@Lilylady3k hope everyone is feeling better now. And you can have some YOU time again.5

This November the 28th, (my late Dad's birthday) will mark my 4th year on this thread.
Not only has it kept me accountable for my alcohol consumption, it truly has become a community for me, especially while we were in various lockdowns.
Sticking with my (reachable) goal of the last few years, 16-20 AF days. I have been successful each month with this expect for most recently in September when I was having a Margarita every day in Mexico and reached only 14AF for the month.
Diary Style:
Sunday November 13 - AF - I had a hankering for a Manhattan, but I didn't have any Vermouth and didn't go out to get any. Whew, that was far too many daily drinks days.
Monday November 14 - AF - I guess that I just want to have drinks every day, but I know that it is disastrous for my weight. Long way yet to get to my 16 this month!!
Tuesday November 15 - AF - Split shifts the next 2, getting home so late often leads to drinks for me, I will have to have some willpower considering I need at least 10 more AF days with the month already half over.
Rolling total: 6AF days out of 15 days7 -
I'm brand new to MFP but I'm so happy to see others dealing with the same challenges. Wishing everyone a happy and fulfilling day.8

Lots of sick grandchildren and children last weekend and this week. The cold is trickling through the family.5 -
Hello everyone! I'm late to the November game but better late than never.
I just returned to Myfitnesspal after a 2-year hiatus. Before 2020 I was overweight by 40 lbs. I had a lifestyle that involved plenty of social events and drinking. When I got home from work I would have some wine or a cocktail (or two) after work. I wanted to loose weight and get to my goal by my 50th birthday in May 2020.
During the shutdown, I stopped drinking, started eating healthy, and exercised. It was not so hard because the quarantine took the temptation away since we weren't going out. I lost 40lbs from Feb-May! I couldn't believe how fast the weight came off! I never felt better.
Unfortunately, when the holidays rolled around and things started opening up again I slowly started falling off the wagon. By mid-2021 I was eating, drinking, and dropped exercise. Part of me just said f-it, I'm just going to do what makes me happy and eat and drink what I want. Although I am not happy. I am miserable, sad, and angry with myself for getting back to this place. I know that limiting or giving up alcohol was the key to my previous success, I just need to get back in that headspace and do it again.
My hubby said something to be about how my health and energy are being affected by it all, and that was a motivation for a change. So...
Thank you all for being a forum to share this with.
11/1-13: drank almost daily.
11/14: AF
11/15: We are going bowling w/friends
tonight, beer will tempting but I'm just having club soda tonight.
Welcome! I’m sure so many of us can relate! I know I can.
The good news is you know what to do! I’m sure you’ll have success again once you put your eating and exercise plan back into place. Being AF around others who are not is definitely a challenge. I would either have club soda with a lime (looks like a gin and tonic), or take micro sips of the one glass of wine I allowed myself so it would last. If anyone questioned me I always said I was on a cleanse or on an antibiotic. No one really noticed what I was drinking so never was an issue. You got this!

Alcohol in any amount absolutely ruins my sleep and I read if you do not get sufficient sleep in your 50s and 60's you are at a much higher risk for developing dementia. Is a nightly wine habit worth that? Anyway I did not indulge yesterday and slept like a baby and feel refreshed today. I wish I could bottle this feeling and draw on it when I feel temptation. I enjoy reading the tips and coping strategies here.
Holy cow, is that true???????
Definitely screen shot your post so you can remind yourself how great you feel when temptation strikes. Also, check out the tips at the beginning of this thread. A craving lasts only 6 minutes, so if you can distract your self through that, your desire for alcohol will probably pass. Also check out the 30 day experiment (also up top).
Welcome!

Welcome to MFP , and to this awesome thread!!!!!! Lots of great folks on here.3 -
@joans1976 thinking about you, hope the other lump is benign. Is your surgery outpatient or will you be in the hospital?
You’ll get to Bali, don’t you worry!2 -
AF since Monday, so 3 days in a row. This month I’ve had a drink almost every day so this is a nice AF streak for me. I purposely didn’t buy wine this weekend because I knew if it was in the house, I’d be tempted to drink it. Last two nights I had no desire for it. However tonight, after a long busy day at work, boy did I want a glass of wine! The feeling passed though. Tomorrow is wine night at work, and then for the weekend I want to stick to only one glass each night. Two drinks per night is too much for me. Kills my sleep.5

November accountability: 5 days AF
Alcohol: 11 days (26 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 12-16 AF days per month. Aim to drink no more than 2 nights in a row.
11/16 - 1 drink; jalapeño margarita @ book club
6 -
Thanks for the encouragement . I've read just about every book listed and done The Alcohol experiment twice. I also follow Kate Bee and Bex Weller faithfully. One of these days it is just going to stick.5

Hey everybody! This is my 5th month and I am so grateful to have found this group!
My goal is to not turn to alcohol this month no matter how stressful work or my physical health gets!
Best wishes to everyone to meet their goals this month!
11/1-11/7: 7 AF
11/8-11/14: 7 days AF
Rolling total: 14 out of 14 days AF
11/15: AF
Yesterday was the first day since my diagnosis that I was able to work a full 10 hour day without a nap or anxiety attack. It felt good.
I have a surgery date, December 6. I also figured out I have 14 doctors appointments between today and December 6. I guess they like to keep you busy?
11/16: AF
I feel like I’m a bundle of joy (note: sarcasm) every time I write. Biopsies of lymph nodes today. I slept awful last night and I’m just not able to put a positive spin on this today. 😮💨Deep breath. Gotta move forward.
People of the Less Alcohol thread, have a great day!6 -
Well, it's a good think I didn't read the fine print on last night's fundraiser invitation. It was a BYOB event! Husband and I had our refillable water bottles instead. Planning on 1 beer for tonight as we are headed to a brewery where we've joined the beer club. Will be fun!
Welcome to the new folks. This is a great thread and really helps on the AF journey. By way of example, before I started this thread I was probably 25A days in October and those weren't just 1 drink a day.
AF - Nov 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13 -16 [total: 12]
A- Nov 5 (1 wine), 6 (4 oz beer), 9 (1wine), 12 (beer) [total: 4]4 -
Hi All - I'm Robyn. I've been away but I'm back.

11/14: AF - Had a virgin Cape Cod (club soda and cranberry) with dinner
11/15: AF - Stuck to plan, 45-minute spin workout, another virgin cape cod
11/16: AF - On a roll. Had a 70 calorie "Run Wild" NA IP with dinner.4 -

Wednesday November 16 - AF - That was a tough one, but really glad that I stayed AF. I set myself up for this by having too many drinks days at the beginning of the month. I think that I do much better when I have drink days every 3 or 4 instead of feeling like I have to string a whole bunch together. If I set Tuesday as a day where I can have a couple of drinks then it is easier to wait for that, and consequently wait after that until Friday because it is schedule. What works for one person doesn't work for all of course. Many 6 minute waits last night!

My dear niece suffered a miscarriage today after it had taken her so long to get pregnant. I thought, "I want some wine; this is sad and stressful." Then I thought, "stop looking for an excuse to drink. Having a headache and anxiety tomorrow isn't going to help any of us."
The urge passed and I sent her a warm, loving and SOBER text which she greatly appreciated.12 -

I can’t believe it’s already November 18! Yesterday’s procedure was painful and long. Sleeping last night was kind of a joke. I’m icing my armpits now, which is a weird feeling and a weird thing to type.
Let’s go out there and kick this world’s *kitten* today! 💪🏼6 -

Is that what they’re called? Who knew my go-to NA drink was a virgin Cape Cod!4 -
@joans1976 hope you’re feeling better today. Hey, no shame in not being a ray of sunshine every day, what with cancer sucking and everything.
@SunnyDays930 so sorry to hear about your niece, it’s so devastating and I know you must ache for her. Great insight and control not turning to alcohol to numb how awful you felt!!!3 -
Wine night at work, only had one glass, but I’ve been getting smart lately and have a serving of nuts about half an hour before, so it’s not on an empty stomach. I feel much better in the morning.
Planning on AF tonight. DS2 comes home from college tonight (or tomorrow, ya know, college students) and I can’t wait to see him!3 -
Hi All - I'm Robyn. I've been away but I'm back. I found that I don't meet my goals without the support of this group. My goal is 16-20 AF days in a month targeting no more than 2 drinks in a day and no more than 7 in a week.
11/13: Drinks (1) - Had a glass of wine. Plan was AF, but 1 is better than 2

11/16: AF - On a roll. Had a 70 calorie "Run Wild" NA IPA
11/17: Drinks (3) - Thursday night is date night (had 2 wines with dinner and a beer later with hubs). Also got into the late-night snacking. I hate it when I do that.
Rolling Total: 3 AF days out of 5

@Womona - Ha, ha! I made it up (I think) but it makes sense to call it that, right?2 -
Happy Friday! I don't have my "happy" going on today but I am gonna try.
Planning to go easy on the food and drink until the holidays, stick to my 1000 calorie diet which doesn't allow more than 1 drink anyway and just "re-focus" on shopping and travel planning. Things that make me happy.
Protein shake is working well. Tastes like chalk, but I notice the flab tighten up and I have appetite control.
4 -
@globalhiker
I tried the protein shake thing years ago.
I'm glad that it gives you appetite control.
I now try to eat my calories instead of drink them, except for booze.
I hope that you get out and about somewhere on the weekend and don't have to work!2
