@dawnbgethealthy You should send those photos to vistaprint and have them turned into Christmas cards. They are beautiful!2

I'm heading back to AZ on Friday for the next 3 months and my social network is pretty small there so hopefully I can avoid alcohol.
I'm going to see how many AF days I can string together in a row for awhile because once I decide to drink then drinking the next day and the day after seem like a good idea.
Hopefully I can get back on track now with alcohol and diet.
12/26 AF
I hope you all have a good week.
I can only imagine what you went through this Christmas. That first bunch of holidays without your loved one is especially hard. Big hug to you. I hope you can enjoy your time in AZ, warm weather and outdoor activities.4 -
@mfowler883 I think we all have a food group that is our Kryptonite! Well, you were able to say no to the alcohol sitting in your house, I’m sure you can use that same strength to resist the goodies. But it is a pain when someone else insists you eat food that doesn’t fit your eating plan.
@MissMay, thanks for sharing your struggle, I had no idea! Glad you are in a comfortable place with food now.
AF last night, I didn’t even want it! I need to do some serious detox after this weekend, and contemplate why I needed to escape into alcohol as opposed to finding some other way to deal with stressful company. The house is now back in order, all clean, and I honestly feel better in a clean house. I couldn’t do it all so asked my husband to do all the bathrooms, and he did! I need to ask for more help cleaning the house in the future.5 -
Drank like a fish yesterday, starting at lunch at a bar. My heart rate at 2 am was 114 bpm. You know that can't be good. Plus I had terrible dreams about my daughter, the one that upset me on the phone the other day. So you can see, in my case, once I open that door as I did on Xmas Eve, it is hard to shut again. I woke up feeling like crap and my tongue feeling like it was wearing a sweater. Good times! Today will be AF and I hope to finish the year that way. I am not starting 2023 with a headache and self loathing.7

@FaithIt365
Hi. You managed some less alcohol days, Bravo!
I remember my first AF day and I really do understand your anxiety around this.
I feel like you will get there. It is just one day, and I promise that you won't die from having an AF day.
Maybe just pick one ahead of time, like...thursday or something. Mine was a Monday, and I celebrated an AF day every Monday after that for 4 weeks (eventually I added another day etc.)
We are here.4 -
I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My primary motivation for drinking less is weight loss.
I throw up if I have more than 3 drinks, so moderation on drink days is rarely an issue for me lol.
My recurring goal is 16-20 AF days per month. I squeaked to 16 last month.
I like to do this diary style to keep track.
Saturday December 24 - 2 drinks - I had an amazing day, the weather warmed up considerably (but not too warm yet) and it was snowing so beautifully. I did lots of shoveling which I love, then got out for a very nice cross country ski. When I got home I had hot apple cider with spiced rum. Planning on cross country skiing today, Christmas Day, before it gets too warm later on and hits above freezing for the week. I may have drinks today also. Merry Christmas : - )
Sunday December 25 - 2 drinks - A perfect Christmas Day for me. It was minus 7 (celsius) when I hit the trails, exactly perfect weather for a cross country ski. It took about 45 minutes from the trailhead to reach Mistletoe lane, and it was so wonderfully full of decorations put up by people in the community. It took me a long time to get through it, stopping what seemed like every few feet to take a photo. Lots and lots of people out and about on the trails: walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing. I was gone for hours. Back to work today, Monday, which is Boxing Day here in Canada, a stat holiday so extra $$. Freezing rain is due to begin today and continue all week with the temps rising above the freezing mark as the week goes on. The skis can come out of my car now. Very grateful to have had perfect weather for Christmas Day : - )
Monday December 26 - AF - There was thick ice on my car as I was going to work in the morning, very hard to scrape off. By the time that I got off of work it was raining and is still raining this Tuesday morning and above freezing. So glad that the weather was perfect on the weekend and that I was on days off for the holidays : - ) Definitely planning on Proscecco NYE, and drinks with a friend Friday night. Going to try to stay AF until then. 16 is getting close!
Rolling total - 15AF day out of 26 days4 -
LOL my goodness just when you think you are caught up two more pages of posts appear!
@dawnbgethealthy keep the pictures coming! I love to look just not play.
@MissMay thank you for sharing your struggle/journey with food. Some of what you said so resonated with me, especially about the daily weighing. Sheesh I have been keeping a daily weight log since 2012. Before that it was not as formal but still a daily function for as far back as I can remember.
I was nearly 200lbs in 2012 and it has taken me to this past two years being on this thread that really helped me put not only food but alcohol in more manageable lifestyle. I am finally not considered morbidly obese or even obese now. I still weigh daily but I no longer panic when my weight starts to creep up which it does every 2-3 months.
I have been surprised that my weight has actually gone down since my family is here visiting. I don't know if it is because I eat different types of food than them or not or it is just my natural fluctuations. My alcohol consumption over the holidays has been good too. Not AF but in moderation and for me that is my key now. I can allow myself an indulgence and not beat myself up for it.

Just tallied it up. 11 A days this month. Not planning any more, I don't think. I have nothing in the house that I like to drink, I'm okay with not buying more and now I have a few solid options for NA beers. I also scratch the itch with Topo Chico and fresh cut limes, at least when the Topo Chico isn't all sold out. I will work on sorting out the food problems before I even bother adding alcohol back into the equation; fighting battles on multiple fronts isn't something to do when one has options, and alcohol now feels more like an option than it used to.
@lmlmrn, isn't it nice to be able to treat yourself and not feel like you've done something wrong? I felt okay with that one beer the other night, or my Bailey's in my coffee the other morning. It tasted good, but there was no way I was even going to feel the alcohol, so it was an A day on paper more than anything.
I like this crowd, I think I'll stick around - already bookmarked the January thread.

9th straight day AF done. Chocolate-less and I ran out of stress gummies too.
Thankfully, DH is AF today and keeping his distance, so as long as nobody annoys me, should be OK.
Stress gummies and Ritual Zero Rum arriving tomorrow!!! @dawnbgegethealthy, I will be making AF mojitos for New Year's Even (just need to find the right mint!)
For those of you who don't like exercise...have you tried youtube dance videos? It's de-stressing and quite fun.

I woke up with chest congestion and body aches today. Not feeling well makes it easy to stay AF. I'm hoping I recover quickly since I am flying back to AZ on Friday and then driving 8 hours to NM on Saturday. I also stayed under my calorie goal today (it helps that I have virtually nothing to eat in my house.)

Thank you to all who commented on my post. One breath at a time, one minute at a time, one day at a time. I'm hoping in 2023 I can start looking towards the future while still cherishing the memories of the past.9 -
AF again tonight. I discovered a new AF drink- club soda with a little of the Stonewall kitchens Sangria Mix. Plus a Luxardo Cherry. So, I had two nice faux Sangrias! Helped to get over the craving of a nice glass of wine.7

I like the idea of a mock margarita! Thanks for the tip!

Hello all! I’m still Amanda, I’m from Michigan. I am still a crazy cat lady and work for a veterinarian. This will be my sixth month with this group and it has helped me cut back on my drinking so much! I am not ready to say I am 100% sober but last month I had 30 days alcohol free 😃
12/1-12/7: 7 out of 7 AF
12/8-12/14: 7 out of 7 AF
12/15-12/22: 7 out of 7 AF
12/23: AF
Day 56 AF yesterday
12/24: A-1 Baileys and coffee
Broke my streak. I feel sort of so-so about this. Just the one drink and it was definitely a “holiday” drink in front of the tree and the fireplace and I sipped it.

I was speaking to my mom last night about New Year’s resolutions. I don’t usually make them but I am going to this year because I feel like I have to take better care of my body and mind. Anyway, she said she would like to drink less! I acted casual so as not to spook her but threw out a few ideas like not drinking more than 2 nights in a row, only 2 drinks a night, etc. she said “remind me in a week.” So we’ll see. We all know a drinker isn’t going to quit until they want to. I can only push gently.
3 days AF7 -
@globalhiker I can look into the dance videos once “things” aren’t so swollen. Thanks for the tip!4

Enjoying my time in NYC with family but am definitely eating more and getting more salt in my diet. Yesterday we went to an indoor Mini golf / bar. A fun way to spend part of the evening although it did involve a cocktail.
Goal: 15 AF days, no more than 2 drink missed 2x), only drink at events (missed x 2)
AF: 12/2-8, 10, 15-22 (14)
A: 12/1, 9-14, 23-27 (13)4 -
Here are a few photos of our stay at the beach - my hubby smoking a cigar out on the deck and our view at the condo (yes, it was cold!), the new baby who is thriving well, her Husky brother who wants to eat that squeaky little thing and my cat who stayed mainly in the bedroom but would venture out when the dog was detained in another bedroom. It was Carolina Beach (not Wrightsville). The condo was right at the boardwalk and within walking distance of a lot of good hang-outs.

@dawnbgethealthy LOVE the photos and the cross-country skiing stories. What a perfect Christmas Day!3
-
@joans1976 Amanda - Sending hope your way for your mom!3
-
@mfowler883 I agree with you. I really like this crowd.6
-
@globalhiker The YouTube dance video idea is a great suggestion. I tried one recently that Peloton offers for beginners. I laughed at myself through the whole video!4
-
@joans1976 I have found that letting them think it is their idea to want to drink less is the key. Pushing or even nudging seemed to always work in reverse for me helping those in denial. 🤞🤞🤞5

This group really helps me hold myself accountable, plus everyone is absolutely great. My monthly goal is 16-19 AF days (3A days max weekly) for weight loss and overall health. I post in the mornings about the previous day.
12/23: Drinks (2)
12/24: Drinks (4)
12/25: Drinks (3)
12/26: Drinks (4) - We ate lunch at an oyster bar and I almost ordered a Bloody Mary with alcohol but made it a virgin last minute (Virgin Bloody Mary - what an awkward name! ). It was pretty good, not great, and I don't think the alcohol would have fixed what was wrong. The oysters were outstanding. I drank 2 planned glasses of wines at dinner and later had a couple of unplanned shots of whiskey at the condo while binging on homemade candy and cookies. Ugh! I hate it when I do that - the alcohol/binge combination.
12/27: AF - It was tempting to have a beer last night after our long drive and several A days during the holiday but I stuck to 1 NA beer and was satisfied. I'm up a few pounds. It's time to get back on track with both food and beverage.
Rolling Total: 14 AF Days out of 27 .... My goal is 16 minimum monthly AF days. I've come close in previous months but didn't quite make it. I will hit that goal this month!6 -
Here it is December 28th......4 more days of 2022.

Huge win win last night
Husband is working evenings so I wanted some social atmosphere and entertainment ( LOL, because my hair was looking perfect , I know some of you can relate to this)
So I dropped him off and then did some xmas gift returning. I was thinking of going right back to our town house but then my car veered into a cool place "on the bayou". I sat at the BAR for a clear unobstructed view to the stage where different singers were performing, ordered fried okra and also bacon/cheese grits AND was drinking H00.
Two fun couples I had never met before or seen (a little older than me) approached, we all began chatting and the next thing ya know we have a NYE party to attend this weekend if we so wish to. Life is funny and exciting at the same time.
Stayed for 3 hours, had a wonderful time.
I must say my husband was a little envious that I was out, until I told him I met some new faces for us to hang out with.
YAY
