Today I am just puttering, catching up on chores and going to Costco. I’ll check on my pottery piece at some point. Maybe I’ll get in the pool for awhile.
This evening we will pick up meals from the Bistro and walk over to the cottage of our friends Tom & Dolly. We will have a pleasant meal on the screened-in porch looking out to the woods, listening to the birds as the sun sets.
Dolly was one of my professors, we discovered, and she is curious and well-read. Tom is a man who truly likes women. Plus he’s really smart and has had a brilliant, interesting life. Both of them are excellent conversationalists.
I love having conversation with people who don’t talk over other people. These people are very interested in what other people have to say. And they have such interesting thoughts and ideas. It will be a fun evening.

Tracey - One of the things that I learned in a writing class, oddly enough, is that the villain of the story, no matter how awful they are, truly believes they're the hero. I've found it to be true in real life with most people who are horrible to work for or with. They construct their own story on how they are just trying to make people better. The fact that they're making those around them miserable just means to them that their actions are working, like nasty tasting medicine, or the song, "Cruel to be Kind." They also, almost without exception, feel they are completely misunderstood. I always found it completely fascinating how much energy these folks spend on being awful. It actually takes so much less effort and strength to be a decent human being. Unfortunately, also in my experience, they do not change. Keep applying to other jobs, dear heart. We're here, in your pocket.
Worst boss story:My own worst bosses interactions (I worked remotely) left me literally on the floor, in the fetal position, sobbing because I could not do anything that ever pleased that woman, no matter how much I acceded to her demands. I was making six figures, I had 14 people from all over the globe working for me, many of whom gave me incredibly good reviews on Linked In, but the vast majority of my days was spent protecting them from her, or trying in vain to protect myself from her toxicity, and she very nearly wrecked me. I clung by my fingernails to that job until the inevitable layoffs and got a good package on my way out. It took me nearly two years to get over her poison.

Machka - Happy anniversary to being an Aussie, and to finding your way to cycling as your great love! Someone needs to tell my husband that when he sees a number of cyclists on the roadside, that "It's a biker gang!" was only funny once...
Supposed to be cloudy this morning and sunny this afternoon--and a look at the ten-day forecast shows this all the way through next Friday. I got my five pounds of clover seed in, and I'd like to spread them out now, but they need watering for days after, so I think I'll wait until the following week, when there's supposed to be rain for three days. Clover is supposed to choke out the weeds and grass and provide for the bees, as well as be beautiful. Right now, we're growing a heck of a crop of weeds and wild onions. Neither one of us cares about having a lawn, so we'll see how clover works in this climate. Should be interesting.
Guilty pleasures - I have been streaming the first season of "Why Women Kill," a dark comedy-drama on CBS All Access. I started it at the beginning of the week, and got so involved in it that I had to watch the last three episodes of that season last night. It is weirdly hilarious, and kept my attention, not always easy to do. If you remember the series "Soap" many years ago, it reminds me of that while sprinkling a lot more murders (always well-deserved) into the mix. I stayed up until 11 pm watching, something I haven't done in years, and then slept until 8 a.m. There's only one more season, but I plan to enjoy it.

Commit to being more active this month starting today. I commit to this by adding the exercises from the 6 minute book for over 60’s.
2. Spend as much time as possible outdoors today. Easy! LOL
3. Listen to your body and be grateful for what it can do. I do this during walking meditations every day.
4. Eat healthy and natural food today and drinks lots of water. Yogurt and raspberries for breakfast with 17 oz water bottle and coffee, more to come.
5. Turn a regular activity into a playful game today. Not sure. Joked with hairdresser while getting hair cut. Everyone was laughing and joining in.
6. Do a body-scan meditation and really notice how your body feels. I do this often in my meditations.
7. Get natural light early in the day. Dim the lights in the evening. Morning done. Will do in evening.
8. give your body a boost by laughing or making someone laugh. I will as soon as I can! Did this with friends.
9. Turn your housework or chores into a fun form of exercise. Hmmmm tbd
10. Have a day with less screen time and more movement. I’ll try.
11. Set yourself an exercise goal or sign up to an activity challenge. Already have goals: Yoga 10 mins 3 times a week, Walk 7,000 every day, 6 min HIIT -2x a day, Arm weights twice a week
12. Move as much as possible, even if you’re stuck inside. I will do. Vet this morning then normal day, so will be able to do this.
13. Make sleep a priority and go to bed in good time. Easy Peasy!
14. Relax your body & mind with yoga, tai chi or meditation. I will meditate and try to find time for yoga too. I did all I wanted to do.
15. Get active by singing today (even if you think you can’t sing). I can’t sing but will sing along with music anyway. Sang “When the ants go marching in” during my walk.
16. Go exploring around your local area and notice new things. OOOH, this sounds like fun.
17. Be active outside. Dig up weeds or plant some seeds. I will tend my container garden. I have watered it but need to remove dead leaves from tomato plants.
18. Try a new online exercise, activity or dance class. Not sure if I will have time today. Did not have time today.
19. Spend less time sitting today. Get up and move more often. After the last 2 days, this is a welcome change!
20. Focus on eating ‘a rainbow of multi-colored vegetables today. I did that on Tuesday but will try again today.
21. Regularly pause to stretch and breathe during the day. Ahhhhh. But forgot to do it.
22. Enjoy moving to your favorite music. Really go for it. Going to try to remember to do this. Forgot.
23. Go out and do an errand for a loved one or neighbor. I do this every day in my hosting.
24. Get active in nature. Feed the birds or go wild-life spotting. Will do! I love doing this.
25. Have a ‘no screens’ night and take time to recharge yourself. Did this![
26. Take an extra break in your day and walk outside for 15 minutes. Already did this today, first thing in the morning.
27. Find a fun exercise to do while waiting for the kettle to boil (or pan of water.) HMMM. Will have to think about when to do this.
29. Become an activist for a cause you really believe in. I believe in environmental protection, so I recycle, buy natural when I can, walk in nature, and garden as best I can. I also pick up litter every day to keep this state park clean.30. Make time to run, swim, dance, cycle or stretch today

“WHINE AHEAD”
I am glad I’m going to my psychiatrist next week. I can’t get out of this funk. Part, and maybe most, of it is because of my rheumatoid arthritis and tendinitis have been acting up. It’s not really the pain it brings but the fact that I know nothing can be done about it and it will only get worse. Very depressing. Add to that my dog Brownie has been diagnosed with end stage heart failure. She is 11 and very attached to me. AND, if you all remember a couple years ago my son having a psychotic break, well he is headed that way again. He lost he job by doing something stupid and is getting more depressed about what to do about it. I think I will recommend he try to get disability. He certainly qualifies with his mental issues.
I’m still walking and keeping track on my lists. If I didn’t have those to encourage me, I wouldn’t be doing anything but sitting or sleeping.
Sorry about the pity party, but I can’t seem to get myself out of this mindset right now. I will, I know, but it will just take time.

Rita that is a huge load to carry! I'm so sorry to hear about Brownie. Hope she is comfortable meanwhile. And hope your son comes through this patch okay. And for you to be in pain while all this happens is just too much. Many long hugs for you!

So yesterdays meal was great. It was 4 white mushrooms, 2 small white potatoes, a handful of frozen roasted chicken, 2 slices of bacon cut up, a hunk of sweet white onion, and a fair sized zucchini. Things were chopped, simmered and boiled.😂. I used a big blob of Italian spices paste, some butter, and 2 cups of hot water with a tsp of chicken can stock paste stirred in. Right before having my two bowls worth, I put in a glug of half & half. I love eating this way.
That was at noon, then at dinnertime I attacked my huge container of grapefruit segments. I probably ate a grapefruits worth. 🤗💖
I watched a Robin Wright movie. She acts in movies with such a tortured soul. It was called "Land". I mentally cheered for her to get her life together.
I checked out a bunch of books on health and intermittent fasting. Always learning bits here and there.
I might buy containers to organize my meals more.
Hoping today we will travel down to look at an art shop further on down our island. It sells the tiled covered light switch plates, and I will buy one for my Athena. She already has the one for her bathroom. I need to find one with dark blue and red tiles.💖. ,Her birthday is in May. I might be at sisters during her birthday, but sometime in May I plan on knocking on sons door with a bow on my head.😂💖

Question ... is there anyway to permanently get rid of wild onion that is overtaking a stoned area as well as my rose bed? I try to dig them out but seem to be making it worse each year. I think my inexperienced landscapers a few years back ended up seeding my beds and stones when they were supposed to be weeding ... Photos of area. Sorry they're large.

Rita - Many hugs. I'm glad you're working with a mental-health professional, and hope your son is getting the help he needs before he gets to the meltdown stage. I'm so sorry about Brownie--they bring so much to our lives, these four-footed fur babies, it hardly seems fair that they are with us for such a short time. I know you'll make the most of the time you have her. No apologizing for the "pity party"... you know that most of us bring our pain here. It's that hard-to-find place we had always hoped for without judgment, just support, which you've got here in great measure.

Beth - Wish I had some advice--the wild onions have taken over here, one of the reasons I'm overseeding with red clover, but it's all in grassy areas. The only luck I've had in the gravel areas is weed killer, or just yanking them up by the roots. I'm more and more reluctant to use chemicals on anything.
Had one of those wonderful phone calls with my sister yesterday--ones where you know the conversation could only be had with a sibling, the person who's known you all your life, who you've fought and hugged and stood up for and stabbed with a pencil (she deserved it). We seem to go through phases--couldn't stay in the same room with each other without fighting until we were in our 30s, and now in our 60s, we find that we love each other and the things that drive us crazy about the other one just fall away because they no longer matter. Wonder what will happen in our 90s?
Sun's out - time to find my gloves and go make a desultory pass at weeding some of the flower beds. It rained three days straight, so I'm sure they're quite weedy.

I've just been slowly sorting some things and organizing. Got a second walk in this afternoon so I have a bit over 3 miles of work out walk and another 1.5 of general wandering around the house so I should have 5 miles total movement for the day.
Going to get dishwasher going since dinner is over.

Machka: I admire you keeping the cycling log all these years! I start journals and logs but don't keep them up. I am glad you were able to play with your granddaughter recently.
Ginny: Do you have thyroid cancer? I have a nodule and had a biopsy 4 years ago that was inconclusive and another one recently that was inconclusive. They are going to monitor 1x a year. It is worrisome.
Kylia: Glad you got some cleaning done.
Tracey: What a pain having to look for a job and what a stressful situation. I admire your going into work each day.

I am sitting here listening to Tom Petty music and it is quite enjoyable. I didn't want to drive today and have spent the day inside. I spoke with a grief counsellor this morning and watched a nephew's graduation on streaming. I also sorted and watered my plants and new dogwood tree. I watched PBS's Catherine the Great and SeaSide Hotel. In between it all I cried and missed my husband. My new reality includes crying jags and I think it might be a year before these subside.

a gardener's comment on wild onion, - YUCK. pull pull pull, but you have to get the bulb out and it makes "baby bulbs" so the ideal way is to shovel up the soil, and put it through a 1/8 inch sieve and that should make the biggest dent.
