a bit or be with adults. That said, if I’m spending a lot time in close quarters with adults (on a liveaboard dive boat, for example), I also have to step back and be alone for a bit.
Tracey-That is so sad about your GS. It’s a difficult position for him, his friend, and for his family trying to decide what to do about it.
Jenn-Wow. What an inconsiderate weasel. We have those here too. When I’m sitting on the boat and my friends are diving, I’ve seen them come within a few feet of where they are under the water and just about to surface. It drives me INSANE.
Machka-Glad you didn’t have more damage from the storm.
The mister is feeling a bit under the weather today. He just went for a COVID test. I highly doubt it’s COVID, but now every time we feel the tiniest bit sick, we assume it must be COVID and rush to get tested. It’s a bit annoying.
I came back from our trip a few pounds heavier, even though it was a very active and the most physically (and emotionally) taxing trip we’ve ever taken. I am constantly hungry. I’m drowning myself in water and exercising. The funny thing is that I seem to lose weight if I’m not exercising, but am just watching my calorie intake. However, I want to exercise, so it’s weird.
Protein Intake: It’s really hard to get as much protein as these plans say in order to lose weight. Protein shakes or supplements are really the only way to do it. I cannot eat that much meat without exceeding my calorie intake significantly.

Phew! What a day!
We had committed to picking the kids up from school, so there was a lot of communication about their new classrooms etc. DH went to the doctor in the morning and was told to go for an X-ray. The place is up by the kids school, so he set off early. Then more text messages about Max's music lesson, so I was delegated for that and DH to get the girls on his own. Poor man. It is a heatwave here and he had to take them to the playground and push them on the swings.
I got Max and we made our way to his home. He had his bike, so I had to find a strong man to carry his bike over the steps of the railway bridge.
Poor son was at home in his study, feeling very sorry for himself. He can't drive, of course, with cracked ribs and a badly broken finger. Cut head. He has contacted a lawyer and is sueing the council. On the Google Street View there is a bollard on the sticking out curb, but his photographs show none now. The neighbour who put out a cone and complained to the council is a witness. 5 accidents. No cone now. It is impossible to see the kerb sticking out into the road. The bike is damaged as well.
DH took this pic of Edie up a tree in the park on the way home.
We did stop at our favourite boutique brewery on the way home, that we haven't been to since covid. It was lovely and felt like a date.
We were glad to be of help.
Love Heather UK xxxxxx
