Got in 9 miles OUTSIDE this afternoon. It warmed up to a nice 48F with little wind. So shirts and short sleeve shirt was perfect. Tried to duplicate the pace of the treadmill, and after about 4 miles it felt like I was going about as easy. But still ended up more than 1:00 / mi faster. HR averaged in the upper 120s. I honestly don't think the treadmill is accurate. But it felt good to run outside again.

Wow @polskagirl01 - was the lead guy in the video carrying an ax? I do like his coat!
Yes, he's dressed in traditional mountain garb, and has an axe because he's representing the "Zbój" or robber/bandit that the race is named after.
@SummerSkier I log it as "Trail running, Mountain" in my watch, but by the time Strava gets it, it gets labeled as a run. I was able to run a bit on the flat & downhill sections, but my overall pace was hopeless even for a walk. I figure for my logging purposes, I want similar effort levels together, so this all goes in as trail running even though I'm not running all of it. I think this is normal in this type of trail running. Suunto app keeps it separate from regular "Running" (which I'm also slow at but not as much) so it doesn't mess up my stats too much. But as for crawling, I don't think that's an option in my watch, haha.3 -
@polskagirl01 That looks insane! I can just see myself tripping and sliding alllllll the way down.
@Tramboman Brrr! Those are some cold temps!
I ran 3 miles this morning. It was 34F, but it felt nice because the sun was out. I then got an aggravating phone call this afternoon and decided to go for an almost 3 mile walk to blow off some steam.

@Scott6255 If your HR stayed in the 120's, I'd say it was an easy paced run, regardless of whether it was the same as the treadmill or not. Sometimes I find it harder to run on the treadmill and sometimes it's easier. Sounds like you had great weather and it was just a great run!polskagirl01 wrote: »But as for crawling, I don't think that's an option in my watch, haha.
@marisap2010 Great run and sorry about the aggravating phone call. I often take walks in the back field and rant out loud when I'm frustrated like that. It really does help.

1/22- ran 3 mi. 18 miles for Jan so far. VO2 max up to 37.
I'm back after being out sick with Covid-like symptoms. Will try to run easy today for an 1.25 hrs.
I solutioned my shoe problem by putting the insoles from my brooks adrenaline into my brooks launch. Now I have the lighter weight shoes I want with the wider toe box and the insoles add a bit of firmness so I have better push-off and I'm not sinking into a deep pillow with every step. I don't know if this will work for a longer run, but will try it.10 -

Yesterday, I started my training for Peyton’s Wild n Wacky 50K. I’m part of a two-person team so I will only run 25K. Some of you may remember this race from previous years although they cancelled it last year. For those who don’t know about it, the race is comprised of running ten 5Ks every hour. You have to finish the 5k within the hour and you can’t start your next 5K until the start of the next hour. Since I’m part of a 2-person team, I will be running a 5K every two hours. The race is held in a county park near Charleston, SC. Everyone sets up tents, the organizers provide food all day, and it is one big running party all day long! So, yesterday, I ran 3.54 miles, did some errands, then ran another 3.2 miles, then waited about an hour and a half and walked 3.16 miles.
@summerskier – Surprisingly most of the people that I encounter in our grocery stores are masked up. However, last night was our local track club’s annual awards banquet. I’m on the Board so I felt obligated to go. A potluck dinner precedes the awards. Besides 4 or 5 other people, I was the only one wearing a mask and I felt like I was definitely judged. I still kept my mask on the entire time.
Hope you are feeling better @globalhiker.

Had about an inch of snow overnight and it was still snowing this morning, so knowing the roads had not been touched yet and being unwilling to risk my life, I opted for the treadmill. Really struggled at the beginning, and it wasn't until the last kilometer that I realized I had (somehow) jacked up the incline. Ah, the joys of maturity...7 -
@Teresa502 that race sounds like fun.
I "forgot" to run yesterday. Slept in, got busy with housework and was in the shower before it hit me that I was supposed to run before showering. Oops. I think my body tricked me. But today I felt like running, so went out for 5k - fast-ish on the one clear sidewalk, and whatever I could manage on the unplowed parts. Felt great. Usually those roads are empty, but today there were a bunch of people out for their Sunday afternoon walks. And one guy who I thought was standing by his car in the middle of nowhere staring at his phone, but when I came back past him the second time, I saw that it looked like a drone controller. The drone must've been too high to see/hear.6 -

I took a rest day Friday (and it was super cold). Yesterday was brutally cold at like -9 F again so I said no to running outside and many of us decided to do our long run today instead. I intended to go to the gym in the afternoon but ran out of time and willpower. Today my friend who is training for a February marathon had 20 miles scheduled and fortunately it was quite a bit warmer in the 20s. She decided to do 45 minute loops so she could be sure to hydrate and fuel at her car often enough without it all freezing. So she made a little sign up of times people could join her and we split up the task of keeping her company. I chose a late start at 10:15 am, which overlapped with several friends so we had a nice time catching up. The last 4 miles it was just she and I left, and I really would have quit myself except I didn't want to leave her to finish alone. So we slogged it out and she got a little over 20 to my little over 10. It was cold by the lake and the wind was tough half the time. It felt harder than last week's 10 miles. I think it's time for new shoes for one thing.

@globalhiker Glad you are feeling better and I hope the shoe fix works for you. I am recovering from Covid again myself.
@Teresa502 You know you are a runner when you say I am JUST running 25K! You did great getting in three sessions yesterday and that race sounds like a lot of fun.
@Tramboman Sorry, but I snickered at the fact that you didn't realize you were running on an incline until the end. Just made you work a little harder than you had intended.
@polskagirl01 I think your body knew what was best for you. Sounds like you had a nice run today.
@katharmonic So nice of you and your friends to keep your friend company for her 20 mile run. You did great to get 10 in in those conditions.
@Faebert I hope you feel better and dodge the C bullet.
@AlphaHowls I must have missed why your ribcage is sensitive. Did you fall? I hope you start feeling better soon. You are still killing it.3 -
Out of an abundance of caution, mom and I stayed home from church today. So, I was able to get my walk and run in while I watched on Facebook. I had intended to run 2.5 miles, like I did last week, but my body felt like 2 miles was pushing it, so I listened and stopped and did a longer cool down walk to make up for it. I did half a mile warm up walk and 1.0 mile cool down walk at 3.8 mph. I did a run/walk for 4/1 minutes at 4.6/3.8 mph for 2 miles, which took exactly 27:00 minutes. I also did all of my back exercises. Glad I was able to get that done before lunch.
I entered my data into RTW and we are nearing Linz, Austria. Only 33 miles behind goal, so that's not horrible. We'd love for someone else to join us to help pick up the slack. Any takers?5 -

I think I only posted it on Strava, but 1/10/2022, it appears I had a intercostal muscle strain - twisting from specific yoga postures.
It was actually a violent (to me) pop in my right side rib. I felt like I had been kicked while I was down. Sneezing/coughing/laughing/blowing my nose and rolling over in bed get my attention.

That's what I was thinking too about @Teresa502 only doing 25k. That sounds like a fun thing to do as a pair. Still exhausting but much more doable than solo! You'll be awesome.
@AlphaHowls sorry about the ribs, that's so painful. It takes a while to feel better and those things you mention are not so easy to avoid. Be sure to push yourself to continue to do slow deep breathing exercises to prevent chest infections and collapsed lung.
@quilteryoyo good job listening to your body and stopping at two miles.
@faebert hope you escape COVID. It's hard to do these days. The discussion earlier in this thread about feeling like a unicorn for avoiding it so far is how I feel too. I wonder how it will go with our new semester starting tomorrow though.
4 -
Yikes @AlphaHowls ! That sounds really painful. I don't know how you keep up those HMs everyday. I do hope it feels better soon. Is there anything they can do to help it heal?

@katharmonic
Aye, deep breathing is my friend at this point.@quilteryoyo wrote: »Yikes @AlphaHowls ! That sounds really painful. I don't know how you keep up those HMs everyday. I do hope it feels better soon. Is there anything they can do to help it heal?
In answer to your other question, on how I keep up with those HMs everyday: I have done it so long, it is part of me. In my head, unless I am dead, it is something I do daily, without much regard on 'how I feel'.
@Teresa502
Thank you6 -
Supposed to run yesterday but it was still freezing so we did a token mile and a half brisk walk bundled in coats, then lifted. Much warmer today! Ran 5k walked 4 miles. Husband breathing much better with his meds! I’m very slow and out of shape after a month of not running much, we gotta start building up our mileage again.
I’ve been reading everyone’s posts, even when I don’t comment!

I waited until it warmed up this morning to run, and I ended up being a little warm by the end. But it was OK. It was 46°F at the start as 57°F at the end. I wore capri leggings and a t-shirt with sleeves. I should have gone ahead and wore shorts. It was a pretty day and even though I was slow, it was a good run. The only dog I saw running loose was a puppy that came running out of his yard. He put his feet up on my knees and just looked at me like he wanted to go with me. There was a young man next door playing basketball so I asked him if he would distract the puppy so it wouldn't follow me. I kind of wanted to take him home with me, but I didn't.
5 -
@AlphaHowls You are a beast. Sounds like you are doing everything you can to feel better. I hope your muscle heals quickly.
@rheddmobile Glad the meds are helping your DH and that you were able to get out for a 5K run and nice walk after.
@kgirlhart Sounds like a nice run. The puppy sounds so adorable. I hope he went back home.

A nominal rest day, so I just did treadmill to make up for yesterday's treadmill instead of outside run. Our senior moment was listening to Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces" at the beginning and not starting our watch. Saw a scarlet tanager out the kitchen window post run -- first one I've seen here and the first one I've ever seen with snow on the ground.5 -

My plan said 35 minutes of some sort of cross training, and the roads looked a bit treacherous for cycling. So I decided it was time to check out a local pool and swim some laps. It went well, but only gave me 200-something calories and now I'm tired. Hmm. Do you burn more calories if you don't know what you're doing on any of the strokes?6

Every time one can get out of the water without assistance is a win in my book.6 -
Bleurgh still full of cold and stuffed up. So much so that despite the lateral flow tests being ok work colleagues suggested I go and get a PCR test. Hopefully will hear back soon. In the meantime it’s treadmill trudging for me but trying to keep the streak alive!

@Faebert Probably a good idea to get the PCR test. I think there are quite a few false negatives with the rapid tests. I was told by a doctor that if you are having symptoms and take the rapid test and it comes back positive, you definitely have it. If it comes back negative, you really don't know for sure. I hope the PCR test comes back negative too and you "just" have a cold, which I hope clears up soon. Great job on keeping the streak up, even when you really don't feel like it.
It was great weather here this afternoon. It got up to 48°F, but cloudy. I drove my Gator down to mom's to haul some wood from the barn for her wood stoves and then came home and did my mile walk on the driveway. It's going to cold again toward the end of the week, so I need to take advantage and enjoy it while I can.4 -
6 miles this evening. First 3 miles felt 'sneasy', then 2nd 3 felt easy. Weird because average HR stayed basically the same for the whole 6 miles.
Rain started just as I was finishing 🙂
