@noblsheep - thanks for checking in! Been thinking about you and hoping you were doing well. Hope work settles down to where you can if you feel like running again. Cycle commuting is a great way to get a workout in when you don't have much time!
@Scott6255 - How is your back/side feeling? Great job getting some decent runs and speed work in despite the pulled intercostal muscle!
@RunsOnEspresso - I am so impressed with you and others who get up so early to run. Even when I was working I couldn't get out that early. Now I am 'early' if I am out before 10am 😂
Great to have you back @7lenny7! Love the pictures of Kody! He looks like he is doing really well for a 14yo! Hope your feet continue to improve!
@polskagirl01 - hope you are doing well with getting your guests situated into more long term housing.
I went out for a run today (not early 😊) and ended up with a slow wun. I wasn't sure how much I would be able to actually run as everything was hurting and I really felt like a slug. I ended up running more than I thought but in short spurts. I was surprised when I looked at Strava that the running bits were much faster than I thought and made me realize that I really need to slow down to get back to running more. I am very close to my goal for the month - just needed 0.75 mile to hit it. So I am hoping the 100 mile club is in reach this month. I do have my appointment with the ortho to review my shoulder MRI on Tuesday and am anxious to find out what he thinks will be necessary.
When I was out today a song came up on my playlist I haven't listened to in a while - Beautiful World by The Chevin (2012). With all that is going on in the world these days it really hit home for me and also made me think about what a wonderful group we have here, of people from all over the world with different backgrounds. From what I have experienced that seems to be true for runners in general.8 -
Got out again this morning & it was really good! We are having a lovely spell of weather which supposed to last until next Thursday.

Hi @7lenny7! Great to hear from you again! Sorry about your feet, but sounds like you are doing the right things to get better. Kody looks great! I have had two labs in my adult years, and both made it to 14 before passing. Kody looks like he has many more years ahead of him.
My intercostal muscle strain seems to be healing well. I just have to keep myself from sneezing for the next month or so and I will be golden I have tried yoga in the past, but didn't stick with it for very long (just didn't have the patience). But maybe I should give it another try. Although, I think that's what caused @AlphaHowls intercostal muscle strain!6 -
Nice run @Scott6255 . I love fartleks. I hope you don't sneeze, or cough!
Glad you had a good run after having to make yourself get out and get started @kgirlhart . It often happens that way.
Great running @martaindale ! Enjoy your recovery run.
That is too early for me too @RunsOnEspresso . You did great.
@Mari33a Nice that you are doing what you can when the week is crazy! Some days need to be longer than 24 hours.
Glad to see you back @7lenny7 ! Smart to DNS this weekend's ultra. Better to take care of yourself. I hope your feet get completely back to normal soon. Kody is adorable. Glad he is still doing okay and wanting to hunt. That sandlot marathon looks "interesting." I think the cold and snow would do me in. Looks like there aren't many people who participate. I guess it would be harder if there were a lot. And, yes, @AlphaHowls would fit right in.
I'm with you @shanaber on 10am being an early run! Yeah for meeting your goal already. I hope you get good news from your ortho next week. Slowing down may be the key for you right now. You are doing great to get out there when your arm hurts so much.1 -
I used to run after work in winter and 8ish pm in the summer when I was single. 🤣
10 am is great, in winter. I would die in summer. I tried a few times to go later lastt summer once I acclimated and it was too hot to do more than 2 miles.
Work and commute also means I gotta get it in early. I don't like it. I'd rather sleep but 🤷🏼♀️ I feel like when I run before coffee my pace suffers.4 -
4/1 – 5.41 miles
4/4 – 4.21 miles
4/5 – 5.37 miles
4/6 – 4.56 miles
4/8 – 3.17 miles
4/9 – 6.32 miles
4/11 – 5.02 miles
4/13 – 5.76 miles
4/19 – 5.07 miles
4/21 – 5.23 miles
Total 50.10/90 miles
I had the hardest time getting out of bed this morning. Mornings like these make me glad I have the accountability of meeting friends to run with plus the goals and support from you all!
Welcome back @7lenny7! It’s so good to hear about Kody. He is so handsome! You can tell he is happy out in the fields. Sorry about the foot issues. That was very generous of you to volunteer your weekend at the Zumbro Endurance Run. Sounds like fun. I remember reading about the Sandlot Marathon when you were considering it before. I had completely forgotten about it!
Good to see you too @noblsheep – We’ve missed you!

I feel you! If I had my druthers, I would prefer to run around 9-10 am, after breakfast. But, work and weather keeps me early. Once the sun comes up, it is just painful. I also get up 45 mins or so before I run so I can get a touch of caffeine. Otherwise, I will get a headache on my run as my body realizes it never got its morning caffeine bump. I have shifted to verb bars, which are small 90 cal bars with an espresso worth of caffeine in them. Then I can also have some water. Seems to take me less time to get out the door and my stomach likes a touch of food before I run.

I really appreciate you guys too! Everyone is so supportive and happy to talk about whatever running brings. My husband does his best, but he doesn't really care and I'm sure gets tired of listening to me after a while!6 -

Recovery run this morning. Kept it really easy though I'm not sure I could have mustered anything faster even if I tried. My legs were so tired! This was my 5th day in a row running and I felt it. Rest day tomorrow and I have a massage scheduled. And it was officially summer weather at 73F with 98% humidity. Boooo! I have a 5k time trial on my plan for this Saturday. I will try, but I don't have high hopes for a good time with the weather like this.

@martaindale At least if you have a slow 5K trial and the weather is better the next time, at least you know you will show some improvement!1

I usually have just enough time to eat a honey stinger waffle, take a few sips, change and head out the door. I always try to opt for more sleep 😆😆😆2 -

Started a Garmin coach programme again as I like the little nudge to go out and run. Today I took it very slow as I really wanted to reach the 5km. And I did.
Realized on Monday that it's really time to replace my running shoes. I started using these in 2016 (don't judge) and yeah, the sole isn't quite good anymore. I still had another pair of the same from the same time in my wardrobe. Did one longer run with them back then and ended up with a huge blister on my heal that got infected. I can't see what's wrong with that one shoe, but I'm trying to break them in slowly, with little walks to the supermarket. Maybe i can still use them. I hope as I can't wear most shoes due to dodgy feet.5 -
@yirara Congratulations on making 5K this morning! Shoes are so individual. I hope you can find what works best for you.

43.05/70 miles
Yesterday I did a 25 minutes Foundation Run on the driveway. I went out instead of the treadmill because I wanted an excuse to be slow. LOL Turned out it was faster than the day before and a little easier. I wanted to keep my HR below 143 bpm, but that wasn't going to happen - one of those days, but I did manage to keep it under 153 bpm, which is my backup easy pace.
Today, after a dentist appointment, I went out for my scheduled run - Speed Play. Today was 10 min easy, 5 x (1 min Zone 5/2 min zone 1), 5 minutes easy. I ran the Zone 5 runs as fast as I thought I could maintain for a minute. I probably could have ran a little bit faster. They were mostly between 10:40 and 9:35 min/mile pace. The last one I ran all out and managed between 9:15 and 8:32 min/mile pace for that one minute. I ran a total of 2.30 miles in 31:07 minutes and walked 0.70 miles total for warm up and cool down. I rested for a little less than an hour and then went down to help mow mom's lawn. I rode their little riding mower, mom pushed all she could, and William, neighbor, did the weed eating. We took a break and then I finished the push mowing and he finished the riding mower. The push mowing I did took 23:57 minutes and is included in the total. I didn't count the riding mower, since I was riding. Busy day though and I'm opening at daycare in the morning - up at 4:30 to get to work by 6:30. I hope I can get to bed a little bit earlier tonight.

Thanks for the birthday wishes @7Lenny7! It is good to have you back. I'm glad Kody is well.
Today's run was pretty good. It was warm and windy again and I ran my usual 5 mile run. I have never been a morning person, but a few years ago I started getting up early to run before it gets too hot. I would rather run about 7 am, but I need to get out by 5:30 or so if I want to have time before work. It takes me at least 45 minutes to wake up, drink a cup of coffee and get my contacts in and get dressed so I usually get up around 4:15 - 4:30. I do like getting my run in first thing, but if you had told me 10 years ago that I would wake up at 4:30 so I could run I would never have believed that.
Tomorrow is a rest day and then on Saturday I am running a local 10K. It is one I ran last year. I hope I run well, but it will be my first race since I had covid and I still don't quite have the stamina I had last year. Plus the forecast is calling for 18 mph winds. 😕 So we will see. But it should be fun and it raises money for a local charity that helps abused kids.
6 -
@kgirlhart I'm with you on not being able to get up and out the door. I, too, have to take time to wake up, have a cup of coffee, go "potty," and then get dressed and out the door. I might be more tempted to get up early if there was a good place to run at that time of day, but I don't think I would want to run on the treadmill and outside on my road just doesn't feel like an option. If I can get out the door by 7 or so during the summer, I'm okay. That I can do. Good luck with your 10K tomorrow. Racing in those winds won't be fun, but hope you can enjoy the experience.1

REST DAY!! I need this so bad! I have a massage booked after work and then happy hour with a couple of friends. I was supposed to go climbing last night but my stomach was grumbling and I really didn't want to have issues 30ft in the air! So, I stayed home and that was nice too.4

I’m working from home today so I was able to go out for a run around 6:15 and watch the sky come to life during my run. I love that it is getting daylight earlier.
Good luck with your 10K tomorrow @kgirlhart!

Enjoy your rest day and massage @martaindale!
Good luck on your 10K @kgirlhart.
8 miles this morning. Was 100% humidity and very warm. Legs felt heavy, mind did too. Just a meh run.

@shanaber @Mari33a @Scott6255 @quilteryoyo @Teresa502 @kgirlhart thanks for the welcome!
8 miles of beautiful trail for me yesterday, on a perfect 55F and sunny day which gets to me to 63/90 miles for the month. I got a bit red on my neck. I guess it's time to think about sunscreen now.
The run was in a state park near the lake where we keep our boat. You can see the lake in some of the photos below. Being early on a Thursday, there wasn't a lot of people out there. The leaves haven't started coming out yet so everything was rather brown but it was still a beautiful run.
I started the run with a hit of pain and swelling but a mile in the pain had was gone. At 6 miles in I could feel just a bit of swelling in my right foot (it weird but my feet seem to pass the swelling back and forth...rarely are they both affected at the same time) but no pain and I had 2 miles left to get back to my truck, so I kept going. They currently feel pretty good so I'll call it a win. Rest/core day today then back to the trails tomorrow.
After the run I went to check on our boat and get the shrink wrap off. They didn't have power or water available yet so I couldn't wash and wax the hull or paint the bottom so I headed home earlier than planned, but it did give me time to stop at a dive bar I've always wanted to check out, and enjoy a beer and meatloaf sandwich.7 -
@Scott6255 I looked up what the intercostal muscle is and I don't think the yoga posses that helped my back (lower back) would help for that. 100% humidity sounds awful. I'm not looking forward to that part of summer.
@quilteryoyo at the Sandlot Marathon there were only 15 in the full marathon and 18 in the half. There were four full field available and three were being used so the course congestion wasn't bad at all.
@kgirlhart have a great race Saturday!
@martaindale you really know how to have a good rest day!4
