I stayed with Mama for about a month after her first angioplasty, and in the awkward officiousness that youth brings, told her I was putting her on a heart-healthy diet, which meant no caffeine. She participated, reluctantly, but she did what I asked. After about a week, she looked at me over a heart-healthy breakfast and said "Shoot me." I said, "What?" and she said she would rather croak over right then than spend another day without coffee. I guess I get that honestly, then. I miss her sometimes.
More later,
Love y'all,

Later, y'all,
Love,
Lisa
I'm worried about me too. I'll know more next week.I do a lot of box breathing and it does seem to lower my BP a bit.

The month started with me leaving my phone on the bus and having to put my cards on hold. I got the phone back 3 days later, but it took about a week to regain access to most things, except my bank card and phone internet access. I think my bank card should be OK now - I had to get a new one! I was in the bank yesterday trying to get it to work. If it is OK, I can set my phone internet access back up again.
Meanwhile I've been pulling everything off OneDrive and have been tightening the security on other things.
All the while being out at work 4 days a week, 10 hours a day and producing large legal documents in the evenings.
But wait, there's more.
I've also been for a lot of blood tests, an ultrasound, a glucose tolerance test and an MRI this month. I've had three doctor's appointments, and another one next week and have referrals to three specialists. It's all in an effort to chase something up that started with tingly feet. I'll know more next week.

OK, so the story of meltdown #2 this month ... the issues with my feet ...I've been having issues with my feet and legs (swelling, pain, numbness, pins & needles, etc.) so I went to my doctor and was sent for a blood test which showed some rather abnormal numbers for my liver (and kidneys).
Then I was sent for an ultrasound of my liver (and kidneys). My liver came back slightly enlarged, but not enough to cause worry.
My kidneys came back with "Simple cyst left kidney. Mild renal cortical thinning bilaterally in keeping with Chronic Kidney Disease".
The cyst, incidentally, has grown quite a bit over the years. It's now 4 cm in diameter. A kidney is roughly 10-12 cm long. I'm being referred to a specialist about that.
But the other part of that result had me concerned. Since when did I have Chronic Kidney Disease?? I have an issue with kidney stones but ... ... and it would explain the issues with my feet and legs.
One of the main causes of Chronic Kidney Disease is diabetes, and my blood sugar numbers were borderline, so then I was sent for the glucose tolerance test. Plus other tests.
I was not happy.
Tuesday, I got the results. Yes, I do have slightly damaged kidneys and will have to have them checked each year. Yes, they will likely gradually get worse. But right now, they're OK (although I do think I've got a kidney stone or two, but that's not unusual). And it would be a good idea to exercise more, eat a somewhat healthier diet, and lose weight.
Yes, I do have borderline fasting blood sugar, but then my body seems to handle sugar well, so I don't have diabetes and am not even close to it. But it could happen as I get older, so it would be a good idea to exercise more, eat a somewhat healthier diet, and lose weight.
The MRI of my back came back good.
So ... what's wrong with my feet and legs?
The kidneys could have something to do with it, but mainly we're now looking at Chronic Compartment Syndrome.
Machka in Oz
With the discovery of the early signs of Chronic Kidney Disease, we're looking at ways of changing our diet.
Apparently coffee isn't necessarily the best thing to drink for kidney health. When my husband read that, he started making my coffee at about half strength. Eeeeewwww. When we found out I'm really early on the path of CKD, earlier than we initially thought, I went back to drinking my coffee full strength!
Salt's another thing I need to reduce my intake of. <<sigh>> I like salt. So I've started eating terribly bland food ... most of the time.

Hi Gals,
I’m reading and sending love support and good thoughts to each of you. Welcomes to the newbies as well.
I am struggling with all that is going on, and feel overwhelmed. I am seeing my counselor every week, keeping a smile on my face most of the time (certainly with my clients) but there is a lot of work to keep one household going it seems more than double to keep 2 going… I know there are others of you with this same challenge and I am sending hugs your way! This *hit is hard!!!
Yesterday kinda pushed me over the edge, I called my niece (26 years old) as scared and almost crying as I could be. (story spoiler I am fine, and everything turns out fine) I was driving back from my Mom’s 2nd trip this week (it’s about 50 minutes each way) and the traffic stops…. I have been seeing lots of billowing smoke over the rise of the hills to my left, and kinda know where there must be a wildlands fire. Since traffic is completely stopped I text 2 friends with ranches in that direction telling them I can see the smoke and if they need to evacuate to head to my house, bringing their RV’s – I’ll be home soon. (I can provide water, power and clean outs for the RV’s at my house.
Both text back not evacuating yet but they will let me know. Traffic starts moving now we are able to see the helicopters doing water drops from a local lake and the bombers dropping fire retardant… it is quite a sight… we are maybe moving at 10 miles an hour. Over the next crest and I can see that there is another fire on my right – against the freeway, they are hand crews there and helicopters dropping water on this one too. The freeway is 4 lanes so I move to the “fast” lane to be as far away from the fire as I can be. I decide to call DNiece as I know of the kids she is the only one likely to be available put her on speaker, and tell her I love her. There are fire vehicles – lights and sirens passing the lanes of traffic on the sides of the road, behind me they shut down the freeway. DN stayed on the phone with me and I had her tell me about her day, as I edged closer and closer to the fire – it is a wall of flames on my right side and solid smoke on my left, we can see pretty well though as all the helicopters rotors are blowing smoke away – scary.
I can tell the helicopters apart because I can id the pilots, they are that close. As we get closer to the most heavily burning area the helicopter drops a load of water along the edge of the freeway and we drive through. Breathing again! About 2 miles up the road, still with smoke on the left there is a moving truck (18 wheeler, running double trailers) full engulfed on fire under an overpass sending flames up and over the overpass. Completely unrelated to either of the other fires but OH My! This one also has crews at it. I zipped under that overpass as traffic had picked up speed. 4 miles more and I am off the freeway and headed to my house. Never so glad to have an arm full of happy dog!
My friends never got evacuated. And as of this morning the bigger fire (CALFIRE Canyon Fire) is at 71 acres and 20% containment. Certainly not a big fire but the closest I have been. And gosh darn scary. I could only think of the folks that drove for miles and miles last year getting out of the Paradise fire with flames on both sides.
Sending love to all.

Geez Kim how traumatic! Lucky it turned out okay. And kudos to the brave fire fighters who made it turn out okay.

Kim, I’ve been near (on foot and evacuating picnickers and campers )so know first hand what you went through. So glad you are home safe. I really admire the firefighters, plane and helicopter fire retardant droppers, and all involved or near fires. I freak out now every time I see a propane fire pit or any contained fire. The consequences of even a spark are devastating!

Worked today. This is the first time ever that when I go in early, I was told to wait about ½ hour before clocking in. But I did want to get to the soup kitchen, so I just started working even tho I wasn’t on the clock. Went to the soup kitchen and evidently she texted me but I leave my pocketbook in my trunk when I go to work so I didn’t see the text. She said that she had enough help but I had to go to the Humane Society (a friend gave me some cat food to donate) and I know they have a thrift store in Newton, so I took that there. While there I found a pair of clippers for the cats. We always talked about putting a pair down at the condo so I got them. When I brought them home, Vince had forgotten that we talked about putting a pair at the condo. I don’t know if it was a good price or not, but it helped the kitties so it was worth it. I may be able to go for a walk around the block after being here and going in the pool. We shall see. If not, I’ll go after dinner
Before my father passed, his MD wanted him to go on dialysis. He flatly refused. His feeling was “when God wants me, I’m going dialysis or no dialysis. If God doesn’t want me, then I’m not going”. He lived for about 2 more years but was comfortable with his decision. When he was in the hospital dying, the MD wanted me to put him on dialysis, but I knew his wishes and didn’t do it.
Kim – so glad you are safe.
When I got to work today Jerry looked terrible so I asked him twice if he was OK. Then he walked away and the manager told me “he’s drunk”. On the way home he told me he’d gotten drunk last night and the next day he feels terrible. I don’t know if he was drunk or just had a bad hangover, but at least I didn’t get the rolling eyes whenever I asked him to do something. I tried hard not to. When he said to me "I'll go to work drunk if I want to, they know I'll do the work" I just let it go in one ear and out the other.
I mentioned to one lady that I'd take Jerry home and she said "oh, they know you will"

(((Kim))) — I am sorry that fire is a frightening situation for so many and very happy that you are okay. I know the risks for firefighters and hope they stay safe enough as they work to put the fires out.

Kim- Jiminy Crickets i would have been scared to death to go through that,so so glad your ok..
Machka- I was diagnosed with PKD - poly cystic kidney disease when i was 36,my mom went into renal failure that year and had to go on dialysis.
I to have to stay away from caffine and salt.. and potassium and all sorts of other stuff.. depending on what they find with all this bloodwork.who knows what will happen..I just have to put my faith in the good Lord.. he has gotten me this far..4 -
OMG Kim!!! Home and Levi must have never seemed so sweet...2

Kim- sounds like a total nightmare- Glad you made it home ok
I got to stay home last night- felt so amazing to sleep in my bed with the room dark and quiet. MIL keeps a lamp on and talks in her sleep or wakes me up off and on all night when I have to stay over there.
Did have to go over to walk the dog
Went to the grocery store to pick up veggies for cashew chicken for dinner tonight.
Have daycare girl today and we are going to plant some sunflowers- hope they do well and get some seeds to feed the squirrels this winter-
Dh is fretting because MIL refuses to eat anything- only takes a bite or two. We have tried the Ensure, says they are too sweet so told him to mix with milk. Gave her frozen yogurt- liked the first one but now doesn't like them. Will eat cookies or ice cream but that is about it- not good for a diabetic.
Told him it is her choice- can't force her.
He says he needs help but when I agree with him, he back peddles and says he doesn't know how someone else can take care of her if he can't- uummm- they are trained for it.
Told him. put a lock on her bedroom door(worried someone will steal her jewelry and she never uses that room- sleeps in her recliner in the living room-doesn't even go upstairs ) and have someone stay with her. He needs to let go of some control5 -

Kim — I am thankful that you are safe now. In recent years fires have been a huge problem In Oregon, California and other places. We don’t have a fire problem that I know of right now, but it is always a worry. Covid is a worry everywhere. I hope we will all be safe and healthy. 🙏🏻2

Went in the pool and then helped Vince power wash the driveway. Now I know why it’s taking him so long! He is obsessed with getting every little bit of red clay off the driveway. Hey, this is North Carolina. Red Clay is a fact of life. It’ll just come back. In the meantime, he’ll drive himself crazy. But there’s only so much I can say. I did it my way. If it’s not good enough, he can redo it. To me, there’s so much to be done before the pool party, red clay is the last thing I’d be obsessing about. I’ll go for a walk in a bit and then water the bushes

Hello from The Ozark’s!
All I hope your days and evenings are going well!
Debbie - Got it!! It’s not easy dealing with that kind of vitriol. Boo! Hope it all turns around for you!
Kim Good grief! I can’t imagine and I hope you and yours stay safe!!
I’m 3 for 3 logging calories and getting a little more active. Since retiring a year and a half ago I’ve become fairly sedentary. I’m going to keep going and allow myself fun times here and there because after all we need a spot of fun right?!
I was spoiled for YEARS never having to cook and now I’m taking a more active hand in it. I truly don’t derive joy from it like my daughter or my hubby. I am good with a recipe and can come up with a few ad libs! I made ‘carnitas’ and ranchero beans for dinner. For the carnitas (pork tacos) I followed @recipe_tin on IG. She has amazing recipes and you can always slim them down. They were a huge hit with the whole fam! So I’ll take that win for sure.
Have a super rest of your day / evening!!

Barbara , I'm so happy that you are back to line dancing. I've missed my classes but I am fortunate that I am able to dance at home as often as I want. The music and the movement make me so joyous.
Leslie, starting with baby steps and taking it one day at a time are the best beginning for a life of healthy practices. Having to cook for a family is a big challenge. Sounds like you are doing great.
