Welcome to MFP and the group!
If there are particular challenges for you about using MFP, or about losing weight generally, I'd encourage you to ask about them here. There are people here at all stages of weight management, quite a few in our age range (I'm 65), and probably someone has faced a similar thing and could share how they addressed it. We're all individuals, of course, but the more ideas on the table, the more likely we'll see one that could work for us.
Wishing you success!4 -

We don't check IDs, AFAIK. 😉
But I'll say what I did to a couple of past similar inquiries: I'll loan you a year or so, if needed. At 65 - 66 in just over a week - I have spares!sandra2bfit1 wrote: »75 here have to lose 100 + pounds do need encouragement.
You can do this! It's normal to have a few "learning experiences" along the way, but sticking with the process patiently, in a sensible way, can be pretty magical IME. Wishing you success!2 -
Welcome to all the new folks. This is a great group for support and encouragement.
Just back from five days camping on the Salmon River in Idaho. Old friends, whiskey and campfires. 🔥🥃😎And some fishing for good measure. Good times.
Add me as a friend if you like.10 -

Thanks for the kind words, @swimmom_1. You're right - the break was just what I needed.
I did NOT want to go back to work today. HAHA!5 -
Hi Everyone,
Going on a fishing trip sounds wonderful. I’m really a girl from up North and that’s where my heart lies. I love the outdoors. Reminds me of my childhood. The weather here is warm and gorgeous today. May go for a walk in the country. Having a rough time health wise, but realized I have to keep a positive mindset and keep my goal of losing weight. I’m sticking to it.3 -
I am 70 years old, and I have 55 pounds to lose. I am very depressed about it since the scale has been going in the wrong direction for me for a while now. I lost 30 pounds on WW two years ago, and it is all back now. Part of my problem is that my wife wants no part of dieting and eating healthy (she didn't do the Weight Watchers with me). She is 81 years old and doesn't want the pain and trouble that goes with dieting, and refuses to exercise at all, and in truth, she is not able to.
One reason that the WW worked for me was the weekly meetings and the accountability. So now I am making a commitment to myself (again) to get the weight off and get healthier. Are there any suggestions for a group that includes accountability to the group? Thanks.5 -

Welcome to MFP! I lost 90 pounds between 2013 and 2016. I still log my food and check in on the forums at least once a day. I found (find?) the forums a huge help in my weight-loss journey. I hope you do too 🙂3 -
Hi everyone! I've been a bit of a lurker here. After a few decades of being 250+ pounds, I started back on track here in June in the 260's. I'm down 50 pounds so far and for the first time, actually believe I can get to a healthy weight. I'm swimming, hiking and working out at Orange Theory fitness and have been focused on logging my foods and weight every day, even those days when it's a bit ugly. It's nice to be able to look back and see my focused response on days that followed the bad ones.
Last weekend, my sister and I headed to the mountains for our weekly hike. It was in the 30's, damp and way foggier than we expected. There was a silence to the fog that was a little creepy (we kept an eye out for bears) and at the same time, beautiful. It felt like we were alone in the world. We saw a few hikers and several mountain bikers, one who said he'd seen us last week. We laughed and told him we were "diehards". Who knew on the days when the parking lot was almost empty and it was cold, we'd be the athletes still be climbing up the hills and down the rocks? It was such an "aha" moment and still makes me smile. (photo is of my sister in the fog)
I'm guessing many of them have seen us from the first time when I was around 250 pounds, having to stop numerous times to catch my breath, as I hiked up the hills. I would have been hard to miss. Still, with the help of my sister, who is at goal weight now after losing 40 pounds this year, I kept going. Now, while I don't run up the hill, I don't have to stop anymore and our last hike was over 6 miles. I can actually look up as I hike instead of carefully taking each step, worried about tripping and falling. Thank goodness for hiking poles.
Here's to everyone who keeps putting one foot in front of the other when things are tough. So happy to be here with all of you!

Welcome to all those new to the group. Steve, so glad you were able to get some r&r. This group is very supportive and the tools are easy to use You can use it as a tool to keep you accountable by reporting your progress. If you are not comfortable with doing the whole group select and request them as a friend and report to them your progress. I go to this site every morning to start the day with positivity. Most importantly be kind to yourself you are not alone.4

Hi @OcalaGuy,
The good news is you’ve done most of it before and can do it again. Five or so years ago I used MFP and lost 60 pounds—I was 10 pounds from my goal at that point. Then I slowly gained back most of it. Two years ago I decided to get back at it. In the course of a year and a half I re-lost the original weight and the 10 I hadn’t lost. To get there, I set 10 pound goals at a rate of 1 to 1.5 pounds per week, and would then reassess. I set an arbitrary final goal that would have me at 1/2 my highest-ever weight, which, at 5’2” is still 10 pounds over being underweight. I reached that goal 2 months ago. I don’t anticipate staying this small forever, but do intend to stay here while COVID is a concern, as my weight, activity (not all that much), and meds are keeping my blood glucose in the non-diabetic range.
So, realistic small goals and reassessment were key to my success, with a strong sense of motivation regarding reducing my risk of bad COVID

I'm 66, and in February I left the doctors office in tears, with a weight of 203. I have counted calories, joined a gym, walk , or with bad weather I bring out my old Richard Simmons "Reach" tape. Love that guy!!! Here it is November and I have lost 47 lbs. I retired and I think that is what did it. My motivation? Getting back into clothes I haven't worn 10 years and health. I do feel alot better. I worry about the holidays, because I am yo yoing between 151 and 152, I cannot seem to break into the 140 category . I would love to hear any suggestions to break this. Its been a month now.

Checking in. Welcome to the new folks!🙋♂️
Weight is up a bit after the river trip. No surprise there. Also up because I have been stress (over)eating and not getting any regular exercise. I have got to get a handle on that.
Back to the program in earnest today!

I thought it was an interesting comment about shrinking as we get older which makes our middle thicker as well (and of course fat accumulates differently after a certain age). Do Men also shrink as they age or is it just women and meno? I know my Dad and Mom BOTH had that awful hump thing going when they were in late 70's a little and mostly in their 80's.
Welcome back Steve and to all the new folks. I bet Daisy was happy to see her Dad again!

I got the best news from my doctor today. I feel like a new, different woman with a new lease on life. I’ve never felt this way before. I’m giddy with happiness. I’m more committed than ever to getting healthy. My husband and I both cried tears of joy when I got the call from my sweet doctor.
A little background. About 3 weeks ago, I decided to lose weight and get in shape and to stop ignoring and abusing my health. I started using mfp after about a week of lifestyle and diet changes. It was hard work. I felt like I was going to be sick while working out, but persevered anyway. I cooked healthy meals. Things were on a roll.
Then, I had to go to emergency on Halloween and spent the day there being tested. The emergency doctor gave me bad news. It could be cancer. I had to undergo further testing which I did a couple of days later. The possible results of that test terrified me. I froze in time. Could barely talk or move while I waited for the biopsy results.
The results of that test were negative and I feel like I’ve been given a reprieve. I have never in my life been as committed to anything. I won’t waste this opportunity. Seems significant that I received such wonderful news on Remembrance Day. Maybe there is a God.

Wonderful news, @Melwillbehealthy - congratulations, too, on that reinforcing your commitment to establishing healthier habits!

47 pounds down since February is great, @qclady2: Congratulations on that success!
In your current situation, did your loss rate taper off gradually, or were you losing at a pretty good rate then suddenly seem to stall?
Many people report finding the last few pounds above goal weight to be a little slower/harder to lose. If loss tapered off gradually, it might be time to re-estimate your calorie needs if you haven't already done that; or think about whether there are ways to tighten up logging a little because the tolerances get tighter closer to goal weight. If loss was going along at a pretty good rate, and stopped suddenly, without any changes in eating or activity, then some kind of temporary water retention is possible . . . and it isn't always obvious why it would be happening. In that latter case, just hanging in there and sticking to your healthy routine for a while longer might be enough to see a scale drop - one of those "weight loss isn't linear" things. Bodies can be weird!
Hoping you see a change soon - it can be frustrating, for sure!

Thanks Ann, and coblujay. I’m actually thrilled to be given this opportunity to get healthy. I went to the gym this morning and worked out. Then swam for a bit afterwards. I love swimming.4

That is great news, @Melwillbehealthy. All the more incentive to make the lifestyle changes that you want to undertake.1

@qclady2 - One other thing you might try is a diet break. Long term calorie restriction can cause hormone imbalances and lead to weight loss plateaus. There is some research that suggests that a diet break can help to reset your hormone levels and break through those plateaus. There is a detailed explanation in the thread below - most of the important information is in the first couple of pages.

Kinda new here but been on a couple of trips and now caring for hubby who had total hip replacement Thursday. Have not been able to get my workouts in but I was able to walk the pup before sunset. I am hoping to weigh in on Wednesday at my goal weight; I've lost 36 lbs in the last year the most being the last 10 weeks.4

Checking in. Did a 6 mile hike on a local golf course with the dog yesterday. Felt good to get out. Usually can do this route nonstop, but I paused to rest several times yesterday. Lower back is a little sore today. Need more hiking to restore my conditioning.
Got a little whoosh on the scale this morning, too. Looking like a good day!6
