Less Alcohol ~ SEPTEMBER 2022 ~ One Day At A Time

@Stockholm_Andy
Yes, forest fires and winds. Some of the smoke is coming up from Washington State, but there were 120 fires near here at one point from lightning strikes. We are sort of used to it, and it normally is the month of August when our skies are smoky. It is surreal. Hopefully the smoke blows away soon.
@ahoy_m8
I am going to Zhihuatanejo, south Mexico on the Pacific side. It is a small fishing village with a huge mercado.
I expect to do lots of walking, go to the market each day, and try to relax and read : - ) I will be having my 62nd birthday while I am there, I haven't decided exactly what I will do on that day yet. I will have been there almost a week by then, so will know the lay of the land. There is an island within easy reach, it is on the list of possibilites.
The place that I am staying is on the middle beach of 5 beaches, has a nice pool, and a huge outdoor space where the kitchen resides.
It will be rainy season, but I am all good with that. It will be warm.
I plan to paddle board and stuff like that. Las Gatas beach has a beautiful reef right off of it for snorkeling. There is some sort of submerged giant Jesus statue, not exactly interested in diving down to that : - )
Water taxis to and fro are $4 return.
This will be my outdoor living space:
This is Isla Ixtapa, accessible by water taxi
This is Las Gatas, the reef creates a cove:

I am Dawn. I live in Cranbrook BC.
I joined this thread in November of 2018 as a daily drinker.
I have found a sweet spot for myself, 16-20 AF days per month.
I had 18 for August.
I will be in Mexico for a good chunk of September and will definitely be having some Margaritas and possibly Cervezas.
I post in the mornings to MFP, so the next day for this thread.
Diary style.
Thursday Sept 01 - AF - May have drinks Friday night after my split shift, and or Saturday.
Friday Sept 02 - Drinks. Long workday, but busy and good. Very smoky here. Planned drinks Saturday as well (today). There are bands playing at the park that I can hear from my porch, I go back and forth. Got some black tulip bulbs today!! I will plant them when the bands are on breaks. Thinking of Singapore Slings today.
Saturday Sept 03 - Drinks. I had been up since 5am, so didn't see all of the bands that were playing until 10pm. Planned AF days until next Friday.

I love this group ❤️
I have greatly reduced my drinking since June and had a great month in August with 26 out of 31 AF days. This month I am trying to be mindful and make self care a priority.

This weekend is turning out to be crazy busy and self care has gone out the window. I’m trying to take it where I can get it, if even for 5 or 10 minutes at a time. I was able to swim for about an hour yesterday (so nice) and tomorrow will be my last swim in my dear oasis (75 and cloudy but I don’t care) since my parents move Tuesday. Have I mentioned my parents are coming to live with me for a week soon? 🙇🏻♀️ We haven’t lived under the same roof since 1994. We’ll see. AF is treating me well, I’ve had so much to do each day I’ve needed to get up at 5 am and have a clear head. I haven’t had a drink since August 20 but who’s counting, right?8 -
@Stockholm_Andy Way to go! Must have been a little tough with the football.
@Breathe57103 You both look so young! Have a good Labor Day with those grandbabies!5 -
Stuck at 1 AF day to-date so far. I did "moderate" at 2 drinks on Sunday. Today is planned AF. I need to catch up to @Stockholm_Andy and @joans1976 ...wow you both are really doing great....!
@Breathe57103 that's a really nice photo and you both look incredibly young!
Today involves a planned run at 5am and yoga class at 10. Self-care holiday

Such great positive energy in September from everyone~
Had 3 standard alcohol drinks over the weekend. Friday/2 and Sunday/1.
I kept AF while we had folks over to eat and drink up our surplus of food and beverages Saturday night. Husband thought I was going to try and keep freezer food frozen on a 1500 mile car adventure (slap to forehead on that one)
Those 3 drinks ought to hold me for a long while as it is going to "get real" when the moving container gets delivered this week. 😎
Great photos everyone - vacation get -a- ways, family, loved ones. @lmlmrn glad you were able to keep your beautiful waving sticks. You have prlbably started a new tradition, they just don't know it yet!
Speaking of fun jobs @globalhiker , I found out there is a zoo near by where i
I am moving. Imagine..... I said to my friends, me working at a zoo. Think about it!!

I have posted photos on other forums of my giant sunflower that I didn't actually plant. I have sunflowers all over, but not this genus. It is growing out of a tiny tear in a carpet, likely dropped there by some sort of bird, insect, mouse or something. It is more than double the size of my others.
I don't really eat sunflower seeds, too much work lol @Lilylady3k , but I do smush the heads full of seeds into the ground to pop up the next year. I will definitely be saving these heads to scatter!
@Stockholm_Andy was asking about the smoky skies. Some plants do not like it at all, some flourish with the ash. This photo of my giant shows what the smoky sky looks like, it was around 2pm:
Big fires around Jasper right now, I know that you really enjoyed visiting that area @globalhiker6 -

Wow @dawnbgethealthy that's a monster Sunflower! Especially for one that just randomly self propagated. You'd should harvest enough seeds from that to grow a whole field full and still feed half the local bird population as a than you for dropping the original seed5 -

I won't lie, it was I had an AF beer but it's just not the same
I'm actually sitting in the Airport Lounge right now watching everyone partake in the complimentary full service bar. While I sip my diet Coke.
I'd normally be enthusiastically taking advantage of a free bar before my flight but its my fault I can't trust myself to play with the grown ups so I'll stick to my soda and read the motivational posts from you guys instead

I love seeing all the exchanges and support in this group. Hopefully I can engage more deeply when I have a normal “work” day, haha. I’ll be honest, that’s when I do my best Internetting. I’ve only ended up having one AF day out of five, so I’ll need to improve that rate to make it to 15 for the month!6

AF tonight, I didn’t even want it. I was probably hung over from my three drinks yesterday- 2 on the boat, and 1 glass of wine at dinner. I wanted to pour that extra half glass but I refrained. Glad I did.
Today I ran a few errands and took an enormous nap. It was lovely! I normally work Mondays so this was a treat to have the day off.5 -
AF again today.
Last day of my out of state grandbabies visit. I will be going to New Mexico to see them the 1st week of October so not too long of a wait.
I am really happy that alcohol has not been in my conscious thoughts this week. I do need to get back to my morning 3+miles walks and healthy eating though. The family visits seem to interfere with my routines but it is worth it.

Love all the photo's we are seeing so far this month!
As I expected the fair is grueling, not so much in physical labor as a ticket seller, it is the oh so friendly customer service/banter/humor etc. that I give each person at my window. After hour 8 it is hard to maintain but I do all they way up to hour 12ish give or take.
AF still this month and a few days at the end of Aug...think I am at day 8 of consecutive AF. Not a record but it works for me.
@MissMay guess who liked my stick that they used it after I went home??? now if that does not make ya laugh7 -

Well, I swam in my sweet oasis for the last time yesterday. It’s very strange to cry and swim at the same time. I’m already thinking of ways to replace it. My next step is to go check out the local rec centers pool and see how high my “germ radar” gets and if I can imagine getting in a public pool.
It is also hard seeing the emotions my parents are going through with moving. My mom clutches her chest a lot and says she can’t breathe. My dad is a hoarder and there’s stuff from the previous house he never unpacked, so 42 years of “stuff” he’s trying to pack/organize/donate/sell three days before the movers come. He throws nothing away. They are both very tired and emotional. I helped as much as I could the past 4 days but I have to go back to work today.
Also, serious DOMS. I am definitely not 25 anymore!
Sorry for long post!
I hope you all are well and happy!10 -
Hi Everyone.
My name is Jason. Please count me in. My 56th birthday is on November 9th and I want to have no alcoholic beverages until then. Yesterday was Labor Day which usually consists of lots of beer and barbeque and for the first time in along time, I had nothing to drink on Labor Day. I had quite a bit of rum on Sunday night and felt horrible the next morning; it wasn't a hangover but was feeling lethargic, had no motivation to do much of anything (though I had lots to do that day) and because of alcohol, my day was wasted.
Last night, instead of a night cap, I drank zero caffeine tea with lemon and slept like a baby last night. However, I do realize that it's only one night but every streak must begin somewhere. I hope many of you who are reading this are conquering your sobriety goals.
