Flip the page on your calendar and start a new month full of opportunities to begin new habits and strengthen the ones that are in place.
I have enjoyed being on this journey to better health and fitness in the company of women who support and encourage me.
I seek every opportunity to be active and check in with this thread every day.
Be sure to bookmark this page so you can find it again.
It helps us all if you can sign every post with a name or nickname and a location, specific or general. It helps us remember each other.
My word for 2021 is "lighten up" both in weight and in my approach to life.

Thanks Barbie
August was a stressful month for me, I am happy to begin September!

WooHoo - First day of Spring!!
Sunset is at 5:44 pm now and the last rays of light fade away at about 6:15 pm. This means I can get all the way home from work in some light. That always lifts my spirits.
Happily also, my weight bobs around but it is continuing to edge downward. All those stairs I'm climbing! I'm 4.1 kg (9 lbs) lighter than I was in February.
September Plans
• Running Event - end of September. Plus shorter runs.
• Cycle a 50 km route. Plus shorter rides.
• Walk at least one 5 km walk each week.
• Pilates and strength training at home.
• Climb Mount Kosciuszko virtually as part of a stair climbing challenge at work. Mount Kosciuszko is the highest mountain in Australia. It is 2228 metres = 619 floors * 20 stairs/floor.
• Audax prep for new season - that's the long distance cycling club of which I'm President (and hold several other positions). Our new season begins November 1.
• Events - a play, trains, bees, seeds, and ... we'll see.
• My husband's and my medical appointments. So far not as many as usual.
• Plus, of course, my 2021 To Do List: getting organised, simplifying, etc. - specifically, I'm getting rid of uni notes etc. right now.
That's all in addition to almost full-time work (data) and caring for my husband who has a severe traumatic brain injury and heart issues (heart attack in May).

A new month. Such promise.
I am grateful for the opportunity to read so many people's journey.
I am at work. I will be at work for many more hours and back at 8 am for a student conference. I am grateful for my students. They make the work worth it.3 -
Thank you for the September thread. I am grateful! ❤️😘❤️😘❤️1

Machka - love your Spring flowers. It is feeling like Fall here today.
Heather - Amazon makes returns so easy!
Katla and Barbie - high numbers here too. Our residents will be getting a 3rd shot in the next couple of weeks. I imagine staff will soon follow.
Vicki - that’s a hefty increase. You should have more success now.
Rebecca - it was your Mom I believe with your Dad, I was behind posting but had made some notes.
Barbie - thank you once again for starting us off on another month. I can’t believe it is September already.
I went with my daughter and Grands to do some clothes shopping for back to school tonight. My Grandson, will be going into grade 5 and will be 10 on the 13th, chose a jacket that has “leather” sleeves and a “wool” body. Like the old letter jackets. He claimed he will be the “coolest kid in school”. His Mother told him he should aim for the nicest. He convinced his sister, starting kindergarten and 5, that she should have a “leather” coat sort of like ones some of us wore in the 80’s. When she tried it on he claimed she would be cool too.
I received the hippie glasses for our party today. I tried them on to send him a picture.
I won’t be able to wear them and see anything, but will put a pair on for our yearly picture. I am only missing 1 year of us having our picture taken on our birthday. I probably won’t have many more of these so I’ll cherish all that I get.
Well I should get ready for bed. It’s been a long day.

Barbie, thank you for September!
August was not all I hoped it would be, my exercise is up, but my weight is not moving, could have a lot to do with all that I am cramming into my mouth..... I tracked for the first time in ages, it wasn't pretty! I went for a 2 hr walk with a neighbour, good thing too, I burned 996 calories and that is all that stood between CI being under CO! Ah well, tomorrow is another day....
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Heard from my soldier daughter yesterday--first by text, then by phone. She saved a man's life yesterday.
She walked into the base gym before work, dressed in her workout clothes, ready to do her morning workout. A couple of the staff members were flitting around a guy stretched out on the floor. He was unresponsive, not breathing. Kels settled everyone down and got started doing chest compressions (Red Cross current advice). She verbally rounded up a couple of big guys and had them carry him out to her truck--got someone else to lower the gate, etc., while she kept up with the chest compressions, and checked his airway every 30 compressions.
She also gave her keys to one of the guys to drive her truck, and tagged one other to get in the back with her to help keep the man and her from falling out. She continued the chest compressions until they got to the emergency room and an EMT took over for her.
That is one lucky guy--and a tremendous response to her training by Kelsey. It's also a clear picture of how she acts under pressure. The facility commander told her later that she will be doing CPR training for the rest of the troops and civilians next Tuesday. Her supervisor told her to call me and her dad and tell us what happened, which I thought was funny that they would phrase that as an order. So proud of Corey that he called her after he got the text and told her how impressed he was by her actions.
Watching the digits on the clock change... entered September just over an hour ago.
My goals were - be lighter, be healthier, stick to the budget. I've lost three pounds--from 184 to 181, stayed in budget, and still working on the healthier bit.
Love, y'all,

Thank you Barbie! I also feel better about my “no indoor activities” decision while watching, with dismay, our county’s numbers explode.
Julie, yes outdoor T’ai Chi, preferably on turf. Unfortunately the others in the class find the ground too uneven so we’ll practice on the concrete “stage”. Grateful to be able to meet with class at all
Pip where is that beautiful stream?
Allie holding good thoughts for your neighbor.
Machka your new profile pic and spring flowers. Here we are in high summer and extreme drought so those fresh looking blooms really lifted my spirits.
Heather Brava for your 3 pound credit success! Fingers Xd they send the right stuff this time. Mystery diner? You’ll be great!!!
Welcome @slimnfit613 ! Would you let us know what you’d like to be called and your general locale?
Rita “flesh market” hahahahahaha.
Katla yes here in Southern Oregon numbers continue to worsen, new cases per day 10 times greater than last winter. I’ve reverted to lockdown mentality, no indoor activities, livestream church, outdoor t’ai chi, minimal grocery shopping.
Debbie “I have now started a few merchandising shops” What does that mean?
Tracey the hippie glasses, and the gilded nails
Lisa Kelsey, wow. Talk about calm in crisis. Bravissima!
Huckleberries are bigger and sweeter this year than ever before. Joe saw Tumble pulling some off the bush and eating them so he asked if they were ok. I cautioned him that they could tart but are very healthy to eat, loaded with antioxidants and polyphenols. Now he grazes the bushes whenever he’s out with the dogs and is even adding the berries to his oatmeal. Whod’ve thunk it? Mr. “pig for breakfast, cow for dinner” has really changed his eating habits. I may get to keep him a little longer!
Lighter, lovelies!

Thanks Barbie for starting us off!
Barbara I used to do sports outside all the time. some sort of healthy gymnastics too. not so different Than tai chi in a way, but without a real name. I loved it!
Lisa you must be proud. That seems sweet of the commander to tell her to call you. Maybe it was like a "fatherly"-friend type order and not a commander-type order! I imagine it's pretty emotional for her, so maybe that is also wise, encouraging her to make contact with family to stay grounded and strong. It's pretty scary. I spoke with a MD who was working on an app for helping people give chest compression (maybe with a link to helper - I don't remember). If I remember correctly he said even if done correctly one only has one chance in three in success. I could be wrong but it's a really scary context. I hope she is doing well. That is really something to feel good about.
started work at café today at 7:30, really efficient meeting online from 9 to 9:15 and less efficient work session. Now tired but glad to have gotten the early and partly-efficent work session.
My older sister who had the very serious bike accident (pierced trachea) a couple of months ago is not doing very well in recovery. she was very down after having seen the dr yesterday.
I sent her suggestion to get a 2nd opinion seek alternative care, have her kids advocate for her if possible, etc., see if she can get PT or OT...
she pretty much never goes to the doctor, so wouldn't be prone to be intensely pro-active in that level, which I can understand.
but when it's nearly life and death, that can be Called for.
putting her head in such a such position is tiring and then the position she needs to change to hurts other body parts.. she was quite upset for a moment.
She's 66 recently retired and very rural and non vaxed. she's usually very upbeat, sociable and active. I think her world is closing in considerably.

Happy September!
Thank you Barbie for another fresh start!
I have been lurking(ie reading) Just quiet. And TIRED! I did get my training done, but am so far behind on everything else....I will be doing some work every morning on vacation-ugh. It is that or some long nights. I NEED this vacation even if some paperwork will need to be done. Two Sundays ago I had a really down day. The highlight was seeing my youngest granddaughter dance. She was in several pieces, but the best was the one she choreographed. She is almost 12! Amazing! Both my daughters and families were there and we shared dinner afterwards. Lovely time!
This past weekend we went to two car shows in spite of the heat. The first was close to home. I am such a hillbilly that I was barefoot most of the time. It was on grass. Enjoyed the time with friends. On Sunday, we were in Columbus for a show. I should have made a shout out to Ginny who I hope is feeling better. This show was on blacktop. I dont complain about heat, but it was hot! Ran out of water about 3. Was there until 5. We won at both shows. At Sunday's show we also won split the pot. I was so excited that I ran up to collect with no shoes on! That blacktop was HOT! We spent time with friends there too. Was a fun weekend, but the heat was exhausting.
Monday morning I just HAD TO declutter the house. It was driving me bonkers. Almost all the clutter was mine. DH is wonderful about putting away. I go through spells and feel like I have been living in a state of stress for so long. It did feel good to get things picked up and laundry done.
I have a friend fighting covid in ICU right now. I have another friend who just lost both parents (vaccinated) to covid. I have a friend whose grandbaby was just delivered at 27 weeks. Doing well for now. The friend we met in columbus is searching for his twin brother who disappeared after their mother's death in May. So much going on at once. Donovan counting the days. He is training the new guy (sister in law's step son). Hopung the other new guy starts soon.
Thank you for reading along and continuing this journey with us all!
Healing prayers for those in need.
Hugs for ALL because we all need them!
Love to all!

Lisa great story to start the day.1 -
Happy Wednesday, all!
Barbie- Thank you for the September thread! Yes, things are beginning to tighten up in regards to covid, around here, as well.
Tracey- You look very hip and cool in those glasses.
Lisa- Hooray for Kelsey! She should definitely be proud of herself! You really find out if your brain and body can work together in moments of crisis. So awesome that her CO recognizes that in her!
Rebecca- As a long distance grandma, I can agree with your sentiment, that it is the warmest and loveliest feeling when your grands ask for you, after you have gone home.
Michele- Sorry to hear about Pete and PJ. Hope they both have light cases and recover quickly! It is going around childcare centers in Texas as well. A couple of teachers and students in my grandsons center have it.
Thinking of all of you who are in need of good vibes, healing thoughts! Busy week (I feel like I say that too much! lol) A holiday every day. Today we celebrate Halloween. A four year old "Blippi" showed up this morning; saw all of my dress up stuff out, and is now a "good pirate, not a bad one!" lol His two year old sister, in the meantime, is wearing a cat mask like a bathing suit top.
More kids arriving! I better scoot! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Thank you BARBIE!
Lisa - Well done Kelsey! Cool head. Great that she rang you. I'm sure, as someone said, it helps with the debrief.
I had a productive day. Usual exercise, even without DH. Then I decided to do my roots, in case I get round to doing a video with my son, (expert), or even some publicity photos. I still carried on doing my editing. Managed 90 mins. Plus I put a warm wash on, which I still have to hang up.
Painter still painting. Must buy milk this pm and make yoghurt. My younger son has changed the time of the bbq to Saturday lunchtime, which rather messes up the schedule, but it will all be OK. I have offered to contribute a Greek salad and Tzatziki. If we don't have time to do my stuff, I will just concentrate on seeing my son, who I haven't seen for 20 months. That's more important. He has lost a lot of weight since his health scare. A combination of Mediterranean diet and lots of cycling. I was awake a lot in the night, ruminating over the visit. I don't do well with disruption, but I want him to have a relaxed time.
Tandoori chicken tonight and homemade coleslaw. When DH is out, I have to make a meal that can be served at two separate times.
Love to all. Sorry about your sister, Julie.
Heather UK xxxxxxxx3 -
Since the beginning of the pandemic I have danced in our hobby room by myself a few days a week. I look out the window at my driveway and the flat paved street and imagine a group of dancers and wish we could all be dancing together, but the concrete driveway would be so hard on everyone that it wouldn't be worth it. Line dancing outdoors for my senior age class just wouldn't work, so I go back to gratitude that I am able to dance.
Lisa, what a great thing your daughter did.
I finished another blanket to take to Project Linus. It is red, white, and blue. The next one will be red, white , and hot pink.
Heather, I don't do well with disruption, either. I like my comfortable schedule.

My husband and I went to a play tonight. We found the first act a little slow, but the second and third acts made up for it!!
We haven't been out to a play in a long time, so it was nice to do that again.

I've started my month's climbing with 32 flights of stairs - up and down. Long way to go yet but I'm on track.
I've also prelogged a number of my days and it turns out I need about 230 cal of exercise each day. That's OK. I can do that.
I'd love to see at least one kg drop off in September.

Hi, I am new to this group. I fit the age just right. This year has been good and I just spent from August 2020 to August 2021 with losing 85 pounds. I track everything and still have 40 to 50 pounds to lose. I am 5 "1 and so all the weight was really killing me! Today is a new day and I will be happy. Walking at lunch and breaks are how I keep energized though the day. In Oct. I have my health assessment and hopefully all the numbers will be better than last year!!13

"This month's theme: Self Care September
Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. No-one's perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people's outsides. This month we're encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too."
