@polskagirl01 NTA. I always tell people to be weary of jobs that have you do any unpaid work esp before hire or jobs that make you pay to start up. That job sounds like the are certainly preying on those in a bad situation1

Definitely NTA and all of this ^^^ @polskagirl01!!0 -
I got a pretty good run/walk today using my 60/40 intervals without the pup. He was tired so I took him for a brisk 'warmup walk' for me then dropped him at home. After I started on my solo run I ran into a puppy that I thought was off leash with his owners but in hindsight I think the guy was hurrying to get away from him. He was a maybe 7-8 mo GSD or Malinois with a collar and no tags. I was worried that he would follow me out of our neighborhood and onto the main road. I was taking pictures and was going to take him home while trying to find his home when a neighbor who knew 'Rocky' pulled up. Apparently his owners don't take good care of him and he gets out all the time. He was just the sweetest boy and really just wanted some attention and love. We loaded him into the cab of the neighbor's truck and he took him for a drive and then home. I felt so bad for that puppy, just makes me wonder why people get pets and then don't bother with them...
Made my stretch goal and into the 100 mile club today. Currently sitting at 105 miles and should add on a few more tomorrow. Will post my summary for the month after tomorrow's run.6 -

@martaindale Good luck on your 10K next month. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and you'll surprise yourself. Thanks for the info on cadence too. I don't have a very long stride, so doubt that is an issue for me. LOL Glad you ran into Hank. Sorry that the trail was in such bad shape though.
@RunsOnEspresso I second @martaindale 's suggestion on nutrition - esp pre, post, and during a race - long run. I feel I am really lacking in this aspect of training and why I was so wiped when I ran my HM last year.
Great run @yirara . And wonderful about the steps. I find that even at my fittest I have a hard time with stairs.
You are doing great @SummerSkier . It's hard to believe this is already the last day of April!
@polskagirl01 I agree. You are NTA. That does sound like they are trying to take advantage of the desperate situation. Shame on them and good for you for helping your guests avoid that trap.
Glad you were able to get out and run @shanaber . Also glad someone stopped for the puppy. I too wonder about people who get a pet and then basically ignore them. I have some neighbor's like that. It makes me sad when I see all of the dogs they have that get what seems like no attention. Congrats on the 100 mile club too!
You continue to amaze me @AlphaHowls !

@polskagirl01 way to go sticking up for your guests!
@AlphaHowls you are such an amazing, accomplished, strong, etc.... person! 4 year running streak (and most of it at 13+ miles)!!!!!!!!!!! Totally bada$$!
13.1 miles this morning for me. This was the most relaxed, comfortable long run in a long time. Didn't feel like I was riding the struggle bus at any time, and felt like I could keep going. Just have to keep reminding myself to stay relaxed and run like I am training, not racing. Lifting knees higher and driving down to hit under hips kept my shins from hurting. Almost hit 120 miles this month even with missing a few days with my ICM strain, so happy about that.
Has anyone started next months thread?9 -
@Scott6255 You’re doing great figuring out how to balance the mileage with injury prevention. 120 miles is a feat!3

Goal met with my last run of the month! I froze some water in the bladder of my hydration vest as suggested by @skippygirlsmom in preparation for a mid 70’s humid run this morning. It was really nice having the cold vest on my back and cold water to drink. It lasted for about 6 miles before all the ice melted. Definitely will be doing that for my summer runs.
I was supposed to do 6 miles at long run pace then the last 2 approaching 10k race pace. I had my doubts about accomplishing that the second I stepped outside. When mile 7 rolled around, I really tried to find some speed and despite my best efforts, only dropped 15 secs off my pace. Nowhere close to a 10k race pace. Or even a HM pace. At that point I decided the additional effort wasn’t benefiting me so I might as well slow it down to let my HR recover. Overall the run was good and one of the longer ones I have done in the heat. I am sort of dreading having runs this long routinely through the summer but it will be character building. And hopefully give me a heck of a fall glow-up!4 -
02.4: 3.0km in 25 min
08.4: 4.2km in 34 min
11.4: 4.3km in 35 min
12.4: 5.0km in 40 min (plus few seconds)
14.4: 3.5km in 30 min
18.4: 1.1km benchmark run
19.4: 3.6km in 30 mins, 20 second stride repeats
21.4: 5.0km in 42 mins, slow run
24.4: 1.609km in 12 mins
25.4: 4km in 33 min
27.4: 5.5km in 46 min
29.4: 3.7km in 30 minutes, 10 stride repeats, 20s
30.4: 6.44km in 52 minutes, 4 miles
Total: 51km
Had the spontaneous idea to run 50km this month, and the counter was at 44.5km this morning. Looking at my runs this month I figured 5.5km should be possible, with 6km as stretch goal, just because. And once I'd finished 6km I decided to drag myself on for another 440m to get to 4 miles. Did it. Breathing wise it wasn't as good as yesterday, but I'm super proud of myself now.8 -
Thank you all for the encouragement.Having slept on it, I'm now even more convinced that the job would only present yet another trauma into the lives of the children and moms. They're already far away from their dads/husbands/family/friends/homes, we definitely don't need to separate moms & kids now, too.I got up early to wake up son for his fishing trip, and then timed my long run (HM distance) to meet up with girls from running club for a forest run in the middle. My legs are still rubbery from yesterday's bike+swim, but fortunately they didn't go too fast. I definitely slowed down on the 6k home though, then immediately made food and started eating. Then I took a nap. I'm currently "on track" on the marathon training plan (finished week #4 of 18), but need more mountain time.
Made a new little friend, and everything is getting greener by the day.
The yellow rapeseed flowers are starting to come up. Still mostly green for now, though.6 -

@Scott6255 I'm glad you are figuring out how to keep your shins from hurting. Awesome run today and congrats on 120 miles for the month!
@martaindale That workout sounds like a brutal one, regardless of the weather. You did great to get the mileage in and forget about the extra pace. Congrats on making your mileage goal too.
Congratulations @yirara ! You should be proud of yourself. That is awesome.
Great run @polskagirl01 ! Love your bee friend and all the dark green.
Thanks for setting up May @Scott6255 !3 -
Wow @AlphaHowls ! Amazing!
Congratulations to all who made their goal!
@shanaber I am glad you got help with the Pup. I also never understand why some people get pets and then totally ignore them.3 -

I haven't posted my runs for the last couple of days. I have fallen a bit short of my goal, but am happy to say that I have managed to stay on track with my 10K plan for 3 weeks with only pulling the cross training card 4 times and all but one of them I had either played tennis or mowed the lawn on those days.
Today's run was not an easy one. My HR stayed below 144 bpm, as planned and my breathing was okay - I used my inhaler after my warm up walk. But, my legs just didn't want to move, so it was a struggle just to get one foot in front of the other. Then around the 2 mile point my heart decided to have palpitations, so I had to stop for a few minutes to let that calm down so I could continue on. It wasn't my best day, but my pace was faster than it has been for my Foundation Runs (partly because I wasn't on the driveway). I'll call that a win.
See you all on the May thread.7 -
9.5 miles yesterday evening at a nearby state park. The first 8 miles were identical to a run from the previous week and though it didn't feel any faster, I finished that portion 10 minutes faster, probably because it felt a lot cooler.
This was one of those run which highlighted why I love trail running. The peacefulness of the trail, the wildlife, beautiful scenery. I kicked up a dozen deer, saw a bald eagle soaring in circles above me, a pelican flying above, saw a big hawk, several other small critters and only 2 other people.
The run was entirely in the rain, which started just as I pulled into the parking lot. Gentle at first, it was a downpour by the time I finished. It was nearly 60F when I started and down to 50F when I finished. The rain felt absolutely great during the run but when I got back to my truck, I knew I'd cool down quickly. Since I was soaked to the bone, I had to figure out how to dry off, warm up, and minimize the the water I brought into my truck.
Every thing I was wearing was heavy with rain and since there was only one other car in the lot, with the drivers no where to be seen, I stripped down to my underwear outside, then jumped into the driver seat. After a bit of internal debate I took off my wet underwear and dried off as much as I could with a small towel I had with me, praying all the while that the park ranger wouldn't show up, nor would the driver of the other car in the lot. Pushing my luck I just sat there with the heat on and fan on high until I dried off enough to get dressed. Thankfully no one showed ever showed up and I was able to get on my way without incident.
Tonight I need to get some laundry going and get out there for a few miles. I was going to hit the trails again but I'm feeling lazy and will likely just go around the neighborhood.

Great running. I had to laugh at your dilemma with the wet clothes though. When you said what the temps were I was thinking that I would have been freezing. Glad you were able to get dried and home without incident.2
-
Haha. Funny rain story. I hate running in the rain but I always seem to run faster too.1
-
@AlphaHowls - you are so amazing! I think I asked on Strava if there was somewhere that tracked not just the streak but the miles per run or total miles? I know you must be close to completing your run around the earth if you haven't already and are onto another cycle around.
@polskagirl01 - I definitely agree that the moms and kids do not need to be separated further and possibly more traumatized. I hope they can earn enough with their baking to help them feel a little independent w/o having to be away from their kids all day.
I love the pictures from your run! So beautiful and that is one big bee! Spring is one of my favorite times of year with all the buds coming out.
@7lenny7 - That is so funny! So glad the Park Ranger didn't show up or the owner of the other car. I love a good rain run, but most of mine are close to home so I can just run there and have my husband hand me a towel. I do often jump in the pool in the summer heat in my running clothes and then strip down (wrapped in a towel) before going in the house. No rangers to worry about but a couple of neighbors who would probably be frightened 😂
Thanks for setting us up for May @Scott6255!

Answered you on Strava, I did not know, but sure would love one! I know Strava has a few groups of folks who run high mileage.
2502.42 miles from home! I might make it home by October 2022!
22399.48 miles to date around the earth!
6 -
@AlphaHowls - I am sure there must be one out there knowing how runners and streakers are about keeping track of things!
Final mileage for me for the month...
3 -
You did great for the month @shanaber ! In the summer, when the leaves are on the trees, I'm isolated enough that I have been known to strip outside when I am especially nasty from mowing or whatever and swishing off at the outdoor faucet.3
-
Great job everyone!
I ended up not running yesterday after all for a variety of reasons but perhaps the main reason is that I just felt wore out. On to May!
5 -
I just made it into the 100-mile club for April!
Plus 3900m swimming and 112km cycling. I only recorded 1 strength training session, mostly because the furniture in the garage pushed 2 bicycles into my gym. They're out now, so back to it!
See you in May!8 -

Oh gosh, another month that did not go as planned. My goal was to do better than last month, which I thought was a low bar, and yet I was almost 20 miles under last month.
I am committing to putting this slide to a stop in May. I'll see you all in that thread. Great job everyone.5 -
Great running @7lenny7 !
Yeah for the 100 mile club @polskagirl01 ! Plus all the other stuff.
You still did great @katharmonic !1 -
Ended April with 56, about 9 short of my 65 goal. I would have had 60 but moved my Sat run to Sun so that went to May 🤣4
