11/27 - π£ 3 drinks πππ 1 wine + 2 bourbon & diet coke
Burned my hand which was not a good excuse to drink bourbon but I soothed it with Aloe on the hand and a few drinks instead of pain meds. TODAY is a good day to start fresh.

AF again yesterday and husband joined me. It was easy and I didn't think of drinking at all. I think my body was just too inflamed from running 35 minutes straight after doing an hour of weights the day before. Anyway, I have to keep it up. The more exercise I do, the more relaxed and happy I am. It's a good place to be5

I ended with 16AF days for October. My ongoing goal is 16-20 AF days.
November 28th 2018 was when I started on this thread. My late Dad's birthday.
I have learned to drink less over the past 3 years, although it was very tough at first weaning myself off of being a daily drinker.
Diary style is how I roll and keep track.
Thursday November 25 - Drinks. Unplanned. I was stressed out, but really try to save drinks hours for happy times, not stress times. Planned drinks Saturday night with friends that I am going to the Symphony with. Pretty sure that I will get to 20AF days for this month.
Friday November 26 - AF - Tomorrow and Sunday off : - ) I had a violinist and double bass player in the restaurant today that are playing the Symphony show that I am going to tomorrow night. I didn't find out until they were paying, and then I totally fan girled out
Saturday November 27 - Drinks - One at a restaurant before the concert, and 2 afterwards. Really fabulous show, I got absolutely lost in it : - )
Rolling total: 19AF days out of 27 days.4 -
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
So happy you got to go to the symphony and had such a good time, @dawnbgethealthy. How often do we get to be in the presence of 100 talented and passionate people creating together? It just seems to make the world a bigger place.
Had an absolute blast with family the past week. So, so missed my nephew & brother during the pandemic. Great being with them, all the girls, all the parents. It's scary seeing my parents age so fast. My dad in particular didn't seem to age at all for decades but seems like he aged 20 years in the past 3-4 years. On the other hand it's truly heartwarming seeing the nephew & daughters grow up.
Brother & family left yesterday, I took DD#2 to the airport at 5:30AM today, DD#3 & DH depart this afternoon, and I'll be alone for a few days. Don't remember the last time that happened! It's always a little bit of a downer to say bye to everyone so I need to come up with fun things to look forward to.
On the "drinking less" front, I have totally regressed to a "drinking more" state of being. In addition to Thanksgiving, we celebrated my nephew's birthday & brother's marriage. It was fun and festive. Drinks weren't necessary to enjoy the fun and festivities, but they were flowing and I had only 1 or 2 AF days all week. And several times I had more than 2. Last night I employed tactics that usually work for me -- following a cocktail with a mocktail and brewing a pot of tea. Nonetheless, after the pot of tea DH & I had a bottle of wine. It's like I lost my way. Here's hoping some time alone helps me find my way back on track.7 -
Made this kransenkake to celebrate my brother & SIL's marriage. We're not Norwegian, but I've always wanted to try this! My nephew loves to cook, so I got him the molds and all the stuff to make it for his bday last year, but we couldn't do it together because of the pandemic. So this was a way of celebrating the newlyweds and the missed birthday. Did not have the molds so had to do it free form. Now I know how much the molds help!6 -
Wow @ahoy_m8 your cake looks too pretty to eat. I would love to make a Christmas holiday cake like that and if I can find a gluten-free way to do it, I will. What inspiration!
I logged 5 AF days this past week and it was a holiday week too!! If I can do it, everyone can. Just focus on the next 24 hours and keep distracted and busy.
@dawnbgethealthy -Are you in Cranbrook or Creston? Is the best way from the US driving through Rykerts border crossing? Tentatively looking at June 9th or 10th and right now taking a short flight to Spokane in a small plane looks like the least Covid-complicated option.3 -
Last night at fishing camp π£ DH & I were both AF

@ahoy_m8
Impressive cake!!! How did it taste?
The Symphony of the Kootenays was probably only 50-60 musicians, but included Timpani : - )2 -
@globalhiker
I am in Cranbrook.
Are you going to Banff first for the marathon?
I am not familiar with the border crossing that you mentioned.
I would say that if you are going to Banff first it would be better to fly into Calgary and rent your car there.
From Spokane Banff is probably about an 8 hour drive. You would cross at Kingsgate (Eastport) if you are coming that way, maybe 3 hours to the border.
Kalispel airport is about 45 minutes to the border, but many hours from there up to Banff and circuitous.
If you are visiting me prior to the marathon then the route from Spokane would be a lovely drive.

I just celebrated 2 years sober a couple of days ago. I did it before my little girl was born. I want to be the best dad I can be for her.11

Come to think of it, the local symphony where I live made many pandemic adjustments to keep musicians safe, including expanding the stage to occupy 1/3 or the orchestra seating & instrumentation for fewer instruments. But still, 50-60 artists working together is still pretty inspirational! It takes me out of my head, anyway. Love, love timpani.
Kransekake is made with 3 ingredients - egg whites, almond (flour or ground) and an insane amount of confectioners sugar. So how can you go wrong with taste? When baked properly, crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. I had a few challenges, so my execution was not perfect. If I ever do it again, I hope to learn from my mistakes.5 -

Sorry, I haven't been checking in daily as I intended. The new update messed up some of my resolutions. Anyways, my bf broke up with me because of my binge drinking. I promised him I wouldn't go overboard, and I kept my promise for more than 3 months... But I had a relapse and he saw it and got disgusted by me. I feel bad about it. I don't know if staying sober every day would have made our relationship stronger. Or if it was just a disaster waiting to happen. I would like to believe that if he really loved me, he would accept my flaws and encourage me to get stronger/better. But at the 1st mistake, he bails...Who does that?7

11/29 - @ Fishing Camp π£ 2 bourbon & diet coke
Dawn made me look back at my own notes ...
Dec 28, 2018 (FIRST AF day in 2018) when I decided to be accountable and not just drink mindlessly & excessively. I'm definitely not perfect but I'm now able to control my # of drinks (most days) and even rack up some AF days each month. Baby steps.

@Marmelade75689 That really hurts. I don't know the answer to any of the questions you pose, but I do know what a break up feels like. It stinks. A wise friend once told me sometimes you just have to go through what you have to go through. Hang in there. Feel what needs to be felt. Use the pain like fuel to move you forward to another place with other options and opportunities. Believe in yourself and that it will hurt less in the future. Ask for support when you need it. Sending you hugs. Check in whenever it works FOR YOU.6
