THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

4/22 149.0 (trend 149.8) Started the round with a bit of a binge-fest last night, so that's not good! We had a trip to Oxford in the afternoon, so I got in a 3 mile walk along the river while waiting for OH to finish with his doctors appointment there.
I had the house to myself in the evening, so I took full advantage of stretching out on the sofa, watching tacky films until the wee small hours.
STEPS 7,134
4/23 149.4 (149.8) Had a slow morning, then got to the gym after lunch for a lower body workout. Totm started yesterday, and it affected most of my sets as I had to lower the weights on my lifts, so that was annoying. Got out for a 2 mile walk around town in the evening with OH, then a small pizza and a few beers with a film. Pretty much ate at maintenance, no tmi is probably why the gain today.
STEPS 8,564
4/24 150.0 (trend 149.8) We decided to skip breakfast and go for a walk and pub lunch. Did a 6 mile walk around a reservoir and didn't end up eating until 4pm, had Hunter's chicken with chips and salad, then overdid it with some snacks in the evening. I'm going to try my absolute hardest to stick to 1200 calories this week.
STEPS 15,684
4/25 149.2 (trend 149.7) 2 mile walk in the morning, then upper body workout. Made a huge batch of hot and sour chicken and vegetable soup, which should help me get back on track. Stayed within calories and only just got my steps goal.
STEPS 8,531
4/26 148.4 (trend 149.6) 2.5 mile walk in the morning followed by 1hr lower body workout at the gym. My daughter made mini chocolate muffins, which I couldn't resist, so I had 2. I had to estimate the calories for these, 260? Stayed within calories, so long as my estimate was close. Not getting enough protein at the moment.

Oooh, cottage cheese and fruit! Only ever had it with pineapple, never thought of adding my own and I'm going to try it! Banana I think will be very filling.
My favorite cottage cheese is pre-made up north (nothing good in Florida IMO) is cucumber and dill. I really need to work on replicating it using the plain cottage cheese, so I can have it where ever I am. It is also really hard to find as not many stores sell it.4 -
GIVE ME 10 DAYS – ROUND 221
Round 221
April 22 – May 1, 2023
61 year old female, 5’5”. I am married, semi-nomadic (we live in three states, Mass, Maine, Florida).
Goal for Round 221 – This round will end with the challenge of traveling home 1600 miles, with a full day stop at MIL’s, followed by the last 1400 miles of the trip. Final weigh-in will be the morning after I return home (if the drive goes as planned). My dream for my time in Florida was to return home weighing less than 130, a place I had gotten to with the help this group in 2021. Returning home is the May 1 of this round. So my goal for this round is to be under 130 on May 1.
History:
Harry and Han are our cats, who travel with us. Have two “kids”, who are very much adults, a DGS, and second GS on the way. We have three parents, 88(father), 86(mother), 84(MIL) still with us, and I have logically been needing to help them more as they age. I got my act in gear during COVID, somewhat inspired by NOT becoming my parents. I lost 30 lbs and was exercising daily. Unfortunately, I am an “all in or not” person. Selling family home distractions, plus medical incident with my father and all their new needs, became an excuse. A year and a half later, I gained 25 lbs and lost all my athletic improvements. I need to figure out balance and how to make health be a daily priority for life!

Day/Weight/Comment
4/22 – 130.4 Last night, I just…needed….something…..more. Was not feeling like embracing the slight hunger of evening. I did track it all though, and came in around 2000 calories total (even tracking is still only best estimates). Combined with my activity for the day, I doubt it explains a true gain. So we shall see.
4/23 – 130.4 Again, total calories purportedly good, but I did make some poor selection making up those calories. On top of it, I feel “big” today. Will eat cleaner today and see how that all settles out tomorrow.
4/24 – 129.6 Back to the weight I saw during late round 220. Looks like I am in a slow moving patch. Yesterday, calories were good (1534), walked 6.5 miles formally, played over an hour of doubles pickleball. Just seems like getting into the 120’s and staying will take concentration. Today will have its challenges. We leave Thursday and pantry and fridge need reductions, so grocery shopping is minimal and balance of meals is less optimal, even when I am making a good effort. Then on top of it, Hubby wants Thai food one last time before we leave. That is tonight (then Chinese with his mother on Thursday…..). Just need to do my best for the round. If I am careful, I should be under 130 on May 1 like I am hoping.
4/25 – 130.8 I would have bet money on that! :P Pad Thai for dinner. Exercise was good. I did my 3 laps (6.5 miles) and later in the day, as a test, I got on the spin bike. Just 11 minutes. But I wanted to test my Florida shoes with my Neuroma, and they were great. I know my shoes up north are different. Now, when I get there, if I find them uncomfortable, I know the exact shoes to replace them with. Northern exercise will be a change. I do not have a walking group. That will actually help me to diversify, which a truly need to do (group walks much slower than I prefer). Have today’s food all planned out. Fridge is close to empty. More packing and cleaning today, and starting to load the Florida car (we switch at MIL’s – my Friday task)
4/26 – 130.2 Round and round we go, where it will stop nobody knows. :P Calories were good enough. Choices are still associated with emptying the fridge. Got two laps in before the sky opened up (happy for the Keys, the rain is needed), and did another spinning test drive. Today ends with pre-tracked pizza.

Good Morning!
My whyI am playing a game with myself & setting little daily goals of losing 0.35lbs per day and using those goals to help me stay motivated and on track is a way of fasting that I saw in another group. Using my bathroom scale as a weight loss tool works for me. There are days that my weight increases by 2 pounds or more, and I understand that this is mainly water weight, and can go away as quickly as it came. That is why there are times that my daily goal and my weight that day are pounds apart. I am not expecting to lose 2 pounds of body fat by the next day. But it is possible to lose 2 pounds of water weight by the next day, so I stick to my goals. If it takes longer than one day to lose that water weight, I extend my fast for another day. Sticking to my plan, I will reach my 1st goal weight of 172 pounds on September 16 2023. This will put me in the overweight weight range which I have not seen since 2007. At that point I will decrease the daily amount to 0.2lbs per day to get to my ultimate goal of 140 by my birthday in February. I also have a cruise booked for my birthday & one of the tours offers a mini photoshoot. What a great opportunity to be at my goal & get semi professional pictures on the beach!
I did an extended fast on April 9th that lasted almost 9 days. That got me back on track after Easter.
Round 218 SW 232.4 EW 231lbs (-1.4)
Round 219 EW 229lbs (-2)
Round 220 220.2lbs (-8.8) (Extended fast)
Goals for this round:

Weightlifting 5x
Previous days this round4/22 -Goal 222.4 /Actual 221.8.
I am not complaining about the scale 🙊 I know this is what happens. I am still almost down 10lbs, my eating is better, low calories, less mindless unplanned eating. I made fried kimchi cauliflower rice with shrimp last night that had great macros & was very satisfying & tasty. I had never tried kimchi before but we picked up a huge jar at Costco & fortunately we like it. I will probably make it again this week. I am challenging myself to cook with what we have in the house, everything is super full so I will have to do some digging in the cupboards & freezer & make some good low carb dishes.
4/23 -Goal 222.1 /Actual 222.6
Already another fasting day. I thought it would take until Monday. Oh well, no big deal. I have some meals to prep today for the week, hot yoga this morning & I will take the dog for a walk. I was noticing yesterday that I was moving better & felt lighter. The scale does not agree but I will not get frustrated. I knew going into this that the scale sucks. I continue to stick to my plan, fast when I am over the projected goal & know that it is just a number & does not represent failure.I have been eating under 1000 calories since I broke my fast except yesterday I had around 1400. I have not been drinking enough water & honestly now that I think of it I did some boredom/procrastination eating that I did not track. No big deal, it can be fixed but I need a strategy to stop that. Well, at least I have a strategy to deal with it when it does happen before it leads to weeks & months!
4/24 -Goal 221.7 /Actual 221.4
Well I didn’t fast yesterday but I was very mindful & ate low carb & less calories. I cooked ahead & should have enough food cooked for the week that I don’t have to worry about coming home from work & settling for taquitos & pizza pops. I will be working most of the week & starting to train seasonal staff so that they are ready when pool season starts. In yoga yesterday the instructor suggested something that reinforced my current goals. Self care, exercise, taking care of this extra weight is so important so that I am not a burden on those around me. My mobility is not affected now, but it will be in the future if I don’t take care of myself now.
4/25 -Goal 221.4/Actual 221.4
I am exactly on track. It should feel good but somehow I feel behind. This feeling of inadequacy is creeping into other areas of my life & affecting other people. I feel a little out of control because there is no way I can control everything. Oh well, obviously I am going through another period of growth & development. I believe this time I will reach my weight loss goal which will give me a sense of accomplishment so that I can move on. At least I hope that’s what is going to happen!
4/26 -Goal 221.0 /Actual 221.8
Well, I had more calories & carbs yesterday so it makes sense that I am up a bit. No big deal, it is just water & it will be gone tomorrow. That’s the joy of doing it this way. I am on track again today, I have a goal to meet & if I don’t, I fast. I do have to get myself to the gym. I am tired when I leave work but that isn’t a good enough excuse. I need to get there before I head home. It all seems so simple doesn’t it?

That's INSANITY!
You can purchase an entire gym with just 2 months of that.
That's what we did during covid.
I couldn't jeopardize my high-risk husband, so we bought a small set of gym stuff for home:
- cage rack
- 1 set of weights, plus lots of dumbbells
- treadmill, Nordic stepper, heavy bag.
I used to love working out at the gym,
because home stuff would distract me:
- do a load of laundry
- take out stuff from freezer to defrost for dinner
- walk the dog, etc.
But now (since February), I'm liking just walking down the stairs, do my work-out, and be done, without having to leave the warmth of my home.
We actually have a nice set up at home but for whatever reason, I’m more disciplined at the gym. I don’t stick to finishing my workout when I’m home. But yeah, I was like uhhh that’s way too much for me to spend.

EW round 220 - 172.2 down 1.3 lbs

Goals for round 221
To hit 170!!! And hit an 80 lbs total loss! I can do this!!!
Water! Water! Water!
Run every other day
4/22 - 172.4
4/23 - 172.2 - The HS had a huge fundraiser and the last 2 days I’ve been volunteering to help deliver 31,000 bags of mulch! I’m wore out!
4/24 - 173.0 - there’s the increase I was anticipating. Making sure to get all of my water in today and hopefully hit the gym at lunch today.
4/25 - 173.7 - well *kitten*, wrong way again. Did some strength training during lunch today. The new gym gave me a free hour with a personal trainer, which was cool. Of course, with the hopes of me buying a package with the trainer. HOLY COW! The package a month was as much as my mortgage! Not saying I didn’t learn anything but I could not justify the cost of $760 a month for 3 hrs a week. My weigh in is with my dr tomorrow so I’m hoping I go back to 172 tomorrow.
4/26 -172.4 - Better than yesterday. Weigh in with my dr is today. Went to the gym last night and got a good walk/run in.7 -

@Lisapower123 Ooooo That actually sounds really good. That one I like is made by Hood Dairy and it is a New England area product. https://hood.com/products/cottage-cheese/savory-cottage-cheese/cottage-cheese-with-cucumber-and-dill Apparently there is onion added as well. Just not in the title.2 -
@musicsax and all I used to chop assorted vegetables to mix into cottage cheese for lunch. Fresh peaches in cottage cheese are also delish!3

Joining late this round!
SW Round 221: 126 (4/24)
4/22 - DNW
4/23 - DNW
4/24 - 126! I am really off the rails here. 4 full pounds above my maintenance range. We booked a beach vacation for Memorial Day week this morning so I am hoping to use feeling good in my bikini as a motivator to get back on track. I spent the weekend away from the challenge because I did a brief digital detox. In the process I realized how bad social media is for me, so I am going to stop it all together for a while. MFP doesn't fall in the same category as TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook.
4/25 - 123, phew. That was a lot of water! Fasted most of the day yesterday and just had two light meals between 4 and 8 after doing a Peloton ride and dog walk. I doubt I'll make it as long fasting today but I might have lunch a little late just to avoid snacking. I'm making pork chops and sugar snap peas for dinner tonight. My first time making pork chops since I didn't eat most meat for a long time. I mostly just hope my kids will eat it. They're getting pickier by the day. And I'm sneaking out at lunch time for my first hair cut in approximately two years. It's gotten so long that I wonder if I'll lose a pound of hair
4/26 - 123 again. That's better than I expected TBH. Still might see a gain tomorrow after the dinner/drinks I had last night. We had an impromptu dinner out after my husband's brand new ebike broke when he was commuting home and messed up our pork chop plans (if I cook I need him to do daycare pickup; the kids cannot make it to a late dinner on a weeknight after daycare). I didn't make the best choices, but I did stop eating when I realized I didn't like my food very much. BUT then the snackies hit when we were watching TV. I at least tried to track it, but I went way over my calorie goal. Today will be better!

- Water: Shoot for 80oz per day
- Binge-Free & Sugar-Free for 100 days (46 days at the beginning of this round)
- Reduce added salt
- Lots of veggies and protein, some fruit (very little processed foods or simple carbs which I hardly ever have)
- I need to figure out a way to get more fiber, especially from grains.

Round 221
Previous Days' Notes:4/22: DNW Walk/Bike✅ Water✅ Calories✅ I'm not weighing for a few more days. I ate at maintenance for two days and at my low end of my calorie range yesterday. I was looking thru my summer clothes that I haven't worn for at least 7 or 8 years and the tops look so small. I'm small boned but did I really wear those? I'll have to revaluate my goal weight when I get closer because I think I'll be shooting for something a little higher. But figuring that out will be a good problem to have that I look so forward to!
4/23: DNW Walk/Bike✅ Water✅ Calories✅ I'm still not weighing. I can just tell I will weigh more after eating chili for days. I didn't cook any dry beans and used canned, so full of salt. I ate at maintenance for a couple of days, and then my lower calorie range the past 2 days. I'm going to weigh tomorrow and hope to still see the 160's.
I reread my post from yesterday and it sounds like I'm saying I could now wear the summer clothes from 7 or 8 years ago - I WISH! I was trying to say how small they look, and they do not fit me yet, and do I even want to get that small again. I think a lot of people have a certain weight that's stuck in their head as their ideal weight to get back to. Mine is 115, which is what I weighed when I wore these clothes. I need to reevaluate that when I get closer because I don't think I'll want to go that small again. We shall see....
4/24: 168.8 Bike✅ Water✅ Calories✅ I am so happy to see this number this morning. It's been 7 weeks today that I started my 100-day binge-free and sugar-free challenge. I've lost 11 pounds. That's 1.5 pounds per week. I had just binged for 2 days prior to starting the challenge on March 6 so lost the first 2 pounds of water weight fast, so it's more like 1.3 pounds per week, either way I'm extremely happy. My calorie cycling weekly average was 1350 even with a few maintenace days averaged in. I rowed, biked or walked most days. And I feel so much better! I have definitely learned from all of you that losing weight is not a down-hill hike, you have valleys and hills, and booby-traps the entire journey.
4/25: 169.0 Bike✅ Water✅ Calories✅ I've eaten on the low end of my calorie range for the past 3 days. I'll go for the higher end for the next few days. I'm going to make succotash today. It was the meal my Grandmother always made us - with cornbread and cole slaw, of course. I froze a little ham to pull out as a starter for beans. Then I just add corn and lima beans. That's it. I cook it down a lot. I just love it but I'm sure this goes way back to my Grandmother making it.
4/22: DNW
4/23: DNW
4/24: 168.8
4/25: 169.0
4/26: 169.6 Ugh! Bike❎ Water✅ Calories✅ On a positive note, I haven't jumped back to the 170's. I wish I had not weighed for a few days like I've done recently. I like not having to watch the up and downs. I did think I would drop today. However, my average calories have been too low for the past 4 days. I had planned to go to the higher end of my calorie range yesterday, but didn't. I end up doing IF unintentionally by not eating until Noon because I'm not hungry in the mornings and I stop eating at 7pm. I'm also finding that I get full faster since I've been binge-free for 50 days (who is this person??!) So, I do wonder if the too few calories is affecting my weight dropping, or the soup I made yesterday may have been considered high carb?? and it's water weight. Or too much salt in the chicken broth (it wasn't low sodium). I'm going to make sure I do eat at my higher calorie range the next few days. I ended up making soup instead of succotash. I used very lean stew beef I bought from a local farmer. I added lots of celery because it was starting to go bad so used the entire stalk, potatoes, kidney beans, lima beans, corn, carrots, tomatoes and chicken broth. It was 156 calories per cup. I tried an alternative flour for the first time to wheat flour to make cornbread muffins for my husband. He doesn't eat wheat. He said they were good. I didn't eat any

5/01:Bingeing is why I'm where I am now. I want to see the results with 100 days of no bingeing. I'm not talking about going over calories from overeating a little, I'm talking full-out bingeing. And that's not just on bad foods, even when I'm eating well, I'll binge. This will be extremely challenging but if I stick to it (and stay off sugar and simple carbs to stop cravings), there is no way I'm not going to see consistent weight loss during these 100 days (not to mention the health benefits)! Part of this challenge, too, is if I do have a slip, that I don't revert back to old habits of bingeing for days/weeks/months. I will acknowledge the slip, celebrate that it didn't derail me, and just keep on keeping on.100-day Binge-free Challenge starting March 6…

Here for another round! Would really like to dip into the 160's by May 1 so this is the perfect round to do that. I'm really finding I do best the days I get outside for activity, we have an EP area with tonnes of trails near our house and I was really consistent getting out for a hike 4-5 times a week in the winter and for some reason I've had a harder time motivating myself to go that way when we leave for our walk in the morning, not sure why. So I'm going to challenge myself to not go two days in a row of not hiking this round.
Female - 51yrs - 5'5"
Goal weight - to hang out somewhere 145-150
R220 EW 4/21 - 170.8
4/22 - 171.0 - little blip up. I started feeling the TOM bloat yesterday and still a bit puffy this morning, hopefully it will flush out as TOM wraps up over the next day or so. It's pouring out, and not supposed to let up, so I might be starting this round with a non hike day, but we went yesterday. I know I can hike in the rain, but I really don't want to bathe the dog after LOL...he's curly haired and holds onto EVERYTHING when he gets wet.
4/23 - 172.2 - bleh! Yuck day yesterday...icky walk in the rain, grey and dreary, no motivation...except to make cookies for the boys...which of course required quality control. I know I didn't eat over 3500 calories in cookies though (probably only 500-600) so it's likely just retention shock from the carbs and sugar my body isn't used to anymore. Finishing my coffee and heading out to the woods for a hike since I missed it yesterday.
4/24 - 171.2 - back in the right direction. Got my hike in yesterday and stayed away from the cookies. Plan is to do the same today.
4/25 - 170.4 - Excellent! Proud of myself for actually going for a hike in the drizzle yesterday! Was going to do another today but Hubby asked me to help with some errands this morning so I don't have time before we need to leave. We will get a quick walk in and maybe another this evening. Calories and logging were good yesterday as well, so far so good this week! If I keep this up I'll definitely be dipping into the 160s!!
4/26 - 169.8 - YES!!!! now to keep it under 170!! Need to make this a quick one...gotta get out for our hike early so we're back in time to take the doggo to the vet for his annual stuff.

@huango We've done the same thing. Everything we need to exercise is in our basement. I use to go to the gym but love just going downstairs. I find I workout more often. I'm so lazy that I even have workout shoes that I don't have to tie - no excuses at all. LOL5 -

Finally, though of course I could bounce back up. I looked back at records and I’ve been hovering here (180-182) for wayyyyy too long. The only good thing about a 3-year plateau is that I haven’t gone higher, and have obviously hit a stasis no matter what I eat (within reason). Sigh. I’ve got to get a grip.
4/23 - 183.2
No idea. Maybe salt/water. Not calories! Boy, it’s turned really cold again. Yuck. We’re getting pad Thai for lunch/dinner, and I’m going to enjoy every bite! Have a lovely Sunday, all.
4/24 - 181.8
That’s better, in spite of the pad Thai, which was delish. Today will be much lighter—light bran muffin for breakfast, salad with salmon for lunch, lentils and brown rice for dinner. It’s chilly right now but should be nice for a walk in a couple of hours. Have a great Monday!

I’m getting tired of cold and rainy. I tried for a walk yesterday and got hailed on. Oh, well, it’s April in Indiana. The daffodils and redbuds are spectacular! 😊

Looks like a nice day coming up. On my way out for a dog walk, and I’m planning another faster walk for myself later, and som3 yard work. I can’t wait for warm enough weather to start planting things! 🌷 Gardening is my weight training. 😊
