❄️We've made it to December!!!
❄️ 2021 may be almost complete, but we're going to keep up the momentum and stay energized right through the 31st!
❄️What goals do you hope to achieve, or have already achieved, by the end of this year?
❄️How do you plan to celebrate the holidays and are there any strategies you have put/will be putting in place to help you through?
💙 If you've never been here before, please know you are welcome to join at any point in the month. All you have to do is post something, and then BAM! you're one of us.
💙 In this group, we post our weekly and monthly goals and provide support and motivation to each other as we share our triumphs and our struggles. This group is all about accountability.
💙All are welcome and, if you think you belong here, you do! No matter how much you currently weigh or how you measure (or don't measure) your weight, we'd love to hear from you.
💙Victories, both scale and non-scale, are great to hear about, but, conversely, we know that weight loss isn't all sunshine and roses. If you're going through a rough patch, please feel free to be honest and vent your heart out. The struggle is real and we're all here to support each other!

I think the uptick on the scale after Thanksgiving was because of...well, that, mostly, so I do think I'm closer to Onederland than that last weigh-in suggests, thus my goal for this month is still the 196 I've been aiming for. It might be a little bit of a stretch - I've been averaging about 0.94lb per week, not quite a whole pound, but honestly I'll be happy just to get to and stay in Onederland this month. I did it last year during the Holidays, I'm sure I can do it again.
Pre-logging the whole week continues to be an ace strat, and I also want to continue going for evening walks in addition to the workouts I do in the morning, both to burn a few extra calories and also because I find it pleasant to walk around when the sun isn't beating down upon me (not that I have much of a choice, since the sun goes down at like 5 and I'm at work most days until at least 6...)7 -

Going to Disney this month to see our cruise buddies. They're actually able to go. My husband missed them last year so we almost had to plan a second due to one of them needing a surgery scheduled.
TOTM came so some of the uptick seen was from that. Surprise ha. Only at 45 days this time. I think my booster helped give a proper timing so we'll see what happens the next months.4 -

❄️ Continue meal planning/prepping on the weekends
❄️ HIIT classes 4x per week

❄️ Maintain food moderation during the holidays*
*My SIL makes like 5000 cookies during the holidays and restraint is tricky. I'll be at their house between Christmas and the New Year and I'm trying to figure out the best strategy for me to deal with the abundance.
I've been using the app Happy Scale to help me stay positive with weight fluctuations. I'm really liking it! I tend to drop 3 - 4 pounds almost overnight, then gain 1 - 2 over the next 2 - 5 days, and then repeat this cycle. This app really helps smooth that out and is keeping me focused on the positive and not focusing on the ups and downs.

Glad that's still working for you @goal06082021 ! I find that when I meal plan/prep I'm in a much better situation for the week than when I "wing it". How's your husband doing?
@sarah12277 - have a great time at Disney! I love going there.
@danikat15 - good luck with the alcohol goal! I normally drink WAY more when I'm with family, but I managed to only have half a drink over Thanksgiving and felt pretty proud of myself! I've learned that it's a major trigger to my rosacea so it was easy to skip.3 -

This month I will be doing some traditional Catholic Advent fasting. I got a nice site which explains it. Whew, those old time Catholics were not playing around when it came to fasting and abstinence! Which I am sure helps with the virtues of temperance and diligence, which I absolutely need!!
My non-scale goals:
🎄 Walk 4+ miles every single day (up from 3 miles last month!!) I can actually do the 4+ miles in less time than I was able to do the 3 miles which is blowing my mind. My eventual goal will be 5 miles every day - or that is my current plan, all things being equal.
🎄 Be patient! Remember: increments are where it is at.
🎄 Remember: Total loss of 100.8 lbs down!! I had to wait for TOTM to finish, but this momentary win is very nice.

I will be honest here, I NEVER for a minute thought I would make it this far. I have never successfully lost weight before. I just joined MFP to stop gaining weight in 2013. And the first few years, I did NOT gain any weight. Woo hoo for early maintenance! Even on prednisone, being sick all the time, the hives, etc. I finally did lose a little bit, and by 2016 I was 230 lbs. I was pleased as punch with THAT loss and the maintenance after. Again, I am not sure if most people sit at such a high weight and go for maintenance, but at the time I felt that was the best I could do. So from 2016 until Feb 2021(6 years) I was 230 lbs, which was a win in my book, because the real goal was to not gain weight.
I NEVER considered the idea that I would actually make it to onederland. I thought that was for other people with less health issues. I had someone on my thread ask what I was going to do to celebrate the big 1-0-0. I have no idea, I am still in some measure of disbelief! What do people do to celebrate such a loss. Anyone here know? I was thinking of having the hubby take some pics to see the damage, and I have a Christmas t-shirt from when I weighed 277 - so I think that will be a nice picture comparison.
@cheesy567 quote “Goals must be focused on the habits. You can control your habits, you can control what you *do.* You cannot control the outcome. You can chose to follow your meal plan and exercise plan to a T. You cannot control what the scale says. You cannot control your weight. Weight is a byproduct of the balance of your lifestyle, the balance of all your eating and fitness habits. Focus on your habits, one by one.”

WAY TO GO!!!!! That is AMAZING! From the maintenance of the first loss to the recent progress this year - you're an inspiration! I'd be celebrating with a nice piece of jewelry or a fancy handbag!5 -
@seltzer_lover hubs is doing great, thank you for asking! Poor thing is damn near climbing the walls and hates Zoom University, so now that he's cleared to drive he's back to attending class in person. And yeah, I guess all my K-12 teachers and Girl Scout leaders were right that it pays to be proactive and prepared, LMAO.
@RobynS2814 welcome! I hope you find this group helpful, it's been invaluable to me over the past year. Good on ya for joining a gym ahead of the January rush - it's nice to have time to learn the ropes and figure out a routine before the place is overrun.
@justanotherloser007 congratulations!!! You're so inspiring, thank you for sharing your story in these threads.3 -

I had a stomach bug the last couple days, so not real sure if the weight this morning is due to dehydration or the last of the swoosh from Thanksgiving (this is about where I expected to be if I didn't see the post t-day bump), but will try not to get to disheartened if it goes back up a bit tomorrow now that I am feeling better. Trying to get back into the routine of a morning workout, but really struggling with it... time to buckle down and remind myself that this is just something I have to do.
Will be headed up to Seattle in Dec to spend time with my oldest daughter (the younger ones will be with their dad this year), which I am really looking forward to. I have never been, so I am trying to squeeze in as much as possible. Originally we were going to head up to Victoria, BC, but with my daughter having to work she won't have time to get the required Covid test so we are sticking with Washington. I plan on doing a whole lot of walking as I decided to cancel my car rental, so hopefully that will give me a generous calorie goal to work with to go with all the eating out I will be doing, lol.
Overall I am feeling pretty darn proud of myself for the progress I have made since starting MFP. It definitely hasn't always been easy, but it has gone much better than I thought it would. I think I will most likely be one of those people that have to track forever if I don't want to regain because I seem to be horrible at accurately estimating calories & portion sizes, but at least I know what works for me now. I am really looking forward to officially getting to that 50lbs down notice from MFP (apparently that will be at 236)!

Non-scale goals:
1. Consistently cook on Thursdays and Sundays so I can bring leftovers to work.
2. Walk the pup 30 minutes every day, weather permitting.
3. Transition to the next step down for inclined pushups
4. Get to 40 sit ups in a row
5. While visiting parents, walk with Dad every morning.
Ladies, I'm SO close to transitioning from obese to overweight! 3.5 pounds! I'm giving myself a range this month. 7.5 pounds is my stretch goal, but I will be satisfied if I lose more than 4.

@lmgoff232 have fun in Seattle! Hubs and I visited in October 2019. We did rent a car but mostly used it to visit a friend living in Everett - we took public transit otherwise, there was a metro station a couple blocks from the hotel and then we walked or took buses/the people-mover around the city proper. I hope the weather is nice for you! We lucked out and 6 out of 7 days were sunny and dry - the one day we did get that classic PNW all-day misty drizzle, a real grade-A gray day, was of course the day we went up the Space Needle. The underground tour is also really cool, and plenty of walking to boot! LMAO3

- Keeping working on decluttering the house
- Earn extra calories everyday but don't eat them back per my Fitbit Versa 2
- Don't over-do on my good day's
- Stay on track and under calorie budget every day!
- Post every day in my weight loss challenge group.
- Enjoy my NS victories.
- I really need to clean out my closet. I'm no longer an XXL and I'm never going to be again.
This time of year, is very stressful for me, we have our Anniversary on the 10th (32 years), then Christmas and his birthday is the week after Christmas, so I need to shop now due to the many delays. I've got some stuff already, but I need more stocking stuffers. So far, I have been true to myself and have not eaten over my calorie budget. I need to trust the process and not give up when the scale does not move.6 -
Well, I've done it now.
This summer, I'm flying in a very small floatplane to a remote part of Alaska.
On the information sheet where an accurate clothed weight was requested, I wrote 195.
I weigh 215 au naturel.
Wondering why I did this ???
First, I'm usually a very honest person, and second, thousands of $$$ are at stake!
If I'm 5 pounds over my declared weight, the pilot can deny me coming aboard and there's no refund!
So that's 20 pounds I must loose -- really 25, counting the clothes I'll be wearing.
And let's add another 5 pounds for safety, so 30 pounds in all.
I have until July 20.
That's reasonable, right?
I'm fairly sedentary, so I'll have to get myself moving.
And keep calories and carbs down, protein up...yada, yada.
I'm really glad to have found this forum -- you all sound like great motivators, and I'd sure appreciate
any advice.
Good luck to everyone!

Glad to have you here! That goal totally sounds reasonable. That's just below a pound a week, or 4 pounds a month.
What will you be doing in Alaska? It sounds exciting. I'd imagine if it's that remote, there won't be any cars. Maybe snow mobiles/ATVs.
Walking and gradually increasing the distance is a great, low impact exercise! I sometimes call and talk to a friend or relative on the phone (using earbuds) while walking through my neighborhood to help pass the time.
Anyhoo, glad you're here. Can't wait for updates.5 -
@Tahitig What is helping me the most right now is my new Fitbit Versa 2 (but any tracker might work.) I also live a very sedentary lifestyle. It's helping me to work toward those 3000 steps every day and I have it linked to MFP, so it tells me if I've earned extra calories for the day. I don't eat them back but it's nice to see them there. It's very motivating for me. It was well worth the $119 I never thought I needed one, but now that I have it, I don't know how I got along without it.
You weight goal is obtainable if you stay on track and count your calories. Since I joined MFP 110 day's ago, I've lost 30lbs6 -
Thank you both for the welcome and advice, kenziestabes and FushiaKat !
I'll check out the Fitbit Versa 2 and try to remember to bring my earbuds on my walks (a great idea).
Congratulations to you both.
FushiaKat, let's see...110 days is almost 16 weeks --so you've lost almost 2 pounds per week. WOW.
And kenziestabes, you've lost 34.5 pounds since mid-July? WOW again.
In Alaska, I'll be taking my mother on her 90th birthday in July to see the grizzly bears catching and eating the salmon at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park (no roads there so you must float-plane onto the shore).
Her bucket-list request makes me shiver; I appreciate grizzlies, but I'm not enthralled -- why couldn't she have chosen to see some dazzling hummingbird or rare orchid instead???
But I'm going to get this accomplished for her, and I'm sure it will be a special experience for us both.
Assuming I can board that plane at 195 fully clothed. ; )8 -

@tahitig - 30 pounds by July is absolutely doable! I've lost about that since the end of July, so just slightly over 4 months, losing at about 1.5 pounds per week. You have an even larger cushion so I don't see why this wouldn't be doable for you.

I tracked today, and I am going to finish out 6000 steps. I had a weird moment earlier today. I really did not want to eat. I was hungry in my body, but not "feeling" like messing with it. I did not want to overeat or eat poorly, and I was tempted just to skip dinner. Instead, I cooked 2oz of pasta, threw on some mixed vegetables, and made it a bowl of vegetable soup. I knew if I skipped dinner that I would just find a way to eat crap food later with the excuse that I had enough calories. Not today!!! One day at a time!7
