    02/05-195.6-(Trend Weight: 196.7)-

02/12-193.6-(Trend Weight: 195.5)- It’s been a very good week of following plan for me. Not perfect for sure, but so much better. I have also worked on improving water intake and using my exercise machines I have at home (exercise bike and treadmill). I did have one or two mini-binges so I am trying to find replacements for my cravings that will be enough. It’s certainly a process! My mini goal was to lose 10 pounds between Dec 10th and April 9th (Easter). Even an older person like me with lots of excuses (though most are valid) should be able to do that! So far, so good. My weight was 198.4 on Dec. 10th. I’m giving it everything I’ve got!

02/19-195.2-(Trend Weight: 195.2)- I saw a dietician in the past week for my Type 2 Diabetes and she has turned my world upside down. She is pulling me away from Intermittent Fasting, asking for 3-6 small meals per day and upping my carbs from 90 to 190-250 !!! I am in total shock and am so very scared about all this advice. It seems so counter-productive and against all the research I have done over the years. It’s even against what my family doctor has recommended. She assures me that this is approved by my endocrinologist and will be effective for my blood glucose numbers as well as my weight. I tried yesterday to at least reach a 45% goal of 158g in carbs but I couldn’t do it without going over my 1400 calories (she approved of the calories). She wants my carb macros to reach 65% and I couldn’t even reach 45. She wants my protein very low (to protect kidneys ?) and my fats limited due to my heart issues. I don’t eat the low calorie things like veggies or fruits so it is making this almost impossible. I tried to explain to her my aversions to so many foods and my eating disorders but she doesn’t get it. Yesterday I tried really hard to tweak the menu in so many ways to at least get the 158 but I only made it to 117g and that put me over by one calorie at 1401. This is going to take some creativity and a lot of work. I do feel that I may still be able to lose some weight because of the 1400 calorie limits, but it won’t be as dramatic as the lower carb version of my 1400 calorie in-calorie out diet I was practicing. She promises this will be safer for me as I am a cardiac patient with heart disease too. We shall see. I’m really worried that it will make my blood glucose numbers worse. I’ve always been told to lower my carbs as a T2D person!

I weigh in every day and calculate weekly averages. Target: lose 12 lbs / 12 weeks.
It has been 2 weeks ago, but here we are :-)
    Week 0 (up to January 8th): 96.8 kg / 213.4 lbs
    Week 6 (February 19th): 95.9 k / 211.4 lbs
    Week 7 (February 26th): 95.2 k / 209.0 lbs (lost this week: 0.7 kg / 1.5 lbs; lost in total 1.6 kg / 3.5 lbs)
After weeks with trips, celebrations, covid-isolation and lots of work, losing again in the last week is a good result. With more relaxing weeks ahead it will be easier to stick to the plan and really get some weight off and some physical activity in!

02/05-195.6-(Trend Weight: 196.7)- Well, darn it anyway! I lost a little progress but nothing I can’t quickly make up if I stick to it and give it the old college try! I am still doing well from my challenge start weight so I will focus on that. We don’t want to get too upset and fall into emotional eating! My goal this month (5 lb loss) would put me into a new decade—the 180’s. It’s like a dream……. Can I really do THAT?

02/26-190.4-(Trend Weight: 193.1)-I tried the dietician’s advice for 4 days and my weight shot back up to 197 and my glucose to almost 300, just like I knew it would. I stopped the idiosy and went back to my own plan which is working again. As you can see my weight is down and my glucose is going back down from the dangerous rise she caused. I am not arrogant, or one to doubt a professional, but her advice was against everything that a diabetic has otherwise been taught. It is against EVERYTHING my family physician has advised. It is against everything I was taught at the last dietician’s office (though that was about 15 years ago, so I gave this a chance.), it is against everything I’ve researched from prominent and trustworthy sources like Mayo Clinic, Harvard School of Medicine and the American Diabetes Association. Lower carbs are what a diabetic needs to do, like it or not. I have 3 more appointments with her and if I go, she won’t be happy with me. My endo has given me 90 days to improve my glucose or go on insulin shots. This was not the time for her to mess with my glucose numbers and my weight. I couldn’t afford the experiment or the damage during this time. I’m happy with my decision and so are all my numbers (weight, glucose and blood pressure). Yesterday I hit February’s goal of exactly 189.8. Today it is up a pound with a normal fluctuation. My plan is working.

@deepwoodslady are you going to take some reference information from the diabetes association with you to your next dietician appointment? The dietician sounds dangerous and needs to be called out. Can you ask for a different dietician?

I am pleased I have been being consistent over the weekends. I seem to be slowly making the changes to my thinking that should hopefully help me maintain.

@refactored Unfortunately, she is the only dietician in the area and I travel over an hour just to see her. I live in a very rural Amish area. However, taking some of the information with me is an excellent idea! I still have not decided whether I am even going to keep the 3 remaining appointments. But I don't want to get a bad "grade" on my "report card" with the endo or with cardiac rehab who both pushed for this. So I'm not sure yet. I think I will print some things and have them ready in case I follow thru. Thanks so much for the idea!

I keep having these big fluctuations, but it's helpful seeing the weekly trend. (I still prefer weighing daily despite fluctuations).

My weight loss has picked up this year. I used to lose about 4-5 pounds a month, now I've lost almost 15 in two months. Sweet. Very happy to be under 250 now.

My name is Donna. I am 62 years old, 5' 5" tall. I live in the Midwest of USA. I am in remission for breast cancer, have Type 2 Diabetes, an under active thyroid, high blood pressure and cholesterol, some osteoporosis and coronary heart disease with a stent in my heart. I am working to get healthier. I know losing weight and exercising more will help all of these issues.

Weight in blue makes me blue because it’s a gain. Weight in fuchsia pink makes me feel cheery because it’s a loss. Weight in black means no change.

02/12-193.6-(Trend Weight: 195.5)- It’s been a very good week of following plan for me. Not perfect for sure, but so much better. I have also worked on improving water intake and using my exercise machines I have at home (exercise bike and treadmill).
