when i went to meetings this past week i was just exhausted. just being in meetings. almost unbearable.
In 2 cases i left briefly (big meetings with more than 50 people). in one it was impossible. or not timely.
Bananas,
I, too, find physical exhaustion to be a huge damper on mood. As with most people, physical exhaustion for me is multifactorial and morphs over time, but my suspicion is that sleep hygiene may be more important and more elusive for me than some of the other factors under my control. I need to work on it.
I have been reading your posts for awhile, now, and I would like to say 2 things to you, Bananas:
1) You are brilliant and insightful and complex and amazing and worthy, and I am sorry you struggle. I do too.
2) Meetings are deadly. Period.

15: Find a coping, calming phrase to use when you feel low: “… Thou hast holden me by my right hand…”
16: Leave positive messages for yourself to see regularly: “…beloved child of God…”
‘nother low step day but CI<CO thanks be. Just skimmin’ as time to get going on my Medfort junket. Hoping the little something on my mouth turns out to be nothing. Will be reading on my phone so not responding much the next few days.
KJ "wanted to smack" your dh for leaving you alone at the party. At first I laughed, then sent ((hugs)). So telling.
Julie Glad you got that video off your list. “clear communication is key”, “clear about rates” and “have no space in my life for tempermental MDs” Truth!!! Sounds like her practice emphasizes aesthetics more than cancer/medical treatment.
Heather the sea like silk pic. Reminds me of the view from commuter bus back when I worked in SF.
Karen “Meetings are deadly. Period.” Truth too! One of the many joys of retirement is that I now have only two meetings a month, both by choice and only one in person.

When I meet my friends, it is for a walk. I won't sit and talk or meet for a meal or beverage. I frequently attend meetings on Zoom using my phone with my camera off and take a walk or work in the yard during the meeting. They are not meetings for work, so no one can fire me for having my camera off.
When asked to do something I don't want to, I say, "Sorry, that won't work for me."
Meetings are deadly The last few years I work, the administrator had this bright idea that we should sit in a circle facing each other without tables so there was no place to put a beverage or your elbows or a notepad. Those meetings were extra deadly.

Hello, I’m on my mind 50s. Starting a journey that I’ve started many times before but hoping the outcome will be different. Looking to connect for inspiration, encouragement, and just plan connection! 😀9

I grasped the nettle and got started on my new tablet.
NOT easy and worse than I expected because the two tablets, old and new, refused to recognise each other and sync. Then they did and I breathed a sigh of relief, but it cut out again and it was a d.... of a job to get it started again. Restarted the tablets, reloaded the Switch apps. Eventually, after many tries it caught on.
That bit worked OK in the end, but there was a lot of housekeeping to do with passwords and security checks. Finished most of that.
I still, haven't transferred my microcard, but that can wait. My next post will be from my new tablet.
Feeling relieved, but it got a bit panicky there for a few moments.
But, I DID IT! After much procrastination and a sleepless night.
Soon it will feel like this old tablet. Double the memory, so I've been able to put a few apps back on that I had to delete from my old one.
Now off to row.

Watching a Zoom tonight about changing the law on assisted dying. The doctors voted yesterday not to oppose a new bill.4 -
Did a body pump DVD today then went for my walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do a spinning workout.
M – when is the run?? Good luck, I know you can do it.
Allie – You’re a mother, but I would also be worried about Taliah not being vaccinated. Could Tracy have any influence? If, God forbid, Taliah gets CV or even carries it and gives it to Tracy, that could be devastating
Went with Vince for his allergy shot and then to the Salvation Army
I’m loving the air fryer lid for my IP. Made Vince some potato puffs for dinner tonight, and they come out so very crispy. Next, I’ll try french fries. It really isn’t that good for dehydrating since it only makes such a small amount. Gotta look up other things I can make in it.
Wonder how Penny’s making out in her new digs
drkatie – maybe, just maybe, this will make your brother wake up. Unfortunately, I doubt it. So very sad
Barbara – do you want to see pics of the mermaid BEFORE I doctor her up and make her “less risque” or after?
Took my walk then played mahjongg by the pool. I found that now I can only play until 7:45 and then I have to go to the upper patio where there are lights.
Oops! Forgot to post yesterday.
Wednesday here: did a spinning workout then took my walk. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Slim in 6 DVD
Terri – I don’t know of any store around here that has senior hours any more. Just thought of that.
Ezraella – welcome
Ceramics tonight.
Better post this before I forget

Hi Gals,
Stress and sleep hygiene - My impression is that they go together, with a good nights sleep you make better decisions, you react in your preferred way easier, and that lowers stress – not that I believe there is any way to eliminate stress, and a bit of stress may not be bad sometimes it is a motivator to get some change to happen.
I also believe that there are 2 kinds of stress “self created” and “stuff happens” the self created is things like my house is not clean enough for company, every card has to be on time, the constant striving for perfect -- stuff happens is illness, accident, unplanned items….
For me about 90% of the time I am up between 4:30-5:30 am and in bed -lights off between 9:30-10:30pm – that gives me about 7 hours a night, I would like 8 but I have not been able to fit that in. And most days by 7-8 pm screens are off, no TV, no computer, and if I am using the phone it is talking on it, not using it as a screen. I will read, stretch, brush the dog, write a note, meal planning, update my to do list…. Basically set things up for the next day and let the day I’m in begin to fade away.
Ok so I read that and I sound like an old fuddy duddy – stuck in her ways and no fun. But honest I am not, but as a working gal – many days have the same rhythm and I have found a rhythm that lets me get a lot done, get sleep and have the mental clarity to say no nicely, to ask for help, to share troubles, Collaborate all things that for me keep self created bad stress at bay.

KJ--I understand about waking up and being mad at DH for something in my dream and wanting to smack him.
Talking of strange dreams I had one the other night about our son that passed way 22 years ago. He came to our house mad at me because I was telling everyone he was dead. He was carrying his box of ashes, which sits in my spare room. Really upsetting to me for a couple days.
Julie--I agree that doctor seemed very unprofessional and more concerned about money.
I do not like meetings either and seems they schedule more all the time and set around taking about stuff that never gets done or settled. Drives me crazy.
Heather--Glad to hear you got the new tablet synced.
DH and I go in the morning and get our 2nd Covid shot. I am leaving work long enough to go to doctor's office and get the shot and come back to work. I also work 12 hour shift on Friday so pray I do not have any problems. So then I can keep my job as will be fully done by Oct 1.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND NE5 -
Kim ~ I am the "self created" stress down to the T. I get anxious about anything and everything not a part of my usual routine.

This quote says so much about self-imposed stress. I can easily make a whole bunch of rules for myself and then get crazy because I can't follow them all. Finding balance is very difficult and very satisfying when I can do it. Sometimes when I'm stressed about something, I say to myself "Who made this rule?" and the answer is generally that I'm the one.
Heather congrats on getting your new tablet set up. You can be proud of the way you didn't give up and now you have all that extra memory that you wanted and needed.
I have a strict sleeping plan and schedule that has allowed me to feel rested most of the time. It includes being in bed at a certain time, reading just enough to be drowsy, waking up in the middle of the night to walk the dogs, reading again for a bit to get drowsy, and getting up at the same time every morning. My friends know that they can't call me after my scheduled bedtime and if the do, they'll get voice mail and a call back the next morning.
Reading to get drowsy enough to sleep helps me clear my mind of those things that might cause me to worry.

Went to visit our financial guys home for dinner. He has. Full fledged/stocked bar in his shop and collectsrepairs jukeboxes and signs which all work! We were playing great music like in the 40’s, and Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Andrew sisters, etc, it was fun

Barbara – I envy your walk to the powerline with your dogs. Bottom line is that I miss my own dog. He was a sweet old boy and his death was/is still heartbreaking. We have not gotten another dog because of upcoming travel obligations. We are hoping to adopt a new puppy around the first of the year. Wish us luck.

Barbara ... the Psalmist certainly understood where his comfort came from ...
Bananas ... ditto what Karen said
Vicki ... it was a dream ... hugs.
Stress ... sleep, adherence to routine ... these things have helped me keep self-imposed stress to a minimum. Learning how to respond to stress outside of my control has taken a lot of practice ... and faith.

Hello everyone, from my new tablet! :drinker:
I've moved the microcard over, so now I'm all set.
My new cover for it is a much nicer colour, navy instead of maroon.
Now to go upstairs for my Zoom.

I love vintage pinball. You know there is a place in Vegas that has several machines.3 -
Had soup today at noon. At 5 pm having spaghetti and a bit of cube steak. But just a small portion of each. It takes some getting used to son working nights. He leaves at 3 pm and we don't see him the rest of the evening. He usually comes home between 2-5 am. It all depends on what they have going on, if the helicopter has to go out. So no prepping for 2 people for meals. I can start eating my main meals with husband, but it'll take some time. I do like my noon meals. I just fix something small for husband.
Presently our oven has not been working. Since the beginning of the month! An electrician is supposed to call on the 28th to schedule an appointment. You never realize how much you use an oven until you don't have it! I was supposed to get it cleaned by a gal today, so called to cancel that. No sense getting it cleaned, if I do possibly get another oven. Should be interesting because the management company hasn't been able to contact the owners on the east coast, regarding getting a new yearly lease. So we are on month to month. I like the security of a year lease. We told the management company, as long as the rent stays the same.
Still writing a couple of letters a day, just taking my time. Today is a bright sunny day, but cool. I have already put the heavier blanket on the bed along with each of our afgan blankets. Oh and I wear socks!
