Hello! It’s Amanda, I’m back. It’s a new month and a new year! I’ve been thinking about 2022 and 2023. I’ve got some goals for the year and staying 98% AF is one of them. I love this group, I love this thread, it really works.
1/1-1/7: 7 out of 7 AF
1/8: AF
1/9: AF
1/10: AF
1/11: AF
1/12: AF
1/13: AF
So! Good news all around!!! All my scans came back clear! 🤩I can’t explain what a relief this is! Now I just need to get the genomic testing done on my tumor (in process) and then a plan will become clear. (I feel like I’ve been saying that for-ever!) Thank you everyone for all your support and prayers and thoughts💗 Chemo is still a likely possibility and radiation is a sure thing but having clear scans is such a gift!
In more good news, I adopted a new kitty yesterday! I will post pics later, I need votes on names. He is super cuddly and affectionate and a total chonk. He and Kramer have not met yet.
21 days AF

@Sinisterbarbie1 Thank you so much for that! A lovely read!
@forestdweller1 I don’t know how but I get the feeling Catpuccino wants me to keep the name Roger for my newly adopted addition. Let him know Roger is still in the top 3 and being seriously considered. Also let him know Roger’s new mama has had a tough couple of months and just might need to re-name him because she loves him so much!5 -
@joans1976 - I hear your relief in the scan results!!! Congrats! Keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of the testing will be clear.
My son's cats are Tom & George Roger is not a bad name. But I think I like something more ... I don't know ... cat like and unique LOL
Luna
Nova --- thinking of the Hubble Telescope images
Paris --- name after a place/city you want to go or love
Ollie

@Lilylady3k I love Paris and Nova! I work at a vet clinic and there are a lot of Luna's out there! Thank you for the suggestions!4

SIL and nephews are visiting today. That will do little for the headache and staying AF, but I will persevere!

Kitty is lovely!
I like what @Lilylady3k said about naming him like somewhere you want to go/be...
Bali?6 -
I have really been getting into "Maine Cabin Masters" lately on HGTV. Just as our @MissMay moved away from there.4

I am Dawn, I live in SE BC Canada
My ongoing goal remains, 16-20 AF days per month.
Last month I had 18AF days
I do this diary style to keep track, and post the next morning
Sunday January 08 - AF - Back to work this Monday morning. Ankle is feeling pretty much like it did before the steroid shot, but I was told 2-6 weeks to feel full results. My plan is to have drinks on the weekend and one weeknight.
Monday January 09 - AF - Hoping to go to public skating at the arena on Wednesday during my split shift break. Even when it was really hurting, skates on made it feel comfortable. Hockey skates have a great deal of support.
Tuesday January 10 - AF - As usual, when AF my weight drops after a couple of days
Wednesay January 11 - 2 drinks - Got off of work much earlier than usual. Enjoyed the drinks
Thursday January 12 - AF - Planning on drinks over the weekend
Friday January 13 - 2 drinks in the afternoon right after work, and then water. I might have drinks Saturday also.
Rolling total: 7AF days out of 13 days.4 -
1/1 - 1/ 5 AF
1/6 - 1/7 A
1/8 AF
1/9 A
1/10 A

@joans1976 one vote for Poetaytoes....one vote for Bali....those feet would be ideal for snorkling among the coral reefs.
Good to hear you are getting closer to a long term treatment plan.6 -
@joans1976 not only is your new kitty an adorable chonk - his face!!!! But before you abandon his name… there are many famous Rogers your kitty could aspire to be like. For instance Roger Moore, one of the English actors who played James Bond. Cats are all little international men of mystery anyway so he would have a head start. My cats are extremely musical so he might also incline towards people like Roger Waters (co founder of Pink Floyd) or Roger Daltrey (the Who). Or course as a rescue he might have the disposition of Roger Williams who wrote the song King of the Road (it starts off Trailers for sale or rent, rooms to let 50 cents ….) about a man with little means who relishes his freedom (get him tagged!). Cats are generally athletic even if chonky, so maybe tennis player Roger Federer is a good role model for him. My kitties enjoy experimenting with gravity by batting things off of counters and shelves, so maybe baseball player Roger Clemens instead. If a boxing match breaks out when you introduce him to your other kitty then don’t despair — he could just be trying to be like Roger Mayweather. He looks like a very sweet boy, and certainly of discerning taste too to have chosen you as being worthy to take him home. His highly honed critical skills will likely exhibit themselves in various other ways (like trying to bury food you offer him). Don’t get offended. Despite his many thumbs his digits are not opposable, so he can’t do the thumbs up/down ratings that his namesake Roger Ebert did when rating movies. Of course as an academic I have to mention English philosopher and scientist Roger Bacon. He was an early proponent of experimentation in science to confirm beliefs through empirical testing. Some people condemned him as a heretic in cahoots with the devil, others said he was a wizard with mystical powers. In reality he was just a friar who liked to study and observe lights, lenses, mirrors and rainbows. How very cat like.
Enjoy your new buddy!!8 -
I like all those cat names! Y’all are good. 2 glasses wine last night—one while making dinner which took a while and one after dinner. We don’t have a plan for tonight.5

If only I could combine Roger and Toes somehow.
Sorry to derail the thread.

Below average progress. Only two AF days this month. Still not hanging it up at all. My cardio exercise is up and I returned to my true love...running. For the first time since I did my section hike last September, I got back on the trail for trail running. A cold chilly gloomy day but beautiful 7.5 mile mostly run some walk effort around St. Mary's Lake. I have a difficult...tough love conversation with my 23 year old daughter coming Sunday. It is a long complicated story. I don't do well at tough love, but it is needed. I looked in the mirror and learned I was not a perfect father, my wife not a perfect mother, but we were "good parents". Very good parents indeed. The bad forks in road she has taken....are hers.12

Well as an orange cat he is a “ginger” so you could just call him twinkle toes or Rogers with an “s” on the end in honor of Ginger Rogers the dancer but that is stretching it!
To try to return this to our regularly scheduled programming … one good thing about cats is that when they settle in to your lap you are obligated to be cat furniture so you can’t get up to go get a beverage or a snack even if you are craving one . . .8 -
@Sinisterbarbie1 and @joans1976 - I like Rogers! Very cute idea. See above.
January accountability: 6 days AF
Alcohol: 8 days (22 drinks)
Goal: Limit 2 glasses per day; 20-25 AF days this month. I usually target 12-16 AF days each month which is usually a challenge … hitting 20 days since DH backed out of his dry January commitment is definitely influencing me to join him on weekdays I had not planned when setting the goal. Going for it anyway!
1/14 - 2 wine
A days are pulling into the lead I really really need to get an AF day in ... but love the nice wine bottles we purchased last weekend.6 -
@Pokey4321 good luck with the tough conversation. They are always so hard, but no one is willing to have these conversations other than a loving parent! She’s lucky to have you in her corner. Then go for a run to relieve the stress!!
@joans1976 I am beyond thrilled that your scans are clear! Woo hoo! What a relief. Also love your new Chonky Boi! He is adorable. I like the name Roger, and he is used to it, but there is always Puddy or Maestro if you want some of the smaller characters.
@Sinisterbarbie1 love your new activities! Great inspiration!

Ok guys I’m so proud of myself! Met another couple out at 3:00 for a very early cocktail hour before dinner. I was really worried because they are heavy drinkers and I’m trying to cut back. So, I kept to my plan and had a NA drink, then only 1 glass of wine at dinner. I didn’t think I would make it but I did!!!12

An A day today, got up and did work, end of the day rolled around and turned into a dinner date at a nice Persian joint down the road. Figured I was probably already way over calories for the day and I've been doing good, gonna treat myself so I stopped at the grocery and grabbed two Real Ale Black Quads. Also spied a 6-pack of Deschutes Black Butte NA. I like the regular Black Butte Porter, so I grabbed that to try.
Digging around, I found an old American made Nicholson file in my toolbox that's seen better days, and decided to make two kiridashi knives out of it. So far, so good, we'll see how they turn out.
Bevel on one side, slow going with sanding drums in the Dremel and hand grinding with the diamond block. Dad will probably send me something cool to make scales from, possibly bits of wood salvaged from structures at the farm where he grew up or some other interesting bits that he has floating around. I asked, but he doesn't have any old files or tools from the farm.Below average progress. There is no such thing as a perfect father, don't ever beat yourself up over that false god. Hold tight to the knowledge that you were "good parents." My son has had his moments, and I've many times questioned whether I was good enough. Was I a good role model, did I lead by example, did I show him the things he needed in life, did I give him the tools he needed, did I do the right things, say the right things....right up to the day I kicked him out, I questioned it all and more. Funny. Not long after, he started saying things like, "I don't want to hear about it, but...you were right about a lot of things." Now I catch little things like "what would Dad do" slipping by in conversation, and I see that he's doing okay. Tough love is really hard, I know that, we all know that. Do what must be done, say what must be said, be there for her when she needs you most and know that it will be okay.

@Womona Nice work on the cocktail hour!
@Pokey4321 I don’t have human children so I can’t offer any advice there but know that she likely looks up to you and does need your guidance. If she doesn’t realize it today, she will someday.4 -
Not at all caught up on all the weekends posts from you guys. Will try and do that tomorrow.
A full 14 days AF now which feels good.
Happy Sunday.10 -

Jan 15 - AF-- I didn't enjoy my planned A days that much. Actually glad to be AF today. Maybe I'm getting sick of it? Or maybe I'm just in a funk.8 -
@joans1976 I’ll bet! You’ll be spending so much time and energy hugging your cat, and lint-rolling cat hair off everything that you won’t have time to crave a drink!
@tmbg1 I feel the same way! I’m not enjoying my “beloved” wine on A days as much as I always thought. With or without being in a funk.6 -
14 days AF. The memory of my last December 2-day hangover keeps me from "taking a day off" the plan. Got in a 5 hr hike yesterday and some sun so felt awesome and had an "easy" AF day.
Today I see as a challenge. It's raining in a torrential way here. Next 3 days we have rainy, gloomy weather so I am already in a sulky mood, which is dangerous for me because that is when I want to drink to lift my spirits.
It might me good for me to just drive to a used book store, get some travel books with trail maps and grab an XL cappuccino. Then pickup thai take-out for dinner. That could make me happy.

Ugh.
I mean, really? Two beers in four hours is gonna leave me feeling like this the next morning? I didn't even have a proper buzz...
I think I'm pretty much done now.
Ugh.

Funny story.
In my travels "up North" in Maine once. My late husband and I were literally deep in the North woods, had not seen another soul for over 4 hours and we round the corner of this logging road and there is the film crew from the reality show North Woods about the Pelletier family owned logging business.
While filming we could not pass through. So we sat and watched them. It was very cool. They were pulling a big logging rig out of a huge ditch.
I am sure my odd adventures will not stop since I moved. I am curious as to what lies ahead in Maui for me this year. I've never been to the Hawaiian Islands. We are excited for this trip.7 -
Ok everyone I have been off the rails for the last 4 days. Life.
Weight it up, body feels sluggish, not how I want to remember my weekend.
For me Monday is a new day to start my exercise routine I abandoned last week. With DH 'semi' retired. he will have to find his footing to be out from under my footing.
It took me awhile but I think I caught up on all your posts. It was like reading a riveting novel and you wonder about the outcome of the hero's. So many twists and turns our lives/choices and the unexpected happen.
I will be back, I am working on being more consistent. xxoo11
