It was frigid here this morning but I took yesterday off because the wind was gale force. The whole first mile my entire lower body was telling me to stop stop stop. I felt like if someone had touched my hips or thighs with a hammer I would have shattered. Finally by mile 4 I felt like i could run normally.
brrrrrrrr
Any word MFP accepts qualifies as a new word for our running dictionary.😁😁😁3 -

At this point in my life, I'm not sure I could walk around the block without running out of breath. Could I still join in?
Absolutely!!!!! We'd love to hear from you!!0 -

I met a couple of friends at 5 this morning. It was a little breezy and the temp was 25F so not too bad if you were moving. I forgot to start my Garmin but they did so we managed to get 5 miles in before work.
@quilteryoyo – So impressed with your activity level considering all your health issues last year!
@shanaber – I think we need to recruit another member to our RTW team. I’m sure vacations and injuries (hopefully none, but, well, life...) will put more than one speedbump on our road. Anyone interested? @tramboman? We could use those sleazy miles of yours! Who else isn’t on our team?
I truly appreciate the offer, but as @kgirlhart can attest to, challenges tend to make me a little OCD crazy. I'm happy to cheer, but not ready to run.5 -
I have to pick up hubby at the airport today, and I knew I wouldn’t get in a run tonight, so I did a “scrappy” (great addition!) mile before work. It was awful, mostly because I was going off if 2 1/2 hours of sleep. But, my streak is alive for another day.
Speaking of cold, my office was freezing today. I wore my puffy jacket most of the day at my desk. I need to buy a new space heater. We are supposed to get snow/freezing rain tonight, so glad it is the weekend and I don’t have to drive tomorrow!6 -
@SummerSkier - love the addition of scrappy to our Running Dictionary!
@NBQANYMORE - welcome!
@marisap2010 - yay for picking up your hubby! I am sure you will be so happy to have him home!
I listened to this Sanjay Gupta podcast yesterday about expectations and the affect they have on your brain (even chemically). It is fascinating. So much so that I repeated several parts and may listen to it again. One part that resonated with me was when the guest he was interviewing talked about not being much of an athlete in school and his expectation was that he just couldn't be, didn't have the genes or whatever. Changing his expectations helped him to be able to workout better at the gym. As he said, he will never win a gold medal but changing his internal expectations helped immensely. When I was growing up I had to wear special orthotic shoes and had a difficult time walking in them let alone running. I hated having to run in PE class and continued to believe I could never be a runner. It wasn't until I was in my late 50's that I tried at the encouragement of my trainer at the time. I was amazed that I could actually do it a little bit and that changed my expectations and they continued to change as I was able to do more.
Anyways it is a good one and not too long if anyone is interested...

I just lost my entire post twice.
Had a crazy day. Can't type it out again. And Suunto didn't import it correctly so Strava didn't get it either.
Here's a link to the race promo video for the race I'm doing in February. I tried out the route today:

Looks like so much fun. But my recon adventure was NOT fun. Actually most of the route was great, but that part under the gondola lift was awful. I honestly don't ever want to do that again, but already paid for my entry... so too bad. I've gotta do it again in 3 weeks on race day.

@SummerSkier I love Scrappy for a run "name."
@Faebert Great running. Double your goal? That's awesome.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Great job with your cold morning run!
Welcome @NBQANYMORE ! Feel free to join in and report on the activity that you do. Start slow and easy and keep it up. In no time at all you'll find yourself doing a lot more than you thought you could and we'll be here to cheer you on.
Thanks @skippygirlsmom . I think mom and I are on the upswing of things and feeling better day by day. You had a great response to Skip. I'm sure she chose wisely.
@marisap2010 Glad you got your run in early, even if it was scrappy. Stay safe if you get freezing rain.
@polskagirl01 I can see how that area under the gondola would be really tough right now. I hope the conditions are a bit better in three weeks! It's pretty though.

@shanaber I will try and check out that podcast. I was also not at all athletic as a child, and always felt like the least fit and slim of three sisters. I never ever thought I would be able to run. It all changed for me in my late 30s when I got fit and I started running on my 40th birthday. I always wonder “what if” I’d had a more positive self-image when I was younger. I’m convinced that a huge part of physical fitness is about mindset.
Glad you’re feeling a bit better @quilteryoyo and hope it continues.
@polskagirl01 - even crawling in that kind of a landscape massively impresses me. I look at something like that and think how nice it would be to look at, from behind a window, while drinking hot chocolate… 😉
Went out and did 5km in quite damp and uninspiring conditions today. Have sore throat and sniffles so just really trudged my way through it out of stubbornness. Quite happy to be home, showered and drinking coffee while reading weekend papers.
Happy weekend everyone x

ohoh @Faebert sore throat and sniffles?!!!!!! I hope you are not getting round two. Good for you getting out there and really this month has been your best in a long time.
@polskagirl01 when I was in the military we had to do forced marches on the ski slopes. It was pretty awful for a gal with short little legs carrying a heavy pack trying to keep up. I can't imagine doing anything BUT crawling up that terrain with the heavy snow on it. Are you sure this wasn't a mountain climb vs run?
After yesterdays' scrappy morning run I decided that since it had warmed up to 40 f at lunch to put in another 2 miles ... I haven't come up for a word yet for sprinting the whole way and getting my hr up to 190 max but since we are getting a good vocabulary going I am sure there will be some ideas.4 -
Wow @polskagirl01 - was the lead guy in the video carrying an ax? I do like his coat!1

Mostly sunny, low single digits F, with just a touch of wind from the south. My phone weather app said it was -7 F, while my outdoor thermometer here said it was +3 F. Because of the lack of wind, it wasn't bad once I got warmed up. Saw a small flock of robins, some fresh deer tracks, and otter tracks, too.5 -
@Tramboman You are a beast to get out in those temps and run. Maybe that should be a "scold" run - slow and cold?
@SummerSkier That sound like a tough run. I've got nothing for our new vocabulary to describe it though.1 -

Me too @SummerSkier. All clear on lateral flow so fingers crossed it’s just a cold.
Sounds like you smashed it today. Quick and pacy - quacy?? Short and speedy - sheedy? Whatever, you rock! Well done for getting out for another 2 when it’s sooooo cold xx3 -

Nothing like a little snowshoe PT to get the blood pumping!!!
And I noticed I got my heart rate up to 195 today. Let's see: 220 minus my age (70) equals 150 times 80 percent equals 120...yeah, I think it was a good run.5 -
Those heart rate calculations basically tell anyone over 30 they can’t run. Lol. Not a good run @Tramboman A GREAT RUN! 🔥🔥🔥. I changed my workout up today a little. Waited until it warmed up to almost 40 f and did my grocery shopping early. Side note: why are people not wearing masks of the best they can get or at all? 😵💫🥺😵💫
Ran 4 miles hard and then did another 1 mile with alternating walk and jog keeping my heart rate over 120 but trying to stay under 160 also. It’s interesting how quickly it jumped back up when I started another jog segment. Anyway 5 total for run the world. I should make 120 for the month 90 total miles as of today.5 -
Nice running @SummerSkier ! I'm often surprised at how quickly my HR goes up after walking, but, it also goes down pretty quickly when I start walking, if it's not uphill.
I did some much needed housecleaning this morning. The vacuuming seemed to take a lot out of me, so I wound up just walking one mile instead of 2 as I had planned. I did walk on the driveway today. I needed a little dose of cold sunshine.3
