I am type 2 diabetic that is controlled with diet & exercise only. I got down to 195 lbs a while back and, unfortunately, put 50lbs back on. My goal for May is to get my fasting blood sugar back down so that I won't have to go onto medication.
Goal for each week:
walk at least 4 days a week
Zumba at least 2 days a week
Goal by end of month:
fasting blood glucose below 140 by month end (hopefully)

Well today I am thrown off since I found out that my 95 y.o. mother has tested positive for COVID 19 today and is symptomatic which isn’t good since she has CPOD and congestive heart failure. And we all met Sunday for mother’s day. At that time we had all tested negative and those of us who could had the 2nd booster, but not my Mom. Her retirement community scheduled their boosters next week. So although she didn’t get from us she may have given it to us. She had tested negative the day before and wasn’t symptomatic until after the gathering. My son and daughter-in-law had seen her the day before but they always wear N95 masks. When I called her this afternoon she said she felt better. I am going to get tested Friday morning. Since it was a 1 time exposure they said we don’t need to quarantine but should wear masks in public settings which I do anyway.
I am not being as rigid about my To-do-list today but I just went for a longer walk than usual. I felt good and it helps to clear my mind - even got a talk in with my son. As expected my weight has finally popped up a bit but this high is a lot lower than my last highs. I am hoping I will reach a new low later this week since I am sticking with my goals. I did meal plan yesterday but just don’t feel like going shopping today of all days with COVID rates going up and protective measures going down.8 -
Good morning everyone!
Got a drop in weight out of the blue, which was nice. 186.8. I mean, I've been doing what I'm supposed to do, just wasn't expecting this one.
Last night I made a greek rice bowl for my family, I had minimal rice, and today I'm making shrimp fried rice for my family, and I'll replace my rice with cauliflower rice, mostly. Might have a little rice in there.
Also last night, I made a plan with a friend of mine to do a beginner pole fitness class not this Saturday, but the next one. I've always wanted to try to do pole, and I'm excited about it.
It's hump day, I'm so looking forward to the weekend. It's still so cold here, unfair. And it's been gray the last several days, and I think it's supposed to rain this weekend.
Anyway, tag party!
@JAC581 I hate a time crunch like that. Mojo that everything works out in plenty of time. And hey- a 15 minute walk is better than no walk at all, so don't beat yourself up, because rest is important for weight loss, too. If you're too tired, you get hungrier.
@justanotherloser007 I'm so sorry you're going through this, it sounds terrible. ((hugs))
@77topcat Increasing activity is great! Once you start tracking well, you'll really start to see movement on that scale!
@swimmom_1Can't seem to get motivated to do situps and pushups to help that area tone up.
@pamperedlinny Hi Linda! Zumba is a blast, I love that for your exercise! Welcome!
@KeriA ((hugs)) that is a whole lot. I don't know if you're doing this, but if you are, please don't blame yourself for your mom getting COVID, you took all the precautions you possibly could. I do the same- wear a mask everywhere in public, don't go into high traffic areas during peak times, etc, so that I know I'm not increasing my daughter (who can't get vaccinated yet)'s risk. Mojo that your mom continues to improve, and that you stay testing negative. Sending my best wishes.
Have a great Wednesday, everyone!

Good morning!
My daughter finished her sports for the season so I told her she had to come to Zumba with me. She's 8 and just finished soccer while planning to do basketball in the winter. I informed her this was a great way for her to keep her fitness level up between sports. She seemed to have fun and taking her with me means she can help keep me accountable to go.
@CupcakeCrusoe unexpected drop in weight is always such a great surprise!
@KeriA I hope your mom is ok. I'm so sorry you're going through that.6 -
Good morning! Off cycle check in here, but I just wanted to share that I am finally in the "overweight " BMI category! Started July 2021 in class 3 obese. Feeling fantastic and can't stop checking myself out, lol. When I started I was a size 35 (US 18/20) in jeans, and though it took nearly 50 lbs before I dropped that first size, I am definitely seeing them drop faster now, and fit into a size 31 (US 12/14 depending on brand). I am so, so happy I found MFP, and this group in particular. And can I say how weirdly happy it makes me to see most of my numbers yellow or green instead of red (only 1 red left). Next goal: ONEderland!

I had 4 cesareans over the time span of 6 years, the first 3 being each only a little over a year apart from each other. My last was in 2016. I've known that my stomach muscles were weak, barely there, and my back muscles have been taking on more than their fair share. But yesterday I realized just how bad it is. I tired Pilates for the first time in 12 years... So painful. Not only was I yelling at the TV but I felt so weak and deterred. It was my foolishness thinking because I used to & could imagine myself doing it again it was just going to be that easy. After I got done scolding myself for letting myself be in this situation I decided... I'm adding getting through the whole damn Pilates video to my goals. I don't know if it'll happen this month, next, or July even but I will get through that whole stupid video without cursing the instructor & doing the whole thing without breaks. I will find these damn abdominal muscles and I will make them work again!!!8

Good morning everyone!
Weight 187.0 this morning.
I'm having such a hard time recognizing being in the 180s again, and I don't know why. I feel like I'm going to pop back into the 190s at any moment, even though my trend weight is firmly 189.
I've been at this range of weight many times in my life. But I feel like I'm bigger than what the scale says, and I'm still wearing all the clothes I was wearing when I was bigger. Except for at my highest weight, when I wore 13/14 jeans (yes, I wore junior size to cling to the size below), and when I lost weight and briefly fit into 6s and 8s, I've always been 10/12, and I still am. Of course, all my pants have a lot of stretch, so they can conform to me either way.
Maybe it's time to pull down my like, one pair of 8s and start trying them on every so often, haha.
In better news, due to my logging everything, even "stolen" hershey kisses from easter, MacroFactor is realizing I lose weight on like, 1700 calories a day, and has adjusted my expenditure to 2168 (and it could still increase), which is more in line with the other calculations I've done.
It's also just really nice to finally have it drilled into my head that yeah, you can have more than 1500/1600 and the world's not ending. I had to go through the same a long time ago about 1200, now going through it with 1500. And it's all about logging everything so I know what I'm doing. That's all. Finding out I can have more food than I realized and still lose weight is beautiful.
Anyway! Tag party!
@pamperedlinny aww, I love the idea of going to zumba with your kid! That's so nice.
@lmgoff232 yesss 🎉🎉🎉 congratulations! Onederland will be yours soon! And what is that app you've got there, inquiring minds want to know. 👀
@Generic_Excuse Patience with yourself is key, so I'm glad you've taken the stance that it might take a little while longer than you'd like. There are some good exercises in here, and although it's written for people closer to post-c-section, the exercises would probably help you, too-especially things like the posterior lift and heel slides: ETA: this one first: postpartumtrainer.com/diastasis-recti-exercises/ then this one, probably: postpartumtrainer.com/a-simple-post-c-section-workout-plan-for-busy-moms/ I've been through it, and so I know that you've got this.
Have a great Thursday, everyone!

@CupcakeCrusoe thanks! I'll for sure check those out. I'm definitely trying to be patient for sure. Funny how wallowing in self deprication can be easier than motivating yourself sometimes. I just got to keep the right mine set.2

Hey everyone! So sorry for the radio silence. It has been a very active week at work and at home. Yesterday was my birthday too. I behaved very well and didn't go over my calories. It was nice to go out even with 2 crazy kids. For my birthday my husband bought me a new bike from a sport store. The one I had was from the clearance section in Walmart. I'm so happy! I also saw a drop down in my weight yesterday so I guess that was a gift to myself. The only dent in the day was the half day at work with conflict with someone that I just can't seem to get along with. I hate being unlinked by people which I suppose is very vain of me because no everyone can like you but I hate knowing it.
I would tag you all but I am so behind so I will try to assimilate into the current conversation on this page.
@CupcakeCrusoe I can't wait to get down to your weight. (You mind pausing your progress so I can catch up ) haha. I know that fear though. I felt really good when I was at my lower weights and I lost it very quickly it hurt. But that was my own fault and I know that I can't just eat whatever I want and however munch and not be active and not have that happen. It didn't help having 2 kids one with excessive amniotic fluid.
@Generic_Excuse I never had c-sections but I did have abdominal surgery and I know that it does a number on your muscles. I can't even fathom 4. I hope things get better with that. I've been using an excervise bike regularly since January and my muscles still hurt after the same amount of time. Makes me feel like I'm not making progress but hopefully I'm making more then I can see.
@lmgoff232 You have a renpho scale too! I just got under the 210's weighting in at 209.2! I can't wait to get to the Onelander with you!
@pamperedlinny I've always wanted to try Zumba but idk if I have the stamina for it plus not even sure where to go for it!
@KeriA I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that her recovery is speedy.

@CupcakeCrusoe It is the app that came with my Renpho smartscale. I know that the accuracy on any of the measurements other than weight are not the most accurate, but the overall trend is helpful. I am liking your descriptions of MacroFactor more and more; I really like the idea that it seems to learn you. I may be checking it out!
@biohazardinc Happy Birthday! That drop under 210 definitely gave me a boost over motivation, because Onederland seems so, so close!
@Generic_Excuse I also had a disconnect between what I thought I was capable of when starting back exercise and what my body was actually capable of. I had to dial it way back, and just added a little more each week. Listen to your body & you will get there!1 -
@CupcakeCrusoe I love my Renpho scale, they have a tape measure to so you can measure body parts too.2

This morning the wife and I were chatting about how to spend the remainder of her health and fitness subsidy from work (they give her $1,000 per year). She mentioned the possibility of a gym membership for us but that she was concerned that we wouldn't make use of it (she struggles with the motivation to want to work out and I don't want to leave her behind). I mentioned the health club nearby that I was a member of in my youth and how I enjoyed the pool, aquafit classes and racquetball. Her eyes lit up over racquetball and we did some research on the club and will be going for a tour this week. I'm looking forward to finding ways we can be healthy and have fun together. It's not always about exercising to burn the most calories but about finding the movement that brings you joy and you will want to keep doing.
Last weekend I drove to Oregon for the celebration of life for my Aunt. I had a wonderful time with my family and received so much positive feedback on my progress. We made vegan charcuterie boards for the service which were delicious. I was mindful about my eating and focused more of my energy on spending quality time with family that I don't get to see often.

@pamperedlinny Oh how I used to love Zumba! So fun! I once did a 2 hour Zumba class for charity! It was exhausting! I should look into some Zumba classes near me!
@biohazardinc Happy Birthday!
@KeriA I hope your mom feels better soon!

I keep wanting to write that this has been an unsuccessful weight loss week but every time I start to write it my brain yells at me. This is progress! I have been having a migraine since Tuesday. And I admit, Tuesday I ate my feelings. I felt like crap. However, I did not go over maintenance. There was some thought and limitation put into my eating which is progress.
The scale is now telling me that I gained 4 lbs. But I know it is water weight. I am menstruating and I ate salty snacks on Tuesday. Had some treats on Mothers Day but nothing crazy. This is where my brain is fighting itself. I KNOW that is water weight. I did not gorge myself and gain 4 lbs of fat. There are hormonal and biological reasons why I am back up to 228 lbs. Why is this always such a fight in my brain? Uggh!
I am going to focus on the positives. Last weekend was Mothers Day. I enjoyed some great treats and time with my family but was still thoughtful about my calories. Not perfect but I made some good choices. I also got back into playing RingFit after two weeks off from being sick. Got my butt handed to me but I felt GREAT. I can not believe how much stronger I am getting. I love that the exercises are body weight exercises because it is teaching me how to move my body without a gym or special equipment.
Anyways thanks for letting me get my thoughts out about this journey. Weight loss for me is as much a mental journey as it is physical. I wish you all health and wellness this week! We got this!

@sandielewis2001Did you find any vegan cheese worth eating? I am on the search, I even googled how to make it myself and laughed really hard at: "Put the fermenting brew in a quiet dark room of the house" If I was drinking water I would have spit it out! Lols, "hey hubby, can you keep it down? I want my cheese to taste good!"

🤍 Lift weights 3x week ❌
🤍 More than 100g protein every day ✅
🤍 20 minutes to clean each day ✅
Weigh-ins:
5/6: 188.8 (-0.6)
5/13: 186.8 (-2)
Reward for halfway (183): Ninja Creami
Not bad at all! Quite good actually, I'm pretty pleased. My trend weight is 188.8 this morning. I didn't manage to find my smaller jeans last night because...
A friend of ours gave us 25 lbs (!!) of brussels sprouts yesterday, and another 25 of yellow squash. I spent hours last night processing: washing, cutting, putting in reasonable sized bags (lol), and I'm not done with the squash yet . Still, very grateful he thought of us. I filled 40 quart sized bags with squash and brusssels sprouts so far, and I'm out of room in my freezer. I'm giving some away, because even with my big chest freezer, I can't hold all this. And people respond better to individually packaged things than a big crate of stuff. I need to go get more bags.
Anyway, lol, tonight is pizza and beer night, I look forward to this night every week, and we haven't been able to do it for the last couple since we've been travelling. Can't wait.
Tag party time!
@Generic_ExcuseFunny how wallowing in self deprication can be easier than motivating yourself sometimes.
@biohazardinc happy belated birthday! New bike! That's so great! There are so many neat rabbit holes you can fall down about customizing it, too. I put a rack on the back of mine, and I've got a little flat fix/tool kit pouch underneath my seat, and a removable basket for the front to get books from our neighborhood little free library, and a little silicon phone holder strapped to the frame... lol, 2020 was The Year I Tricked Out My Bike. I would load the baby on the back in a little seat mounted to the rack and we would go on Saturday mornings.
Now I want to go for a bike ride, but it's gonna rain all weekend.
Also I saw that renpho tape measure... 👀 it might be worth it just for that. I'm so bad about taking my measurements.
@lmgoff232 I've been thinking about a smart scale, if for no other reason than to automate my weight being logged in a couple places. I'll consider that one when I get there, thanks!
@sandielewis2001 those shark coochie boards look incredible! I was scrolling up and down to look at them over and over like I was on CSI or something: "enhance. is that tofu?!" It's so cool that you and your wife are going to play racquetball together! Racquetball is so fun.
@sbortnick let me be the one outside your brain to tell you: You absolutely didn't gain 4 lbs of fat in a short period of time. Also, I looked up RingFit: Sounds really fun!
@justanotherloser007 mustn't disturb the cheese!
Have a great Friday everyone, the weekend is almost here!

I plan to weigh in for the week tomorrow morning. However, I have a lunch date with a co-worker for Mexican food. The lunch specials all come with lots of chips & rice (and I'm too broke to order outside the specials right now) so I'm going to have to go in with moderation in mind. Since we started working from home 2 years ago she and I try to meet up for lunch every month or two.
Last night my daughter's soccer team had the end of season pizza party and tomorrow we go to a mother-daughter tea party (that usually has tons of little frosted cakes) hosted by our YMCA followed by a kids birthday party in the afternoon. Not the best weekend for staying on track and keeping my blood sugar in a healthy range but I'll manage. Fingers crossed my will power is strong for the next couple of days.
I did manage to do over 10,000 steps every day Monday thru Thursday this week and plan to go to Zumba with my daughter again on Sunday afternoon. Hopefully any slipping I do will be offset with the exercise.
@lmgoff232 congrats on being "overweight"!!!!
@Generic_Excuse "Funny how wallowing in self deprication can be easier than motivating yourself sometimes." is probably the most true thing I've heard in a long time. Ugh!
@biohazardinc Happy Birthday! And you should definitely try Zumba. It's fun and easy to modify. I have a bad hip (from a car accident when I was younger) and my knees aren't in the best shape but I just keep moving during the class even if it isn't exactly the same as everyone else.
@sandielewis2001 I love your boards. I've never seen one that was fully vegan and it looks so inviting. I love a good shark coochie board.
@sbortnick I do my Zumba classes through the YMCA. You definitely didn't gain 4 lbs of fat that fast. You got this!
@CupcakeCrusoe My friends just got the Ninja Creami and love it! I keep debating if I would use it enough if I bought it. You'll have to let us know what you think.3 -

🌷Work in the ‘fitness lab’ every single day!
🌷Burn around 500 calories daily. The goal is to eat maintenance all the time at goal weight “1500 calories”. If I burn 500 calories from exercise a day I will lose around 1 pound a week, while eating the amount of calories I will need to eat for smaller me.
🌷Be patient! Remember that increments are where it is at, and focus on habits.
🌷Weigh the food in the ‘test kitchen’!
🌷Remember: Total loss of over 120 lbs!!
I am pretty sure I am still just having lots of water gain because of the angioedema, hives, prednisone and TOM. Let me just say, I always thought prednisone made me hungry before - but actually the thirst is what is killing me! I already drink 1 gallon a day, and at night I keep getting up because I am so thirsty, I am thinking I drank 2 gallons - I am really going to need to up the salt today if I don't want to pass out due to lack of sodium. I saw 155 two days this week, so I will keep on keeping on.
Ladies, you are killing me with the ninja creami, so expensive - but since I live in Texas and we are already in the 90's... I mean, yeah, I would use it all the time! The husband even okayed it, but I don't know if he was thinking about the price or all the delicious nutritious ice cream I would make that would: be safe for his diabetes, and hit some protein macros!

I must've gotten confused, I thought the ninja creami was only 100ish, but maybe that was a mother's day sale, when I looked at it. I certainly won't get it for $240, yikes.
I'm also considering getting a cuisinart instead, that's only around $60. I'd love to get the kitchenaid attachment to use my stand mixer even more, but the attachment by itself is $99. Ice cream makers, man. They're a racket and a half.2 -
I posted a reply earlier but for whatever reason my phone wouldn’t let me post my reply! Anyways thank you guys for the birthday wishes!
@CupcakeCrusoe Yes! I had a few accessories on my old bike but the phone stand was crappy. We haven’t moved the kids seat over to my new bike yet but I’m so very excited to get everything moved over. I just ordered a new phone stand and a seat cover because yikes what the hell do the make bike seats out of?? I’m thinking it must be cement…It’s been ungodly hot the last few days but hoping to take the kids to the nearby state park. @justanotherloser007 We looked into top getting a Ninja Creami. I think you are right I think it WAS in the $100s but for some reason around Christmas last year they went way up in price and are hard to find in stores. We have the Kitchenaid attachement for ice cream maker the only complain I have is the advanced planning needed for that. You have to have frozen then bowl for at least 24 hours before you can use it and sometimes you just want ice cream NOW.
@pamperedlinny I always get worried I’ll look like a weirdo and that all these talented people will be dancing circles around my inexperienced and no stamina butt.1 -
I recommend this food scale to everyone too! It’s so awesome!!!
