One of my projects is to organise the bathroom. It is getting out of control. And I've discovered something ...

I have enough lotion to moisturise a crocodile!

But here's the thing: I don't really like the stuff.

I hate lotion on the palms of my hands and just tolerate it on the backs of my hands.
Therefore, I'm not keen on putting it on anywhere else because doing so means that I get it on my hands.

However, I need it on my legs, especially my left leg which had the DVT in 2009. It also didn't help that I burnt my left foot to the bone in 2001. I have post-thrombotic syndrome in that leg so that it swells and the skin darkens and becomes very dry. The treatment recommendations are elevating my legs when possible (I sit with a stool at home), compression stockings (which I use if I'm going to be standing a lot or after runs sometimes), and keeping my leg moisturised so that the skin doesn't develop ulcers.

And I get the idea now and then that I could use lightly scented lotion as a perfume. I rarely use perfume anymore because it's just not the thing to do in an office situation, or on the bus, or in the public in general, but I might get away with lightly scented lotion. So sometimes I'm attracted by a pretty bottle and scent. I use it 3 times ... and it gets on my hands ... and I don't like that ... and I stop using it. Yeah, I know, you'd think I'd remember the next time I'm standing there looking at lotions.

So ... if you've got heaps of a product like lotion, what do you do with it?

Machka - love that table. We have looked into doing some of the resin work, which that, is and it is incredibly expensive.

Heather - I was thinking of getting a new tablet too for my birthday, but I haven’t decided yet. I guess I should get at it, my birthday is Monday.

Has anyone heard of or used Rocketbook? I’m thinking about getting one of them, they are essentially an electronic scribbler. It has 32 pages that can be uploaded to your computer to print out or save, etc. I was thinking that I would use one to hand write the book I want to write for my girls. I am more comfortable that way than sitting up at a computer like I do all day at work.

Julie - I am struggling terribly right now not buying takeout junk food almost daily right now. Funnily enough though I’m actually losing the tiniest bit. I don’t know how.

Katla - for the 3rd booster, here in Alberta, seniors in long term care have to have had their 2nd one 5 months previous. I don’t know if that is everywhere though.

Beth - The teacher had a class discussion about appropriate behaviour today and said she would be keeping her eye out. My GS played with a new friend today. I told my daughter he needs new friends, big ones. 😂
In my opinion it doesn’t show how it’s taking the zero tolerance policy seriously if they aren’t even called aside.
It sounds like you had a beautiful day. I’m happy for you that you had that.

Rebecca - Happy Anniversary, it sounds like a good day barring the headache hope it eases soon.

Machka - One of my goals this year is to use up all of my lotions, soaps and body sprays. My husband buys me a set of some kind every year for Christmas and fills my stocking with that stuff. I am struggling with the lotion too. I keep thinking, I don’t want the mess on my hands too. I used up all of the spray by pouring some in baths. It left a nice scent and emptied bottles. I’ve been using all of the different body washes as both a wash and bubble bath. 😂. I’ve done very well, except the moisturizer.

My granddaughter had her 3rd day of kindergarten today. My daughter received a phone call from her teacher today.

“I got a call from Micki's teacher too. She is apparently a delight to have in class, she's super bubbly and outgoing and loves helping the quieter kids come out of their shells a bit (I think because she's so used to Char)”.

Char is her little bestie, their Mom’s are best friends and these two are 3 months apart. The two sets of “besties” mothers and daughters have frequent sleepovers. Char is incredibly quiet and shy.

I should have taken Monday too since it’s my birthday. I didn’t think that out well.

Tracey, I drank some coffee, (with sugar) and felt better. I think it was mostly heat related. And alcohol.

drKatie – is there a special protein powder you need to use?

    Michele back in NC

I use Truvani plant based protein powder. Sometimes, for a change, I use TruFit whey protein powder, but I mainly stick to plant based. I also use a collagen powder with 20 g of protein per serving. I use either Ancient Nutrition, Garden of Life, or Vital Protein. I follow the recommendations of Katrina Sequenzia, who is the nutrition coach with Healthy Free Life.

I've had the goal to use up all of my lotions, soaps and body sprays for 12 years now!! I think I've got the same amount or more now.

I just recently saw a suggestion to spray or pour perfume on a handkerchief and put it in with the laundry. Apparently it will scent everything in the laundry, but lightly because it does get diluted. Then you take the handkerchief, which will still smell lightly of the perfume, and put it into an underwear drawer or something for a few weeks, and repeat.

I'm thinking I might do that with my perfumes.

I did dribble some in my shampoo at one point but it just seemed to disappear. Then again, maybe that's what I wan!

I have just read some suggestions for lotions:
    https://brightstuffs.com/the-best-alternative-ways-to-use-body-lotion/

    - removing static electricity
    - polishing shoes
    - removing stickers
    - restoring worn suction cups
    - smoothing split ends

There are also some suggestions that you can put it all together into one container rather than several different containers.

Plus, if you Google "crafts with lotion" it appears you can make playdoh and paint with lotion!

I would open up a lot of storage space if I got rid of a bunch of it!!

Machka-You can try donating the lotions to a church. I know that some of them give it to those in need.

I'm not sure that's encouraged with C19 lurking about.

Did a bit of checking and ...

One of the charities says, "For health and safety reasons we cannot accept used makeup or toiletry items".

Another says, "All products must be new, unopened and in date."

We got our first and second vaccinations at Walgreens. I hope to stop in there and find out when we can get another.

We are needed in Virginia in October/ November to care for our grandson while his parents are staying at the hospital. We hope to be there long enough for him to feel safe and comfortable with us.

Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.

Julie (Bananas) ... no, I have never had an ophthalmologist just make a random adjustment based on age. And my glasses are always checked by the doctor and then again by my optometrist. I can't figure out how some of these medical people are allowed to still practice ...

Food Triggers ... I cannot moderate myself with chocolate and peanut butter. Cheese and crackers is another. What will send me way over and ruin the rest of the day is a sour cream fry cake donut with glaze ... well, any donut actually! All attempts at eating right are gone after that! Intermittent Fasting ... in my case a 19-20 hour fast every day with a 4-5 hour window for eating keeps me from doing too much damage.

Kelly ... today we went to the Beyond Van Gogh immersive event. I loved it! But then, I like the arts and once considered myself to be an artist. (Another story for another day). My husband and son went with me ... neither profess to like the arts. My husband, however, said he learned something. My son said he enjoyed it but came home with an aggressive migraine. I'm still calling it a win though. First time I've been out of the house (besides medical appointments) in over two weeks. Sitting in a wheelchair was a bonus for this event ... I could tell my guys were getting antsy standing ... not me! I just soaked it all in. Beautiful.

Vicky ... yay on the raises! Every bit helps!

Pip ... have a great time.

Tracey ... if your grandson is making sarcastic remarks and is not afraid to go to school... he has disarmed the bullies! Good for him! Still, I'd want to see those other little heathens held accountable...

    Michèle congratulations on the SV!

Machka, I wonder if you could donate it to a migrant or refuge or homeless or women's shelter? I was surprised to hear at one place they were looking for underwear donations. I would have thought donating underwear was taboo, but presumably others did too, and so they had masses of clothes but no underwear. I would think they might be short of some toiletries/consumables too. I almost never use lotion. I had none for a long time and just bought a bottle yesterday.

    Machka,
Also if you live near a busy street, you can possibly put things out on the street.
My place looks onto a quiet dead end but on the other side of my building it's a very busy shopping street, so I sometimes put things just out in front. (furniture, books, nice clothing items) .Most things get taken. My building has 116 apartments so some people have gotten the habit of putting things to give away (dishes, toys, books, dvds, perfumes) on a little shelf at the entrance. I think much of it seems to go.

I imagine underwear would be OK because it can be washed, but who knows where a half-used, faintly stale bottle of lotion might have been. Or what might really be in the bottle!!

I live in a suburban beach town of approx. 7,000 people.

The only time it gets busy where I am is when the parents come to mow down anything on the road in front of them on their way to drop their kids off or pick their kids up from a nearby school. They have one goal - get the kids out of or into the car and keep going.

Machka - Why don't you just throw them away?

Gloomy day. We had thunder and lightning last night and one cloudburst, but that was it. I expect it to rain today. Scotland had record temperatures yesterday!

We have been invited to 'meet for lunch' in October with the brother of DH's partner who died of breast cancer in 2000. He has sent us a list of restaurants and I am trying to check if they have music, or not, and what level. One is shut until 23rd September. I am also not comfortable not knowing if they are paying, or not. I assumed yes, and DH assumes splitting the bill. :# He doesn't want to ask. :# As usual, I feel I have the responsibility of choosing a place and I am not comfortable with an ambiguous situation. I would not invite people out and not pay. I have only met them briefly twice. Not for years.
Oh well, I will have to work on my Zen. :D:p

I will throw some of it away. But I would like to use the rest if I can.

Go prepared to pay for the whole thing. Then if they want to pay all or some ... great!

Machka - you could wear disposable gloves to apply the lotion to your legs. If you washed your hands with the gloves on after you could use them more than once I would think.

PA followup ok. Lipids down, not enough to drop the statin but significant improvement. Vit D up, just barely into ok range. Poo test negative, whew!

3+ hours filing/decluttering keyboard took a toll on daily steps but was a worthy tradeoff.

    Joe’s A1c creeping back up. Not as high as in March but still troubling. His lipids are better than mine ;}

Long board meeting ending in executive session to deal with personnel issue. Tempers. Possible mental issues. Ugh.

Julie  your “I needed . . .” list Will pack such a bag today. Wouldn’t be allowed to wear my own pjs, hospital requires those awful open in the back nighties. Added bath robe, warm socks and slippers ;) I cannot imagine an optometrist prescribing correction without individual testing. SMH. I’m ALWAYS grouchy after a mammogram, even when I prep skin with lidocaine and when the techs are experienced and thoughtful. Your “fast service” experience sounds awful :rage:
Machka that coffee table, WOW!!! Could you squirt your lotion on this and apply it to your legs? I have one for my back. I do get a little lotion on my hands when rinsing out the pads, but I’ve had it for years and only changed the pad once.

Pip You’ll rock that ride! Safe travels.
Michele Christmas decorations already, oh nooo!
Rebecca the very happiest of anniversaries to you and your Chief.
Tracey not just your birthday, but take the day after off too ;) My dream kitchen would have a resin art backsplash.
Katla watching your booster saga with great interest.

Pip- Safe trip! Yogi looks nice and relaxed.
Machka- I would just toss the scents that I don't care for; and keep/use the ones I like. Covid restrictions have made it hard to get rid of/ or collect items for shelters, schools, etc. But I had the lotion problem a few years back, when my daughter married and moved to TX, she left me with ALL of her lotions. When I combined our lotion collections, I had lotion to last me a year. Hers were a more flowery scent (not my thing), so I used hers on my legs and feet. I like the woodsy/musk scents, so I would use those after showers and on my upper body.
Beth- So happy you were able to see and enjoy the Beyond VanGogh exhibit! Colin and I really enjoyed it. If I had gone with my husband, Tim, he would have had issues with it. He is not comfortable with immersive visual/sound experiences. I knew I would like it. I was the type of child that wasn't happy with just walking or stomping through a mud puddle; I had to lay/swim in it. My sister has a picture of me, age 5 ish, in my underwear in a puddle; my clothes in a pile beside it. lol
Julie- Hope you can shake the grumpy feeling. It is unsettling to be like that! Hugs! I am farsighted as well, and I have never had a doctor say, "Well, you are ___ old, so this is how your eyes should be." I would call him out on that. That is irresponsible of him.
Michele- Congrats on the dropping of a few pounds! Great job on the walking!
Heather- Sorry to hear about your younger son's accident, but glad he is getting rest and healing. Quite the day for you and your hubby! I agree with Machka; plan to pay your way at the get together, then, if a portion or all of it is paid by the host, it will be a welcome surprise.

Well, I have caught the cold that my little ones have been sharing this past week. Ugh! Just have to make it through today and tomorrow and I can rest over the weekend. Tonight, I was supposed to go to my first (in person) childcare provider network meeting (since March of 2020)! I have been so excited to see these women, face to face, (although masked) and be able to laugh and share how things are going. Oh well, I will have to call and send my regrets. If I feel okay, I might attend via zoom.

Kids arriving! Better fly. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Maybe there is a restaurant that would suit you either way. If you know what you will order and the price of it, you may be able to pick someplace that you would be comfortable with either your DH's partner paying or splitting the bill. It depends on the entree you choose, not on the place, and you have the menus.

Of course, you do have to vet them for music since that is a pet peeve.

But it seems as if you could get around the who is paying issue by imagining it both ways and seeing if there is some common ground.

Rather than putting your DH into an uncomfortable situation where he may feel embarrassed to be asking about who will pay. (This would make me uncomfortable and embarrassed as well.)

Also, I often ask if I can pay the tip for the entire bill, if I am being treated by someone and would really like to contribute. Then I leave a generous tip.

    Love, Karen in Virginia

The 'host' invited us months back as he is in Brighton on a business/pleasure weekend. We have not been in communication much for years, apart from a Christmas card. He recently sent us a list of expensive restaurants and said he would book Sunday lunch if we liked any of them. These are the kind of places we might perhaps go to for a very special anniversary. To me that says he is paying for all, which was great, (he is quite a high powered business man), and I was surprised when DH said he did not expect that. I would never go to that sort of place for a normal lunch and I would not expect that kind of expenditure without consultation about price range etc. I don't like uncertainty and I would always check that kind of thing beforehand with friends, but I don't really know them.
My main worry is the music. I do not enjoy restaurants where I can hear the music. It is a phobia. I rarely go somewhere I am not familiar with and always ask for the music to be turned down. That is difficult when I am not the host. I am waiting for the replies to a couple of emails to the restaurants.
I suggested to DH that we invite them here, so it would be more relaxing, but he wasn't keen.

Waiting for my new tablet and cover to arrive. I have a code to give the delivery guy. I expect a few days of neurosis while I get everything transferred.

Having a bit of fun cleaning out the bathroom! I didn't intend to get to it yet but it was starting to get out of hand and was starting to slow me down when I was getting ready in the morning.

A number of things have been thrown out.
I have less makeup than I thought ... I must have done a purge a few years ago. I don't use much makeup but at least now I can see it if I want it.
I have more shampoo than I thought! Usually I go through shampoo like water. I'm always buying shampoo! But it appears I have successfully stocked up for once. I shouldn't have to get any for the rest of the month.
And I've now got space in the cupboard under my sink!

Next up will be the big linen etc. cupboard.

The bottom 3 shelves are towels but the top 2 are toiletries. That's where most of the lotion is housed!!! :open_mouth:

It'll be nice when it's done and it is going faster than I thought it would. :)

Rhody has, of course, been supervising!

We've had 20 mm of rain in the past 12 hours and the wind had been gusting up over 85 km/h. Not particularly nice.

Julie I also think it's ridiculous to pick glasses based on age alone! How bizarre.

My mom is going to allow me to go with her to the doctor on Monday. So that is a new step in our relationship. If she remembers. Of course she made the appointment without consulting me, so it's early early in the day, and I have other things later on.

She needs to see her cardiologist but she won't make the appointment. I told her if she can't do it herself, she will lose her independence. She is both stubborn and confused.

I don't know if I can ride Henry today, they expect rain. It already feels like a long day.

I told my friend Craig that I would go to a picnic on Sunday. But it's a two hour drive and now I'm worried about Covid even though I'm vaccinated. I really need to get out and see some new people, but I don't want to drive that far. I'm thinking of cancelling which is unusual for me. I kinda hope it rains.
