We are home after a morning of grocery shopping and trying to find a hose for the bathroom shower. DH found just the right thing online and was in the process of ordering it. He also found one in stock in the town about 7 miles from here. That is good news. We’ll try the store in the next town before ordering on line.

Debbie – Picking up your daycare girl at school and stopping for a picnic lunch in the park on the way home sounds delightful. :star:

Used the stairmaster today then walked on the treadmill. I find that down here I need to use the treadmill (at least right now) so that I’m not in the humidity. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Biggest loser calorie Knockout DVD.

Went for ice cream last night. I just had dairy free ice cream. According to MFP I was surprised how many calories were in dairy free ice cream. I seem to recall that there’s an ice cream (Arctic Zero?) that’s dairy free and only something like 35 calories in half a carton.

Barbara – sad to say, I doubt Vince will continue with walking. He even said the only reason he took a walk was because he was bored. When we went for ice cream, even tho the place is only across the street, he wanted to drive there. In the end, that was probably a good thing since it started to rain.

    Heather – great decorating job

After exercise went and bought a paper, bought the storm door, painted the inside part of the door and some of the wall (needed to prime the wall), went in the pool, then did a bit more painting. After dinner went to this one mall just to see what’s there now. Still have the door sides to do. Tomorrow after exercise need to go to Aldi, then will stop at this ceramic place here to pick up the bisq, then need to go to the place in Melbourne for bisq, I want to go to St. teresa’s thrift store, we need to get gifts for Lynette and Colby since they like the space program. Looks like we may have to finish painting Sunday.

Tina – glad you had such a nice vacation

It is good for both of us. She is a real couch potato if she gets her choice so getting her to run around for even a half hour is great.

Hi All. We just returned from 18 days of vacation, most of which was completely offline. That part was nice. The few pounds gained was not nice.

However, because my knee didn't heel, I need to try something else to get it working again. So, I am in the market for an indoor exercise bike. For those who have them, any recommendations?

    Thanks!

    Tina in CA

I ride. I’ve had a smart trainer that we ended up selling because it was a pain. When it worked it worked great, I was using my road bike on it. But we were always having to recalibrate it and we needed to get a tire specially for riding on.a trainer (using a regular bike tire, you would wear it out quickly. We are riding on it every day, so that would depend on how often and how long u were riding on it. It was great when it was connected to the zwift app so you can see who you are riding with, how fast you are going, you watts and your route. When you go on an incline, it automatically gets harder and you have to shift accordingly, when it was working it was good, but it was a pain.

I am now riding on a Schwin spin bike. DONT buy that brand, their customer service is awful, they send people out that don’t know how to fix them. We had 2, one couldn’t get fixed after 3 service calls, getting a refund and they picked up the one that didn’t work. I am now riding on the other one that does. Hopefully, that won’t peter out . When we come back from our trip, we are going to buy a wahoo fitness bike trainer.

Tina ... refresh my memory...what is your knee injury?

    Beth near Buffalo.

I don't know what happened. It's been bothering me for 1.5 years. I suspect a major redesign of my trusted model of running shoe did it, but I cannot prove it. I've tried PT twice with no resolution. I just took 3 weeks off after doing PT for 6 weeks and it still flares up. Mostly, if I am walking or standing a lot. It gets stiff if I don't move it too (like nearly constantly) and I cannot bend it as far as I used to. The doc nor the PT has a real clue. I need an MRI, but insurance doesn't seem to want to pay for anything these days, so I'm in a battle with them already for other things they just don't' want to pay for. So, I thought I'd try the stationary bike...just grasping at straws.

    Tina in CA

I was never a runner, but your symptoms sound similar to my osteoarthritis in my knees. Both X-ray and CT scan can diagnose that. And while I’ve tried PRP injection, PT and 24 hour anti inflammatory meds…the only real solution is going to be replacement. I believe and take vitamin d3, magnesium and a b complex to help with joint pain. I know reducing sugar helps. I did just read somewhere that drinking a lot of water helped some man with his knees! Hope you find some relief soon.

We had a long conversation with our son today. He was at home with our grandson. DDIL was out for a girls day with good friends. We talked about a visit to them. At this time the Corona Virus is more active in their area than we expected.
    l
We have been planning to visit them to babysit our grandson while DDIL & our son are in the hospital for the birth. Corona Virus there seems to be worrisome. We will have to make decisions as things develop this fall. We think the new baby will be born some time in November. Keeping my fingers crossed & praying that everything goes well.

    Allie,

The more exquisitely wonderful the memories, the more exquisitely we feel the loss. I am both sorry for your current pain and glad for your amazing memories of times past. (((Hugs)))

    Heather,

"This month's theme: Self Care September

Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. No-one's perfect. But so often we compare our insides to other people's outsides. This month we're encouraging everyone to be kinder to themselves (as well as others), especially when things go wrong. Self-care increases our resilience and helps us get more out of life. It also helps us accept others as they are too."

    We did!

We went to the 150th anniversary of Tasmanian railways to look at (and ride) the trains and models. :)

And then we exercised ... I cycled inside and ran on the treadmill.

Allie - Getting involved with the senior center might be a good idea. I have a friend who delivers meals on wheels for our local senior center a couple of days a week. My neighbor did the same until her health put a stop to it. People in our community are wearing masks in public and socializing is generally outdoors with appropriate social distancing.

:)Allie, looking at the Senior Center for activity and companionship sounds like a great idea. I used to dance at a Senior Center and saw all the happy people and the activity schedule. You're bound to find something you like to do and people you'll enjoy being with.

:'( Right now my line dance class is on hiatus because of Covid restrictions (we can't dance in masks, and masks are necessary indoors in groups), but many other activities continue.

<3Katla, That is disturbing news about Covid possibly creating a problem for your trip to welcome your new grandchild.

:) I got the newsletter from our local Project Linus chapter. The chapter has received over 1300 quilted and knitted blankets so far in 2021

:)Heather, what a happy picture of your son.

1st place has been saving up his rides and made one big entry. He is now at 2069.63 … that means I have 300.54 miles now that I have to do before this coming Wednesday to catch up to him. Ugh…I could do it if I rode 100 miles for today, Sunday and Monday but do I want to?? I dunno…. Sad face sore butt.

    Would that all be inside?

I've done heaps of 100 mile days outside but I don't know if I'd have the motivation to do it inside!!
