Losing 65 lbs is expensive!

I’ve had to buy a whole new wardrobe over the past year. Still trying to lose another 5 lbs or so but I hope my clothes won’t be too loose. I guess it’s a good expense then?

Lol, yeah, I bought a lot of used clothes, and a lot of clothes with stretch while losing weight.
It's also what got me accustomed to wearing the same limited few items of clothing every day, which is a habit I've kept since then.13 -
I’ve tried to keep purchases to a minimum but now that many styles and cuts fit me (they never have before) I like how they look! It’s a good problem to have, I suppose?13

I'm in the process of backing into old pants and using exercise clothes to cover the gaps at this point. Though I'm definitely going to end up buying a bunch of clothes eventually. Looking forward to the new clothes. Not looking forward to the credit card bill.7

Congratulations! Yes, it's a tough problem to have. I had to buy some clothese at my high weight in March for a vacation. Now they are too big. I'm shopping in my closet right now because I'm starting to fit into my pre covid clothes.9

I have two pairs of jeans on the way and a new shirt for our annual beach vacation at the end of this month

I lost at least 50 pounds and had to buy a replacement wedding ring. The original had gotten so loose it came off one day while I was out. That was annoying.10

Oh man the same happened to me! I was playing with the dogs in the back yard and it flew off my hand! I scrambled to bass pro shops to get a metal detector and I found it! So instead I got Qalo silicone rings to replace it. I wear the real one on a chain around my neck.10 -
The money you'll save on future healthcare cost by getting fit will buy offset that 100x28
-
Sell your old clothes on Ebay or consignment shops ... plus sizes are hard to come by. Then you'll have extra funds for the new clothes. So worth it!!!

A year and a half ago I bought $60 work of tops at Macys. After I had lost 30 pounds, was going to wear one. They were all too large - and I looked frumpy. I hit the return date by like two days. Now I buy Walmart tops. I bought shorts (in Florida) at Goodwill.8

That was one of the downsides of weight loss, for me: I needed a whole new wardrobe. It wasn't so much the cost - I limped through the loss process with minimum excess expenditure, and exploited sales and consignment shopping at goal. It's that I hate clothes-shopping - any time, any type - with a fiery passion.
On the positive side, that's one thing that's helped me keep at a healthy weight for multiple years since loss: I shudder at the thought of needing another whole new wardrobe, all at once. Just no. If my jeans get snug, it's time to cut back, period, end of sentence.17 -

Also… celebrate your success. I am happy about how I look now, feel justified in my feelings of accomplishment, and I don’ t want to hide in clothes that are multiple sizes too big for me. Appropriate self confidence in one’s appearance is part of positive overall physical and mental health. I loved buying new clothes that fit correctly and am not embarrassed to admit it.6

You can buy a ring guard that wraps around the back of the ring to reduce the size so that you can continue to wear it if you want.

See that’s the thing. I enjoy how my new well fitting clothes look. So buying them is tough but it feels great when I see myself in them. So I celebrate that each time.

Yes!
The expenditure sucks but it is like a reward to get something new and look good wearing it!3 -

Yeah, I'm not that great at womaning. I'm not very concerned about how I look, because I'm mostly inside it, not outside looking at it. I stay clean, and try to stick with "simple but respectable" as an aesthetic, because simple things are more timeless so I can shop less often . . . but I don't get much reward-kick from how I look. It matters to me more from the standpoint of fitting in well enough socially, i.e., so that people don't reject associating with me because I dress poorly, and that's about it. It's not a lack of pride, it's a lack of interest in that dimension.
I know, it's weird. 🤷♀️ It might be life-enhancing in some non-obvious way if I felt differently, dunno. At this age (66) and stage (retired), I'm not very motivated to change.
I'm not criticizing anyone who feels differently, not even slightly: The world is more interesting when people have varied approaches and attitudes. I sincerely support and encourage friends who enjoy shopping, compliment them on their clothing choices as appropriate, and all that kind of thing.7 -
Ohh yeah!! I think this expense is the most gratifying, been able to looks that before will never consider.2

Yes, I understand about how that can be expensive. I've lost 75 lbs over the last year and mostly had clothes in my closet in all different sizes to get me through. However the last time I was at the size I am now it was winter. So I ended up buying some summer clothes and also wearing some clothes I had that were a little too big so it hasn't been too bad. Still want to lose another 25 lbs and then reevaluate if I think I need to lose a little more. Good job @ElMeroKeeQue on practically reaching your goal.3

My pants, skirt, and shorts hardly stay up anymore. I have another 30 pounds to go yet though so I'm holding off on getting new stuff yet.6

A so much more pleasant problem than having to purchase new clothes as your current ones are too small. Well done.8

I bought a whole new wardrobe at 50lbs lost, I went from an 18 to a size 10. I thought I was done there but I was wrong. I lost 25 more pounds and it took me to a size 6- so I got rid of the size large tops and size 10 pants and bought a new wardrobe for size medium shirts and size 6 bottoms. Tried to switch to maintenance but it was a harder transition then I thought and I lost 10 more lbs, taking me to a size 2 and size xs/sm tops. I can still wear some of the 6’s but they are larger then I’d like so I’ve bought some size 2’s and might get the 6’s altered. But I love to shop so I don’t mind it. I could never buy anything I wanted as a size 18, and if I did it didn’t look how I wanted it to do I’m very happy buying styles I’ve always wanted and actually liking how they look on me.12

That is one thing I loved about losing weight, I could buy cheap clothes again and look great.
When I was obese, I had to buy clothes that fit a certain way in order to be flattering, and often had to get things custom tailored.
Finding a dress for a formal occasion was a tedious and expensive process when I was obese.
Once I got down to the bottom half of the healthy weight range, buying a dress was easy: size 2, bit of stretch? Sold.
Which is great because unlike you, I hate to shop, but I go to a lot of formal events every year, and with the same people at a lot of them, so I need a lot of dresses.
My closet is hilarious, it's all athletic wear and gowns. No actual functional adult clothing.

Fortunately I'm not going to have a big issue with having to buy new clothes as I lose weight. I've lost 90 lbs twice before. I regained it back twice. I kept all the clothes as I regained. I now have 1 large suitcase and 6 large boxes to shop in as I lose the weight and go back down. The sizes range from size 24 (3XL) all the way down to size 12 (M). I always said one day I'd get back into them. Now is that time. I started my journey back in May at size 26 (4XL). At my largest size I haven't had many clothes. I refused to spend the money when I had all those boxes full of clothes. Kept saying I'm gonna lose the weight. I'm down 18 lbs and the 4X's are wayyy too big and 3XL's are quite loose as well. Have been wearing my 2XL's which while a wee bit tight, fit better than the others. I'm wearing workout capri's for the summer size 3XL. They are stretchy and hopefully by the time it's too cold to wear them I'll have bypassed the 24 winter pants and gone down to the 22's. I have to lose the covid 42lbs to get into the 22's. I was almost into the 20's before I got laid off work and gained weight from sitting around. I'm sure the styles will have changed but who cares when hopefully I won't be wearing them for more than a couple months and on to the next size down. I just hope that I don't have to wear summer clothes in the winter....lol As for my winter coats.......I'll wear them baggy before I buy new ones. I have some expensive ski jackets that once I get down to size XL & L I'll be able to wear. I'm aiming to drop 155 lbs....so that will be a big change and by then I'll be ready to go shopping for new clothes. My daughter will be more than happy to go with me and help me spend my money. She will be wearing the same size as me once I get down there so she'll want me to buy things she can borrow....lol6

My recommendation: Wear anything with a drawstring, pants-wise of course.3
