Nice @Scott6255 . Glad you were able to "make yourself" go slower.
Great change of plans to match the weather and wonderful run @kgirlhart !
@tarun_yadavA Thanks for the Valentines wishes. Same to you. No plans here as there is no significant other in my life. Just hanging out with the dog.
@Laurz9191 Great place to run a Valentine's HM. You did great!3 -

Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
Hobbes the Vizsla is sending everyone Valentine's Day love!
@tarun_yadavA - We are having a pasta dinner. My DH proposed to me on Valentine's Day, a long time ago, when I was making spaghetti sauce so it has become a tradition for us. Sauce has been cooking down since yesterday and will be paired tonight with a salad, fresh baked sourdough bread and a nice bottle of wine.8 -
tarun_yadavA wrote: »ScienceofTeaching wrote: »@tarun_yadavA That pizza looks amazing! My husband hates pizza, so it's one of my go-to treats if he isn't home for dinner with me. That pizza hut picture makes me miss meeting my friends there in high school a long time ago. The ones closest to me have all been converted into other businesses, which makes me so sad!
@ScienceofTeaching Hi! Nice to meet you!
poor you! how does one hate pizza?? something like sushi i get - fish. cold fish etc. but pizza??
Anyways... yeah, agree. shame that dine-in pizza hut restaurants in the US are now quite rare. Salad bar, and them coming fresh out of the oven - best part! Delivery - ummm, just not the same thing!
He doesn't like melted cheese or red sauce! I've offered to just make him a crust with toppings, but he always turns that down hahaha.0 -
Thank you to everyone for the anniversary wishes! We did a nice 3 mile hike with 400 feet of incline. We had beautiful sunny weather, which was great! It was snowing and grey out for our actual wedding 2 years ago.
@tarun_yadavA We got takeout from Bravo. I had enough chicken marsala for dinner and again for lunch today!

@AlphaHowls That's a lot of crazy laps! You are a rock star. Love the photos. That heart shaped cloud is awesome. Beautiful sunrise this morning too!
@shanaber Hobbes is the best Valentine! Enjoy your special dinner tonight. That's so cool that you all do that for your engagement anniversary!
I did the hill repeats today. I was running behind on time by the time I got out, so cut the warm up and cool down runs short. It was 63F-66F (17.2C-18.9C) today. I walked a total of 1 mile for warm up and cool down. The run was 5 min easy, 6 x (1 min hard uphill/2 min recovery), 7:35 easy. The hill repeats were horrible today. I usually love them, but I just had a rough time today. I almost gave it up after the first one, but made myself finish and slow down a little if I needed to. I ran a total of 2.10 miles. I estimated the average pace for the hills, based on the Garmin graph, and figured I did them at about a 12:15 min/mile pace. My avg HR was 134 and max 154 bpm. I'm glad I did it, but also glad it is behind me.
My internet is going in and out again tonight. When it does that, I can't get the tickerfactory to settle down enough to make an updated ticker. So, I'll just say that I am up to 47.55/70 mile goal.5 -
@quilteryoyo way to get in the hill work today! That is hard work!!
@AlphaHowls cool heart cloud. So appropriate for today (even if it was on Saturday).
@Laurz9191 nice Valentine's HM!!
I didn't feel like fighting the 40mph wind today, so treadmilled it for 7 miles.

2/11: 10 miles

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!
My run today was a progression run peaking at 10k pace. I am not great at doing progression runs outside. It’s hard to know what pace I’m going at any given time so the gradual speed increase usually means I overshoot the peak pace. That happened again today, but my splits progressed in the right direction so I’m calling it a win.
I got new shoes! NB 1080’s. After my Achilles tendinitis last fall, the sports medicine guy I was seeing had me use my ghosts exclusively, which are a higher drop (12mm). You may remember I found new shoes that I loved, Hoka Mach’s. Those apparently only have a 5mm drop. He said the difference in drop probably wasn’t the reason for the tendinitis flare, but it likely didn’t help. He suggested getting a shoe with a drop between the two to let my achilles adjust to the different drops more gradually. These are an 8mm drop, so right between the 2. So far, I like them a lot. Beyond the drop, they also have a feel between the 2 shoes. They have a good amount of cushion, aren’t quite as springy as the Mach’s, but feel lighter than the ghosts.

@tarun_yadavAPizza to re-carb?? Lol.
@martaindale Nice shoes and good job on your progression run!
@quilteryoyo Good job completing your hill repeats even though it was hard!
@AlphaHowls Nice pictures!
@Scott6255 I can't blame you for not wanting to run in 40mph winds, unless they were tailwinds . Good job treadmilling it!
@shanaber Hobbes seems to be quite the Valentine's fan! That's a nice tradition you and DH have!
The weather here is great today! But I wanted to do a little bit of strength training and so I opted for the gym and ran 7.5K on the treadmill. Legs are slightly sore from yesterday's HM, but overall I am starting to feel ready for my racing HM in 5 weeks.

Morning everyone ☺️
Got a 4M run in today. Felt a little stiff out there.
@shanaber @AlphaHowls @Laurz9191 - love the pics!
@Laurz9191 - well done on getting in that pizza!!
PS: know the feeling with fussy eater kids. 14 year old is an animal - chillies, jalapenos, hot sauce, ranch on his pizza; 8 year old is fussy. We had tears on holidays in South Africa last year, when the waitress lady mis-heard and there were jalapeños on both sides. So I feel you.
I'm getting grumpy in my 40s (think Danny Glover character in those Lethal Weapon movies "I'm getting too old for this s**t"), so patience is a lot less. "JUST PICK THEM OFF!!! You are an eight year old boy!!" Which of course, makes it worse and we have tears. Ugh.
Joys of parenting!
As for Valentine's... Mother-in-law is sick (70s, stroke/wheelchair bound - so not best health), so wife left a couple of nights ago. 14 year old and I watched 'Plane' last night, with Gerrard Butler. Decent!5 -
Ha @martaindale I the New Balance 1080v12 is what I got after years of being a faithful Ghost runner 😁 I liked them for the same reasons, except the tongue keeps slipping down during runs, no matter how tight I tie them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯4
-
Don't blame you for running on the treadmill instead of 40 mph winds @Scott6255 !
Nice running @martaindale ! Love the new shoes. I hope they work well for you.
@Laurz9191 Nice recovery work out and your are going to kill your racing HM!
@tarun_yadavA Nice pace for first recovery run. I hope the stiffness/soreness goes away quickly. I know your MIL being ill is hard on everyone. Glad you were able to have a nice relaxing evening with your son.

Mostly cloudy, low 50s F, with a strong, gusty wind from the southwest. Was very nice to get out in shorts and a short sleeved tech shirt, although I did have to wear my hat backward so it wouldn't get blown off my head. It's supposed to be in the 20s F with snow on Friday.7 -
I got my :26 min run/walk prescribed by my Garmin coach. I've stayed on track for two weeks now. It will be picking up over the next couple of weeks.6

Well done!!!!!1 -
Ohhh, @martaindale nice, very white, new shoes!! 😁
@Laurz9191 - Hobbes likes all the holidays and has bowties for most of them. Really, he is very, very social and I think he enjoys the attention he gets.
@Tramboman - I am shocked that you are in shorts and and short-sleeved shirt as well as trout fishing in February! Is that an early record for Alberta (if I recall that is where you are located)?
@tarun_yadavA - I am so sorry your MIL is sick. It is tough when they are already not in great health. I am amazed you were already able to get out for a 4 mile run. Be sure to give your body plenty of time to recover.
I have gotten in a few walks, including 5 miles yesterday. I am up to a huge 16 miles so far and no actual runs... going to be a really low month for me.3 -
-
Nice run and weather today @Tramboman ! The drastic changes in temps this year seem to be worse than normal. Same thing here, except freezing on Sat. It's almost 70F right now.
Great consistency @chris_in_cal !
@shanaber The mileage might be low, but you should be proud of yourself for getting out there and doing what you can. You're not letting it stop you!

Another unseasonably warm day here. February is normally one of our coldest, snowiest months, so I don't know what the weather has been up to. 70 degrees today might be a record high.
Husband couldn't pass up this weather, so he called a last minute, pre-season practice for his tennis team. Since we carpool to work, I come with him to tennis practice and split the time between exercise and grading/planning/playing on my phone.
This weather has me feeling great, so I really pushed myself. 2.65 miles total. First mile was slow run except for 2 quick walk breaks to catch my breath (forgot my inhaler in the car and knew that if I went back I would give up), second mile I split into .1 mile walk, .1 mile run, and the last .65 was a walk to cool down. I was hoping for an even 3 miles, but a couple of men showed up on the nature trails and were acting sort of sketchy, so I decided to cut the end of my walk short and head out of the trails and back toward the more populated part of the park.
Overall, I'm really proud of myself for this one. I haven't done a full mile of running on a few years, so even if it was very slow, it's a good start!10 -

Northeast Ohio....
I've been fishing about once per week, weather permitting.4 -
@tarun_yadavA sorry to hear about your MIL. That does make it tough on the whole family.
Great job @chris_in_cal and @ScienceofTeaching!
Winds died down to only 20mph, but temp was in upper 70s. Supposed to only be in the low 40s tomorrow so thought I should get outside today. Got in 8 miles.

Ok makes more sense for NE Ohio but still seems unusual for mid-February... maybe it was @juliet3455 who is in Alberta?2 -

Morning all.
Got in another 4M!
Thanks for all the kind words, RE: M-i-L @quilteryoyo @Scott6255Unfortunately, she's a 70+ wheelchair-bound for the most part, immobile woman that is overweight/obese and very stubborn. Refuses to change lifestyle. Super frustrating.
@eleanorhawkins - thanks for suggestions. Swimming is something I'd consider. That said, I'd need to man-scape first. Have a super hairy back and self-conscious about it. Not sure what's worse- tightness in glute-hammy, or getting back waxed after 6M! 😂
Think I'll be okay running (gently, to start with!) 🤞6 -
@Scott6255 Great minds think alike! I didn't notice the tongue issue on my first run, so hopefully won't be a problem. That would be super annoying.
@ScienceofTeaching Yay first mile straight through! That's such a good feeling.
@tarun_yadavA Sorry to hear about your MIL.3 -

Yesterday I went to Pilates then did my 3 miles. IDK if I'll do that again. This run was easy/recovery so I thought it would be fine, but Pilates was HARD and my legs were so done. We did a ton of glute/hip stabilizer exercises and squats. They loosened up a bit after the first mile. In the future I'll either run before pilates or move it.3 -
@tarun_yadavA Also sorry to hear about the MIL!
@martaindale I can imagine running after strength training is probably more difficult. I always do it the other way around too.
Today I did a tempo run with 42 minutes at an average of 5:30/km pace, plus a warm up, cool down. My legs felt good and I was surprised that I could hold the speed well, when a month ago it felt like I was barely holding on at that speed. The temperature was slightly above freezing, which was pleasant enough. I noticed that I need to take 1-2 rest days after this intense running week. I do want to work some strength training exercises in though. In total I ran 11.11km .
So far for February I have logged 138.5/200km4 -
I'm so behind again, speed reading and liking and hugging! Commenting on most recent only simply due to time (lack of)
@tarun_yadavA please be gentle with yourself, you just ran a marathon (or two). Also sorry about MIL, these things are hard.
@martaindale put the activity you care about the most first was the advice I was given.
@Laurz9191 impressive mileage!
I'm feeling recovered from my race, in fact tomorrow I'm going to check out the route of a 30k on 28 Feb that I'll probably accidentally sign up for. It's a new addition to the local rural HM I got my PR at last year. I didn't think we would be here for it, but it looks like we will.

February total: 66.9/125 miles
2/1: 3.1 miles
2/3: 5.2 miles
2/4: 9 miles
2/6: 5.1 miles
2/7: 5.5 miles
2/8: 3.2 miles
2/10: 6.3 miles
2/11: 10 miles
2/13: 5 miles
2/14: 5 miles
2/15: 3 miles
2/16: 6.5 miles
It was beautiful this morning. A front is blowing in so it was about 60F, relatively low humidity with some wind. Temps actually dropped a few degrees during my run and will continue to drop throughout the day. Workout today was 5 mi at HM pace with 1 mi WU/0.5 mi CD.
This was a weird pace run. The first mile was on target (yay I'm remembering this pace!). Mile 2 was 4 secs slow (not bad). Mile 3 was 6 secs slow (uh oh, headed the wrong direction). Mile 4 and 5 were 21 and 19 secs fast (what?). When I saw the massive pace drop from mile 3 to 4, I knew the wind was playing a bigger role that I thought. Part of mile 2 and all of mile 3 was directly into a steady headwind, 14 mph it turns out. So, when I was working to maintain effort, thinking my tired legs just weren't holding out this morning, I was really over-running my paces by a significant margin.
The workouts this week and last have been decent. I think if the weather cooperates, I have a reasonable expectation of shooting for a HM PR. So, now to stalk the forecast and hope it's not hot. I can wait a bit more before committing. While this course is a decent one to shoot for a PR, I don't love it. I certainly don't love it enough to do it for fun.5
